Very poor fish and chips, stale chips, overdone greasy batter, grey fish. This place is very variable but mostly no good nowadays. Won’t be going back

7.15pm on a Tuesday. We had hoped to eat in the restaurant but were told that doesn’t open at all in the evenings, just Tuesday-Sat lunchtime. The website needs updating to reflect this. We ordered regular cod and chips twice to take out so it couldn’t be more straightforward. We waited a while for it to be cooked, which is fine, but it had either been very overcooked or reheated as the batter was dark in colour and tough. Or is this how gluten free batter tastes? I removed it and just ate the fish which was okay. Chips were dry and didn’t taste fresh. Cost nearly £20 and was disappointing. Would not go back.

Visited on a Friday evening. Fish was cooked to order. It was very tasty, with very crispy batter and soft fish. The staff were very friendly.

I do find this chippy a bit hit and miss. Have had some seriously lovely food here, great fish and yummy chips only then to find our next visit is less than impressive. One week you get crunchy, bubbly batter that is still crisp when you get home but the following week you get limp and soggy batter that is more like a skin than a batter and which is not pleasant at all and the chips are suddenly a bit pale and not as tasty as though both potatoes and the batter recipe has changed. When it’s good it’s very good but when it’s not, you may not find it to your taste.

Just finished our cheeky takeaway. I’ve never left a review on here before, but we wanted to let the owner know that we are both agreed that this was pretty much the best chipper we’ve ever been to! We’ll come back if we’re down this way again.

Lovely people run this well liked establishment. They have another outlet in King St but they do not do Gluten FreeTakeaway. West Street is all gluten free, all types of fish and the chips.Due to Covid you have to order at the door and wait outside unfortunate if it is raining. I had the plaice and chips for my first order, large fish with crispy not gooey batter and piping hot freshly cooked chips. Each order is done separately so you dont get chips that have been cooked hours before and refried. My second time was the large cod, again in crispy batter and delicious. My wife on both occasions had the cod and she is Coeliac so has to have gluten free. Longs are the only establishment in Bridport that are Gluten Free that we know off.

Just had a takeaway from here, literally hardly any fish in my breaded plaice, probably worst fish and chips i've had for ages, if you are thinking of going here don't bother get them from the kiosks down in West bay we wish we had

You might pass by the simple entrance thinking Longs is just another boring chippy - don't. Have a look at the menu. Besides a great choice of fish there are many pizzas and, intriguingly, a selection of wraps. Try a wrap. Freshly prepared, served in a clever bespoke package that means it doesn't collapse when you bite into it! You get a huge portion for a mere £4.25, add a portion of chips for just .75p. Longs have a few reserved tables on the pavement under West Street's beautiful trees. The staff are faultless. Cheerful, friendly and efficient. We'll definitely return 😁

Came here due to good reviews on Google. I have to admit, when I opened the bag with my cod and chips I was a bit disappointed. The fish looked over done and the salt and vinegar had been put on the fish, not the chips. Well, I was wrong. The batter on the fish, while quite well done and very crisp, was actually delicious. Inside the fish was nicely cooked. I would have preferred the salt and vinegar on the chips but they were hot and very nicely cooked. Overall, a good portion of fish and chips and was perfect on a rainy Saturday evening!

My wife now has to have a gluten free diet so when we saw that Longs advertise gluten free fish we decided to try it.We were on holiday in nearby Burton Bradstock. My wife ordered at the door, for takeaway, and was told that all the fish is gluten free now and the chips can be.You have to stay outside with a number and then your order is brought out to you in a paper carrier.Lovely fresh fish and large portions and we took ours down to West Bay to eat them.Thoroughly recommend this establishment not only for the takeaway but also the friendly staff

Like one of the last reviewers said worst fish and chips ever had. I hope owner is aware how this business is not half as good as it once was. Visited 10/10/24 about 5pm. Girl who took the order was more interested in looking at phone and forgot to give me change. Then the fish and chips, which over the years were always good, were tasteless , batter overcooked and fish was mushy inside. We really should have complained but put half eaten in the bin. Will be trying somewhere else next year. Over the year we visit Lyme about 6 times but we will be trying different take a way when we come again.
