Mahdi in Hammersmith and Fulham

I've been to this restaurant several times. The food is v good. However, the service is not impressive. Some looked tired and some very lazy. I asked them politely pack the remaining food. I was shocked when they brought me empty plastic box. And the the surprise when I saw them do it for other customers. They need to work hard to improve the service.

It 3 stars restaurant not more. I took a Tahchin ته چیم and it was a joke compared with other Iranian restaurants in London, also they sell green salad under the name of Cesar salad. Sorry but I don't recommend at all. They have a reputation but I think it goes back to many years ago,

No complaints about the food, it was really tasty - we ordered a mixed grill spread. Service could be better though, we ate in the late evening and it was clear that the staff didn’t want us to order any tea or coffee as they all put their coats on and were waiting for us to finish without approaching us to enquire about drinks or dessert. Part of me can appreciate that but if you accept customers and we are still within the opening hours then we deserve the full service.

Use to one of the best persian restaurant but not any more .

This place is so beautiful, the food is great everything from the appetizers to the main course. Absolutely divine with great service and a beautiful view!

Absolute scam of a restaurant with extortionate prices compared to other better tasting restaurants of the same cuisine. Crammed our pre booked table in a corner and then had the audacity to write mandatory 10% service charge on the menu which they try and force you to pay when all they are doing is their job i.e bringing food to the table and nothing special. Greedy restaurant owner trying to justify with government websites when I know for a fact he’s not declaring the money which he would then have to pay NI contributions on especially when he’s offering to remove service on a couple hundred spend if you pay cash or bank transfer so he can cook the books. DO NOT VISIT OR RECOMMEND!! Response to owners comment: Pay your staff adequately, service has always been optional until greedy owners like you have started to state it’s mandatory on menus. Service is exactly what it means, the service provided, I don’t go to work, do the bare minimum and ask for more money for turning up. You say honest living but fail to comment on bank transfers or cash payments. Take a drive down Chiswick high street and you’ll find plenty of cheaper and tastier alternatives. As to inflation, this is affecting everyone so keep your sob story to yourself.

Food wasn’t up to standard and was overpriced. Service was low quality, and we got treated with disrespect. Meat was undercooked and we felt sick after I DO NOT RECOMMEND

My family and I revisited this restaurants after many years . To say we were disappointed at the dramatic decline in the quality and portions of the food is an understatement. The food was simply terrible besides being far too salty . The rice was old . The koobideh smelt bad and was not tender . The barg was yellow and oh so salty . I don’t know what the kashk bademjan was to be honest but it definitely was one of the worst foods we have tasted . It didn’t have the garnishings on it . I wanted hot water to add to the teapot we had already ordered and was told it was not possible . It was indeed very sad to see such a huge dip in practically every single thing in a restaurant we favourited and frequented often 5 or so years ago . Servers were unfriendly with no manners whatsoever . They didn’t remove our plates and cutlery from the starters before bringing the main course . One waiter attempted to remove my starter plate whilst holding my main course in the other hand as I was still eating. Being an Iranian myself , I do not write this review lightly . We will not be returning there again . Finally, I don’t know why it is that in these Iranian restaurants you are put on the spot to pay in cash ! Ps. The bathrooms were beyond filthy and in need of a complete overhaul , a deep cleanse and fumigation . To whomever who wrote the below I suggest you perhaps try sth else besides copying and pasting an irrelevant response . Everything I have written above is FACT and the truth . I suggest you speak to the Manager who actually refunded one of the meals as it was so salty . Furthermore maybe try and be a bit more professional in your responses and try not to disrespect your customers . And the only FAKE thing here is you and your lies. Let me add some more just to reassure you of how fake this is lol . Both orders of The jujeh kabab in the chicken makhsoos were awful . Both barg makhsoos were terrible . The chelo kabab was tough . Oh sorry , the only thing that may have been okay was the sabzi khordan which I don’t believe required any cooking .

Persian foods. Delicious and fair price. The atmosphere take you to old time in middle east. Polite staff. Weekend usually bueasy and some times good idea to make reservation in advance spetially if you are a big family.

