Loch Fyne Fish Bar in Argyll & Bute

There's nothing 'fyne' about this place. No taste to the fish, nor the chips. All very greasy. Even the tartar sauce, which comes in a sachet, doesn't taste of anything. So disappointed. Especially when you realise the restaurant next door 'Red Herring' are doing a better trade of take out fish & chips, if we come back, we'll definitely try there. Never again Loch Fyne Fish Bar, never again.

Was here on the 18th of August between 5pm to 9pm and it wasn't opened, not sure if its closed down or not, didn't have any notices.

The fish and chip supper is generous in size, freshly cooked and excellent value. The haggis supper is even better! The staff are super, very friendly and helpful.

Sad to say, half the chips weren’t cooked through and the batter on the sausage was soft.

The greatest fish and chips I've ever eaten. The value for lobster and chips was too good to pass up, so we bought food food to go and ate at the sea front. Very fresh fish and very nice wedge sized chips. The homemade tart sauce was excellent. Definitely recommended.

Definitely the worst fish I have ever eaten. The fish itself was absolutely tasteless and tainted by the vile tasting oil it was cooked in. There is no excuse for trying to save on quality when customers will never return.

Dirty looking but was willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Refused to cut up the fish in strips before battering it for my 4 yr old. Told me they didn't own a knife 😂 Terrible service.

Looked shut down but turns out it was open so we went in. Took one look at the place and it was obvious that it hadn't been cleaned for like 10 years. They probably refry the fish with the grease off the wall 🥴. Prices also seemed too good to be true so walked back out. It's a real contrast to the area, Tarbert is beautiful

First and last time visit. Very poor quality. If it’s open, a far better option would be to walk around the marina to the Silver Ladies Seafood Shack

We've been before and had good food here back in 2021. This time around I waited 45 minutes after being told a 10 minute wait on Friday evening. Batter was undercooked unfortunately too when we did get our food.

Vile fish supper. All I could taste was oil which didn't seem all that fresh. The young lad serving was pleasant enough but I'd rather have no conversation and decent food. Avoid.

Sadly we echo the previous comments which we sadly did not review before visiting. These were the worst fish and chips we have had, ever, and would not recommend this establishment in its present form.

Never had batter like this in my life....the concept of ' lightly battered' clearly went over the owners head. It was more like animal skin- just awful. The worst battered I've ever experienced and I'm a Cornish girl. The fish, albeit wafer thin, was tasty & fresh but the forks were pathetic. Had to go all ' Bronze Age' and use hands. Overall...sorry....its a no from me.

Food is OK but if they tell you it will be ready in 5 mins expect to wait around 30 mins. Try and avoid when Tarbert is mega busy and the weather is good as this place cannot cope.

Poor quality fish supper, the batter on the fish was almost white, and tasted as if it had been cooked in dirty oil. The chips I suspect were frozen, but were just passable. Won't be going back.

I'll start by saying the gentleman who served us was very friendly. That's where the good news ends. Single sausage ......... Dripping with grease which squirted out when my daughter bit into it and undercooked. Put it in bin immediately. Chips ....... Soft, soggy and dripping with grease. Put in bin immediately. Donner kebab ........ Meat heated up in microwave, Pitts bread in microwave, no sauce or salad option. Rubbery and disgusting. Put in bin immediately. Can quite honestly say that this is the worst fish & chip shop I've ever visited. Like .... Ever!!!! To call it "slopps" would be an insult to slopps. £15 in the bin. Was my first visit and will definitely be my last. Would not recommend anyone eats food from here.

Great chips fresh from the fryer!

2 breaded fish suppers, had a wee wait but worth it, nice fish and chips not greasy at all. Only one person serving and cooking but he was very pleasant and chatted to all the customers that were waiting. Not sure re all these negative reviews one of the nicest fish suppers I’ve had.

Limited options in the locality drove us here. Unfortunately these were some of the worst fish & chips we’ve ever had. We thought they would be lovely considering the area but much of the fish batter was rock hard, the chips were extremely salty and there wasn’t much to it.

Good selection of food available, but the fish suppers are great if you're just after that. Friendly service and good quality all round, just beware they don't accept card payment (ATMs nearby..).

Hot and greasy delicious fish and chips eaten looking over the harbour. Who could ask for anything else.

