Was a stranger in Newark en route to a funeral, walked miles exploring the town and wanted a simple lunch that wouldn't wreck the diet, ahead of sandwiches and cakes later. Brilliant place, just right. Chicken in a bun with salad instead of chips, pot of tea, for I think £4.80. Window table with view across main market square on a cold sunny day. Friendly staff, crispy salad, piping hot chicken. Nothing posh, unpretentious, but doing a great job.

Set in the market square and up a staircase it would be easy to walk past but glad we spotted it, good value food and drink with pleasant staff and very quick service , would defiantly return again

This was the third place we had tried this day,so was about 1.45pm,it is very basic but friendly staff. Food is very cheap but plentiful and well cooked. Had two small breakfasts,a large piece of apple pie between two of us,with a large jug of custard and a pot of tea which held 3 cups each after filling with hot water, which came to £11. The only thing missing was some background music,so was like sitting in a library and everyone was whispering

This cafe is very basic (the walls are pink woodchip!) but the food is excellent and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. It is the only place I go in newark for a good breakfast, all cooked fresh and plenty of food even on the small breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble and when I visit with my little boy the staff always chat away to him and make him feel at home. Without a doubt the best place in Newark for a breakfast. Other places are pricey for what they offer and no where near as friendly and consistently well cooked.

Would not be visiting this cafe again at all. This was a very poor establishment some food was under cooked and cold obviously do not probe food while cooking. Found staff were rather rude and not very helpful with anything. General hygiene of the cafe was also poor using the same cloth for floors as the tables. Overall found this place generally awful.

First time I ordered a takeaway and my order was not accepted and declined as informed by Just Eat. Ordered well before 4pm but took until gone 6pm for them to decline.

Went to this restaurant a year ago and had an amazing meal, couldn't fault, so when me and four friends wanted to get together for a pre birthday meal, we all agreed on the Lion. Unfortunately not sure what has happened but my food was awful, the chips were oven chips that hadn't been cooked properly and were cold, the pulled pork and vegetables were lukewarm at best, the molten pepper jack sauce was so cold it had a skin on, not sure what happened to the aioli and the crispy onions, didn't seem to have any. I then had to sticky toffee pudding which was dry and rubbery, the only good thing was the toffee sauce, not impressed for £37.00. Also the restaurant was very cold.
