Mama Masala in Newtownabbey

Honestly the worst takeaway we have ever had. It arrived late, the food was cold, the "hot" pizza was laced with fresh chilli's, it was literally inedible like a child had prepared it. The chips had quite obviously been cooked and then cooked a second time - perhaps even a third.... £38.00 and it went in the bin. Avoid at all costs!

Wow! What an incredible dining experience! The Garlic Mushroom Poori was absolutely divine—garlicky, spicy, and perfectly cooked. The Mango Kulfi was smooth and creamy, a sweet ending to a fantastic meal. We asked for extra spice, and they didn’t disappoint. Definitely one of the best spots for authentic Indian food in Belfast, and I can confidently say this will be a frequent spot for us from now on!!!

This is our go to for an Indian takeaway, always a delicious treat, and reasonably priced too. Chicken tikka biryani with pilau rice and tikka masala sauce is unreal

We have been using Mama Masala now for several years and the food is exceptional. We have never had reason for complaint and the quality of the food is consistently excellent. They are accommodating, and will prepare a dish to you specific requirements. The front of house staff are always pleasant. 5 STARS !!!

The service at Mama Masala Glengormley was flawless from the time we arrived. The staff were kind, helpful, and well informed about the food. They made excellent suggestions and made sure the entire dinner was flawless. They made us feel very comfortable and were always attentive and available without being intrusive. The Red Dawn and Gin Slushie cocktails were both fantastic and well-made. We also tried Thums Up, an Indian cola that added an interesting touch to our meal. All the starters we tried were delicious! The Chilli Squid was delightfully crispy and tender, the Mama Masala Wings were exploding with flavour and undoubtedly some of the finest we've ever eaten, and the Chicken 65 had the ideal balance of spice and flavour. The main course was by far the highlight of the evening. The Paneer Butter Masala was creamy and delectable, the Chicken Tikka Garlic Chilli Masala was rich and flavourful with just the right amount of heat (made medium instead of hot, for us), and the Methi Lamb was so tender it melted in your mouth. We paired these with onion rice and the Mama Masala Naan and Garlic Naan. We finished with Mango Kulfi and Pistachio Kulfi, which were both the sweetest way to end a delicious and hearty dinner. All in all, our entire experience was excellent, from the delicious cuisine to the attentive service. Mama Masala Glengormley is the place to go if you're searching for a restaurant that serves fantastic food and has great service too! Been here multiple times for takeaway and sit in as well. Can't fault the place. Simply delicious food, attentive staff and overall an enjoyable meal every time. Highly recommended.

Had my usual "measurement" favourite dishes. The prawn puri was sensational. Excellent. Chicken dpiaza was very good (my preference would be for more coriander). Naan bread fine but could br "fluffier". Overall very, very good

My first time here tonight for a birthday party, with family and friends. The place looks fantastic inside, it had been set up for us with a table for 10 along the windows, we had sent up some decorations earlier which the staff had put out to perfection. Starters…. Absolutely delicious, we just had a selection of several different amongst us all. My main was chicken tikka masala, fantastic is the only word to describe it. The wife went to the Italian menu for carbonara. I can tell you she’s fussy, and raved about it. I tried a bit of my boys butter chicken, and lamb tikka masala. Both also fantastic. After we were all done, they brought out the birthday cake with candles lit, and joined us in the usual chorus of happy birthday. The service, second to none, staff all very nice and very attentive, nothing too much trouble. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mama Masala for a good meal, I know it’s our new go to for a good feed. We will most definitely be back, I have the rest of the menu to work through.

Visited Mama Masala again recently. Loved the Methi Mutton along with the mama masala naan. Mama Masala is a solid choice for Indian food enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

I recently dined at Mama Masala in Glengormley and had an absolutely fantastic experience! The food was incredibly flavorful and authentic, with each dish perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. Charlene who is the heart of the restaurant is always kind, welcoming and cheerful! Got to meet their Amazing Head Chef Amit, who explained to us in detail about the different regional Indian dishes and his favourites. The menu offered a great variety of options, catering to all of our tastes and dietary preferences. I loved their Butter-chicken pizza and crispy complimentary papadums. I highly recommend their tandoori platters and variety of naan breads. What a treat! The service was outstanding, with the staff being attentive, friendly, and efficient. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a warm cozy meal on cold Northern Irish winter days. I highly recommend Mama Masala, the Glengormley location to anyone looking for delicious Indian cuisine in a welcoming setting here in Northern Ireland. I will definitely be returning soon to try everything on their huge flavorful menu!

