I've spent a lot of time in China and had many hotpots along the way. I can say that Little Lamb is a traditional Chinese hotpot venue and whilst I accept that eating in London is never going to be the cheapest it was just under £140 for 2 adults, 2 kids including 2 fantas and a Jasmine tea for 2. Whilst my family enjoyed the experience the food was mediocre and the price for what we ate was eye watering.

We went to this place because my boyfriend wanted to have a steamboat for lunch. There’s a buffet menu as well as a larte. We chose the steamboat buffet for £25.99 per person. It was worth it In the beginning, as we were hungry, we thick almost all the options on the menu(greedy i know) We chose 2 soups, spicy and tomato based soup. That tomato soup was so tasty. All the food that we ordered came out fresh, especially the prawns and crabs. Not all the food that we ordered come out but we didn’t need it all as we are so full after. Thank you. Will come back very soon.

This meal was a reunion of group who met on holiday in China last year and wanted to share a Hotpot again. The Little Lamb was a great place to choose. The food was plentiful and good. We were lucky to turn up on spec on a Tuesday night and only have to wait a few minutes, so booking is recommended. The food is mostly good, but if you go a la carte, go easy as the prices can really rack up that you may be better off going with the £25.99 pp Meal Deal. Skip the crab; all you get are 3 leg sections and they have no utensils to extract what little meat there is; you'll have to get messy or it'll be in there for 'flavour'. The broth is great (the herbal and, especially the mushroom, bases are fantastic), but it seems they don't encourage you to consume it. We had to ask for bowls just to finish it off. There's so much wastage with hotpot restaurant meals. The ingredients are thinly sliced (in order to cook quicker), so once cooked, the pork and the lamb are indistinguishable, and whilst I've had a lot of different tastes, I just don't think I had a proper meal from the sum of all the parts, despite eating everything we ordered. Having said that it is a good place for a socialising with a group of friends. Just try to cook fast and eat fast!

If you are a lover of hotpot then this is an excellent place to go. It is quite an unassuming restaurant but the fact that it was full of Chinese customers made us give it a try. It really reminded us of our times in China (we lived there). The choice for hotpot ingredients was great. We always have the half-half pot so that we can have a mix of spicy and 'normal' broth. We had really polite staff. We tried a Pinot Grigio that wasn't that great. I would suggest sticking to the beer. If we are in London again we will be heading here. It is not a fine-dining experience by any means; just comfy, casual and for us authentic.

The restaurant locates in China Town on the main road - 72 Shaftesbury Avenue, the hot pot was really good, fresh ingredients, we tried the sea food hot pot with 2 main flavours - spicy and miso based. Waiters were very friendly and helpful. The price for the hot pot was good, not expensive and not cheap. The starter was good - I had a grilled barbecue. We will be back again.

We stumbled across this place on Saturday, being Chinese New Year, we thought we’d enjoy the atmosphere of China town. Queues were horrendous so felt a little despondent and headed out. Walking down Shaftesbury ave we saw this gem - wow! Really great place, staff were really helpful as we explained that we’d never been to a place like this before. The waitress was patient and talked us through the buffet options and recommended items to us. The clientele was pro dominantly Chinese which is always a good sign in a Chinese restaurant. The two 18yr olds we had with us also enjoyed the experience. Will visit again if in the area again.

Service was horrendous. What restaurant is willing turn away 5 paying customer when there were at least three large tables available. They also don’t take reservations. Couple of servers were nice but then got an extremely rude server who was not attentive at all and basically pushing us to leave so that they can set up the table for next customers. Only giving it two stars rather than one because hot pot was decent. Not the best. All you can eat meats were okay quality. Seafood quality wasn’t great. Enjoyed the vegetables and tofu more... which was the best part. Broth was decent. You get what you pay for basically. Also if you can’t be bothered with long lines around Chinatown and just need to eat then this is the place. Spend your money elsewhere ... lots of better choices around.

