went to Man Chui with my family to celebrate my birthday. Food was, as usual, very good and staff were both pleasant and attentive. Two of us were vegetarian and the menu catered very well and the food was delicious. Ages in the group ranged from 20 - 82 and for a change everyone was totally satisfied. Thank you.

Ive known Robert a co owner for nearly 40 years and go regularly around once a month to be loyal,but...last night will be the last time as the service is either far too quick, the starter almost within seconds after ordering arrives and then when asked for my next course, chilli beef and rice, was brought a nice hot bowl,a good 10 minutes passed while the bowl turned cold, eventually the beef arrives but it a bowl made of sweet potatoe with a bite size piece missing from the side,i found this quite of putting but decided to stay and finish my meal.Waiting again for some 10 minutes decided to get up and ask for the bill as none of the several staff wanted to visit my table.Robert was busy buzzing around a table of Chinese people who obviously are much more important than me,sorry but i will be visiting Singapore Gardens in future where also over many years have never had a bad meal, apologies Robert but i was truly disappointed, goodbye

After being a regular visitor to the restaurant for the best part of 30 years, I can safely say that I will never be stepping foot inside Man Chui again. The food has been going downhill for ages and has been very hit and miss but my concerns relate to the hygiene of this place. I cannot believe how The owners/management have no interest in keeping the restaurant clean and hygienic. I’m sure they say that the sticky carpets are cleaned daily - the cleaning machine is always on show at the rear of the dining area but who in their right mind continues with carpeted restaurant nowadays. The walls are sticky and stained, the back area and glass partitioned corridor may as well be a store room as they just pile stuff there and semi hide things under a few grubby sheets. The ceiling is water damaged, stained and has been in need of desperate redecoration for long while but the worst thing are the toilets. Absolutely disgusting, always have been and no doubt always will be but I have reached a stage where I have to draw the line and say enough is enough. If they can’t be bothered to keep the toilets clean, re-tile the walls, properly eliminate cracked and broken tiles and make sure that customers shoes don’t stick to the floors then lord only knows what the kitchen is like. If they can’t keep toilets clean then I doubt that they can be bothered to maintain back of house either. Robert, Man Chui - you should be ashamed of yourselves.

My wife and I have lived in Finchley for 3 years but had not yet tried a Chinese meal locally (even though it is one of our favourite cuisines) because the choice seemed limited and unexciting. Last night we decided to give the local restaurant that had the best ratings (Man Chui) a try because even though The Good Earth in Mill Hill is usually excellent it is too pricy for a quickish mid-week meal. The menu did not seem too exciting - in fact it was similar to that offered by the take-away-only shops but we selected enough for three courses, thought the price (£25.70) was fine and placed the order. When I went to collect it (I am old-fashioned in that regard) I was delighted to see that the restaurant (which I had not previously been in) was quite large and was almost full. That seemed to bode well!Unfortunately the food was pretty dire. My prawn soup contained a single, lonely prawn amongst a greasy liquid and a lot of pineapple and other filler, my wife's vegetable rolls were noticeably greasy, my beef in black bean sauce had an unpleasant taste, the chicken in the sweet and sour chicken appeared to be reconstituted and and we gave up after eating about a third of the meal with both of us feeling rather sick.Clearly we will not go back and if the meal was memorable it was not for a good reason. Why did I head this review "A Real Puzzle"? Because if we assume that I was provided with food of the same quality as that being eaten by the many diners and presumably at least some of them must have been before then what led them to turn up en masse to eat food which was, by any standard, dreadful...

With no booking on a Saturday evening we were very lucky to get a table. The restaurant is a hive of activity and the staff do not stop! Service is efficient but not rushed, which I admire as I'm sure they could turn over the tables quicker if they wished. The food was deciduous. Nuts and picked veg as you sit down and a small plate of prawn crackers - we ordered more! mixed starters with chilli oil arrived in good time. Mains took a little longer but not too long and gave time to prepare for the main course. The food was absolutely piping hot! Sizzling! We had a beef and a chicken dish, noodles and rice. We couldn't finish the food and as a result was gifted with a little takeaway. All food very tasty and succulent. On completion of the meal, arriving with the bill came complimentary mints, chocolate and Chinese liquor - a great way to end the evening.