Usually runs out of fish / mushy peas etc if you're there later in the afternoon . Victim of its own success I guess. It's always busy. They only take cash though which is a pain in the backside at times. Seagulls love the food too, I noticed 😂 👍

Nice wee fish and chip shop. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Food was lovely and freshly prepared within a short wait time. Customer service was good and our needs were met. Atmosphere of the interior of the building could do with some upkeep.

Don't trust any of the reviews here. Ask a random local. None of them eat here. The only people who eat here are unsuspecting visitors, boaties and seagulls.

No mushy peas, cash only and some undercooked, pale and disappointing fish and chips when they did arrive after the ten minute wait. Best avoided.

Fish was fine, chips could be better, whole place needs an overhaul, clean etc. The wife's scampi batter was funny tasting, likely to be the oil that was used.

The individual serving the food was particularly rude to my wife, owing to a comment I made about the establishment only accepting cash payment.

Dirty shop. Unfriendly staff. Food disgusting Batter oily. Chips bland and tasted odd. Don’t go.

If it takes a bit of time to get your order, it's because everything is cooked fresh! There is no pile of fried fish ready to parcel up. Perfect fish supper, and plenty of space to wait inside during a sudden shower.

Used to be good. Tonight's was rubbish. Chips too thin. Half them inedible because they were like shrapnel. Sad

Worst fish and chips I've ever had so over cooked

I was told on asking about whether they could offer anything gluten free that they had a separate frier and could make uncontaminated chips. Whilst my friends waited 30 mins for a usual fish supper I noticed that my chips had big chunks of crispy batter in the bottom of the box. When I raised the issue with staff they just casually said it had been a mistake!! So do not trust them to know what they're doing!! I spent a miserable evening on our boat unwell . People have no idea how it affects us coeliacs

Good all round with a small seating area. Fish and chips were good quality.

It was OK I guess. The chips weren't the greatest, tasted a bit "cardboardy" if I'm being honest, the fish was good but I've had alot better from smaller chip shops. Wasnt really good value for money either, you didn't really get alot of chips. Had to wait 20 minutes, others had phoned orders in and went to front of queue but the food they ordered hadn't been pre- prepared, it was done as they came in, it was more like if you phoned up you got to jump the queue. The man behind the counter was very friendly and polite but he could have done with some help. The place itself seemed a little past its hey day and the menu was limited. Over all I'd say average to just below for a chippy 😔

Slow. Appeared overwhelmed by orders and was told to sit and wait. Each tine I asked we were “just waiting for chips”. When they arrived it was small portion maybe reheated

Not a great chippy, once I ordered and waited 30mins I then realised why I didn't come back before now, sausage supper wasn't hot, pizza supper wasn't nice either, chip are OK, the shop could do with more ventilation as I was stinking of cooking oil by the time I left, best to stop at lochgilphead for a chippy or go into cafe cadora, won't be back

Chicken pakora was still frozen in the middle. And the fish chips and batter were bland and tasteless would not return

My fish was like a dried up tampon. It was whatever he caught on the way to work and now my mouth is burning. If I’m dead before this gets posted I’ve written a possible cause of death note in my sock. And my bike was stolen outside the shop.

Been twice now. Both times. The food has been awesome. Cooked to order so took around ten minutes. Well worth the wait. Well done

Awful fish and chips. Had better frozen fish from Aldi. Should have been first class due to location of property. First impression was the miserable staff. Should have walked out. Ended up binning the food and going elsewhere.

Possibly the worse fish and chips i've ever had. Double fish supper, two skinny bits of fish that obviously were not fresh and awful batter (never had batter like it) Chips just about edible but next time i'll go somewhere else. Not the cleanest of places either!

Great wee chippy. We had fish and chips. Fish batter wish really good, light and crispy. The fish was really nice and chips really good.

Terrible (frozen?) fish cooked in over-thick batter in dirty oil, bland chips, and a couple of dodgy burgers. How is it possible to get it so wrong in such a lovely spot right on the harbour? Where, you know, lovely fish are landed every day? No idea, but one to avoid.