My friend and I went to have all you can eat hot pot here earlier today. Food was good seem fresh however we were so shocked on how poorly the service was. Every time we ask for some toppings we always get death stares (I’m not even kidding) like I mean it says we can just keep ordering until our time is up so we’re just following the rules but all the staff did not seem happy when we ask for some top ups. There was literally no customer service at this place! Then towards the end the guy waiter comes around to our table reached over and turned off our pot and screamed “times up you got to leave” & that there are people outside waiting.. we looked outside there was no one waiting outside.. (at this moment my friend and I realized we’re getting kicked out) then he asked for the payment while I was still half way chewing my food... in my whole life I’ve never been kicked out like that whilst I’m eating at a damn restaurant. We’re making business for you, we have money to pay, not like we we’re gonna so a runner? Honestly I did not want to write a review but today I have never felt so unwelcome, neglected and experienced such poor customer service ever in my life. Probably would never go back here again ever.

Visiting U.K. from Los Angeles and got the craving for hotpot. Did a quick search and here we are! (Apparently hotpot isn't a big thing here in U.K.) Did I mentioned we also tried Shuang Shuang 2 nights ago and it was such a disappointment? We should of just walked over to Little Lamb instead of giving Shuang Shuang a opportunity to gyp us. It was literally few shops down!!! Ugh! I'll write another review about them on their page. We did the all you can eat combo (£23 per person) excluding sauces and drinks. Which was completely worth it. The items were limited to sections 3-9 but it was a lot of different varieties, from red meats to veggies, they got it all! You'll definitely leave happy. The reason I took away 1 star is because of the broth. It was literally Knorr chicken powder and it was £8.Service was good. The food came out quickly after we ordered and they weren't very stingy with the portion. Away from home where all the good hotpots are, I guess this will do. It did curbed the craving.

On a cold and rainy day a hotpot is a great idea, and the food here didn't disappoint: we went for a two flavour hotpot, one side of the cauldron a herby, fenugreeky broth, and the other side an oily slick of fiery chillis. To be honest you have to scoop the chillis off onto a side plate in order to actually see what you're putting in there, but the flavour was really good, and absolutely perfect for keeping the outside world at bay. The cauldron itself takes pride of place on the table on the electric hob, and everything else is arrayed around it - you throw things in, and when you think they're ready, you fish them out and devour them. Simple stuff, but really satisfying and very filling. We went for a broad selection of ingredients, an unlimited supply for two hours from the time you sit down for £23 although with the caveat that a steep charge applies if you order something and don't eat it. The fish balls were great in the fiery broth, as was the crisp, picture perfect pak choi. A brief dip in the lighter broth was good for paper thin strips of pork belly. While the food was good, and the value fairly decent, the disappointment here was the place itself, and the service. Eating anywhere around Chinatown you almost expect surly service, but there are limits to how long you can find it funny for, and worse than that we were only told after being there for twenty minutes that your two hour timer starts from the moment you take a seat. Even worse, there was an overpowering stench of sewage coming from the toilets - in fariness you couldn't smell it in the eating area, but it kinda killed the appetite after stepping into the hallway to visit the toilets. Not a bad place to go, but you could certainly do better in terms of overall experience.

I specially downloaded this app to write my review about this horrible place "Little Lamb", so hear me out people. It was my birthday on 7th of April so I decided to take my family out for dinner. I called them to book my table for 6 for 7:45. When we walked in they never greeted us so I had to do all the enquiries about my table ~ but bottom line is I got my table. We were 5 of them in the table but only had 4 cutleries on the table thought the staff would bring it over but she was not even bothered to take out order. When we finally got her attention we asked for unlimited hotpot from the menu. We were 5 people and had ticked around 12 items in the menu as it was unlimited and comes in very small portion but the staff only brought us 5 tiny portion of veg and fish balls. Waited and waited for out order nope nothing. All of the staff was rude they would for some reason use phrases like watch your back instead of saying sorry or excuse me and we never got our cutlery because the rack was behind us we just pulled it from the back. They got our drinks wrong and the worst thing is for that small portion of hotpot we ended up paying £128. It was meant to be unlimited but they showed us they don't want to serve us, I felt they were deliberately humiliating us and I felt bad for my family sitting there. They gave my entire family a horrible service. Very very rude service, Never ever going back there.

