I have been racing Karts and Cars since 1991 and was looking for a kart track that actually lets you have a feel of the actual sport. I’m leaving this review because we had the most enjoyable authentic karting experience that it’s possible to get without having your own kart. I came here with my 11 year old son, he’s done some karting before but not in the wet. It was raining heavily, and the karts are on slick tyres = fun! This is the exact experience that trains young person. We have a briefing, get wet suits on and get in (contrary to another reviewer I just read, NO karting EVER requires a damn fireproof racesuit, he knows nothing of the sport). 45 minutes of skidding and power sliding around, my son spinning out a lot but loving it and learning lots, with the supervisor on the quad to get him back on track. A shame there’s no lap timing, other than a stopwatch, but without a doubt this is the place you come to have a thrill, a great track, fast karts, not over sanitised and boring, unlike the indoor electric karts which are slow, have traction control and are spreading like a virus into the sport of karting.

We originally went to go bait fishing but we were informed by the keeper that due to the hot weather recently the fish weren't feeding and he didn't want us to waste our money. Disappointing but his honesty was much appreciated. To make it up the the rest of the family they went gokarting. They all came away with smiles on their faces. A bit pricey but it was a holiday treat for them.

we called in on our way north, we have followed the activities of the ospreys, that breed here thanks to the owners who put up a nest pole for Thema coup[le of years ago the male failed to return, fortunately the female found a new partner the year after. The lady we met knowing our interest gave us a table next to one of the screens, and during our lunch the female stood up to revel two lovely chicks, it was such a joy to see. MORE AT TripAdvisor

So, I took my kids to Lochter to go karting for my sons 10th birthday, and before we had even arrived it was a complete shambles. They had contacted us on two occasions to change our start-time, once on the very morning of the activity, causing us to change plans and rush down (45min journey) to make our session. Only to find, after arriving when we were asked, that they'd started the session without us anyway. On arrival, we were met by a manager of some sort, who happily took my money then swiftly made himself scarce, leaving us to wander of in the general direction he had pointed. Hoping to find someone who actually seemed like they knew what was going on. Upon reaching the track, we stood around for 5-10 minutes before we were noticed by a rather confused looking teenage 'marshal' who told me to "go over there and sign that" before adding he'd "get to us in a minute". After sitting around for another 5mins, I explained the flags and rules to my children, as it was by now apparent there would be NO SAFETY BRIEFING (which there wasn't), then we were given nothing but a stinky balaclava and a cheap helmet (NO FIREPROOF RACESUITS, not even cheap overalls) before being shown to the absolute piles of junk they called 'karts' and asked to strap ourselves in. When my 10-year-old son asked for help he was curtly asked "can you not work a seat belt?" There were NO ROLL-BARS as advertised, and NO SAFETY-HARNESSES either. Just a cheap seat belt bolted on. My daughter had to be moved kart before they had even been started as her seatbelt was broken and DIDN'T WORK. When the karts were finally started, mine instantly cut out at low rpm. Twice. The 'marshal' just said "it'll be fine" and sent me on my way. Then I saw the track. A warped concrete and tarmac patchwork, all full of potholes with grass growing through the cracks and badly placed crumbling tyre-walls. Easily the worst kart track I've ever seen. As I rounded the track, I noticed lots of kids from the previous session stuck on the side with there hands up, waiting for help, and was astounded to discover that on a 1.2km track they had just TWO MARSHALS. I passed most of these kids again on my second lap. When I finally found another racer still on the track, I slowed down to wait for a safe place to pass and as I did, my kart cut out. I pulled into the side as best I could and as I was waiting for help, my son slowly trundled by in a kart that sounded like a lawnmower with a stone stuck in it. After trying, and failing to get the 'marshal's' attention, I just pulled the rip-cord myself and restarted. This however proved pointless as everyone was instantly red-flagged and the race was stopped. When I got out my kart I rushed to the marshal to see what had happened (red flags usually mean everyone has to stop where they are and wait for instructions, usually because of a crash) but was told "it's just the end of the session. We'd been on the track for 10 minutes! I protested and told the marshal that we'd only been out for 10 minutes, he hesitated then told us he'd put us back out. After a few minutes we were shown to three new karts and rushed off. They didn't even adjust the seats or pedals for the kids. My new kart sounded terrible and performed and handled completely differently, but at least this one didn't cut-out. My sons however, was even worse than his last one. It didn't even make it a single lap before he had to take it in and ask for another one. When, on his third attempt, he finally got a kart that worked, he understandably went off and required assistance. I waved as I passed him to make sure he was okay, but as I hit the final straight I was shocked to find the marshals barrelling towards me in a golf-kart (Down the main straight!!) and had to swerve to avoid them. All I could think was, 'well at least they're going to help him'. I was wrong. The race was red-flagged and that was it. My son, who's birthday it was, didn't get A SINGLE LAP in the second session. Which in itself probably lasted less than ten minutes. NO LAP-TIMES WERE GIVEN, and we were shuffled off to the carpark without so much as a good-bye. After returning to the car-park, I left my tearful son in the car and went in to demand an explanation and after seeing three different people and hearing a plethora of excuses, we were finally told that we could "wait for an hour or so whilst the boys had their lunch" then get another session. The ONLY good things I can say about this company and my families experience that day is when I demanded my money back it was swiftly given (and that the girl who was our first point of contact on both occasions was very polite and professional). Although I think the swift return had more to do with them keeping up appearances then anything else, as I was forced to have this conversation in the middle of their restaurant. In summary, the organisation of the event was a shambles, the 'marshals' were wholly unprofessional and clearly had no idea what they were doing, the karts were junk and definitely NOT AS ADVERTISED (no roll-bars, no safety-harnesses), the track was a cracked, pot-holed mess and the actual time spent on the track was somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes. And all for the bargain price of £130!!! DONT GO KARTING HERE. The whole experience can be summed up by two words, CHEAP and DANGEROUS.