The place is dirty, needs a good clean Apart from the fish and chips everything else comes out of the freezer. Fish was OK but very oily, I asked for fish supper and mushy peas, I was served the fish supper then the server started to open a tin of mushy peas, should have been opened when I placed the order

Got a sausage supper sausage was tasteless could only taste the batter ended up being binned the chips were better though

Disappointed…. Has there been a change of ownership? We’ve used this chilly a number of times albeit pre covid but it’s always been spot on and our go to in the area. We had time to stop again when we were passing through and we’ll the difference is astronomical from 5 star to no star… Ordered a special double fish and a fish supper…. 15minuetes later they asked what we we’re waiting for in pigeon English after serving multi people in between and telling them all it would be a 10mins wait…. 10minutes later our food was slapped and dumped and thrown at us indignantly… I’m sorry did we do something to offend you by ordering? The only good thing I have to say…. The fish was hot and a decent meaty portion and the batter crispy but totally tasteless, the vinegar was a scaring on it, thank goodness for brown sauce sashy at 10p each! What little potato chips there were was bland soggy and pale the rest of the chip portion was scraps of crispy batter. Glad we didn’t order anything else…. Not sure my stomach could of taken much more from such a grubby unloved place… unfortunately the wait meant we were able to spend a bit more time looking at the back of house setup which left a lot to be desired and not really conforming to the Hygiene standards you’d expect with the back door wide open and no fly covering over prepared potatoes dumped beside the used mop and bucket on the floor. To say we’ll not be back is an understatement….. harbour side fish and chips… more like central city backstreet takeaway…

Just returning from a wee jaunt on the ferry to Tarbert to get fish suppers for the four of us. Certainly worth the trip. Fish was fresh, not greasy, excellent batter. Chips were good too. All cooked to order and ready in 10 minutes. Don't be put off by the sparse appearance in the shop. This was a good, delicious meal. Well recommended.

He had high hopes for this place but were disappointed by the frozen chips, the soggy batter and we remain to be convinced it was local catch. We wouldn't recommend.

An ideal setting for Fish & Chips. The Scottish harbour view raised expectations. Unfortunately, the fish was awful, the batter oily and the chops not great. We did not eat much. We should have complained but we were in a rush.

Smell is funny (using very old oil?) and little taste on the fish. The Fries are waaaayyyyy to salty.

Just for information to be on the safe side book an order online and get time slot. Was about to pay to be told a 25 minute wait, especially when there are currently no retai facilities on Ferries. Didn't wait as I would be further home than wait, so.cant comment on the food.

Waited 35 minutes for very mediocre fish and chips. Chips hard and dry. All the locals were in and out quick while I stood at the counter for 35 minutes even though there wasn't a queue when I put my order in. Won't be going back.

Tried it out while in Tarbert, was not a fan as the batter on the fish was soggy and the chips were tough as if they had lady for a while.

Worst fish supper ever, tastless fish - wondered if it was actually haddock - a little underdone, some chips were okay but a lot of them were hard & chewy. Whie pudding was tasty though. Had to wait about 45 mins, only 1 guy working,...

This chippy is in a good position overlooking the harbour..that is the best bit. The wait was so long and the food was poor..the chips were awful..the shop smelt of dirty fat also

50 minutes for fish and chips! The guys working there didn’t have a clue what they were doing! I found this to be terrible service. Also no social distancing from the guys working there. They should have been on top of that!

Not the best experience. We qued and waited for nearly an hour for 4 fish suppers. Then when we got back to the car and ready to tuck in - opened the boxes only to discover that one supper had no fish!!! A refund and apology was received, but staff clearly can't cope with the demand when things get busy. The food we did receive was actually fine, but can't say we will be rushing back.

Got fish and chips here last week .Ordered Haddock which it certainly wasnt ,was either pollock or something else tasteless .

No social distancing at one point there was 15 people in one small waiting area , hygiene in shop is awful food on floor inches of dust on the freezer customer side of counter, customer service was absolutely awful and the food was tasteless traveled the UK and this is without a doubt the worst chippy I have had the Mis fortune to visit the staff were rude

Loch Fyne Fish Bar is the chip shop in Tarbet. I couldn't change it to Tarbet. No option to change. The wee triangle didn't appear. We walked about the Harbour area and went climbed up the stairs to see the castle. We had a lovely day out today. The weather held out for us. No much rain today