Firstly you have to get over the fact that this place looks like a run down takeaway kebab shop and that your soft drink will be served in the can with a straw. Once you have however, I'm afraid it doesn't get any better. I have to say I've never had Chinese style fondue before, they have a similar dish in Switzerland which is beautiful. This, is not. The broth can only be likened to a lukewarm bowl of water you've washed your feet and dog in before deciding to throw your dinner in. 3/10 of our party simply refused to eat it. The meat comes out as wafer thin slices that cannot be distinguished by look or taste. It could have been horse for all I know, it tasted like the back end of a donkey. It was just vile. We paid £40 each for 1 course and everyone had 2 drinks. I left starving because it was chiefly inedible. The sharing aspect is incredibly gimmicky and I got over the novelty of going to a restaurant to cook my own food when I was 10.Staff were pretty rubbish. Half the stuff we ordered came out late. This was, without exaggeration, the worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant.

//ServiceMe and my wife were trying hotpot for the first time last night. We showed up with no reservation and they managed to squeeze us in after 45 minutes and even gave us two free beers for the trouble of waiting. This is exemplary customer service from the get-go! The service continued to be excellent for the remainder of the evening.//Food - rated out of ten based on my PERSONAL taste, which differs from yours and my wife's!We ordered the set hotpot menu, which allowed us 5 items each:•Spicy Hotpot / Herbal Hot Pot (herbal was recommended by the waitress for use with vegetables, and I am very grateful as she was completely right)•Prawn on shell 7/10•Lamb slices (x2) 10/10 (Absolutely flavoursome and delicious!)•Beef slices 8/10•Udon noodles 8/10•Soft noodles 9/10•Coriander 6/10•Spinach 5/10•Beansprouts 10/10•Chinese Mushrooms 7/10When we go next time we will substitute some of these items for tofu, rolls, etc. Can't wait to come back!//AtmosphereThis is an expected Chinatown eating experience. I'm not sure if you should expect it any other way! People are situated closely together, the smells are rich, the beer is great, the food is great... it's awesome. One thing to note is that the smells of the hotpot will continue to linger on your clothes once you leave the restaurant. Personally I love this! but if you're not a fan (or if you are wearing your Sunday Best) be warned. //ValueI paid £53 including service charge for me and the wife. This includes two set menus and one beer (two beers were cancelled off the menu as stated above). Minus the third beer and it would have come to about £50 for two set menus.//VerdictA genuinely great experience, will be returning again to try the rest of the menu.

My partner and I visited on a Saturday night. The ground floor o the restaurant was half full and we sat in the middle of the restaurant. A word of warning, on a cold evening it can be a little chilly when the door is opened to be prepared to ask to sit downstairs if it's going to bother you.We ate a 2 stock hotpot, special spicy and herbal tonic. Both we nice but the spicy was really very spicy and the herbal tonic didn't stand up to it. If we were to go again we would swap the herbal tonic for something else.We had lamb, squid, fish balls, mushrooms, Noodles and some veg. All was good but the lamb was so think it almost disappeared to nothing, we'd swap in prawns or some other fish/meat. In addition to the hotpot we ordered some chicken wings and pork belly kebabs which were really flavoursome and spicy. We'd definitely have them again. There was more than enough food for us and it was all lovely. We even drank a load of the spicy stock as a soup. The service was OK but we had to ask for more drinks and chase up the bill-not a massive problem to us as there was always someone around. The whole meal, with 4 beers came to only £60 which seemed like particularly good value to us.We'd definitely visit again when we're in the mood for hotpot.

We decided to try this place after reading the reviews on TA. I am big fan of steamboats. As mentioned by others, the selection of soup bases and dishes is extensive and generally authentic for a steamboat. The meal itself was quite tasty, though we thought it was a tad pricey at 65 quid for two and that was for the sets. Perhaps that is the going rate in London? What really let this place down was the poor customer service by the two young lads. I had to ask them several times to check if they had served what we ordered and was met with a poor attitude each time. In the end, one of them admitted (after reluctantly doing a physical count of the number of dishes) that there was one dish missing and it was coincidentally the most expensive one on the menu - so you can't blame us for feeling shortchanged and annoyed! As much as we enjoyed the food, we wouldn't rush back to this restaurant unless they improve their service levels which is not a lot to ask!