Recently they have changed their rice to the lowest quality that gives you belly pain, despite the price increase.

There is a complete difference in quality between their sit-in food and their take-away food The take-away kebab is always dry and tastes off, but the restaurant food is always great though Please fix this issue!! Because of this difference I usually don’t order takeaway from Mahdi, and at almost £20 for takeaway it’s ridiculous to have to be served awful food. Thanks

I have visited this restaurant a couple of times and really enjoyed it. The seating is lovely and the service was great. The meat was lovely. We ordered the platter for 3 people and 2 people and the mixed mezze at the start with naan. It was lovely. I would really recommend this place.

It's mainly a persian restaurant. Foods are good and tasty but a bit expensive. No alcoholic drink is served here. Parking is a problem.

Nice authentic Persian couzine, we had two mix grills and humus along with an aubergine dish and garlic yougurt. there garlic yougurt is to die for. For our mains we had four rice and two mixed grills. The food over here is one of the best places i have eaten in London. the chops were so tender along with the chicken. I suppose we mentioned to the lady who took our order, to do ensure the grill was well done. The portion sizes are big. We were a group of 5 ppl and the bill came up ro 38 per head. You will say its expensive but this meal will fill you up, i think tjis place is near Richmond. keep up the good work guys and hats off to the chef.

The place was so heated in air and with the crowd there was no fresh air at all which was inconvenient with the hot food we felt sweating 😵‍💫. Service isn’t perfect and the waiters doesn’t were gloves. I saw a waiter moves the garbage then touch and serve nan bread to a table with his same hands without washing or wearing gloves after touching the floor and the garbage 🤢. First place in London I’ve been to that ask people if they pay cash to get discount but if by card they pay full amount ?! Weird. They clearly say that they prefer cash payment !! Omg. Service charge anywhere else is optional/discretionary even on the very high end restaurants all around London but there in mahdi it’s mandatory ! Why? Weird. Waiters aren’t friendly enough. The receipt is weird they write all the orders by their hands and put prices that aren’t printed ✍️ and not in English as not everyone understands their language but English is worldwide understandable Unprofessional at all unfortunately. They really needs to change the billing system to printed clearly in English as prices were too high for a casual restaurant with all these cons. + let’s hope in the future they pay more attention to the standards of food hygiene part especially through cleanliness 😷.

Not very nice at all. Had s&d after coming out of there aswell Food is minimal but loaded with rice. Don't order the stuff that looks like sick either mixture chicken olives eggs and pickle thought it was going to come out in individual but came out like a dogs dinner

This place is about 10mins walk from the station right after all the shops on the high street. At 5pm it was quite busy and you know the food must be good if there are Persian and middle eastern people dining in there. The restaurant decor is wonderful with lovely vibe, the portions are big and I enjoyed the fresh flat bread. The grill food is wonderful, fresh with lovely fluffy tasty rice. I ordered a dish which has way too many berries but this could be how it’s served traditionally but the food itself was great. Definitely ask what’s in the dishes if you don’t like berries/fruits in your food. Waiters are lovely here but i am sure this place gets busy 7pm onwards on a Friday. It was quite busy at 5pm but not full. I would definitely come back and try something different else, slight more pricey than expected but the portions are big enough for two people!

Good service and tasty food. Ordered mixed grill platter for three and some extra dishes to cover 5 guests. All of the food was excellent. The prices are top notch too. Ambience is great although slightly load when full. Overall a very nice experience.

Welcoming staff and splendid interior. Aubergine starter with fresh herbs and warm bread was delicious. Mixed grill was excellent with tender lamb chops, chicken fillet and lamb kebab with saffron rice and barberries. Traditional aromatic Persian tea. Well worth travelling to, highly recommended.

The food was good, service was weird, the staff were hurrying us to leave, they just come to check if we are done, and when we finished the waiter came to take the plate he was throwing the spoons harshly on the plate and some fell out then he threw again too strong, after that the manager came and asked us to get the bill to pay, while we wanted to order some tea to drink, it was not comfortable at all.

