Really enjoyable evening last night at Lunar despite the thunder and lightening outside! Good service, delicious food and wine. We will be back ! Phillip is terrific, personable, helpful and so welcoming. We wish you continued success. Sarah and Michael

The ambiance and decor of your restaurant were exceptional, creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. The quality of the food was excellent, and the flavors were well-balanced. We did note a few minor discrepancies between the menu descriptions and the dishes served. For example, the chocolate fondant was accompanied by honeycomb ice cream rather than the advertised vanilla, and the steak included an iceberg wedge salad which was not listed on the menu. While these were small inconsistencies, they could be easily addressed to ensure that guests have a more accurate expectation of their meal. The soup of the day was particularly noteworthy and was enjoyed by all at our table. The staff were friendly and attentive, although there were occasional delays in service, such as with drink orders and clearing plates. These delays, while not significant, could be improved to enhance the overall dining experience. Overall, we had a positive dining experience at Lunar and would be happy to return in the future. We believe that addressing the minor inconsistencies between the menu and the served dishes, as well as improving the efficiency of service, would further enhance our experience and make Lunar an even more enjoyable destination for diners.

Excellent sunday lunch with fresh lovely produce. First time visiting and staff were accommodating and friendly - front of house was very professional and organised. Would definitely recommend the sunday lunches and soup starter.

The main was beautiful (sunday lunch) but the pudding was not worth the money and frankly inedible. Got charged for tap water when this was offered as we were seated, staff seemed more bothered about talking to each other than service or smiling. Décor is very strange, feels like a school canteen! 1st part of the restaurant is beautiful but the back section looks like they ran out of energy and money so just put a big rug down and some kids paintings.

Came here last Saturday for supper. The head waitress was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I had the hogget and the steak which were brilliant. I've been reviewing for 10 years and have reviewed over a 1000 different places, but this one would be up there. You can forget about the past three mediocre reviews in the past, this place deserves your attention Ultimately we were over the moon with our experience or should I say under the moon!

Excellent a la carte lunch in terms of choice. Each dish beautifully presented and delicious. Charming and professional service from Filip and Tabitha. Light and airy restaurant with fascinating decor. Being within the World of Wedgwood means that one can have a full day experience. Even though nearly an hours drive from home, we look forward to returning.

A beautiful and most memorable evening for two, our table was well positioned, lit with plenty of space and intimacy, greeted with a cool crystal glass of champagne to clear our palettes we ordered sumptuous starter of scallops with cauliflower and hint of Asian spices to get our appetites underway followed by a whole seabass with capers and tomatoes, a healthy and meaty fish supper on a Friday with a selection of accompaniments to try including carrots, jersey royals, double fried chips and a tasty salad all good portions in individually presented portions. At this point we felt it necessary to enjoy the drama of the table and restaurant to try a cold martini with lavender before the passionfruit tart with a raspberry ice scoop. A most wonderful and slow meal enjoyed to celebrate it being a summer Friday in Staffordshire. The staff and service was welcoming, graceful and attentive on request, including a lovely chat with supporting waiters. Philippe was an amazing host. We will definitely be dining at Lunar again and again, especially for our Friday night fish suppers. The price was very reasonable considering the service, setting and definitely the beautiful food. We would recommend a visit to anyone and everyone, do not miss going to this restaurant while you are in Staffordshire. The art collection is also very beautiful with lots of choice to discover giving you a completely unique experience. A++++

Incredible experience for date night. The staff was so attentive and friendly, not only that but we was given so many facts about the amazing art, we was shown to the secret bar and around the whole restaurant. The food was one of the best meals we have ever had and the recommendation of the wine was perfection. The attention to detail blew us away! Highly recommend. So much to say about our overall experience...but please read on! We had booked this visit 9 months ago, when everything was quite different operationally at LUNAR and therefore went in with a little trepidation that the changes made would not make this visit as memorable as we were hoping, but it was, and for the right reasons (with a couple of pointers) Key points below: The entrance to the restaurant is striking and when first seated inside, it feels unique and different and very much 'on theme', creating talking points straight away. We were celebrating a special occasion, and were very kindly treated to a welcome toast, but then we were not given a drinks menu - which prevented us from ordering another drink until we asked for dessert (we were not prompted with Starter/Mains). When doing so, the cocktail list was great Food was great - probably correctly on price point but something that could be considered with 2 or 3 course a la carte fixed price point moving forward. For starters, the scallops were well cooked and paired well, for main, my fillet steak was brought to life with the best accompanying sauce and onion i've had and the banana cheesecake was just right to finish the meal. My partners cod main looked delicious and she loved the chocolate fondant. Philip (Restaurant Manager) is so passionate about the restaurant and if nothing else, we want to see the restaurant do well for him. He gave us a wonderful tour of the space, highlighting the meaning behind each room and functions of the restaurant - but realistically this is not possible for each guest. We would recommend some material to summarise this - explaining the purpose and story behind LUNAR, highlighting the art work (and that it is for sale) and to ask about specific elements of the experience- ensuring the knowledge is shared but potentially time is saved! The 'secret garden' bar area is a wonderful space for pre or post dinner drinks and there should be more made of this - whether it be for eventing or just part of the dining experience. We had the pleasure of sitting in their after dinner with a coffee, but as the only ones, it felt a little 'awkward'. We did feel the restaurant (and Six Towns distillery) is hindered by the World of Wedgwood post-closing time as the site goes incredibly quiet. There may need to be a marketing campaign that brings the site to life... or alternatively a consideration of how to draw visitors in between closing time and the restaurant re-opening for evening service shortly after. We will be back when we come to visit Trentham Gardens / WoW in the near future as we really want this space to do well... if you've got to this point, please give it a go yourselves. Visited with family and expected the published set lunch menu to be told it’s not on - I would suggest updating your website. Anyhow the alternative lunch menu was equally as good and we had a very nice lunch, which I thought was priced correctly according to the area and the establishment. Very friendly service and absolutely no complaints about the food. We will recommend and return.