We had hotpot, its a bit spicy but very tasty, we had the set which are more value for money than order individually.warning, I wouldn't go there with my best designer clothes because there is a very strong after smell on the clothes when finished.

During my time in Beijing, I have grown to love hotpot and missed it when I returned. So I was really happy to find that it is indeed available here in an almost original way.We went as a party of 5 and ordered a split base (spicy and mushroom). The menu is extensive and there is something for everybody. The fish balls were really good, so was the beef, lamb, tripe and vegetables. We didn't go for the 23 GBP a head deal but definitely will next time. The atmosphere is basic, but when going for a communal dining style like with hotpot, you don't need extravagance. Just good fresh ingredients and lots of fun. We had a great time and will definitely be back for more.

We stumbled in as it seemed to be full only of Chinese people - no tourists. Hooray! An authentic Chinese restaurant in London's Chinatown. We've never had hotpot before and really enjoyed it - for me especially the Pak Choi and the soft noodles. For my sons the meatballs were the best - speared with a chopstick. Cooking was fun, my teenage sons enjoyed it immensely and we were defeated by the quantities which was a surprise as normally they eat everything going!Service was quick and attentive - one waitress spoke excellent English and we had quite a chat. We didn't really know what to do with "hotpot" but soon got the hang of it by watching everyone else. Tip: wait until its steaming, we got impatient and started putting things in too quickly...:not a great idea if you want to eat properly cooked foodYou can order as much or as little as you want, and nobody seemed to mind that we only drank tap water. It is fairly expensive (£26 set meal including service charge) but this is Shaftesbury Avenue in Central London - be realistic. It was on a par with our American, British and Italian eating prices on other nights but overall better value and a LOT more fun to cook yourself!

I could spot quite a few “natives” which is always a good sign in terms of authenticity! This humble outlet in Chinatown offers a wide variety of meals particularly seasoned soups and vegetables to add to your ‘Hot pot’.Although, the quality of food such as the mushrooms and Pak Choi was very high, it does not mean £50 for two individuals is an acceptable price. The expense certainly made me question the value for money. The hotplate kept turning on and off due to a loose plug. The waitresses were pleasant but their incessant pacing up and down became distracting. They also need to stop standing next to customers every 5 minutes whilst people are trying to eat. If you come in a group of three or more individuals (to split the cost) I would highly recommend ‘Little Lamb’ for their hotpot.

Hot-Pot really needs two or more people, I was exploring on my own, and found great food, a great atmosphere, and lots of help from staff and other customers. Recommend you go as two or more, you share a huge pot of boiling stock and cook your food in it with chopsticks. It works out a little expensive solo, but cheaper than a flight to Ulan Bator!

Wanted to find a restaurant that did Hot Pot in Chinatown so looked it up online. Came across Little Lamb and decided to check it out. It's small and intimate and certainly does the job! I came when it wasn't busy, so easily got a table. On the table there is a menu and all you need to do is tick which broth, ingredients and sauce you'd like! I chose the £10 option for two different types of broth, the Little Lamb special sauce, fish balls, beef slices, tofu and pok choi. I think the bill came up to about 30 pounds (service charge included). If you just want to try out Hot Pot then certainly visit this restaurant!

Someone recommended this place to us as it was supposed to be one of the best . The staff was attentive the portions where good price was reasonable the only thing that completely threw me off my food and all the good side of it was a cockroach walk straight past us . My friend noticed it at first and then when it started moving it made me lose appetite and disgusted . They didn't charge us for this experience but due to the fact they was attentive and gave us good service I still decided to give a little something out of good will . I will never go there again unless I see a 5 star rating by health and hygiene department .

I live in Hainan, China and was introduced to HotPot by a close Chinese friend. It was brilliant. The food is tasty, you cook it yourself, great entertainment etc. Little Lamb is the closest to authentic Chinese food since I have returned to the UK. One thing which was news to me was choosing the stock you cook your food in, absolutely brilliant. It means I can have spicy and my girlfriend can have something that won't take her mouth off! ALL THE REVIEWS SAYING IT WAS RUBBISH, TALK RUBBISH. They obviously do not like Chinese HotPot, its nothing to do with the restaurant itself. Highly recommended for those who want to move away from the MSG soaked grease, that westerners seem to desire for the local takeaway!

