Lochter in Aberdeenshire

Third time visiting kids done some more of the activities, I highly recommend it, great fun ,lots of laughs and all if the staff were super nice. Definitely be back. Didn't get a chance to eat in the cafe, would recommend booking it if going, I heard it does lovely food but when we went it was fully booked.

We visited Lochter for Sunday Carvery Lunch with our family and grandchildren recently. There were many attractions for children and adults alike including a fishing pond. This place is well worth visiting for the activities and the food.

Been coming here for years and never reviewed, love this place. Been shooting, fishing, go karting. lunch with friends and lunch with family. Nice place will continue to come here.

We arranged a much overdue meet up with Friends and they suggested lunch at the Tocher. A great suggestion. The restaurant is part of a larger activity centre located on the outskirts of Oldmeldrum. This is a very busy restaurant and offers a good range of lunches, soup and sandwich combos. Prices were reasonable, service, although a bit on the slow side, was friendly and most importantly our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

We went here firstly for coffees in the afternoon which was very good scones were really good. And a few days later we went for lunch, which also was very good staff were friendly and helpful no complaints.

What a great place to get away from it all. Stuart was brilliant, great fun and a real credit to the Lochter team who are all very welcoming. We all had great fun and an excellent lunch. These folks know how to provide first class customer service which is becoming rare. Highly recommended.

From the minute we arrived we were looked after so well. Jean the restaurant supervisor welcomed us with teas and coffees and made sure we were looked after at lunchtime too. Stuart,our host was excellent . He put everyone at ease with his knowledge and cheery banter. He took time to explain everything as we went along.Nothing was too much trouble. We had a great day doing the blindfold driving and the clay pigeon shooting. We are planning to return and we will ask if Stuart can be our host again. All in all ,Lochter know how to look after people.

Met family here today for breakfast. Our second visit together & definately doesn't disappoint. Lovely friendly, helpful staff & the food delicious & portions generous. Thank you Lochter for our happy tummies again. See you soon!!!

Arrived at lochter today, the thing that struck me the most is something I could not have anticipated. It wasn’t the beautiful scenery, the heritage of the park, the barbecue it was simply the man Gordon. He single handedly made our trip that bit more special. His knowledge on shooting and his banter was second to none, I sincerely hope to see him again some day

Had a fantastic afternoon with Scott who looked after my son on the go karts, off road buggy track and the rifle shooting. Scott really made it special for the wee man, and I enjoyed the shooting too! A great atmosphere and fantastic customer experience throughout

Went for our breakfast yesterday both of us had the full cooked Scottish breakfast, which was freshly prepared and came with tea and toast. The breakfast was very tasty with the bacon being full of flavour, I personally don’t like tattie scones and think they should offer a hash brown as an alternative. But located do not allow swaps in there breakfast which is a shame considering other places, like Marshall’s farm shop will accommodate this request and they also do an exceptional breakfast. The staff were friendly and very attentive also covid practices were very good.

We were taken by friends to sample this famous Sunday Carvery and were not disappointed. The welcome was warm and friendly and the food was outstanding. The beef, gammon and turkey was so tender that it melted in your mouth. The accompanying vegetable selection was well cooked and extremely attractive. So, it was easy to forget the waistline for a while Lochter is part of a superb activity centre to compliment the excellent food. Obviously it was not the type of day to make use of the activities available but we intend to return in the Summer to enjoy it more fully.

We visited the centre as part of the Christmas stay at Meldrum House. Mixed family group from aged 9-69. We all had a BRILLIANT TIME! The team are fantastic - efficient, fun and friendly. Spencer (9) was made to feel so special and was delighted with his certificates <3 Thank you for making our Boxing Day a memorable one!

What a great day out our party of 5 pre-teen boys had. They did the digger experience with the gentleman (sorry never caught the man's name) who was absolutely fantastic with the boys, you are a credit to Lochter. You made their experience so much fun, and drove them on the buggy which they loved to the next activity, go carting. The lads there was great and so friendly, thank you for a great afternoon.

