Mahdi in Hammersmith and Fulham

The hummus and pistachio naan was lovely, but the main meal was below average. Very basic and no subtlety with the flavours. No vegan options for me either. I didn't enjoy what tasted like cheap ingredients and cheap cooking. Very overpriced for the quality offered. I had take away from Mahdi once before, which was again, way overpriced, a few years ago and thought the same. I decided to give the restaurant another chance as it's my Birthday today and being pregnant with twins and due soon, was physically incapable of walking far, (it's a 20 second walk away from home). Unfortunately, I felt exactly the same as before so know not to go back.

Nice place for a family meal. Lovely ambience and not too loud. Freshly made bread smells so nice.

Mahdi Restaurant in Hammersmith is a nice spot for anyone who enjoys Middle Eastern cuisine. The food is flavorful and authentic. The menu has a great variety, from traditional dishes like kebabs and stews to delicious starters and vegetarian options. The Food: Lamb chops were nice. tender and juicy. Boneless chicken was tough and the lamb kobodeh gritty and chewy, Salad was just plain lettuce leaf with some chunky chopped cucumbers and tomatoes with a sprinkle of sweet corn. No dressing. Portions are smaller than they used to be, but the prices have really increased in the 1.5 years since we last visited. Weirdly, some customers seem to get barberries, but we didn't. The chef seems to randomise every plate. Salad isnt dressed and was cheap and nasty lettuce, sweetcorn, and some dry slices of cucumber that had the texture they'd been sliced 3 days earlier and left uncovered in the fridge before landing on my plate. They squeezed us onto a table for 4, though we were 2 adults, 3 young. children and a baby. Oh yes, the bill arrived with everything written in Persian! EDIT As perfect, an example of denialism I've ever seen. Compelled to reply to the restaurants comments replete with misinformation or ignorance, who would do better to take stock of the reality and demonstrates humility and a desire to fix rather than deny honest customer feedback. 1. I attend restaurants to 'Eat', not photo the food. And I certainly would not photo the haphazardly placed lettuce, corn, and cucumber you call salad. You ask a silly question, "How it would not be fresh when we sell 100 per day." Batch prepping ingredients in advance and storing in a fridge. That is obviously what you do to enable you to serve such a large menu to over 100 guests. 2. You did not address the fact that you handed us a handwritten bill with products written in Persian. Upon payment you took back this bill and provided no receipt. Makes impossible to know what customers are paying for, whether the bill was correct or to prove later on what exactly was sold. The impression is that you cheat customers and the tax man! 3. Seating I had called in advance to ask if you could accommodate 2 adults, 3 children, and a baby, you said you could. When we arrived as planned, the restaurant was half empty. You directed us to a 4 seat table. The adjacent table could easily have been joined to increase the capacity to 6. There also were other suitable tables, and this remained the case for the 50min we were with you. Would have been common sense to have provided a baby chair as well! 4. Portion size and price. Note that you did not address my comment about the massive price hike, but I am left wondering if the final eye watering bill had a bit to do with a slip in maths on the Persian invoice! Your portion sizes have certainly been reduced. It is dishonest to deny it. You have reduced the rice quantity and increased the undressed assembly of dry lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and sweet corn to fill the plate. We used to eat at your establishment once per month before we moved away 1 year ago but continued to recommend your restaurant to anyone we knew looking for good value in you side of London - but no more! You used to give large portions, although admittedly, much of that was rice. I suppose the cost of rice has gone up! 5. Barberries. Never in any of our previous visits did we need to request them, nor where we charged an extra for the given barberries. Clearly your chef does what he likes or makes do with what he has. Everyone makes mistakes, and it can't be easy to running a restaurant where much of the staff don't understand English, but we will not return BECAUSE of your attitude to our honest review. With soo many Iranian restaurants in almost every major city and town there really is no need to return to an establishment that chooses to ignore honest customer feedback. You always were a 6.5-7 on quality but a 8-9 on value. Now the value has gone and your attitude is awful. Advice to anyone who dines with you. Insist that the bill is written in English, the removal of any service charges where service has been substandard, AND a receipt. Also check to make sure that you receive exactly what is expressed in your chosen menu items. Good luck!

Really my favourite and the best Persian restaurant , staff are so friendly and the food was so delicious , even the atmosphere and decoration you feel relax , I recommend to all and will go again and again .