Hotpot meals are difficult to comment upon as you do all the work. Nevertheless this small basic restaurant did everything right. Nice atmosphere, excellent stock frequently topped up, fresh raw vegetables and meats and good tea ! Whats not to like.

I love this place and have eaten here in the past few years... I'm kind of laughing at the previous comment complaining about the process of cooking your own raw food and placing it in stock... That is exactly what Szechuan hotpot is all about! I wonder whether he'd chosen a plain soup base like the chicken or a tomato base, which my friends have but I find totally bland. Original hotpot is a very spicy base that consists of dried chillies and Szechuan peppercorns etc... It's a very particular taste. If you want to try the different soup bases, they do have pots that are divided into two or three compartments, as not everyone has the same taste. Also, once the food is cooked, you can dip them in one of the sauces they have on the menu, which is at extra cost. I agree with another post, but they really should do something about the toilets. other then that, I love this place!

They give you a bowl of stock and all the items you order raw. You have to put te pieces of food individually into the pot and let it cook. It was a painstaking process and the food didnt even taste good. Ended up costing upwards of 20 pounds and they even add on a 10% service charge. THEY DIDNT EVEN DO ANYTHING

Not recommended. The lamb and pork cuts were half frozen and all the balls (fish, shrimp, etc) were frozen and of the sort you buy in huge packets from the supermarket. You can find better hotpot places elsewhere. This is definitely NOT the Little Sheep chain of hotpot restaurants that are famous in North America and China.

I used to live in China & miss hotpot, so when I found this place, I was very happy! You choose 5 dishes and the stock/ soup base for £23 per person... and you cook the raw dishes in the hotpot on your table! It's a very small restaurant, and sits 4 people per table and if I remember correctly, there are only about 8 tables in total. It's a very casual place and always has lots of Chinese people eating there & I love it. My only downside to this place is that the toilets are in need of a refurbish.

This is your very normal typical Chinese hotpot restaurant. They gave you a paper to tick the food you want to order and what kind of stock you would like. You can choose from a range of stock like mushroom, sichuan or some chilli paste stock. I think its quite pricey (in my honest opinion) but the waitresses were very cooperative when it comes to settling the bills. They make sure our bills dont get mixed up with another table which our friends were sitting. The atmosphere is great if you prefer a rowdy chinese restaurant!

I had booked this steamboat restaurant for our international group of 25 after reading a number of good reviews. It was disappointing. The staff were clearly unable to handle a large party. Although they seated us, at two large and one small tables in the basement, it took a long time before they came to take our orders (even for drinks). Not having been to such a restaurant before, we wanted to know how to order. There were small menus with boxes to tick indicating our selections. The set meal includes one stock chosen from about 5 options - shared among five people - and up to 5 different ingreddient selections per person. This was clearly a recipe for chaos. There were five different bowls of stock on hot plates on our tables, but these started at different times because they didn't seem to have enough large bowls. The ingredients started coming in an unpredictable order and at unpredictable intervals. The Chinese staff didn't seem to have enough English to understand or to answer our questions. However, the food quality was good. The most successful were the sliced meats, squid, the fish and prawn balls, and the dim sums.Don't bother with the crab: although tasty it's very fiddly and there's not much meat in the legs. As for atmosphere - we made our own. It was a cellar, with plastic tablecloths, wooden benches to sit on, and a few Chinese posters on the walls. No ambience! As for service, although ve-e-ery slow, it wasn't unfriendly, so maybe a little above the normal London chinatown standard.

I love the Little Lamb for hot pot in London. It is cheap and there is a lot of food and beer for a little money. It is exactly what hot pot ought to be... lots of food and veggies and beer cooked with friends in spicy broths at the table in a casual environment. The service is also nice and friendly. I love going there with friends to get a night started or to have a relaxed, but fun night with friends. Definitely book though... they get busy on weeekends!

The food was fantastic, but the service was awful but the service was lacking. The waitress seemed handling too many tables, so we had to ask several times for water, chopsticks. Despite the great food, the inattentive service made the experience less enjoyable.

If you go to this place i'd highly recommend the black bean tofu. You see, it has to be done in a certain way so the flavors come out just right. i have mine with white rice.