Every city has an authentic soul. I believe it. People's experiences in every city could be good and bad, these experiences are a very strong impact on you. I visited this restaurant 8 years ago when I first came to London, it always maintains the same quality and spirit. The food is delicious and the ambiance has soul. The staff reflects the spirit of the Middle Eastern people, they are helpful and caring. This had the biggest impact on me.

The taste is good, but the prices have gotten a little crazy. If you go after 6pm you will find free parking on the street. The first lamb dish i ordered had 4 tiny pieces of lamb. All 4 pieces fit on my spoon! I showed the waiter and apparently that's how much lamb there was supposed to be. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Overall it was a big portion but extremely stingy on the lamb

Food is amazing. Prices less so and the restaurant are now insisting on a mandatory 10% service charge. Staff seem less interested over past year. May have to ponder not coming again. Shame as I’ve been over several years and the food is great.

The food was amazing. The options ranged from mouthwatering Chelo Chenje to delicious Naan Bread to Freshly-made Apple Juice. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice too. This probably is one of my favourite restaurants.

As an Iranian, I’ve gone to many Iranian restaurants all over London - and although a bold statement, I believe Mahdi to be the best one I’ve tried. Beautiful interiors which is true to traditional Persian culture, the food is incredible (whether you takeaway or eat in). I’ve taken my parents, family & friends to the restaurant and they’ve loved it! The service is friendly and efficient. I would recommend trying this place, and if you do - order the ‘Chelo kebab koobideh’, ‘kashke bademjoon’ ‘mirze ghasemi’ and ‘maste moosir’. Thé dessert and tea is also worth saving some room for!

The food didn't meet our expectations. The Kebab Barg was dry and chewy, while the Koobide was decent. Unfortunately, the Ghorme Sabzi seemed like a leftover from a month ago. The manager's loud calls to the waiters were a bit chaotic.

We enjoyed a lovely meal Friday evening, but were disappointed with the service and our seating although we booked the day before. We were in a corner with a great view of a vacuum left in the dining area and an open door to the service area, which was frequently left open allowing cold air inside. Service was patchy.

Closest thing you will get to a home cooked meal. Great food...Unbelievably large portions. My only issue was the location...a bit far from central london and the neighborhood was a bit rough. Other than that...the place is a favorite of mine.

Great food, really great food... even for just one person! It wasn't a particularly busy Monday afternoon and I honestly came at the perfect time. I was literally the only customer there (other than two take away orders), naturally I had lowered my expectations. The food turned out to be so nicely cooked, delicious and big portioned! The bread was warm and fluffy, the hummus creamy and nicely seasoned. The star of the show was a simple lamb over rice. It was served hot and delectable. I had so much to eat and left happy, I am looking forward to my next visit.

Staff didn't show a good attitude and was unwelcoming at first, which was unexpected. Was told that there was no menus for takeaway. Asked for a receipt and was given one in Farsi, without a date on it. Rice seemed reheated, and there were bones and hard cartilages in koobideh.

Nice food, parking might be tricky in rush hour. Service was not that good

Have been going to here since 2018. Trusted quality of persian food (specially Soltani Kebab) as close as the one you could find the Tehran or Tabriz bazaars. I hope they’ll keep their quality of food on top as always.

Mahdi is one of the best Persian restaurant in London. The food was great as always and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended.

For travellers The restaurant accepts Euros and US dollars. Although exchange rates might be poor it’s quite helpful who come to UK without pound sterling

5 waiters standing and looking at you not knowing what to do. Food is highly priced for that it is. Persian rice I delicious but kebabs for £17-£20 a pop are average or below average. Would not visit again

This is very bad restaurant and the food is horrible. We have kofta it was full of salt. The chicken is disgusting. The bad Service they look very sad, nice smile continue working long hours they look very tired I do recommend it

This was once a good restaurant. Now it is a disappointment. When booking the table, they said we were limited to 2 hours, but the place was nearly empty with a dead atmosphere. Staff unfriendly and could not be bothered. The food was plentiful but was just bland, cooked without love, and was pricy. The main course arrived while we were in the middle of starters. Just give the a miss.

