Amazing Lamb Curry, fresh authentic and a delicious lunch. Real cooking and good to support local businesses when Lewisham has lots of chain fast food outlets. Worlds apart but so much healthier and real.

I used to really like this place. The Romanian lady managing was very friendly and the food was authentic and tasty. Not anymore. The food has no soul and is tasteless. The customer service was terrible and atmo was non existent.

Soggy dosa, poor service, no soap in the bathroom to wash your hands (staff claimed they were getting some from their own bathroom when I asked for some) had to alert the server when I walked in as he was behind the counter with his head down. Waited awhile to be served. Had to ask for napkins and twice for tap water

Awful customer service.my delivery order had items missing from the friday thali and when I called the restaurant the man on the line was just rude and kept arguing it was all packed well from the restaurant.win’trecommend them any more

We had a great meal at Madras. The menu is so long, you think they can't possibly cook everything fresh but it seems they do. For starters we had the mini masala dosa - which was huge, thin and crispy with potato filling, sambal and chutneys, all for under £6 - and cauliflower florets in a delicious dark sticky spicy coating (can't remember name of dish - begins with M). Then a fish curry, lamb curry, cabbage thoran, a lentil veg side, chapattis and flaky paratha. All really different and tasty. To drink I tried the buttermilk - spicy! - and we also had lassis. The place is a bit lacking in atmosphere but you get the feeling it's family-run and the chef really cares. Great food and amazing value - a local gem.

Double check your bill and change before you walk away. Don't bother with the chai. The food itself hasn't been bad

Good south Indian food. Majority of the dishes are from kerala. A bit spicy but tasty.

We ordered two biriyani trough Uber when we received it was like same as the picture We call the restaurant to inform that they shout at us very bad customer service they are blaming Uber driver biriyani is not like biriyani it’s like a fried rice do not recommend at all

Excellent food. Stayed over the road for work and ate here both nights the food was that good on the first night! Went off menu first night with help from the very helpful waitress, fancied something a little different and spicy and got just that. Second night again with the help from the waitress had one of the best curries I’ve ever had. Looks a little dated but the food and service more than makes up for it.

Deliveroo messed our order, so we cancelled it. But this restaurant called offering to deliver. But they were running late and driver finally comes at 11.30 pm despite saying they would deliver before 11 pm. Had they said it would be so late, we wouldn't have accepted for them to attempt delivery. Moreso, we also saw that their food hygiene rating is 0. And they display it as 3 on Deliveroo. Thinking how unhygienic the order could be made us feel disgusted. Never again !

I had a very bad experience today here. The staff misbehaved with us when we ordered food, we just asked if the paratha was freshly baked as there was a past experience from them selling old food, the lady answered over the phone that parathas were cooked and brought to the shop in the morning and they heat them and sell all day. We only ordered beef fry and when we went to collect there was another staff who behaved rude and didn’t like what we enquired. After all it’s the consumers right to know how and when a food is prepared. Now the next thing is the beef we ordered. It was so pathetic, was full of bones and very few pieces filled with onion. I really don’t understand how this restaurant keeps up by selling such low quality food. It’s to be thought about seriously. Just leaving this review to let people know the reality. Thank you

I ordered a chicken vindaloo and rice for takeaway, but to my horror, I discovered a dead fly in my food when I was halfway through eating. I got so grossed out that I immediately threw the food away without taking a picture, which turned out to be a mistake. I decided to go back to the restaurant today because I happened to be in the area and wanted to express my concerns. I told the lady at the reception that I wasn't interested in getting a refund, but I was worried about the health and safety issues. What if I got sick from eating their food, or worse, what if other people got sick? However, instead of understanding my concerns, the receptionist was incredibly rude and kept insisting that I show them proof. I explained that I didn't take a photo, and I wasn't asking for my money back either. I just wanted to prevent this from happening to other customers. But she didn't seem to care at all. The receptionist's attitude was unprofessional and uncaring. She didn't even say sorry once. When I told her I was going to take a video to show how little they cared, she said I wasn't allowed to do that. I accepted that, but I couldn't help but point out that it's also not allowed to put dead flies in people's food. Her response was that they couldn't do anything about it and that she would inform her boss. She also mentioned that I should have come to the restaurant immediately with the food, but obviously I didn’t as I don't live nearby and I also had thrown the food away. It was really disappointing to see how unprofessional and unconcerned the staff at the restaurant were. They didn't seem to care about the safety of their customers or take the issue seriously. Even though the restaurant was often busy, with many people enjoying their meals there, I can't help but worry about the potential risks. I understand it's a small business, but that's no excuse for allowing something like this to happen. I hope that by sharing my experience, it serves as a warning to the management. Customers expect to be treated with respect and care, especially when it comes to matters of health and safety. Unfortunately, my experience there fell far short of those expectations. I strongly advise potential customers to think twice before dining at this place because the lack of concern for food safety and the unprofessional behaviour of the staff are major red flags.

