Macari's Chip Shop in Inverclyde

Went down today for a chippy tea in my wheelchair from caravan park, said explicatley have an intolerance to vinegar please do not put on food, gets back to caravan and covered in vinegar, don't have enough battery in my wheelchair to go back down, waste of money had to go straight in the bin, If you have allergy or food intolerance avoid this place as he can not follow the instruction

Chips and curry sauce , Soggy small chips which were not fresh and were luke warm , food had been previously cooked , nice man who served me

The fish was nice; very meaty and fresh. Unfortunately, the batter was too thick and soggy and was thrown away with the packaging. The batter on my partner's sausage was crisper, but the sausage was freshly cooked. The chips were lovely. My recommendation is ask for your food to be cooked fresh. The difference is night and day. You can practically see the batter turning to mush on the food crammed together in the heated display unit.

£17.00 for fish and chips twice is quite expensive, if they are very good then I don't mind so much. However this was not the case, don't get me wrong, the chips were quite nice, but that is where any form of compliment ends. The fish was over cooked and full of bones and as for the batter, I have belts that are less rubbery, it was as boot leather. On a more positive note, the young lady that served us could not have been more pleasant.

The most overpriced, discusting, chips we have ever tasted. The gentleman was unfriendly as he didn't really want to sell me just 2 large portions of chips.

Dropped in on the way home from work this evening for a bag of chips. They were amazing, perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Flavour was superb, amongst the best I’ve ever tasted. Will definitely be back!

Popped in way back from Troon. Ordered up two single fish and to say the least it was not good. Batter was soggy and thick. We scraped off the batter and binned it. The fish was just about edible suffice to say we won't be back. Once a very good chippie has gone downhill

£8 for a dried up, tasteless piece of fish with soggy batter and similar chips. Food taken from the ‘ hot cabinet’ was barely warm ! This I’m sure, was yesterdays fish. Loads of salt and vinegar were put on , presumably to give it some taste ! Never again, don’t waste your money here.

Great service and good prices good portion sizes and quick service, served with a smile and fed a family of 4 adults and 2 kids for £35

Visited this shop on several occasions due to there delicious fish and chips. Visited Sunday evening and ordered two fish and chips.Had to wait 10 minutes or so for them to cook the meal. Was not aware that they were ready to close and watched s they turned up or on the fryers. End result was a tasteless soggy peice of fish with chips of a similiar vain. All to the bin. Never again.

Very expensive, we purchased large portion of chips and they charge £3.40, the portion size was a small box, rip-off prices for what you get for your money here, they know people would pay as most of their customers are tourists and that's why they are overcharging.

Nice food at reasonable prices and very friendly staff. Worth a visit before you go onto the train or ferry.

Stopped in a few times for fish and chips. Never had an issue with the food, you get what you pay for, decent size portions and reasonable prices.

Went last night omg disappointing batter of fish not cooked properly same on sausage...rolls and pickles curry sauce was only thing we ate ....starving rest of night as had paid 27.00 for the bin

On way back from Troon decided to have a fish supper. Suppers were one and a half large haddock with generous portion of chips. Batter was a but soft and not enough salt on - that's the reason I've marked it down, fish and chips were still hot when we stopped at the lay-by at Inverkip to eat them. Next time we'll share a supper as a fish supper was enough for two to share. Service was as expected.

Got a single fish out the so-called Hot Cabinet, walked the 6 seconds to my car, drove the 40 ft to the ferry and took a bite of the fish and was hardly luke warm. I took another bite in case it was just the edge of the fish. Nope! Cold fried fish.. I took it back and told him politely the fish was cold.. The guy throws a fiver at me! He had at least 12 fish in the cabinet. I asked for another, he refused and said they were all the same.. He didn't even offer to cook me a fresh one or even take one out of the so called Hot cabinet and give it a quick heat in the oil.. i was bloody starving!! He was not interested in sorting it, making me think that somehow it was my fault that he keeps his hot cabinet under heated.. 50 degree Fahrenheit Fish is just waiting to make someone ill - EHO should be in there with a probe.. Don't know why a business would rather treat you like garbage and thus get a rotten review, than give decent service and sort the problem and there would no rotten review.. continue to treat customers like that and you won't have a business.. Deliberately Underheating a Hot Cabinet to save a few pounds is a terrible business practice to mention unsafe for your customers..