We visited Lochter last week for my birthday - we participated in 4 activities, karting, blindfold driving, digger driving and fishing. It was so much fun, the facilities are superb and the staff members are exceptional. We'd like to say an especially big thank you to Sandy who looked after us throughout and made each activity brilliant. The food is delicious and the restaurant team are very friendly and attentive. A warm welcome from start to finish and incredible fun throughout - would highly recommend.

Attended Lochter with colleagues for team meeting and we were very impressed with the catering. Lovely soup and sandwiches, great selection of home bakes and the scones were fresh out of the oven, light and delicious. Staff were all friendly, helpful and welcoming too.

3 of us did go karting here today. Not the best of days weather wise but that didn't stop us having a great time. Staff professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Would highly recommend trying one of the various activities they have on offer.

Arrived for lunch which was absolutely delicious, clearly fresh ingredients and gorgeous cakes. Very well set up with spaced out tables and lots of covid safety. Beautiful setting and friendly staff. We did the go karting which was great fun. First time for all of...

Had a superb day with the Lochter team for my mums 70th birthday. Sandy greeted us and talked through our health and safety plus got mum to change from golf to karting (she didn’t need much persuading just a bit of confidence which Sandy spotted!)...

The go-carts were a real hit with our teenage grandson. Very impressive set up, sadly not all open due to the Virus. But we’ll be back next time our grandson visits. Highly recommended!

The activities were really good and varied. The lounge waiting area is also really nice and they gave us complimentary teas and coffees while we waited. I've only taken off one star because one staff member wasn't great during the activity - a bit grumpy...

We were the very first guests after lockdown, we stopped just for a coffee, the stuff were very nice and very good scones!

The changes to the Sunday carvery for Covid-19 are fantastic. Spacious table setup, gel available, track and trace forms, etc all in place. The food was fantastic and portions are enormous. All meats and Yorkshire puddings are plated up and delivered to your table. Veg,...

Visited Lochter yesterday with family. The centre has various activities however we were only booked for Clay pigeons. We were met by friendly staff who explained the new social distancing rules. At the pigeon shoot itself we were kept under constant supervision & the gun...

Took our staff out for the day to Lochter was just great !! The girl Amy our activity leader was brilliant. Would definitely recommend!

We took two 10/11 year old boys as a birthday treat. They had a fantastic time doing karting, Segway and rifle shooting. They were taught/helped by Craig, who was very kind and added a lot to their enjoyment of the activities. Lochter was quiet, and the boys got much longer at each activity than we expected. Thank you

Family carvery on Sunday at Lochter. Glad we booked as it was very busy with a lovely atmosphere. Choice of three meats and lots of delicious vegetables / sauces to help yourself to. First time here for the carvery but not for food we have been a few times and it is always good but I would seriously recommend this. Head chef ' Bruce' was cheery and pleasant as he served us. They weren't skimpy with the meat. Beautiful quality food and a truly lovely Sunday. Staff are efficient, helpful and pleasant. Glad we only live 20 minutes away. Will return soon:)

had lunch for four midweek,food and service was great ,they were very busy but took time to make sure everything was ok.Staff were great with our two 91 year olds. best meat loaf i've had in years,was told the fish was excellent

Really good food with decent helpings and no silly presentation. Friendly welcome; good service; bright surroundings.

When we visited the parking was impossible for my friend as the nearest parking was on grass and she walks with crutches. We were told they were busy with a meeting although there were few people in the cafe. We have mentioned the lack of marked spaces for disabled in the past and nothing has changed. We would have liked a better choice of cakes but because of the meeting we were told the kitchen was busy and didn't have time to make them. It strikes me that the cafe clientele come last. We'll find somewhere else to meet in the future.