We popped in for lunch. Service was a little relaxed but good. The food was good not the best macaroni I've had, couldn't fault it. the macaroni came with chips and salad decent portion size. The prices were reasonable in comparison to other cafes. Didn't get a chance to try the banana split, I'll be going back to give that a try. I'd say this if a safe bet for lunch if your in the area but it does get busy, so you may have to book.

We arranged a much overdue meet up with Friends and they suggested lunch at the Tocher. A great suggestion. The restaurant is part of a larger activity centre located on the outskirts of Oldmeldrum. This is a very busy restaurant and offers a good range of lunches, soup and sandwich combos. Prices were reasonable, service, although a bit on the slow side, was friendly and most importantly our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

Went for our breakfast yesterday both of us had the full cooked Scottish breakfast, which was freshly prepared and came with tea and toast. The breakfast was very tasty with the bacon being full of flavour, I personally don’t like tattie scones and think they should offer a hash brown as an alternative. But located do not allow swaps in there breakfast which is a shame considering other places, like Marshall’s farm shop will accommodate this request and they also do an exceptional breakfast. The staff were friendly and very attentive also covid practices were very good.

The beef, gammon and turkey was so tender that it melted in your mouth. The accompanying vegetable selection was well cooked and extremely attractive. So, it was easy to forget the waistline for a while Lochter is part of a superb activity centre to compliment the excellent food. I came here with a group of young people the other week where we done several activities in a half-day package- Segwaying, Go-Karting, Digger Driving and Zorbing. We arrived early but were encouraged to start as soon as and were told were to go to begin segwaying. We got a trial at this around obstacles and then were timed which was good fun but we did feel pressured for time as the instructor was continuously getting spoken to via his walkie talkie to ask if we were nearly finished as the next group were arriving. We then got taken on the instructors golf kart to go-karting and that was really great. We were timed and the instructors gave us plenty of time on them as well as ensured there was plenty of space between each person around the track to avoid any potential accidents. The zorbing was also good fun, although the inflatable ball did not seem to move far on the lake despite maximum effort! By the end of our time at Lochter we were pretty tired and found the digger driving relatively boring. The aim was to fill up a bucket of water and to see who could do this in the quickest time. All in all we had a good day and activities are well managed but we did feel rushed.

Went there for lunch today with two friends. Waited ages for the food which was greasy and unappetising. Panini with cheese had to be sent back as it was smelly, and uneatable.

As part of my work combatting social isolation in families impacted by dementia I have, on two occasions taken groups of around 12 to the Lochter for lunch. We were able to pre-order and everything was ready for us when we arrived. The staff and the food were excellent and everyone had a great time. All the staff were very accommodating, friendly and warm and I would recommend this place to anyone.