I went with my family to this restaurant. We ordered 1 chicken devilled , 1 mutton devilled and 1 chicken 65 for the starter which were very delicious .The service was also very helpful BUT our main course (chicken madras & chicken chettinad with parota ) had the same sour taste.I am a chicken madras lover but this one was a VERY BAD experience for me. I definitely won’t recommend this restaurant to ANYONE. This was such a waste of my time AND half of my money.

Zero for Ambience! Average main dishes. Fish fry - old fishes which no one prefers (Had an uncomfortable night after having food from here). I would not recommend this place.

Food not bad. But the place could do with updating the chairs have seen better days, the wall paper is falling off. Made me wonder what condition the kitchen is in. I bought a prawn dish with veg as takeaway When i got home my husband found a forign body in the dish, looked like a piece of wood maybe off the surface or the chopping board. Hopefully not off the wooden floor, put us off completely, so will not be going there again.

Have I been to this restaurant ordered food in front of the door, It says card accepted and over the payment counter it says cash, only which is hidden inside. I requested to get it checked because of the conflicting information being displayed. The manager started swearing at me. I don't care. When I insisted him to take on card he's card machine started working, needs to be escalated to trading standards just to avoid minimal transaction cost and avoid tax to what extent they can fall. The only reason I am writing is because there is a constant trend in this restaurant. Better stay away from tax scammers

30/11/22 Wednesday lunch We three local middle aged pescatarian guys were celebrating one of our birthdays and decided to do our usual of going out for a local reasonably priced and tasty lunch. We have been to the Madras a few times before and to its predecessor The Green Cabin. It has always been one of the better Sri-Lankan/South Indian restaurants around that have an alcohol licence (others tending to be BYO but one always feels uncomfortable). We arrived at around 13:40hrs to find a near empty restaurant with faded decorations and furniture (the published promotional images are from when it opened!). A couple of guys were having a drink near the window and we took a table near them on by the window in the hope of attracting more people in (usually successful as we do not like dining alone). We were presented with the menus by the waiter/boss and as usual the selection is mixed traditional Indian and South Indian specialties. We decided against alcohol as it was lunchtime and a ordered lassi each. We are usually very wary of ordering too much of this cuisine as the food is quite spicy and therefore filling. Various delivery couriers were in and out during our stay so there was obviously delivery business going on despite the low numbers inside. A family did arrive later in our stay. I enquired about the mixed Thali (Veg set meal) special offer for that afternoon but decided against it. I ordered a Mutton Masala Dosai instead (on dining out I am more a flexitarian). We ordered a main each and a selection of sides to share. The waiter left and the drinks came quickly. The couple next to us were tucking into their dishes. The food came and came more, it seems that I had ordered the Thali by mistake so I was presented with a tray of mixed vegetarian dishes which were very tasty. The rest of the food came and yes it was too much but I was determined to finish my Thali and the main dish I ordered. The large Dosai I ordered took up the whole long metal serving tray but the filling inside was a third of the length but quite bulky and tasty. There Dosai was crisp and used for scooping up the sauces as is the way we did in our Temple Trail trip in South India many years ago! Finger bowls world have helped but I went to the (rather basic) toilets to wash my hands after. My friends found the foods spicy and delicious as usual and eventually we finished all the dishes offered...no doggy bags required. We finished at about 15:10 and ordered the bill which came to a very reasonable £50.90 (no alcohol of course). We paid by card and left a fiver tip. We left happy and sated, albeit sober into the streets, shops and market of Lewisham.