Had the pleasure of experiencing this place, but it was the takeaway that I had. The son had got one the previous week, and called to the house. And having enjoyed that meal, chicken tikka masala, decided to have another one this week, Saturday evening. And I have to say, it was just as delicious. The chicken was really tender, and nice portions, as well as the sauce, absolutely delicious. The rice was perfect, paliu rice, as well as a plain naan. It came with a papodom, but unfortunately no dip, but when I asked for one , it was really tasty, the onion dip. Over all it was a really enjoyable dinning experience, and the food is prepared to restaurant level , which will entice me to dine in the restaurant in the future. A really pleasant place by, and easy to order and collect, the staff are really friendly and excellent. But you'll need to taste for yourself, and enjoy. Just had another beautiful meal from this place, chicken madras, chicken tikka masala, chicken tikka korma, paliu rice, chips, one plain naan, one peshwari naan. Looked after by Diksha, lovely person, really friendly, all the staff are very friendly. The meals once again, fantastic, really good portions, tender chicken, sauces really tasty. Onion dip really good 👍, another satisfying experience. Sorry no photos, as it was devoured really quickly, but next time, will post photos.

Have been calling here for a few months now, and I must say it's been really worth it. Usual dish chicken tikka masala, but was asked if I would like to try the butter chicken. So tonight I gave it a taste, and not to do it true justice but it was amazing. It has the hint of a sweet curry, but an exceptional flavour, smooth and more-ish. The chicken is, as always tender and beautifully cooked. Sliced and well portioned. I ordered it with paliu rice and chips, including a plain naan. The chips are served in a neat heat bad, as is the naan, of which is soft and a good a compliment. The service is exceptional and really helpful, with assistance regarding dishes, and what is good with what. As often said, and again repeated, you have to call and try this place, as I avail of the takeaway aspect, and hopefully will done in, as if you judge a place according to the takeaway, then the restaurant can only be better. All I can say is, look it up , call in, and taste for yourself. And of course, apologies for no photos, but the food was calling, and I had to answer.

I used to frequent Mama Masala when it was owned by Phal, and back then, it was a flawless experience every single time. Unfortunately, under the new ownership—run by "the two Ashes"—the standards have plummeted to an unimaginable low. The outdated staff, like Charleen, seem uninterested and indifferent, a far cry from the friendly and professional service we once enjoyed. To make matters worse, the loyalty of long-time customers is outright ignored. If you’ve been a regular, don’t expect any recognition or respect. The food, once a shining star of Indian cuisine, has now become an insult to the art of cooking. The curries are heavy with flour, destroying both taste and texture. They’ve even left me questioning whether they care about customer safety—my last experience nearly sent me to the emergency room. Avoid this place at all costs unless you’re looking for the worst Indian food experience of your life. Dear Anish, I find your response disappointing and unprofessional. Let me clarify: my review was not written to “bully” anyone or demand credit, but to highlight a genuine decline in quality and service that I have experienced at your establishment since the change in ownership. I have been a loyal customer for years, during which time I supported your business both financially and by recommending it to others. My feedback comes from a place of care for what Mama Masala used to represent. Your dismissive and accusatory tone, as well as your claim about credit, are unwarranted and completely unrelated to the core issues I raised about the food quality and customer service. As for naming family members, I referred to long-standing staff by name to emphasize my point about outdated practices, not to attack anyone personally. Your response, however, feels like an attempt to deflect from valid criticism by mischaracterizing my intentions. Instead of addressing the concerns I raised, you’ve chosen to make this personal, which is unfortunate. good spot I've had from here a number of times. no bad experiences and delicious food.

Food was very tasty and flavourful however the curry and chicken tikka was cold. Still enjoyed the meal however would have been better had it come hot.

We went to this place on my wife's birthday and the restaurant didn't disappoint at all. Thanks to it being a weekday with close to subzero temperature outside and snowing, we had almost the entire restaurant for us! The hosts are friendly, warm which makes you feel comfortable. We had garlic prawns, chicken 65, chicken garlic chilli masala, cheese naan and mama masala naan. Each one of these food items were really good and we really enjoyed our visit there. We definitely would recommend this place to others.

for only being 10 minutes away from are house and reviews are good we decided to give this place a go. pizza was stone cold kids didn't mind it. chip stone cold. got the two curry deals and by the time i dishes then out i had tio put them in the microwave for a minute as also cold. If food was warm I would of enjoyed my meal.