I came here with a group of young people the other week where we done several activities in a half-day package- Segwaying, Go-Karting, Digger Driving and Zorbing. We arrived early but were encouraged to start as soon as and were told were to go to begin segwaying. We got a trial at this around obstacles and then were timed which was good fun but we did feel pressured for time as the instructor was continuously getting spoken to via his walkie talkie to ask if we were nearly finished as the next group were arriving. We then got taken on the instructors golf kart to go-karting and that was really great. We were timed and the instructors gave us plenty of time on them as well as ensured there was plenty of space between each person around the track to avoid any potential accidents. The zorbing was also good fun, although the inflatable ball did not seem to move far on the lake despite maximum effort! By the end of our time at Lochter we were pretty tired and found the digger driving relatively boring. The aim was to fill up a bucket of water and to see who could do this in the quickest time.All in all we had a good day and activities are well managed but we did feel rushed.

I visited Lochter a couple of days ago for lunch with a friend who was treating me.We both opted for the home made steak pie or should it be named the steak and salt pie. The pie was served with vegetables which were bordering on being cold.The pie was the saltiest meal that I have ever tasted anywhere. As I was being treated it wasn’t really my place to complain although I did tell the waitress that the pie was salty. Her response was “ oh yes, someone else made that comment as well”.I wonder if that someone else will be returning to Lochter because we won’t.

Visited here on my own about 11.30 and sat a table. I was working on my laptop and was asked if I was having a business meeting, which I wasn’t I just wanted a coffee, and could I move as it was near lunchtime. There were nearly 60 seats empty and when I left 30 minutes later there were still over 40 free. Very abrupt lady dealt with me. Certainly will not be back. Cake was nothing special.

We went to Lochter today for a 1/2 day of activities. That is four of them. Unfortunately, the carting was full (that is a great one), we booked archery, blindfolded 4x4 driving, Segway and air rifle shooting. On the day, the latter was replaced by digger driving. We had great fun for at least 3 hours, although the archery was a bit poor. Great guide and attitude from the staff. Finished off with a good lunch. Great time, but not cheap.

As soon as you walk in the door, you feel welcome here. The service is excellent, as is the food. Would highly recommend to anyone who appreciates good food with very friendly service. We will definitely be returning again and again.

Large lady with very dirty t-shirt barked at us to take Table 9, had to find nother chair for table. Other waitress, we only saw her posterior for 10-15 minutes while she bent over a table a few feet from us chatting to her friends. Walked out.

Lovely place to come have a catch up with friends and food is fantastic too! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice lunch or carvery!

I visited with my 11-year-old son and we tried Segway and go-karting coating ~£100.

We visited Lochter with family and friends to find an outstanding activities centre. There were Go Karts, Zip Lines and everything teenagers want to let off steam. The entire staff were extremely helpful and eager to please. .For the less energetic there is a lovely restaurant serving excellent food, teas coffee and drinks for the thirsty. The mini mince pies were simply out of this world. This may have been our first visit to Lochter but it certainly will not be our last.

Always a pleasent place to spend some time. Food good but service can be very slow if busy. Best to reserve a table if you can.. Lots of fun activities to do for all ages, fishing ponds are very pretty on a sunny day.

We had the Segway challenge which was really fun and we also enjoyed shooting clay pigeons. Great fun but the price for two people was extremely expensive.probably better to go in a group

First time visit to Lochter for some lunch and not disapppinted. The Activity Centre looks like a lot of fun as well. The restaurant is light, spacious and airy. The staff are cheery, friendly and helpful

Went there yesterday as a family group of 8 six adults and two kids. We all had the carvery. To be honest I’m not much into carvery’s however I did enjoy the carvery at lochter. Choice of three meats and then help yourself this is the part which can often be sitting for long periods and get cold . I did enjoy the food and would return again.

A lovely little spot if you like to venture a bit further out for something different. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I bet the other food Thats on offer tastes just as good 😁

We all had Cavery here yesterday, beautiful food and very fresh and tasty, we will return and would recommend.

We both had a main course from the normal menu and were certainly not disappointed. I had the macaroni cheese which was very creamy and beautifully cooked. It came with chips and a lovely salad. Wife had the chicken strips and was totally bowled over. Once again beautifully cooked. 4 lovely pieces of very tasty chicken also accompanied with chips and another tasty salad. To be honest not every visit is as good but today could not be faulted. Beautiful food at a reasonable price and lovely smiling service.