Should have read the reviews. Place is really bad. Oily and bland. We've all had an upset stomach from a few mouthfuls. Never again. Food is going in the bin. Waste of money

I ordered Panner masala dosa from this restaurant and they served me cockroach masala dosa. I just saw the other reviews and most of them complain the same. Anyone of the guys please file a complaint on them.

The food was more authentic Kerala food than Madras.. The briyani was good... But the coconut chutney for the dosa was spoilt!

Terrible! I asked for curd rice and they gauge me rice and vegetables without any curd! And when I called the restaurant, the chef lied that he put curd.. As you can see from the pictures.. there is no curd and I didn’t get any refund

Very bad service over the phone. Call to order the food but hang up the phone. And no any professionalism. Not recommended at all. Cannot even order the right food with the person who answer the phone. Always get wrong order. One day i got spoiled lamp rice for my order. Please do not order from this restaurant

I had yesterday (21st September 2022,I had dosa,all night I was vomiting and I had food poisoned,am hospitalised…have to complain about this to food inspectors honestly am so angry ….

The food from the.madras is packed full of flavour and is cheap to boot. As i work away all week i try and eat as healthy as possible shying away from macky dees. Madras has a large aray of authentic vegetarian dishes as well as fish. It also caters for meat lovers. They make their own paneer which is amazing. The menue has the standard jalfrezis and vindaloos but also has a lot of other dishes that i have not come across before . Try the chicken fry it is mega. The decore inside is dated and kitch so i wouldnt really recommend a sit down meal but if that doesnt bother you dine in is an option. Always busy with uber and just eat drivers.

Worst and only south indian restaurant in Lewisham 😁 will never recommend this place. I ordered more than twice and had very bad experience as the food was not fresh, they keep the food frozen and pre-heats before serving. Food was tasting so bad and old.

Sumptous Kerala food. Malabar Paratha and beef roast was the best I had! Good chilled beer too.

He has so much attitude as if you are doing him a favour by ordering the food, He will insult you more if you are a woman and that too Indian. It depends on the day I guess. Sometimes it’s really yummy and other times they really disappoint us. Worth trying the Kerala Beef fry and Biriyani.

Worth a try for indian food lovers. The pricing is on the reasonable side. The sitting area is small. Also do not expect too much from dine in experience. The food more than makes up for the lack of other shortcomings. In all its one the most reasonable india restaurants in the area. The non-vegetarians would surely love it.

So far, I have waited two hours for a takeaway that was supposed to take half an hour. It will probably never arrive. It is impossible to get through to the restaurant: I have called twenty times, and they either let it ring, or pick up then hang up. Do not order from this place if you actually want to receive food.

Absolutely Disgusted with the Hygeine! If I could I would give it a 0! We received our food ... & FOUND A COCKROACH INSIDE OUR CURRY! and on top of that it was packaged in a unhygienic way .. inside the food container it was wrapped in clingfilm and over the actual food. When we contacted the restaurant, we was told to bring the food back to prove it, and when we did ... they didn’t care and gave us £6 back out of the £30 we spent! I suggest NO ONE to buy food from here!! I’ve had many take aways in my life .... and never experienced something so disgusting! 🤮🤢

Just disgusting, I've ordered through deliveroo and what a big mistake that was. The food came in carrier bags like from the news agent and everything was packed in a absolute unappealing way, lassi was warm and put in a box meant for food in-between hot items. Dosas were soggy as were wrapped to death in clingfilm. You guys have no clue on how to pack food for delivery, everything looked sad, soggy and unappealing. After complaining about you to deliveroo they refunded the money but also blocked my account to my surprise. Stay away from this takeaway and get something decent unless you have animals to feed.

Had takeaway from this place a few times now and absolutely delicious every time, foods piping hot and very authentic, couldn't recommend enough Chicken or Lamb kedai is my personal fave, the meats very tender and tasty :)

EXCELLENT...We, a team of 5 visited the restaurant on a busy Friday were super impressed with the taste,quality and quantity. We ordered a full fish cooked in banana leaf, Porotta, Egg appam, Butter naan,Butter chicken masala,Saag Aloo,paneer tikka masala,Netholi fish fry,King Prawn fry and Chicken 65.Everything tasted fresh.

AMAZING - Tasty and authentic South Indian corner. Was almost surprised by how delicious and authentic everything tasted... idli and sambar / chutneys especially were out of this world! Delivery came on time and double sealed so nothing leaked at all.