Very disappointed in Take Away ordered tonight. Both Chicken Korma and Lamb Jalfrezi had 4 pieces of meat and the container was filled with watery sauce. Portions are not good for the price you pay. Ordered before and didn’t have a problem.

This restaurant is consistently excellent. The food is so delicious- curry’s have huge chunks of tasty fresh chicken, the flavours are marinated and complex with just the right level of spice….. the medium tikka masala is a new found obsession. It feels like things are cooked with pride and care and feel so lucky we have such a gem of comfort food so close to us!

I had placed order while in my car do it would come within 30 mins of us getting ho.e. it came in 15 minutes. Pipping hot and tasty.

First time using this restaurant, really bad service. took more than a hour and a half to get our food.

food was excellent. only really downfall was 7 pieces of chicken in the korma dish. For the price of the korma it felt a bit of a rip off. But taste was superb.

Absolutely love Mama Masala! We get a delivery from them nearly every week and when we recently moved home we decided to have a party and they catered the event. They were amazing throughout, kept in touch for details on number of people, the various food we needed and it was absolutely fantastic, completely took the stress out of hosting a party and would recommend to anyone considering any event or even just a tasty treat some night. Everyone commented how delicious the food was and party was a complete hit! Thank you Mama Masala!

Beautiful meal and attentive staff. We have eaten here several times. We sat in for a meal last weekend & all three three us agreed it was the best meal we had in a very long time. Perfectly cooked Special Mixed House Starter followed by two beautiful main meals: Butter Lamb & Chicken Tikka. Staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us even though they were very busy. Loved having the option of sitting in the quieter bar side. Take-Away this evening was equally as tasty. Highly recommend.

Every time I travel or even when I’m back home I like to try different Indian restaurants and I need to say, this has definitely been my favourite Indian Restaurant from all around the world!! In a short visit to Belfast, I had the luck to dine in this delicious restaurant with family and friends, we all asked for a main dish each and shared a bit around the table and every single dish was absolutely delicious, it was hard to pick up a favourite and we all agreed. All the flavours were very well balanced and the right amount of spice for the hot dishes. Every main comes with either rice or naan bread which is, to my point of view, more than enough por an individual portion, some of us had a bit left over. They also have pizza and pasta available either for kids or in case you want to mix and match. The service was outstanding, very friendly and quite quick too. I also liked the fact it’s a family business, I believe those businesses need to be supported and specially if they deliver outstanding food and service like they did. I will definitely go back to dine in before I go back home and can’t recommend enough! 😃

Dined here for the first time today and can not get over just how amazing it is! It’s rare these days to find a restaurant which is affordable, child friendly & amazing food but this place is just that. With a child who’s not too keen on trying new foods, she tried different curries & sides and loved all of them and even requested we attend again (need I say any more?). We were greeted, seated & serves by Charlene who is just amazing at what she does! So friendly & great with children, open to give recommendation, great hospitality & over all an amazing service from Charlene. The food was just beautiful (especially the butter chicken, the chutneys & Kulfi). Thank you for your hospitality & great experience Mama Masala🫶🏼

Lamb jalfrezi was very very oily, had to drain the oil. Lamb itself very nicely cooked. Delivery time issue was it too an hour and a half. Was changed 5 minutes before was due to arrive the first time. Slightly disappointed on this. Food quality still very nice.

Great food every-time with lots of options, lovely customer service and always earlier than expected which is great for us. The korma is my favourite.

I am a regular customer but was disappointed with a meal last night. Orders were made out of sequence and waited 50 minutes on a takeaway which isn't acceptable. When the meal arrived the naan wasn't great quite flat and hard compared to normal and poppadoms were soft. Rice and other chicken dishes were nice but I'm disappointed that they accepted the order knowing they were struggling to fulfill orders . They offered a 1l bottle of coke as compensation but honestly if we hadn't paid in advance we wouldn't have bothered waiting. It's a pity last night let them down so much.

Myself and my friend enjoyed a fantastic night here last night. Food was lovely, staff really attentive and overall just a lovely place. A real hidden gem. Great to see so many vegetarian options on the menu too as hard to get nice authentic Indian vegetarian curries. The vegetable Rogan josh was delicious as was the mixed vegetable starter. My friend enjoyed her chilli garlic chicken too. Can't wait to go back for another meal soon.