We went for sizdah bedar (13 days after Persian new year around 5pm . Not many people, the waiter asked if we have a booking we said no and he said you have one hour to finish a meal we said ok. We ordered few starters was not good. khorosh gheymeh was bland not enough meet . Chelo kebab was ok kobideh was much better less rice. Then we ordered tea and sweet and the manager came and said we can not serve you tea . What ? We were so disappointed after ordering lots of food. People around our table none of them had reservations so they didn’t serve us a tea because needed the table to serve food for new customers and we were so annoyed. They could tell us we served you the tea but people are waiting for their table so we have a quick tea and leave . Some people didn’t have reservations but got the table. Very disappointed and food wasn’t nice. Restaurant wasn’t clean and toilet was dirty , some waiters were rude too. Never go back. .

Food is good although. The sauces are really good which you can add to the food. The mirza gasemi is the best in the country after having tried it in Persian restaurants in brimingham, Manchester and London.

Wir bestellten eine Grillplatte für drei und für zwei Person. Das Essen wurde schnell zubereitet und das Fleisch war auf den Punkt und super gewürzt. Wer gerne viel Fleisch mag ist hier sehr gut aufgehoben. Ich würde mit Freunden wieder hierherkommen.

I can’t believe they charging you for bringing a cake in! £1 per serving , that’s ridiculous. No good restaurant does that, what a shame

Visited this place with my friends. The kubideh was made bread/soya mixed in with meat. The taste was bland. 3/10 for taste. 8/10 for portion. The kebabs were massive and long. 9/10 for cleanliness. 10/10 for waiters.

We were there today and order two main course and two starter . One of the starter ( Dolma) was from the can . I can't beleive you go to the restaurant and they open the can and warm it up and bring it for you. Then main course coming. Loubia polo's meat smell disgusting and chicken shish was at least for 10 days old chicken taste nasty . I can't beleive they are still trading with that kind of quality. It used to be a very good restaurant but shame now its my last time , I waste my time and money there

The lamb skewers were horrible. They smelled bad and tasted worse. Obviously the meat has been out of freezer for days until it became bad and then they serve it to customers. Horrible experience on Christmas Day. Will never buy again

Just ordered a mixed grill for 1 after not eating at Mahdi for a while. Food is so good from here, just as good if not better than I remember! Would highly recommend

Wow wow woooow The best Persian food I’ve ever ate . The Joujeh was very delicious, the chicken was well done and juicy, the rice was perfect but I’ve asked for a zereshk on my rice

It used to be very good but now is awful, they have used a turkey drumstick instead of lamb shank, avoid it , it is not worth it anymore

Encouraged to visit by the 'eat out to help out' scheme, this was a revelation. Great atmosphere, well-patronised, so many appealing dishes to try, it felt special. One to return to.

The lamb and rice at this place are beautiful, very tasty the mocktails are a must. Came here with my wife for dinner, live outside London but if ever in the area will definitely visit again.

La comida estuvo bien. Un poco soso y requiere salsas. Pero obtendrá una pequeña porción de salsa 20 minutos después de que obtenga su comida, luego tendrá que esperar a que el camarero vuelva a preguntar. El servicio es TERRIBLE y luego, cuando llegó la factura, no pagamos el servicio. La persona que tomó el pago estaba enojada y dejó en claro que no está contento con que no paguemos el cargo por servicio. Dijo que está escrito en el menú que si no quieres pagar el servicio, entonces deberíamos avisarle antes de pedir nuestra comida. Qué regla más estúpida, cómo sabremos si recibimos un buen servicio o no mientras nos sentamos. Un montón de vaqueros dirigiendo este lugar. Brinde un buen servicio si quiere que el servicio cobre. También es opcional por qué incluso incluirlo en la factura. Creo que es una falta de respeto que se agregue automáticamente a su factura.

Mahdi is a great value for money restaurant. Nice decor, very Middle Eastern, and good food. Prices are fairly low for the amount and quality of food they serve. Highly recommend.