I stood outside in the freezing cold along with 20 odd others in the covid queue to get this sublime battered fish supper.Perfect crispy batter. Sea fresh fish.Crispy proper chips. The old fella that runs the place is just lovely. Loves a wee chat. Proper chippy in every way.Note: I've been here many times. Id say if you want the experience I've just had, go at a busy period.

Ate here while staying at the neighbouring holiday park. The fish was fresh and delicious and the chips were perfectly cooked, the pricing was also fair for the quality. I would recommend if you're in the area

I had a sausage supper whilst on holiday and the amount of customers queuing for food was a good sign but to be fair to the gent behind the counter another member of staff would have helped as would a smile or hello especially to those of us who are new customers,the food was fair,prices slightly high and if having a sauce over chips as I did then a bag is a must as by the time I got back to the caravan the sauce was all over the boot of my car..I will however try again.

We both visited here on the 30th, and can honestly say we would have no hesitation in recommending this fast food eatery to anyone, the place appears clean, and the food is cooked to order, which means it's extremely fresh.

3fish suppers £22.50 sorry I live in Prestwick and can have a pensioners supper for £4.50 . Obviously they depend on passers by and caravan park

Waiting for last bus, wet + dark night, so got Fish Supper here.Best chippie chips I can remember + crispy fresh fish. Lots of Footiependants + Italien TV in backshop...you almost feel ur in Italy for Frito Misto... great place to shelter + refuel.

The chips were soggy, greasy, probably the worsted I've ever had, they all ended up in the bin. The was greasy, boney, soggy batter. A complete waste of money, we would have preferred to continue being hungry. I've given it one star only because I can't give it none.

Stopped on way home from visiting family ,told about this place,well worth it great portions,crisp fish and sausage in batter ,lovely chips parked up further down the road and enjoyed.

Went to Weymss Bay Caravan Park, been before and been to Chip Shop before. Really good quality food and decent prices.

Visited whilst on holiday in Wemyss Bay, ordered 2 lots of chips and gravy and a haggis supper. The food was great, reasonably priced, and if we were local we’d definitely return

On way back from Troon popped in for a couple of fish suppers. As before suppers were excellent. Highly recommended

Directly opposite the Bute ferry and Wemyss Bay train station, Macari’s is a welcome sight after a long day, The owners are friendly and cheerful. We had haddock and chips and it was excellent. This isn’t a cheap option but it’s great quality so worth every penny.

BUT best chippy in the area. Italian owned and ran by him. Its always busy and that tells you everything you need to know really.

Fish and chips as they should be, fresh cooked worth the wait especially identifying the Italian football clubs pennants. Parking right outside the door also

We've visited Macaris' twice recently - and we can only say that out of all the cooked items on the well thought out menu they are all freshly cooked, non greasy, more-ishly tasty, good sized portions, and served up promptly by a helpful, knowledgeable, friendly dedicated team.

We came here after a recommendation all the way from Lanark, and weren't disappointed. Friendly staff, fresh tasty food and very reasonable prices. Definitely a must visit.

We both visited here Tuesday march the 26th for the second time , and can honestly say we both would have no hesitation on recommending this fast food/takeaway to others , appears very clean , with fast efficient service .

Always amazing. love the chips and the seasonings spot on for vinegar and salt. Chip roll is the best iv ever tasted and curry sauce is delicious.

Travelled down from glasgow again, friend over from Ireland. As always we eat in this chip shop ,just love the place . Food is always fresh and tasty ,can honestly say never had a bad supper out of here . Well done again

Best fish and chips by a mile. Full of flavour , freshly made, batter perfectly crispy, and very good price. The italian man owner/ worker is a very friendly character Highly recommended.

While staying in the nearby caravan site feeling peckish we both decided to give this takeaway chip shop a try, the shop appeared extremely clean, we were served very quickly, and the food food was very fresh and tasty 😋 so no complaints.

What can I say.. this must be the worst chip shop I have ever bought from. The fish was grey and tasted salty, the chips had a taste about them, made worse by both the ketchup being vinegary and the brown sauce lacking vinegar.

Stopped off on way back from Largs. The queue was outside the door, normally a good sign. It was a good sign the fish and chips were excellent which we thoroughly enjoyed. Worth a visit if you're in the area but you need to be hungry as the portions are large

Got a family meal spent over £30 for 6 ppl portions were very small no kids options available, chicken nuggets were like cardboard, fish dried out and full of bones chips greasy, batter hard and dried out, worst meal ever. Had to return

The chips here are very tasty and the gravy is lovely. At times, the fish can be a little salty though. Prices a little high for what you get though.

