Loch Fyne in Solihull

We dine here at least once a month even though we live an hour away & can not fault anything. Totally shocked arrived on Wednesday to a sign saying Permanently Closed and gentleman changing locks. At the time nothing on web site saying they were closed.

Awful service, lots of items On menu out of stock, mediocre luke warm food, staff were uninformative. No one asked if food was ok, sat for 10 Minutes without menu.

When we were shown our table we had to exchange 2 chairs with another table as there were big smears of a mayonnaise type substance on them. There were no paper napkins on our table but there were on others. At every course the waiting staff got things wrong. They brought a starter that hadn’t been ordered and also coffee. They got one of the main dishes wrong which by the time the correct one was brought the others present had nearly eaten their meals. That said the food was actually quite good! Between the 4 of us we enjoyed scallops, squid, hake, bream, fish pie, seafood risotto and sides of okra and broccoli which were all cooked well. The chocolate truffle cake and the crème brulee were also good. It took 3 attempts to get the bill right and although this was still wrong on attempt 3 because it was less than 5 pounds out this last time we simply paid it and left leaving no service charge. This was a shame as the food was good but the experience such hard work

Another lovely afternoon spent at Loch Fyne. Love the laid-back atmosphere. The food is superb, if you love fish you won't be disappointed. The service from all the staff is exceptional.

Loch Fyne in Knowle is just brilliant, they never fail to impress. The service is just the wonderful the manager was very helpful and knowledgeable regarding the menu. We had a 3 course voucher which included a bottle of champagne for 2 people. Everything was amazing I could not fault one thing from the evening. This place is one of if not the best fish restaurant in Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

We have just had a lovely meal this afternoon. The staff were lovely, especially the young lady who served us. Very polite and attentive but not overly so. We mentioned it was our 47th wedding anniversary and when we went to pay the bill our two glasses of champagne we ordered were given to us complements of the house. Which was a lovely surprise to us. Thank you. We would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back. We live 28miles from Knowle but it was worth the journey.

Still a nice environment with spacious tables and pleasant setting. However, been some years since we visited and it’s really now settled into a pretty drab chain restaurant in terms of food and service. Very expensive for what is served; fish soup portion in particular, was ludicrous. 7 or 8 spoonfuls wouldn’t be an exaggeration. Cost of wine is astronomical (mark-up must be jaw dropping). Main fish courses were really tasteless. Fish didn’t appear particularly fresh. Just bland, limited and certainly nowhere near worth the prices being charged here. Waiters/waitresses are pleasant enough but really no idea about how to provide a good level of service. Courses delivered in rapid succession; literally 30 seconds between pre-meal nibbles landing and starters being served. All in all, a very disappointing experience. Used to really like Loch Fyne but won’t return. The place was fairly busy but I can only put this down to a lack of alternative seafood choices within Knowle.

Super staff. Wonderful choices . We celebrated our birthday here last night while at a trade show at the NEC I rarely have a post meal liquoir coffee as ive been disappoined so msny times but my French Liquour coffee eas the very bestt ive had.

What a lovely evening. The food was fresh and piping hot. The monkfish tail was beautiful and my other half’s fish and chips were faultless. Always a warm welcome from the front of house team. A great local restaurant

We visited on a Monday evening for a family meal and were not disappointed. Quality of service and welcome was great. Petra is amazing. Friendly, bubbly and generally very helpful. We left feeling full, happy and having had value for money! Quality of seafood was also very good. Would be happy to call again!

The food was fantastic fresh quality and superbly cooked, came in without reservation in a busy day but one of the staff manage to get us a table. We didn’t plan to eat oysters but we saw how the friendly asian chef (I asked her name but I forgot) prepare it and it looks amazing. Would definitely go again great service!

After having aged 10 years in this restaurant, the waiter put my troubles at ease with a reassuring 'it will be ready in 10 minutes'. I felt a sigh of relief from my hangryness until it got to ten minutes. Then another ten minutes. Then 4 ten minutes more, and it arrived. The food was fine, but I am still confused as to when ten minutes switched, meaning to an hour. Anyway at least we got 50% off mains.

