Wandering around Bridport looking for lunch after doing the Brewery Tour, we came across the Lord Nelson & how pleased we are that we found it. Welcome was good, food was delicious (my roast beef sandwich was the best I’ve ever had) & the small walled courtyard was perfect on a sunny day. We’ll be back!!

We paid a budget price for a twin room and we received a 5 star service! 🌟 Fantastic hosts - Kenny and Christine who went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after. Nice room - very clean, spacious, light and bright. Fantastic breakfast, which we weren't expecting at the price we paid. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much.

We had a two night stay mid week and found the pub very friendly with a clean and comfortable en suite room. The beer is excellent and well kept. The location is great, very near to Bridport town centre and an adjacent public car park next door. We will use the pub again and would recommend it.

Thank goodness for being stuck at the traffic lights or we wouldn't have seen this pub! It looked very old and traditional from the outside but inside it's much more modern than you would expect. Very nice, pleasant, young lady who served us, I had a delicious lime soda (which wasn't too sweet as some are) as I was driving, hubby had a cold beer. We walked through to the small enclosed garden and spotted the wooden indoor skittle alley which we had a go on, our son continued playing whilst we sat outside with our drinks, one of hubby's favourites is a good pie and we will be returning here in August to enjoy one. Highly recommend this pub.

Stopped in Bridport for Lunch and dropped into this nice looking pub/hotel for a bite. Ordered a drink and asked for lunch menu. We were then told we only do pies, nothing else no ploughman's lunches, no sandwiches, no other sort of food. Pies only. As we were travelling we didn't want a heavy lunch so pie wasn't really an option. On that basis decided not to eat there. So a fine pub, nice atmosphere, no issues with staff or service. Just remember we only do pies if you want to eat.

Thankfully, the Nelson has not been given the dreaded upgrade. It remains much the same as it was in the 1960s. That is no bad thing. Friendly and welcoming. Good local ales from Palmers. Great jukebox. Games room.

My fiancé and I visited the Lord Nelson hotel a few weeks ago after a lovely stay in Bridport. It's such a shame that our visit was tarnished by our experience at the Lord Nelson. After a very uninviting and unfriendly welcome from the manager/hostess we decided against our better judgement to stay for dinner. The good was subpar but the staff were worse. The female worker seemed too busy gossiping about fellow guests to take our order and when we finally got service it was rude and rushed.Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are many lovely places in bridport to frequent instead.

Town Centre Pub serving a hearty, reasonably priced 'fat boys' breakfast. Friendly staff Just one minor gripe, instant coffee was served with the breakfast. A cafetiere would have made the experience far nicer.

If your in Bridport then the Lord Nelson is the place to go for food. Went with my parents and we each had a different type of meal. Mom went for a ploughmans lunch which had ham, cheese, salad, beetroot, an excellent array of pickles and a nice warm bread roll. Dad had the cottage pie and veg off the specials board, which he rated as possibly the best cottage pie he has ever had! They also have an excellent range of meat burgers - kangaroo, bison, crocodile, pork & Apple, wild boar, venison, curried goat. I had the venison burger which came with chips and salad. The burger was perfectly cooked. The 3 meals came to just under £22, and were fantastic value for the quality you get. Also available are a nice range of Palmers ales. A must visit place for a meal if you visit Bridport!

The Lord Nelson would not have been our first choice based on exterior appearances. There is obviously renovations going on when we visited in May 2015. One of our party was in a rather large and heavy electric wheel chair and The Lord Nelson was the only place serving food in East Street Bridport that had level access suitable for the wheel chair (Shame on you Bridport) and so our choice was limited. That fact aside, we found the public bar small but immaculately clean and tidy. The two guys behind the bar were more than happy to move stools around to accommodate our friends wheel chair.Service was with a smile and when my first diet cola was a bit flat they changed it for a fresh one without quibble. There was some sort of function going on in another room and the chef was very busy and it was made plain at the outset that there would be a delay of about 40 minutes for our food order. This was no problem to us and we enjoyed our conversation. When the food arrived it was hot, high quality pub grub. Excellent well cooked burgers and chips.I suppose we sat there for about 2 hours soaking in the atmosphere, enjoying each others company and the food. Just what a good pub is for, and The Lord Nelson is a good pub.

We were enticed into this unassuming place by the unusual burger menu! We set ourselves a challenge to have something we hadn't tried before - kangaroo, venison, crocodile, bison. At first we were a little unsure as it looked like a bit like a clicky local but were pleasantly surprised. The food was lovely, service excellent and we had 6 meals for less than £30! This was topped off by a selection of cask ales for the men in our family group - splendid.

We stopped her for a lunch and wanted something without chips as we had eaten so many during our two week holiday. We sat out in the back courtyard which allowed our dog to come to. We all had lasagna which arrived piping hot with a side salad and two slices of garlic bread all for £4.95. It was home made and absolutely brilliant. Very good value for money and excellent staff. We will be back next year on our annual holiday.