Went here with 3 of my close friends for a boys night and expected it to be somewhat quiet on a Monday night. We were the only table in there.Firstly, the seaweed arrived and was cold. I told the waitress and she picked it up and walked off but didn't apologies. The chicken chow mein was under cooked, I told the waiter and he picked it up, walked off and didn't apologies but brought a new one a few minutes later. Unfortunately it tasted of nothing so no one ate it. When it came for the table to be cleared I told the water no one ate it because it was bland and he simply took it away.During the meal, the waiter also hovered around our table listening into our conversations which became annoying. The decor of the place leaves a lot to be desired these days and my opinion is it is heading the same place as the other 2 restaurants - closing down! The good thing is for a lot of food the bill was just over £100 and the majority of the food wasnt bad at all.

My wife and I were invited to join members of my wife's family to celebrate a birthday. I have to be honest and say that in general I don't care for Chinese cuisine. In this case it did nothing to change my view of Chinese cuisine either. This restaurant looks quite good from the outside, but once inside it's a different story. We were seated at the back of the restaurant next too a number of items which were covered in white, not very clean looking sheets. The route to the lavatories was scruffy and dirty looking, the lavatories weren't filthy but could have been cleaner. In fairness the rest of the place looked reasonable, but when I see dirty areas in a place that serves food I become concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen. I can't explain which dishes we had because we had a set menu and it was arranged be the organisers. What I can say is that all the dishes I ate, and I didn't eat them all because there was too much, were very bland. Some of the meat was a bit stringy and not very pleasant, the various vegetable dishes all tasted the same. I was also disappointed with the different rice dishes they all tasted the same as well. I had to drive so I requested a alcohol free beer, but they didn't have any, they only had Chinese beer. I think that in this day and age that's unacceptable. The best part about the whole experience was the staff they were quite good, friendly and attentive.I don't know how much the total bill was so I can't say if the place is expensive or not. From my point of view it was expensive because I didn't enjoy the food, we won't be visiting this restaurant again.

Went here on quiet Monday lunch time. (Opens at 12.) Enjoyed Lo Hon vegetable pot- colourful and tasty (mange touts, water chestnut, bean curd, mushroom, carrot in soy sauce) if a little salty for my taste but typical of Chinese food. Also had sizzling monk fish pieces in batter in mandarin sauce (not enough fish inside the batter but a nice contrast to Lo Hon pot). My daughter had Ho Fun noodles with beef and green pepper which she was happy with. Waitress was attentive but a little to point of patrol but as the restaurant was quiet, who can blame her for wanting to keep busy? A nice touch was placing our napkins, refilling our tea pot without us having to ask, and lychee (not very alcoholic) liqueur at the end and helping me on and off with coat, which no one has done for years:) If ambience is important for you, try somewhere else. There is lots of bare wall in this rather cavernous, long restaurant. Toilets clean but cubicles could do with cheering up. I expect an itemised bill in English but the bill was NOT itemised and in Chinese, which I didn't mind on this occasion as there were only two of us, but if you want to come here with a group and some people want to see an itemised bill, better ask for one. Prices just about reasonable. There needs to be a category between average and very good, eg above average which is closer to my rating description. But we came away satisfied. Noticed a number of high chairs at the back, so that's a good sign for those wanting to come with young families. Although the food and service were fine, not sure if I would come here again, simply because of the lack of ambience.

