Previously, I have had good experiences at the Artisan Cafe. This time, however, we had to wait over 30 minutes for a simple sandwich. The staff, including the guy who said he was the manger, seemed to think this was perfectly reasonable. They didn't have any complaint forms for customers to complete. I'll go somewhere else in teh future...

A popular, pretty cafe located on the top floor of Magazine Heaven. A good range of drinks (coffees, teas, smoothies), cakes/snacks (available from the counter) & a small brunch/lunch menu (including a few vegan options). Nice decor & atmosphere.

Really delicious food, not a humongous choice but all cooked well and piping hot. Drinks well made and sizeable. Unfortunately waited around 20 minutes after our drinks arrived for our food to come- 2 toasties which shouldn't have taken quite so long. Would definitely visit again!

Specifically asked for my coffee to be served in a proper cup rather than a takeaway paper cup because we were sitting on an outside table due to having our dog with us, but food and drinks were served in takeout containers even though i requested them not to be, staff should of said that they were not able to rather than accept my order and bring in takeout containers anyway

We didn't know it was here until we wondered into the downstairs shop, had a look around and my wife said "Let's go and have a coffee upstairs and see what it's like". We're so glad we did. A lovely 1st floor café. It was clean, tidy, quite busy without being noisy and full on. Found a seat very quickly and had lovely Tea, Coffee and cake. The staff were very polite, very nice food displays, so all in all, a very very good first impression, soon to be repeated!

Visited for a quick breakfast. Still limited menu and takeaway but all change Monday 17th. Service excellent. So polite and courteous. A real credit. Limited menu still perfectly adequate. Crispy bacon bagel delicious. Peanut butter toast equally lovely. Fine coffee. If you get one of the two tables on the outside it’s an excellent spot to watch the world go by whilst having a nice breakfast. I love it here.

Artisan is apt. Visited many times and second review a year later. Selection of quite unique dishes all delicious. Proper sarnies are great. For a light lunch and a glass of bubbly or wine or lovely coffee/tea it is a perfect spot. You can see out to the lake if you sit in a certain spot. Excellent cakes and very good service. We visit every time we are at the lakes. Wonderful place. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

We were led to believe this was above average - ho hum... Service, whilst friendly, was slow. Finding a wine list took some 20 minutes. After another reuest when it arrived it was crumpled and stained. As it was warm night we decided to eat outside - tables could have done with a good wipe, and the floor had obviously not seen a sweep for some time - cigarette ends all over the place. Menu was nothing more than average selection of pub food, and from arrival to food arriving took one hour. On the plus sign - food was hot, and acceptable, portion size - substantial. (No need for a starter.)

We stayed here on two occasions, in our campervan to the rear of inn. Quiet and good location. We enjoyed a nights sleep during both our stays. The staff at the inn are fabulous, welcoming and friendly and the owners are really doing a great job. The food was delicious and the ambiance of the inn was just what you’d hope for, log fire burning in the hearth, dog friendly and lots of positive chatter. I’d recommend this as a stopover and eatery.

Me and my husband arrived at the restaurant with our 6 month old for my sisters 18th birthday meal, we have been here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed our time here, however this time was different. My mother had booked a table for 6 people and a baby , which was accepted over the phone, when we turned up we were greeted very rudely by a staff member , who pointed out children are not to be in the restaurant past 6 o clock, the lady then stated that this information is ‘plastered’ over the website, however when looking on the website there was nothing stating this, or certainly not ‘plastered’ all over it. I do understand rules are rules and I respect that, however the tone in which this information was delivered was very rude, it was almost as if we had brought in a disease, I really feel these rules need to be made more clear. Following this myself and my family left. We then headed over the road to the Duke of wellington where we were accommodated excellently by polite friendly staff , they even moved chairs around for us. We had a lovely meal , the food was so tasty, cheese board was great, worth every penny. We will not be returning to the love of wine, however the Duke of wellington we definitely will be.