We had booked the Greswolde Arms hotel for Burns night following a promotion that had enticed us to book. (See my review on that experience on trip advisor). Basically their manager was rude to us when she couldn’t deliver the menu choices offered in the promotion..or any suitable alternative. She actually suggested we had the choice to eat elsewhere! So we did..we left..with no other booking on a busy Burns night! So we walked over the road to Loch Fyne restaurant. I explained the very unusual position to the manager of the Loch Fyne restaurant who totally understood our dilemma. He explained that whilst they were very busy he would do his very best to accommodate us. Without hesitation he found us a fantastic table by the window and treated us like proper customers. We had the best food, best service and were treated like royalty. Incredible, the manager even apologised on behalf of the Knowle hospitality industry. That’s service! The rest of the team were advised of our experience and they all bent over backwards to make our evening special after what was a nasty experience with the Greswolde manager. Well done to the amazing manager. I’m sorry I don’t know his name but he’s been there 14 years if that helps identify him. The head office of Loch Fyne restaurants need to look after this top guy. Thank you to you and your team from my wife and I. Fully recommend this restaurant.

We visited on a nice January Saturday for a late lunch and were impressed. Friendly and welcoming service (maybe a little slow) but very tasty food (smoked salmon & squid for starters, Meagre and mussels for mains) and all good flavours and nice drink options too. The 50% off mains offer was an added bonus.

Wow! Just got back from lunch at Loch Fyne in Knowle where there is a 50% offer off all A La Carte dishes. The three of us had beautiful mains all professionaly presented and was given excellent service as always by Chris who is a skillful and very caring waiter. A bottle of wine Which was outstanding ( £23 ) and three mains plus one dessert for under £50 due to the January special offer. Haven't visited Loch Fyne in probably 5 years, went on Wednesday night and was shocked by how quiet it was, it used to be rammed. Too many white sauces with white fishes, more mackerels and oily fishes with spicy sauces required please, ended up having cod and chips, it was OK but thick cut chips, freshly cooked would be nicer, only picked here partly because had a discount through the AA, another discount offered on our receipt if you return within 4 weeks, food was served promptly, a little too promptly perhaps, it was OK but nothing special.

I attended the knowle restaurant on Saturday evening and was served by Marian. I would like to say his service was amazing and he made our evening so special. The food was amazing but his service really made the night. Every dish we had was cooked to perfection and bought out in a timely manner. I would highly recommend the lobster! It was beautiful. My wife and I were wondering where to eat while spending an evening in Knowle before returning home to France. We wandered up and down the street, looking at menus and peering in windows, trying to decide which looked the best bet.Never again!Whenever we return to this area, not just Knowle, we will head for the Loch Fyne restaurant,After excellent starters (chilli prawns for me and squid for my wife), we opted for the "fishmongers'" choice. My whole Sea Bass and Penny's Hake were pan-fried to perfection, washed down with a very good Picpoul de Pinet white wine that had traveled as far as we had, from the South of France.The whole experience was superb - aided by the ever-professional but very friendly Gia, our hostess for the evening.Bravo to the whole team. No doubt at all which place to eat in this part of the West Midlands.

We were really well looked after by the waiters and a very special manager who was brilliant, plus he was from Transylvania - how cool is that! He didn’t make a lunge for my neck once. The food was particularly good an all round great night.

An absolutely stunning dinner with the nicest waiting staff. Food allergens catered for. Fish cooked to perfection. Very clean… I only wish that sweet potato fries is added to the menu.

After a stressful time, this was a perfect place to chill out! The service and food were excellent as usual. Although this was my first meal out in a year, we have visited Loch Fyne several times in the past and have never been disappointed. I had two starters rather than a main course, and both were fresh and delicious- squid then scallops with samphire and a bread basket on the side. My brother enjoyed a grilled cod fillet, prepared specially as his first choice was no longer available. A glass of Joseph Perrier completed this special treat.

Two of our group of four ordered the grilled lobster. It was small, overdone, and overpriced at £37 per main. Jumbo prawns on the other hand, were massive, and £32 per main. Service was friendly, and the team very accommodating at the end of the meal when we asked if our cocktails could be re-made. No quibbles. A nice venue but overpriced IMO.