We've been to this restaurant several times, usually as a family group, and we've never been disappointed. In the evenings it's very busy and noisy but our most recent visit was Sunday lunchtime and it was much quieter. The staff were very attentive and really looked after our frail 91 year-old relative. Pickles and prawn crackers were brought to the table on arrival and our order was taken and served promptly. The food was delicious and generous helpings meant doggy bags to take home.Unusually for a Chinese restaurant, there is a good selection of desserts (which some of us managed to find room for!) and we were delighted when we also received a complimentary platter of icecream scoops, sweet ginger pieces, fritters, and orange slices, as well as a glass of liqueur. The prices are not cheap but are reasonable for an upmarket restaurant, our meal, including drinks and service charge averaged £27 per person. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Booked for a Saturday night, reservation at 8pm. Shown straight to the table & waited 5 mins before being asked for drinks. However, this restaurant is so noisy you can just about hear the question. 10 mins later our friends ordered a mixed starter platter & we had soups. Mains for our 4 ordered were chilli beef (ok but swimming in grease), duck in a Cointreau sauce (ok but swimming in grease), my wife had a chicken dish without noodles (tasty no complaints), Thai chicken curry (so hot/spicy it has to be reordered less hot), plus one other dish that I've forgotten. The steamed rice was very sticky. With 1 glass of wine, 1 half a lager, 1 bottle of Chinese beer & water the bill was requested & with tip came to £42 per couple. Why they give you the bill detailed in Chinese that you can't possibly read, I have no idea, therefore I had to take their word for it that it was correct. For £21 per head for a very average Chinese meal, is not great value, considering we didn't have duck or that much food. Think I'll stick to Indian food in the future.

Main course arrived pretty quickly but was exceptionally poor quality. Way too much oil, salt and otherwise not much else flavour. Sizzling lamb did not taste of lamb, lemon prawns were akin to sweet and sour without the sour. Noodles were way too oily. Veg was overcooked. Prices were slightly higher than average for the area. Very disappointed by the quality of the food and the way it was cooked. Staff were generally polite, albeit a tad laid back.Overall would advise to avoid this place. Chicken bar across the road would be better !!

I booked a table for a family of 4 about half an hour before we came. It was a Thursday evening and still pretty packed with locals. We came in just before 9pm. We were immediately served and throughout the entire evening, the waiters and waitresses were constantly extremely attentive to us. We ordered one of the set meals for 2 people, plus crispy wantons and a squid dish, plus a bottle of off-dry rose and later a bottle of sake. With 2 lots of their dessert sets afterwards, this was just over £90 and we had eaten soo much food. The starters were all fantastic - probably the highlight of the evening with the wine. The wantons were fantastic, as was the crispy seaweed and sticky pork plus fried calamari. Miam miam. The crispy duck was very delicious too. The waiter shredded it for us beside our table and we had some filings leftover so asked for more pancakes and they returned within a minute with 4 more pancakes (the number we asked) - perfect. The mains were good too, especially the egg fried rice with chill beef. The dessert set is nice because they have a mix of all the nice things on the menu including toffee bananas and apples, vanilla ice cream, lychee and sweet ginger. We were all extremely happy with our evening and had far too much food. We could have done without the mains despite being 4 hungry people.

Being a foodie, I always review a restaurant before I give it a go. The food here is amazing and great especially for vegetatians. The menu has a wide selection of authentic dishes to choose from and healthy sized portions too. Despite the restuarant being at full capacity during our visit, we received great service throughout. The food comes to the table as its prepared which is a bonus compared to many places I've dined at before. Will definitely revisit and recommend that you try this place out without hesitation. Overall prices are reasonable, but most importantly you get the quality of food you pay for. Thank yoi for a pleasant experience 'Man Chui'.

I have lived in the area for almost 25 years. I have always been aware of Man Chui but had never visited. For some reason I had it in my mind it was expensive and it never appealed to me from the outside. Went there as a family of 5 on Saturday night for my daughters Birthday and we werr all delighted. Of the 5 of us, I am the only non vegetarian but we had a veggie set meal. We all really enjoyed the food including me. There is an excellent selection of great quality vegetarian food and that is unusual and exceptional. I found it to be great value, and the staff were lovely. Busy... but not too busy. A really excellent night. Thanks Man Chui. Hope to be back again soon.