Lochter is a great place for lunch. Don’t be put off if the car park looks full as it’s often just people driving there to do activities, so not all the cars are for the restaurant area.

The setting is lovely and although the main theme is the activity centre they are open for lunches and" fly cups". Their home baking is excellent and their scones are first class. Their lunch menu is limited but the food is always excellent. They also cater for events and they cater for large numbers very well. Again the food is always piping hot and lovely and the staff are efficient and friendly.

Stopped primarily because we saw it listed as a visitor centre but it wasn't what we imagined a traditional centre to be. Stopped for drinks and a snack. Staff were smiley and attentive. The drinks were ok but nothing special. My son really enjoyed his carrot cake though. It's clearly a very popular place as although we got a table very easily, within 15 minutes most tables were full with 3 having reserved signs on them.

The tuna baked potato was accompanied by tasty side salads of cold couscous , coleslaw and mixed pepper and lettuce. The ham and cheese panini also had a side salad. Service was excellent and meal was good value for money. Lochter's is in a great setting , even better when the sun shines . A great activity centre which hosts many events.

Lochter activity centre just outside Oldmeldrum. 7 of us, including the groom had an afternoon out the day before the wedding. Enjoyed the Go Karting, Segway and Clay Pigeon shooting experience. Well looked after by all the staff with special thanks to Ron Reid. Lots of other things to do. Osprey in the air but the young on the nest at Lochter had flown but the camera still focused on the nest ( just in case ) There is an excellent coffee shop and restaurant but we were treated to a BBQ with salads. A great day.

We had been visiting the distillery in Oldmeldrum and called in here for lunch. It is a nice place but gets very noisy and loud when busy. We were greeted by a friendly young waitress who took our orders, then we waited, and waited.....eventually our food arrived after a 25minute wait. We had a steakburger, a panini and vegetarian quiche. All ok, but the quiche was a bit bland. Our waitress explained that the kitchen was busy, but people who had come in after us were served and eating before we got ours. The staff seem to know most people who come in, but spend a lot of time chatting.

Started off with a glass of prosecco & wee food buffet, all very tasty & so much there was heaps left. Then onto the go karting which was amazing, blindfolded 4x4 driving which was hilarious, archery next which was quite hard to perfect then water zorbing. Staff were great, Amy has the patience of a saint....£95 each for all of that & worth every penny. We're already speaking about going back with our other halves & having a girl v boy day. Such good fun & haven't laughed so much in ages. Thank you Amy for putting up with us, it was an absolute blast!

So pleased this place was open during the quiet season. I've never passed without stopping off some some food. The staff are lovely and on my visit before this one, I was on the motorbike and I was experiencing the British summer.....sheltering from the torrential rain the time passed by quickly thanks to a friendly fella manning the gift shop and some nice food. This time I just made it in time for a full breakfast - very welcome after being blinded by low level morning sun all the way from Inverness then dodging the ice in minus 6 degrees C once I hit the ski roads. Bloody marvellous! proper sausage, the black pudding was really tasty and everything was hot. I managed to bag an extra fried egg after many apologies from the lady serving me that the chef had managed to burst my yolk twice so they put both on as an a sorry. I ordered a black coffee which was one of those espresso machine jobbies I really hate for their harshness but this was pretty god. I didn't realise they did cafetieres until the very well spoken gent on a nearby table asked for one! Next time then. Love this place, makes the dreadful quality of the roads seem worth it...in such a remote area it's a gem and the prices are good, too!

This place is a good bit out of the way in the Royal Deeside area, but it’s well worth seeking out for a tasty breakfast or lunch. We stopped off on a Sunday lunchtime. As usual, it was busy. But thankfully, having been here several times, we knew to book. Saw some disappointed looking people who hadn’t. The food here is consistently great. The firm favourite for us, is there soup and panini combo. A true bargain for just under a tenner. What’s so great about it, is that the soups of the day frequently change. On this day, I had the carrot and coconut, my wife had the tomato and basil. Both were fabulous. Bursting with flavour, as we have come to expect. My panini with tomato, pesto, and mozzarella, was delicious. My wife’s roasted vegetable and hummus one, just as tasty. The service here is excellent. The ideal balance of friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. It’s a fairly compact place, with space on the ground and balcony levels, as well as decent sized outdoors area, for summer days, and people with dogs. This is a firm favourite for people in the know. But be sure to book in advance.