Drove 1 hr to get there and such a waste : The most terrible Persian food I've ever had in my life. I spent close to £50 for one person and tested Special Barg, kobbideh, and lamb chops (shishlik). I could not even finish all my food: loads of turmeric in everything, and tasted awful while more expensive than many Persian restaurants in London. Tomato grills were burnt and black surfaced! This does not resonate with an authentic Persian Iranian food Decoration was fantastic though despite being ruined by staff members talking loudly from distance with each other. Would never go there again. *I've added photos of my fingers that turned YELLOW just by touching meats!

I have been coming to Mahdi Restaurant for 15 years. It is hands down the best Persian restaurant you will ever try in London - I have been to a lot. The restaurant is traditionally designed and it feels like you’re sitting at a traditional restaurant in the Middle East. The food is reasonably priced and the service is always top notch. I take everyone here because it’s a must try when in west London - it is not to be missed! There are times you can’t even get a table in the week so make sure you book! Absolute favourite every single time - don’t miss out on the mixed grill! Faramarz and Hamed always make sure we are taken care of.

What a fantastic discovery! A first-class Persian restaurant that is not where you expect it! This isn't Ealing, and it isn't Finchley (where Persian places have sprung up these last 10 or 15 years). This is the far end of King Street, and the place clearly has a lot of devoted customers! The staff is welcoming and polite, happy to help you find what you want, with no pressure to order too much food (as some restaurants do). The bread is fresh, the Mirza Ghassemi is the best I've ever tasted, and we had two superb mains: Baghali Polo (delicious rice, and melting lamb) and a beautiful Tah-Chin garnished with zereshk. Four of us had only 3 starters and 2 mains..... yet we couldn't finish it! Customers were from all different ethnicities: everyone loves Persian cuisine. We weren't sure about pudding, but our waiter brought us a complementary dish of faloodeh (albaloo) which was perfect to follow all the savouries. Thanks to all the staff for a superb evening.

Delicious food. Generous portions. We had two starters between 4 - feta cheese with herb salad and hummus. Flatbreads are freshly made and delicious coated in sesame seeds. We shared main meals also and would recommend having one of the stew type meals alongside the grills. The aubergine and lentil one we had was lovely and went well with the rice - might have been a bit dry without this as a sauce, although there was plenty of chilli/ yoghurt sauce provided. Too full for desert but we had some lovely chai tea and a piece of baclava which was enough.

The food is excellent and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The chicken skewer we had was perfect as were the bread and the hummus. Plenty of sumac to sprinkle too!

Excellent flavours with impeccable service. The meat is always cooked to perfection and served with flavoursome buttery saffron rice. We were given some excellent suggestions by our very knowledgeable waitress Feria. We will be returning again very soon!

On Monday, with my friend who came from Italy, we reserved a table for two people for dinner, the food was delicious, the waiters were kind and polite, all the food we ordered was recommended by the young waiter named Feri there, and I was very happy. I miss meeting her , we will be back again hoping to see her there again.

First time coming to this restaurant with my family tonight as this place was recommended to us. The service of the young waitress with the curly hair was disgusting. She spoke in a very rude, unprofessional tone while taking our order and her facial expression made us feel like we wasn’t welcome there. Her face was like ‘stone’. She also was staring at us making my wife feel uncomfortable. We spent £120 in your restaurant to be treated this way by your staff. I think you need to show her what good customer service is and how to act as a waitress as she will loose your business a lot of customers. Teach her to SMILE at customers and speak in a NICE POLITE tone… Because of her I will not be returning again to this restaurant as I’m very disappointed in the service, the restaurant was not busy at the time we visited so there wasn’t any excuse for her rubbish attitude 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 this is the first time I’ve ever left a bad review. EDIT - How professional the manager of the place can’t be arsed to reply to the review and at least apologise for their staff. Says it all about this place 😂avoid

We went to this Iranian restaurant tonight for a visit and dinner at the suggestion of one of our Iranian friends. They treated us very well and the young girl who served us there gave us saffron sugar as a gift. It will remain in our memories and we will come back and see her and fall in love with that place👍🏻👍🏻😍😍

I’ve tried this place mixed grill before and it was really nice and the rice was also nice BUT I came again and it was a disappointment tbh. The meat wasn’t that great as it normally was and the rice was kinda dry. The restaurant was empty besides a few people but the food still arrived just a bit warm. The waiter wasn’t rude but she just seemed fed up with her job.