What a great day we had at the go-karting at Lochter. The track is brilliant and the staff were firm but fair. Lots of good safety advice. We got about 15/16 laps for our £40.00 which I personally thought was good value. However their timekeeping is suspect.....How could I have been 5th????? lol. Highly recommend.

Visited today as part of my son’s 12th birthday celebration and loved it. We went as a family (mum, dad and 12 year old boy) as first timers to Lochter and was very impressed with everything. The staff are very welcoming, knowledgeable and safety was important on all activities (we did karting, 4x4 blindfold driving, digger challenge and target shooting).

Had a great day with friends, we did the go karting, clay pigeon shooting, archery and 4x4 blind folded, we had coffees and bacon rolls on arrival and a great bbq for lunch. Staff were helpful and were really up for a laugh!

As a beginner to fly fishing myself and one of my friends visited recently and although we didn’t catch any fish we both enjoyed are trip. When I seemed to be struggling with my casting technique help was on hand by there friendly staff and it’s a really nice venue.

Visited yesterday as a group of 10 hens. Wanted to surprise the gals with something unusual/different and Lochter provided just that! Lorna in the restaurant gave us a warm welcome and then once we sat down at our table Sandy came over to provide the orientation; he is engaging and personable and we were excited to get started! We tried the blindfold 4x4 driving, then the zorbing on water. Both activities were a great laugh and the instructors were all lovely. The building and grounds are very nicely maintained and there is an air of great organisation about the place. The office team had also been a great help in the planning of the day itself, a big thank you to Michaela and everyone else for that.

Went there for lunch today with two friends. Waited ages for the food which was greasy and unappetising. Panini with cheese had to be sent back as it was smelly, and uneatable.

Absolutely brilliant morning from 9am until 1.30pm. Staff are amazing well looked after guiding all the way encouraging good friendly riverly. Husband had an amazing 60th birthday. Food at lunch time was also amazing a very high standard well worth the mone.

Have visited here on a number of occasions. Yesterday six of us visited in the afternoon. The service was excellent the young staff could not have been more helpful. Very relaxing place to eat an informal lunch and excellent value for money.

As part of my work combatting social isolation in families impacted by dementia I have, on two occasions taken groups of around 12 to the Lochter for lunch. We were able to pre-order and everything was ready for us when we arrived. The staff and the food were excellent and everyone had a great time. All the staff were very accommodating, friendly and warm and I would recommend this place to anyone.

Came here on Sunday lunchtime, and our party of 9 all had the carvery. Wow it was delicious and the chef was very generous in our portions! Choice of ham, turkey and lamb which was cooked to perfection. Huge choice of lovely roasters, veg, gravy and sauces.

Eaten here several times and found the food well priced, good sized portions, salad, coleslaw and couscous served with some meals. Nice little extras. Specials board an added bonus. Staff pleasant and service swift. Will be on my regular list for lunch when in the area.

Lochter is a great place for lunch. Don’t be put off if the car park looks full as it’s often just people driving there to do activities, so not all the cars are for the restaurant area.

We visited yesterday 14/10/17 at 11.25 was told it was too late for breakfast and too early for lunch. Two people came after us and got bacon rolls. Won't be having a return visit.

So for my dads birthday we opted for the half day package for £80pp and were told this would be a 3.5 hrs package with each activity approx 45 mins each which seemed a reasonable deal.

The setting is lovely and although the main theme is the activity centre they are open for lunches and" fly cups". Their home baking is excellent and their scones are first class. Their lunch menu is limited but the food is always excellent. They also cater for events and they cater for large numbers very well. Again the food is always piping hot and lovely and the staff are efficient and friendly.

Water is full of algae, only part worth fishing was the furthest away pond which was mobbed. Didnt have a good day other than bacon anď egg rolls from the cafe. Be warned very noisy with shotguns going off, go carts crowds of people on an outing. Not your usual fishing trip.

I can't rate this place highly enough, we have visited many many times and most recently we were back again.