Batter was delicious. Chips were that perfect balance between soft and crispy. Would drive back just for another!

Had fish and chips here as we were staying at the caravan park. It was lovely and the fish was fresh with crispy batter and they even had chippy sauce which we didn't expect being on the west coast!

Fish and chips were very mediocre. Nothing to rave home about. Maybe it's an English thing but was gutted they didn't do mushy peas.

Have been to this fish & chip shop last year while staying at Parkdean Caravan Park, I'm a lover of fish and chips my favourite meal by far, so in my 65 yrs I have had a few to say the least, what do I look for in fish and chips easy I like well cooked with crispy batter not what I was served here, batter fell apart so was left with white fish flesh and soggy batter chips under cooked, would not say this was a cheap meal, if you look at the ratings this place is #2 0f 2 . what would the rating be if their was 10 shops in the area ? I think #10 of 10.

No complaints at all about the fish, it was tasty enough, fresh and well cooked with a nice light batter.Chips were undercooked, really need to 've in longer to get some colour on them. When they gave more colour (caramelisation) they have more flavour.Owner was rude to my wife when she asked for mushy peas. He said "your in Scotland now, No mushy peas in Scotland" in a rude and stern way. Clearly didn't realise that although we are English we have lived in Scotland for 11 years and have been able to get them at every other chippy we've been in in Scotland.Still nice fish though.

Fresh fish and chips. The owner is Italian and speaks broken English which I loved - so authentic. Prices were ok. Quality of the food is excellent.

tried calling for 30mins to order a delivery although constant no answer then i sent my boyfriend down the hill from the holiday camp for 3 chicken nugget suppers and one chicken burger, and when he got down there he found there was no chicken left. This hour of wasted time could have been avoided if someone was available to answer the phone.

Visited while staying in the caravan park. Very reasonable prices and very large portions. The fish and chips would easily feed 2 adults. Sausage supper also a large portion and the chips were lovely. Wish I lived closer so I could visit more often.

This is a small chip shop just opposite the train station at Wemyss Bay that you just have to visit. The chips are amazing and the portions are very generous. The fish looked beautiful all crispy in the batter (I did not have any as the chip s were more than enough for me - I will have fish next time I visit!!)

My daughter and I shared a portion of Fish and Chips during a visit to the area. The fish was fresh and the batter lovely and crispy and the chips were delicious. Eating, whilst sitting close to the water watching the world go by, what more could you ask for?

Not just a delicious fish supper with batter fried to a T but also that personal touch that you don't get often these days. When we asked if we could have some hot water to heat dinner for the baby not only was it not a problem but mr macari invited us back shop to make free use of his kitchen. Cant imagine many proprietors being so generous and trusting these days to let someone use the facilities in this way. A lovely man. Stopped here after a day in largs and so glad we did. Would definitely recommend. Best batter on a fish we'd had in a long time and fish delicious.

The chips are very tasty and I love the gravy. The sausages are not to my liking (too soggy). The portions are way too small though and the prices are on the high side so not value for money.

The only highlight of my holiday to weymss bay, great food freshly cooked. Great staff. Would go back there just for a sausage supper.

Fantastic wee chippy in Wemyss Bay , we were in the Caravan Park for a weekend and me as usual wanted a chippy :) so went there . It's the only one in the village but it's fantastic and very cheap , fish supper just over £5 canny say better than that , not greasy either , great wee chippy .

You must not miss this place, it doesn't look much but is ran by a first generation Italian and his fish suppers are sublime! Very fresh, do not miss this one!

Travel down to Wemyss Bay quite a lot and often go into Macari's. The fish and chips are to die for. Service always excellent.

Absolutely spot on brilliant chips, cooked to perfection huge pieces of fish again perfectly cooked. Huge portions. A very happy family of four, will certainly eat there again some sunny day!

Always a good place to stop off if you are in the Wemyss Bay area.The mains are fantastic the only thing letting the place down is his chips are not the best, due mainly to the cheap potatoes used. But other than that the stuff is first class.

I've eaten here loads of times, usually if i'm waiting on the ferry to Rothesay. I've NEVER had a bad take away. Its consistently good. The food is really nice & good quality ingredients are used & you never have a long wait on it. The staff are friendly. I only wish there was a chippie like this on Bute!!!