My wife and I have eaten at Man Chui at least 10 times every year since it opened. Needless to say we like it there and had another great meal last week . However I've never written a review and would like to redress that omission. The staff are really friendly but always super efficient and the Vegetarian options are unrivalled throughout London. The quality is excellent much better in my opinion than The Good Earth and far superior to anything in "China Town "t if you can actually get any Chinese restaurant In China Town to serve any Vegetarian Food ( the only time I've eaten anything worthwhile at all in China Town is when dining with a Chinese friend who managed to get something out of the Kitchen which wasn't actually on the menu) . So if you are looking for interesting tasty vegetarian food visit the Man Chui - my meat eating friends tell me their food is just as delicious

I organised a lunch here for our Foodie Group.....4 of us ordered the set meals and, unfortunately, the other two had to wait until our main courses arrived - which was perfect for us, but not so good for them ! Two of us had the "A" meal, which they thoroughly enjoyed, and two of us went for the grandiose "C" meal - which was probably sufficient for all six of us, had we not been so greedy ! Excellent selection of starters, including chicken and lamb satay, seaweed, pancake rolls and an assortment of meats with spice, salt and chilli. This was followed by crispy duck with pancakes, a mixed vegetable dish and shredded beef with chilli, all served with egg fried rice. We were - understandably - unable to have a dessert, but were brought chocolates and peppermints and a Chinese liqueur with the compliments of the house.A lovely way to while away a few hours in good company with excellent food and very friendly waiters.

I thought that I wasn't going to enjoy my meal as the prawn crackers that were on the table when we arrived were tasteless and had a stale texture and the meat satays that were served with our mixed starter tasted rather unpleasant. However, I'm relieved to report that the rest of the meal was very good indeed (apart from a nasty tasting glacé cherry that adorned my desert!). The flavours and quality were both good and the portions were ample. The staff were very pleasant and appeared the moment a cup needed refilling or a course was finished. Thankfully we had an enjoyable meal.

We went to Man Chui as a party of 6. we were welcomed and got a nice table. We ordered set meals and as we were waiting, the staff brought some nibbles for us. The wait for the food was not bad. I must say that as a big group, we were comfortable, chatting away.As this was my first time there, I thought the first platter were it. It was a lot of food. To my surprise, they brought more food. This time it was beautiful duck Soon we ran out of pancake, the staff brought us more. By then I was so full but there was still more food coming. It is lucky we had two able young rugby players with us as I would have felt bad to see all that food going to waste,Definitely a place I will visit again., The staff are polite and efficient.

Man Chui remains a real Finchley favourite - very classy yet relaxed decor and ambience, friendly owners and staff, excellent Chinese food and reasonable prices. Loads of vegi options and fish dishes so all dietary needs catered for. Great for delivery too of course.

We've been to this restaurant before and had very acceptable service and food. This occasion was no different but I was disheartened to notice the rusty serving implements on the table - why would anyone put these out let alone use them and crockery that has lost its glaze and ought to be tossed in the garbage. The restaurant looks terribly tired and in need of renovation and the far left corner has a peculiar table cloth/ curtain affair covering a load of tables and chairs which looks more like a junk shop than a restaurant. The toilets are not good. They are not clean not in a good state of repair. This is unacceptable. We shan't return sadly.