I have dined here on several occasions and the food is to a very good standard, there is a good choice and the great , they do a good selection throughout the day , in fact their sausage bap they do is by far the best i have ever had . Staff are very friendly. The restaurant has a nice rural backdrop ,generally good place to eat

Acabo de volver de otro asador fabulosa en Lochter. Vinimos aquí para el día de la madre, y era tan buena que decidimos volver para el Día del padre, y no me decepcionó. Buena comida a un precio estupendo.

Visitamos hoy y fue cálidamente recibido por el personal del mostrador. Disfrutamos de una buena taza de café y pastel en un entorno cómodo con el placer añadido de ver en el nido de águilas pescadoras en cerca de pantalla junto a nuestros asientos. Una perfecta media hora.

We came here for Mother's Day and had the carvery. It was fab! There were 3 meats to choose from and also a vegetarian option. Lots of 'trimmings' and the veggies were delicious too. All the 'Mums' got some white chocolate fudge which was a nice touch. Will definitely be back again.

Just a big thank you for making our daughters wedding really special.. Booked Lochters for the evening celebration and couldn't be happier with the service or the location. Friendly staff really helped too

Stopped primarily because we saw it listed as a visitor centre but it wasn't what we imagined a traditional centre to be. Stopped for drinks and a snack. Staff were smiley and attentive. The drinks were ok but nothing special. My son really enjoyed his carrot cake though. It's clearly a very popular place as although we got a table very easily, within 15 minutes most tables were full with 3 having reserved signs on them.

Absolutely fantastic day out for our sons 21st birthday. On arrival, we were greeted by a very friendly warm welcome. We had arranged tea/coffee and bacon rolls and everything was lovely. We had booked the go karts, blind fold driving, rifle shooting and segway. The staff are all very knowledgeable and are very friendly. We had a fantastic experience from start to finish and would thoroughly recommend this for a day out with a difference. Big thanks to all staff and management for an exceptional experience. We will be back!

Mixed approach and service, need to define customer base, trying t cater for all gets untidy and standards slip. Food quality is OK but only OK. Need better range of drinks, wine choice poor

Good food and service. My American friends really enjoyed the whole experience. We had a good look around and the activities on offer are excellent including archery. My American friends are returning in July and we will definately be returning then.

Visited with my son today for lunch. This is a regular for us as we always have a lovely lunch. Today we were served by Megan , a very friendly and polite girl. The tuna baked potato was accompanied by tasty side salads of cold couscous , coleslaw and mixed pepper and lettuce. The ham and cheese panini also had a side salad. Service was excellent and meal was good value for money. Lochter's is in a great setting , even better when the sun shines . A great activity centre which hosts many events.

Had a really great day here starting with a lovely welcome by Sandy and Robert and then a really well organised activity afternoon. Lots to choose from and we had a blast on the go karts and the digger driving was hilarious fun! Amy looked after us well and it was fab to meet little Major ❤️❤️. Definitely recommend a day out here.

My colleagues and I enjoyed the most excellent hospitality at our company management away day tat Lochter Activity Centre, just outside Oldmeldrum.It was a great choice venue for our management to undergo some training. Fantastic location, facilities, service and the food was the best quality plentiful and really fine.Thank you Lochter for looking after us so well and giving our team a fantastic day away day.Would return again for sure.10 out of 10. Loved our activities here, we did diggers, archery, clay pigeon shooting and go carting. All the staff really friendly and activities really fun.

Lochter activity centre just outside Oldmeldrum. 7 of us, including the groom had an afternoon out the day before the wedding. Enjoyed the Go Karting, Segway and Clay Pigeon shooting experience. Well looked after by all the staff with special thanks to Ron Reid. Lots of other things to do. Osprey in the air but the young on the nest at Lochter had flown but the camera still focused on the nest ( just in case ) There is an excellent coffee shop and restaurant but we were treated to a BBQ with salads. A great day.

Wad here for s business meeting which was thru the back . The service was terrific, friendly, efficient and very quick . The soup and Sandwichs were plentiful and very nice with a wide varied of choice . Didn't scrimp on anything as we were all well fed . It was the perfect place for a meeting .