One of the Best Persian Restaurant in West London. Loved the Food and Service. Chalo Kebab and Lamb Chops are Yummy. Must try Persian Tea at the end.

Authentic & delicious Iranian food. This is the kind of restaurants where families & friends meet for a meal in the weekend. I’ve been there several times & the food was consistently good. The portions are HUGE though, so we always ordered one mixed grill for 2 people (see photo). The Persian ice cream is a must try if you’re a saffron lover. The prices are compatible with the big portions & high meat quality.

Food is amazing but service is terrible. We had a wheelchair user in our group. We told the restaurant in advance. They gave us a table but wanted the wheelchair user to sit on the end where she was removed from the conversation. The restaurant then suggested moving us to a corner which was colder. They ignored the female members of our group and spoke over the wheelchair user. Only when a man was there did they listen and gave us a decent table. When we were finished a member of the group was scratched by a splinter in the seat causing her finger to bleed. Overall service really bad. But the food is awesome so from now on I'll be doing takeaway.

We had a large party of 11 people and we had only booked at 15 minutes before through an app and they were completely ready for us. While we had a small selection of food, everything was perfect. We had the hummus and bread, and then the mixed grill with some barberries rice. Meat was season perfectly and the rice was so good that I would go back just for that. We had a great time and I would come back in a heartbeat.

The food here was okay - not the best, but that’s subjective, it might be more to your taste. The atmosphere is a bit cramped, with small tables that can make things tricky depending on your expectations. We also encountered an issue where we ordered something from the menu, but it wasn’t as described. They didn’t even have the dish available, and we had to ask for a refund. Overall, it’s not great, but it’s not bad either. I’d say it’s worth giving it a try to see if it suits your preferences.

I just called to check and they have the audacity to have service charge as mandatory? What is this? the US? Owner trying to not pay his staff well so he makes us pay them. Didnt even bother to come because of this! Greedy

We recently visited Mahdi restaurant and ordered a mix of grilled for 3. First of all, it came really late even people came after us they had their dinner but we still were waiting. Secondly, when it came it was not exactly what it was written on their menus. The grill was not freshly made. The grilled chicken was dry. I did not take a photo from the start because I was not expecting like this but I did take a photo of the receipt

Great food. Great quality. Service can sometimes be solo but 100% not the staff fault as they often have a full house of up to about 20 tables at a time. Very consistent and always above great tasting food well made, prepared and presented.

A very nice authentic persian restaurant. We had the beef stew and the lamb kobideh with a lot of saffron coated basmati rice with mixed grilled sauce accompanied with their infamous potatoe salad, the flavours were great as everything was cooked fresh, Just makesure you have a booking unless you went early as we did

We were in Mahdi restaurant with family and the service was exceptional, the lamb neck with any rice is highly recommended, kashk bademjoon, and ghormeh sabzi was great. Very large portions. It was very warm they should put a mobile aircon or something to bring cool air. They also gave us complimentary tea and baghlava. Overall very good experience.

Haven't been for quite a few years and was late lunch but good service food still ok,if not as good as remembered but will go back soon to see if evening is better!

Great food and generous helping.

As we entered our group of 6 was placed on a table for 4. After notifying the waiter that the table was too cramped he started pulling the table which of course made no difference. Eventually he attached another table to the end of the row. The food took about 40 mins to arrive which was of course very slow and when it came it was very disappointing. My vegetarian friends were disappointed by their meals which they said lacked flavour and I had the same issue with my lamb and chicken dish (#23 on the menu) as it was very plain and dry. My friend who ordered a different chicken dish was however quite happy with his meal and said it was well flavoured. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was great however it was also very hot and stuffy inside. They do however have great tea and baclava which was very tasty.

The restaurant was nice but the service was sort of slow, the food was quite expensive (£16.5 for a veggie dish >£20 for meat) and not that remarkable in my opinion. Some of the food was good according to my friends (the chicken platter) and some of it was not particularly special. There were 4 veggie options for mains which is decent and between us we ordered three of them but they were not that great. I wouldn’t go back again.

Have been going to here since 2018. Trusted quality of persian food (specially Soltani Kebab) as close as the one you could find the Tehran or Tabriz bazaars. I hope they’ll keep their quality of food on top as always.

Went on weekday.Reservation was by phone. Food is brilliant, service is decent; we were seated at the end of the room, near the glass door and did not feel cramp. Huge, huge portions, everything with rice or breads. Love the food, but a vegetable dish with no carbs will be a good addition to the starter menu.