Turned up cold, not a good start; soft poppadoms. We all felt the dishes were strange in an untasty way. Perhaps someone is trying too hard here but when I feel I could do better with a jar sauce at a fraction of the cost you have to wonder... I couldn’t recommend.

Excellent authentic South Indian food. Dosa are delicious. Go for the chef specials. Very yummy and affordable.

One star for delivering on time. This was the most disgusting Indian food I’ve ever ordered. The prawn curry and veg curry were watery and the prawns tough. The naan bread was undercooked. The bhajis were so oily they were awful. The poppadoms were soft. The medhu vada was tasteless. The masala dosa tasted old. Vegetable samosa was undercooked. The fish tikka was hard. It was all inedible and went into the bin. What a waste of £42!

Great Indian restaurant that serve beef which brings the restaurant well above other Indian restaurants . Also a wide range of other meats and fish . Only lacking in Ambience, otherwise it’s a fairly decent South Indian food and value for money as well . Caution: Ask to temper the spice to your level .

The food at Madras is awesome. This is not a looker, and perhaps I would rethink eating here, but the food, oh the food! is amazing! Order takeaway, and you'll be rewarded with a rather delicious meal. Madras serves the best Aubergine curry in town, and an all time favourite of mine. This is, hands down, the best, the one and only, the ultimate Aubergine curry. I still haven't come across a better one. Other delicacies I always enjoys are onion bhajis (moerish and fried to perfection, they can induce euphoria), chicken tikka (oh the creamy sauce) and chicken Jalfrezi. Personally, as a non Indian, I find Madras to be the best Indian restaurant in London.

Just made an order. Both items were cold so had to reheat in the microwave! Goes against the point of having a takeaway. The dosa was quite nice but the vindaloo was not authentic at all and nowhere near spicy as you'd expect. Also it didn't contain much chicken and was bulked out with potatoes. Overall, a disappointing experience. Two overpriced items to be delivered to us cold and in a long turnaround time. I do not recommend ordering from this place. The Madras Restaurant - what are you going to do about this?

Really good food.. authentic kerala good...

As we sat on the table and I ask for a high chair he says to me not to mess the floor and the table. That is too rude. He also says I mess the floor all the time. FYI every time I visit I ensure I pick up crumbs from the floor. So this was pretty offensive to me. I ask to speak to the manager. This guy has never been pleasant anyway. I have always felt his lack of welcoming when we got to eat but I took it as his personality. This is beyond acceptable that he tells me to leave. He pretends to talk on the phone because he cannot face a customer. It got on my nerves and I told him off without swearing so far. But he gives me the finger and walks into the kitchen I am raged. I am shouting with my baby by my side. Boycott this insensitive idiot.

Lovely little restaurant. Went as we were walking by on Tuesday and had again takeaway on Saturday because we loved it! Waiter was great really polite and attentive. Great dosas and the egg Kotthu is my new favourite thing.We went there bank holiday Monday. Friendly service. Got some great vegetarian dishes - paneer tikka masala, vegetarian thali. The portions were generous, all piping hot both temperature and spice-wise

We were at the restaurant on Sunday at 12.30pm for lunch and the chef came to take the order !!! There was no one else. He spoke basic English so couldn't tell us more about the menu. He looked at us as if "why did you come so early?" The food is very very Oily. Not for people with cholesterol...don't go here!!! Lump rice was very tasty. The menu said £7, yet in the bill it was £9. When I questioned, the Romanian lady said "price changed. Menu is wrong" When I was paying with my card, the Romanian lady said again "No card machine today, you walk 5 minutes to ATM" so I had to do that in the rain. Wish they told me before I ordered !!!! Stupid Service!!!

I've had a nightmare with this place the last two times I've ordered. The first, the order took one hour and forty five minutes to arrive. they didn't apologise or offer any discount. The second,I ordered via their website after creating an account. After 1 hour 30 mins I rang up to find out where the food was.they said they don't accept inline orders, despite there being a function on their website to order. Again, no apology. just indifference. The food is ok but NOT worth this. AVOID.

Table booked for 7.45, got served 9.30. Food was good but most of the dishes were lukewarm so had to be returned to be reheated!! They asked for cash which is OK if you know but they didn't say until the bill came. My jury is out atm.