I booked lunar as we were on a weekend pottery course just down the road and this was our Saturday night away. Hadn’t done any research nor really understood how special this place was until we got there. It’s one of the most expensive chef menus we have had but was interesting. The venue itself is on an unprepossessing business park - but once inside the restaurant you are immediately impressed with the high ceilings, excellent and interesting contemporary decor and very attentive, warm service. The premise of the restaurant is explained on arrival and then the Saturday 9 course fixed chefs menu unfolded. Every course was beautifully presented and tasty - some outstanding. The one that will linger on the taste buds for me was the rhubarb and ginger dessert which was a gorgeous delicate flavour and stunningly beautiful. Can recommend for a special evening

We visited with family and friends for a 60th Birthday. We use to live in the area and knew its location however it’s a little tricky to find in the dark as the directional signage is not lit. Big car park when you find it First challenge completed we were met by a lovely member of staff who took us through to the “secret bar” which was fun. Everyone arrived and we were seated at a very nice table. The food was just lovely every course was spot on. I had the belly pork which was melt in your mouth all of our party gave a very big thumbs up. Staff were perfect…very attentive…explained each dish in turn and took the time to make sure we were enjoying the evening. If you want fast food this is not your place as courses are cooked fresh and great care is taken on presentation so the time between courses maybe a little longer than in some other places. The quality of food and staff more than make up for it and some It’s a 90 mile round trip for us however we enjoyed it so much we have booked my Aunts 90th Birthday the last Sunday of the month and are really looking forward to visiting again…well done

3 Friends invited me there for my birthday . Before we were seated , we were explained the story behind the name of the restaurant , which was a nice touch . The food was really good and the service / staff really good . The decor is superb . It was a nice suprise from my friends and I ( and them ) thoroughly enjoyed my evening .

Its not local but saw a groupon voucher and thought lets see whats its like, theres a nice ambience,staff attentive, food delicious especially the sea bream,the panacotta could have been a little richer but had a lovely vanilla flavor...overall would return ,its a nice treat and when a pub is knocking £38 for 3 course its decent value

Been before when first opened and service was fantastic almost too much but you do expect that with a new restaurant. Now 12 months on and service is awful, if it was your local pub you would say not as good as normal but they add a service charge. My starter was bland, wife’s was delicious. Both mains were delicious, my wife’s dessert was average mine was nice but not really to standard expect. At nearly £50 a menu the standard of food and service should be exemplary. Hope it succeeds but although they are mentioned in Michelin books and rated highly, they will never truly succeed unless the entire team works to same standards as the chef.

This was the 3rd time we've been and sad to say Chef wasn't there again! I am struggling to see how this potentially great kitchen and dining experience can stay open if the head chef is hardly there!. I asked if he was in and when to be told he's very busy and may pop in the following evening. I'm sorry but there's no stars here for service and definitely not food - needs a head chef I'd say! I'm not saying front of house were bad - far from it but seeing as there were not many covers to deal with the staff did a lot of standing and chatting to each other. Service when at the table was monotone and very brief as if they were all new starters. Our recommendations unfortunately are not for here but there are a couple of jewels in Stoke and Stone. Shame because we having eaten Nialls food at Sat Bains, Nottingham and at Whatley Manor, had high hopes for Niall and this venture. I just think there's been too many irons in the fire so to speak. Good luck on your next venture and stick with it or cut back.... maybe?