Visited for lunch. The service was first class and the meal arrived quite quickly. Both meals were delicious and with generous portions. The cctv of the Ospreys nest is just great and lovely to watch. A very reasonable price for 2 lovely meals and we will certainly be back. It is probably a good idea to book for lunch as it gets very busy.

We had been visiting the distillery in Oldmeldrum and called in here for lunch.It is a nice place but gets very noisy and loud when busy. We were greeted by a friendly young waitress who took our orders, then we waited,and waited.....eventually our food arrived after a 25minute wait. We had a steakburger, a panini and vegetarian quiche. All ok, but the quiche was a bit bland.Our waitress explained that the kitchen was busy, but people who had come in after us were served and eating before we got ours. The staff seem to know most people who come in, but spend a lot of time chatting.

I , and a group of friends spent half a day at Locter doing 4 activities of our choice followed by a BBQ and a beer . It was a great day out , the staff were great and very helpful all added out to the whole experience , we would highly recommend Lochter to anyone , in fact we enjoyed it all so much we have decided to make it an annual thing !!!!

What a great place! My daughters hen party was arranged for here &amp; loved every minute of it. Started off with a glass of prosecco &amp; wee food buffet, all very tasty &amp; so much there was heaps left. Then onto the go karting which was amazing, blindfolded 4x4 driving which was hilarious, archery next which was quite hard to perfect then water zorbing. Staff were great, Amy has the patience of a saint....£95 each for all of that &amp; worth every penny. We're already speaking about going back with our other halves &amp; having a girl v boy day. Such good fun &amp; haven't laughed so much in ages. Thank you Amy for putting up with us, it was an absolute blast!

An afternoon tea with Ospreys. A little walk by the water and an osprey on its nest. then inside for coffee , tea and cakes while looking at the osprey on its nest on a wide screen cam.

I have been to Lochters a few times and have always been happy with the service and food but on this occasion I was very disappointed. The restaurant didn't seem overly busy but it took the waitress quite a while to come over to serve us. The food at the Carvery didn't look as appetising as previous visits either. Also, despite there being plenty of staff our waitress never came over at any point to clear away our plates well after we had finished eating and we were never asked if we would like a dessert or coffee at all. We all decided not to bother and leave.

took part in 2016 mud madness at Lochter fantastic event even better than last year more obstacles and even more mud to crawl through. The weather was much better this year and the lochter team did a great job.food in the rear buffet area was reasonably priced and just what we needed. Only suggestion would be to have some form of outdoor shower to clean off after the event

My friend and I often go to lochter for our lunch. Best to book for a Sunday as they have a very popular carvery that day. We always have soup and there is a good choice available. The staff always make time to chat regardless of how busy they are. We always feel welcome. Great value too. I have said yes to TV, but it's really real time video of the ospreys when they are there....the camera looks right into the nest! Just great. Advertising footage at other times!

Lovely sunny day lunch at the Lochter Activity Centre with interesting pictures from the Osprey web cam to watch while having lunch.We received a friendly welcome and the daily specials menu was highlighted when we went in, the menu is varied and interesting and there is a cabinet full of interesting looking tray bakes to have with coffee.Between the three of us, we sampled the Cullen Skink, a deliciously creamy version with chunks of potato &amp; fish, pitta bread fingers with humuus, olive &amp; sun-dried tomato salad and a towering vegetable burger, served with potato wedges &amp; salad.The vegetable burger was a goats cheese fritter, topped with char grilled vegetables, the fritter itself was a little greasy, but the vegetables were fine.Coffee was good and the desserts of lemon meringue pie and warm chocolate brownie were fabulously indulgent and nicely presented.Definitely a place to visit again.

Visited today for the first time for lunch. Staff very friendly and welcoming. An extensive menu at reasonable prices. I had the macaroni cheese and wife had the burger. Quickly served and just delicious. A great idea in the restaurant is a webcam of a nesting osprey in the grounds. Would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Superb!!
