Lows Traditional Fish & Chips in Aberdeenshire

This used to be a great chipper but I’ve been continually disappointed over the past few years with how poor the fish is here. For what you pay, the fish portion sizes are terrible and greasy too. I think they try to make up the portion sizes with loads of chips (which are average at best). I’ve had enough and won’t be going back. PS. The service is good and they do their best to get the order out quickly, it’s just the quality of the food that’s gone downhill.

Had a really tasty fish supper here tonight, my husband saw the fryer freshly bread the fish and cook it, it was piping hot, really crunchy and very tasty.

They might aswell have waved the salt in the vague direction of my chips as there was little to none on them. The fish was still moving and the bottle of Fanta wasn’t up to regulation size

My local chippy. I don't often eat out at these places but we had a few friends over so we ordered one. £50 for 5 meals which was pretty decent to be fair. Quality is there and the staff are always friendly, regardless if they are off their feet with orders. Good work from the young team behind the counter with all that stress! I've been there. Whenever I get a chippy in Westhill, it's here.

Hi dropped in for fish n chips i travel a lot from Ayrshire to Inverness to to st andrews i gave this 5 stars for the fish and the chips were edible not like other well known chip shops chips brick hard and fish tasteless so am here for 3 days and al be back staff very efficient and the place is spotless

I have never had a smaller portion of chips from a chip shop. The haggis was basically inedible, and I chucked it in the bin. Fish portion was tiny and not the best quality. Basically one of the worst chippies I have ever been to.

Really not good… soggy chips, soggy batter that tasted of onions and not good fish neither cod nor haddock. Even a guy who happened to ask me what we thought of it because his taste experience was equally bad. I have given the review a 3 only down to the good organisation for ordering . Food a 2 at best most of that went in the bin!

I went in tonight for my second fish and chips and it was the same as last time my mother sed it’s bad aso to night and that wat you gave me free you have to sort this out because it’s your standards going here now I won’t be returning because there are better around kind regards Timothy stevens

Had the jumbo fish and chips. The price must have gone up compared to photos of the menu. £11.90. It comes in a box, which means you don’t get a lot of chips compared to other chip shops. Which was a shame for the price and the fish was very oily. Not impressed. Sorry to say. Overpriced and chips are cheep as chips to make yet they give a measly amount. Jumbo? Eh no. Won’t be back. Bye.

Undersized - this was meant to be a jumbo

Well it was my first time coming to this chipper. The service was fine the wait time was fine but from the reviews I think I just lucked out. However the batter for my jumbo sausage tasted heavily of onion. Which wasn’t pleasant. The batter wasn’t very crunchy either. Most likely won’t be back.

The past couple of visits food has been awful. I thought I would give it another go but no change. I ordered breaded fish I thought I had broke a tooth it was that hard. The person who took our order gave us the impression she couldn’t be bothered with us. I even emailed Lows and have heard nothing back so will not be back again

Best fish and chip shop I've ever been too, everything was brilliant.

Over the past 6 or so years the quality has gone downhill. I keep trying and am repeatedly disappointed. I rarely receive a chip that is longer than 2-3 cm (inch). The oil used for frying has an unpleasant taste and aftertaste, If you order curry sauce and the food is bagged up for you, the servers often place the curry sauce on its side, so by the time you reach home the top has leaked and most of your sauce is in the wrapping. (I have mentioned this to the management several times, but it still happens). The fish and batter is usually OK. They tend to be very busy at peak times so I would recommend to phone your order ahead. Lows needs more local competition and they might improve. There are NOW other options that are not too far away, at the old Hazlehead Police Station (Dolphin) , in Elrick (Hosies) and in Blackburn (Mike's Famous Fish and Chips).

Chips were tasteless and made from poor quality potatoes and although the steak pie was good, overall the highish price means we will go elsewhere in future.

Went in to Lows late Monday evening after moving house from Derby to Aberdeen. Staff were friendly and welcoming, food cooked fresh in front of me and damn, it was some of the best fish and chips we had had in ages! Will happily go back again. 🙂

Very nice fish n chips shop. As a matter of fact, this review has made me decide that I am going to go get one last meal from here before I leave! A shorter blonde lady and a taller young gentleman was in there every visit I made. Shame on me for not getting their names, but they were very friendly and always made sure my order was correct. I look forward to visiting back here next year, when I come back. Thank you to all!

This is probably the best fish and chip shop in northeast Scotland. Always absolutely first class. Can't find anything to fault it, and they even have gluten free options.

It's 32 miles from where we live and have been going for over 3 years, it's never been less than good and it's generally very good and we have had a couple of excellent.fish varies so consistency is key and Lows does a great job, sometimes there's a lot of young staff that don't smile too much but they'll get there...the only other place we go is Oor Wullies nowhere else we have been west of Aberdeen compares.

Not allowed to put no stars because I would of. This place is always busy and I’m yet to figure out why.. £6.90 for this is a joke, anything that has batter is always burnt or deep fried and burnt. Expensive and burnt sums this place up.

Lows offer quite a wide range chipper menu, freshly made to your order, with service so quickly as possible. Decent quality too.

It has been a while since I had fish and chips from Lows and had been looking forward to it. Sadly it ended up being a disappointing experience lacking flavour and the quality it used to be. On the positive - prompt service and friendly staff.

It's a hit or a miss here. Last visit, the fish was tasteless and chips undercooked. Always busy though, so it must have lots of happy customers.

Great service and best fish and chips I've had in Aberdeen

2nd week in a row we phoned to order for collection and had to call back after 30 mins on both occasions as we had not been called back. No apology on either occasion, last week due to the storms when we called back we were told that they were no longer taking phone orders, so why answer the phone. Told to order on line which we did for 6 o’clock and still had to wait outside until 6.30. Tonight after finally getting a call back, half an hour later, were told the pick up would be ready at 7.10, got a call at 5 to 7 to ask where we were in the car park, well nowhere because we weren’t due to be there until 7.10! Really bad customer service which is a shame because the fish and chips are excellent.

Disgusting greasy food 2nd time Iv been hoping it was just an of day but no all food was dripping in grease and tasted of! Went in the bin and I’ll never be back! 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Wow the worst portion of chips I have had in years. Dry, old scraps and not many at that!!! If you have that many staff, the food should be excellent, not just the service. . Never be back here. Very disappointing for the price.

I've only been to Low Traditional Fish and Chips once and I did find the food to be really good. Unfortunatly, I ordered two standard fish suppers and was given two smalls and charged for standards. I know this because I over heard the young lad serving me ask an older gentmen the size of the fish and being told small. The shop was busy at the time and the staff were freindly. I would recommend Lows, but I'll be checking my orders before I leave if there is an next time.

I'm a customer at this chippy every couple of months or so, and the quality of the the fish suppers is consistently excellent; fresh tasting fish with great batter, and the chips are very good, too. I usually phone in for a collection, as it can be very busy, and this works well.