The service was ok and food for my colleague who needed Halal food was too sweet for a dish that should have been spicy. They added the service charge even when they realised that we were not happy with the food. Will not go back there as the colleague who suggested it herself said she would not go again in a rush

Bien, entonces este lugar es un lugar decente para conseguir comida. El pan naan es 5/5 pero solo quiero resaltar que las comidas están cargadas de carbohidratos y escasa en la carne.Conseguimos el pollo y el arroz (joelji sp) y, aunque el pollo es sabroso y suculento, el plato está lleno de arroz como una proporción de carne a arroz, es como 1:10.Creo que, para ser sincero, constructivo, debería servirse con más ensalada para disfrutar de los maravillosos sabores. De lo contrario, es caro para mucho arroz.

Als je in Hammersmith verblijft dan raad ik je aan om dit restaurant te bezoeken.De aankleding is typisch Perzisch. Je zit best dicht bij de andere gasten. Maar dat mag de pret niet drukken.Ontzettend grote porties. Mals vlees van de grill. Niet echt duur en je krijgt snel je eten geserveerd.

He comido en este restaurante varias veces en el último año y realmente creo que la comida se destaca. Las porciones son grandes, por lo que es mejor compartir algunos platos. Me encanta su bebida de yogur con pepino y postres también. Siempre está muy ocupado por la noche, así que asegúrate de reservar una mesa.

If there was a 3.5 category I would have gone for that. The restaurant is good. Location is ok and food quality and portions are good. Prices are quite reasonable too. It’s a busy place and Iranians go there. This is how you know a restaurant is good!However They don’t like to take cards which I dislike and I think they changed the chef. The portions are still good but the quality certainly dropped. I’ve been there several times before and would love to see it go back to its former glory

De ninguna manera soy un experto en comida persa, pero he probado algunos de los restaurantes de Londres en los últimos 10 años. Honestamente puedo decir que fue lo mejor, no solo la decoración realmente te pone en la zona, sino que la comida cumple sus promesas. Teníamos Chelo Barg y Chelo Kubide.

Decided to try this Persian restaurant before going to the Apollo for a concert. We weren't disappointed with our choice! Hadn't booked but luckily managed to get a table. Once you set foot in this restaurant you are quickly swept away from the bustle & traffic of Kings Street. The interior décor is lovely & the fact it was packed with locals (I assume) was a comfort when you've never been to a restaurant before. So, after a short while we were given drinks (water) & menus. The choices are plenty & we decided to go for a main each, together with a slight modification to the rice accompanying our meals. We asked for the rice to be changed to one that had pistachio, almond & orange zest in it. There was at an additional charge for this. I thought the extra £'s was a little steep but went with it anyhow. If I eat here again I probably wouldn't do that as the mains do come with their own rice. The other factor being that the portion of rice was enormous!! So, my suggestion would be stick to ordinary rice for one dish & ask for one portion of the fancy rice. My main course was the lamb with very dark rich walnut & pomegranate sauce. Quite tangy. Suzanne had a different lamb dish, which was again a rich creamy sauce with tomato, aubergine & lime. The lamb in both dishes was very tender & with no fatty bits! Both dishes were fantastic! We just couldn't eat all the rice. Neither could some other customers, which was plain to see, as they carted away plastic food containers full of food! Thank goodness they didn't bring our naan bread! Just an added note, no alcohol is served at this restaurant. Its a long time since I had a meal without drinks but don't let that put you off. Amazing restaurant with a great vibe. Service was good, accepting that the place was rammed! Staff were pleasant. Total bill with service came to around £40. Sometimes its good not to have drinks on your bill!! The restaurant is about a 20 minute stroll from Hammersmith Underground station. Will definitely dine here again!

Ambiente un po kitch ma ci sta. Personale cortese, menu che non si presenta benissimo. In compenso le porzioni sono davvero abbondanti e di ottima qualità. Il prezzo è lontano dalle media londinesi, con una cinquantina di sterline si mangia in due e bene.

A very pretty looking restaurant. Loved the deco. Staff was very polite and friendly. Food was tasty and fresh. Big portion of rice. They give you a container to pack your leftovers.