As a journalist and sometime food writer / reviewer, I’ve been lucky to eat in some amazing restaurants. While Lunar gets many things right, there is certainly room for improvement in some areas. First, lovely welcome from wait staff who explained why it’s called lunar (a reference to Josiah Wedgwood and his connections with the lunar society). we had warm bread and salty butter, then to start, my mushroom tart with tarragon emulsion was superb, with crisp, light, buttery pasty, and rich, earthy mushrooms topped with a green salad. My husband was less impressed with his mackerel in a soy glaze, which he couldn’t really taste, and the portions of fish were on the modest side for a £49.99 three course meal. Then it swapped round - hub loved the main of venison atop a potato fondant and the rich jus. I was less impressed with my root vegetable pethivier (essentially a pie) with lentils and green cabbage, and felt it needed some refinement. The chocolate cremeux, while tasty, was served with too little of the bitter orange sauce that I was so looking forward to, particularly as there was chocolate soil and honeycomb on the plate, too. I really didn’t like how the waiter bought another bottle of sparkling water without asking us properly first either as we didn’t really need it - not everyone who comes here has loads of money and anyway you don’t want to be charged for things you don’t need. wait staff on the whole were lovely, and courteous though I would have preferred something a bit more chatty and more introduction / background to the dishes. we asked the waiter if the blue cheese tart was savoury or had any sweet notes and he didn’t know - wait staff at a high end restaurant should know the menu inside out and should have tasted some if not all of the dishes. some past posters have mistakenly said that this is a 2 Michelin star restaurant - it isn’t. It’s in the Michelin guide along with 7 other Staffordshire restaurants. While Niall Keating has had Michelin stars for his other restaurants, lunar feels far off the mark. Much more refinement and consistency needed - when I ate here before it was much better. Also should we now call time on the open kitchen concept? Didn’t enjoy seeing the chef blowing his nose and hoiking his trousers up! Perhaps we should give them some peace - what are we really seeing in there after all? We are too far away to see the painstaking magic of plating up!

What an amazing place. People travel to Manchester, Birmingham and London to get the quality of food you get here. Best place I've ever eaten in Staffordshire. Amazing

We visited on the Christmas Eve. Starter was nice and the waitress was helpful in pairing the wine. However the rest of service was slow and lack of basic standard- the boy in charge of our table cant hold plates steadily and always forget clearing used plates and bowls before serving the main / desert to the table - he seems a temporary staff so we forgive him. But the annoying part was he then forgot put our desert order. The whole family waited nearly an hour for desert, he then realised he did not put the desert in computer system. Well, he did not apologise and pretend we did not order from the first place. When the desert, Christmas pudding arrive, no fire, but a warm pudding -- I did ask when I pay the bill. A more senior waiter told me it might be due to the chef run out of brandy!!! For your reference, we arrived at 1:30 for lunch and left after 5pm for a three course lunch. As you can imagine, due to the poor service, I have to go to the desk to ask for bill and pay. As a party of 5, we were charged for 6 on the bill - I realised it after arrived home- booking at Lunar requires pre-authorised card payment so I never thought they could get guest numbers wrong. First time in my dining journey, in a 2-star Michelin restaurant, I read through the bill in full details. Interestingly, I found the bill suggested we are a group of 7 guests (service charge is compulsory for more than 6 guests?) and we were charged lunch for 6 lunch-menus, and we are a group of 5!!! There is about 60 GBP over charge. I can't believe Lunar could achieve a two-star with their quality of service nor the food - a lot of strange tricks. Food: Salmon starter was nice. goat cheese starter is too simple. Mains are not Michelin standard by all means. Sirloin roast and turkey roll were using the same salty sauce -- quality is acceptable if they were served on a hot plate, presentation quality similar to a Browns or Piccolino standard. Sea bream is bearable, the presentation was poor. Desert: not worth for 1.5 hr waiting, not 2-star either.

The venue is lovely and very tastefully decorated. We had the taster menu. Every course was amazing. Although each course is small by the end we were well and truely full. Each course was explained to us including where the ingredients were sourced. The staff were extremely attentive and informative, nothing was too much trouble. Definitely recommend it for a special night out.

Wow what we can say. dinner with the family and the food, atmosphere, staff, and experience didn't disappoint. so many courses, over the evening, lovely relaxed feel, no rushing, beautiful surroundings. Left us needing to return very soon

This restaurant has gone from strength to strength as the food offering has evolved over the last two years. Superbly sourced ingredients cooked and presented with skill showing the knowledge, professionalism and character of Craig and Niall. Front of house team are enthusiastic, well trained and skilled at delivering high quality service. Having been twice recently, once for dinner and once for lunch I can confirm a consistent level of high quality excellence in dining. This is a special place that will, I’m sure, get the much deserved recognition it deserves in the coming months.

Just wow! Firstly, I bought a 3 course Sunday lunch with a glass of wine each for my partner’s birthday via Groupon a couple of months ago. There’s always the worry if you might be treated as second class in some way, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The entire team were amazing from start to finish, the food was absolutely incredible and the service outstanding. We were SO impressed, they really make the experience special and explain the history of the place, brought us a card deck of the art available when they spotted us looking at it etc. Truly above and beyond. Anyway, this is going to get expensive because now we’re dying to come back in the week for the tasting menu!! Couldn’t fault a thing, thank you Lunar team for making our day a real treat ☺️

Firstly from the moment you walk in the staff make it a special and memorable occasion. I had the trout starter, beef sirloin main and a blue cheese tart for desert. Oh dear. We had great expectations for Lunar. What a disappointment. Over priced, the tiniest of portions and all together completely over rated. If Lunar wants to be trading in 2023 it must give value for money.