We have eaten in the restaurant 3 or 4 times during the past 10+ years. We tended to go here with friends who were vegetarian, so the expansive offerings of the 'mock' meats are very much appreciated. We always had pleasant service & the restaurant itself is large so you are never squished when eating in. Our takeaway last night was a nice surprise. We got two bowls of soup - one veggie Hot & Sour and another the House 'fin' soup. Both were quite tasty and, more importantly, hot (temperature wise) but they were both quite gloopy soups (just so you are aware). Our mains were also decent. We got a Kung Po king prawn dish, a veggie Ma Po Tofu and the sea spiced aubergine. The King Prawn dish was a bit sweet for a spicy dish, but the actual prawns were amazing!!! They were huge & succulent. In the dishes they used a lot of water chestnut (a cheap ingredient which has a nice crunch but doesn't have any flavour). The sea spiced aubergine was fine - it wasn't fantastic like some of the more flavourful versions I've had elsewhere but it was passable. The Ma Po Tofu was also decent - the tofu was nice. Overall, it's not like 'proper' Chinese food, but for a local Chinese it is decent. I've reviewed the restaurant overall as 'Very Good' as 'Average' felt like it was too low of a rating. For the food I put it as 'Average' simply because of the cornstarch/gloopy sauces & overuse of water chestnuts - but if the King Prawn quality was the norm for the other dishes I would have said 'Very Good'. But overall I'd say it's good for a local and affordable takeaway or place to eat in. If you want proper, true Chinese food other restaurants (still North London local if you have a car) like The Good Earth or the Speciality (i.e. Chinese) menu at the larger restaurant at Wing Yip by Staples Corner are better choices. But for something in Finchley Central it's a good choice.

Visited this restaurant with family & friends and had the set menu C. Very tasty food & loads of food. Staff are courteous, friendly & polite. Wasn't keen on the Vietnamese squid cake but every other dish was delicious. They even brought out a desert to celebrate my daughters & her friend's birthday with a lighted candle - which was very thoughtful! Thank you Man Chui

We landed here by chance on a Tuesday evening. When we arrived we were the first evening customersThe food is very nice, we had 2 set meals. The one complaint is make is there wasn't enough of any of the sauces that complimented the dishes. That's aside is was great value and got very busy whilst we were there so clearly a very popular restaurant.

Visited twice within a week (coincidence rather than planning!) and had a different set menu each time. First the meat, then the vegetarian. The food is fine and the set menus have generous portions and in my opinion a very fair price. If I had a criticism of the food it would be that it is a bit greasy compared to some of the other Chinese restaurants I've been to but there aren't many flaws with it.The one area that the restaurant needs to work on is some of the service. It is quite a hospitable restaurant but the staff are a bit full on at times. Every time I went to top up my drink from a can or water jug a waiter/waitress stepped in to stop me so they could do it for me. Similarly, when they serve the mains they just assume they can start piling it into your dish. I'm certain they mean well but they don't even ask if you want everything they've just put on the table. There was also one weird incident - they put a vegetarian main dish on our table (didn't seem abnormal as we had the vegetarian set menu) so we started to take from it and eat from it. A few minutes later a member of staff took it away, said it wasn't meant for us, and then went and put it on someone else's table despite the fact we'd eaten from it already! The people on the other table had no idea. That's not acceptable in any restaurant!!

We decided to go out with our daughters and two of their friends just at the last minute. Man Chui was really buzzing, every table was taken. The girls went to sit in the bar area and discovered Sandra from Google box who, unsurprisingly was ordering and collecting a take away. She was really chatty and entertaining. The food was good despite the crush. Service slightly slow but good humoured.Oh and by the way, the chilli beef and sweet and sour chicken are surely amongst the best in London.

A great local Chinese restaurant. It's been there for years. They have all the popular dishes, all cooked really well and served by great waiters and waitresses. The whole thing is a great experience, it's nice to pass a few words with the older chap who's been there for 20+ years at quiet times, if he can.A good, solid really friendly local place. It's been there fore years for a reason and you can't go wrong. recommended.

Been inspired to write a rare review after a really awful take away experience last weekend. Waited 70 minutes for home delivery (tbf was told when I ordered it would be an hour). Food was gross. Prawn toast greasy & tasted of vinegar. Won tons had no filing & over fried. Massive slices of garlic in nearly all of the dishes. Bland tasting chicken dishes. Hard rice. Horrible horrible horrible.
