Fantastic Afternoon Tea. Warm nibbles and dip, quiche, sandwiches, and chips included, plus warm scones with proper clotted cream, and jam and yummy handmade cakes. All beautifully presented.

I visited this delightful venue with my husband. We had been before and few years ago and it didn’t disappoint. Staff were friendly and accommodating. It was busy, refreshments arrived quickly, as did the food after ordering. I had the turkey roast dinner, the best I have ever eaten out. Vegetables were fresh and cooked just right, the mash was creamy and buttery. The roast potatoes crisp and fluffy. The meat succulent and juicy. It was beautiful and piping hot. My husband’s meal, all day breakfast, was also the best he had ever had. Thoroughly enjoyable all round. We will definitely visit again

Called in whilst on a rare outing to St Helen’s town centre during the day having not been for a long while, food and service still as good as previous. 2x breakfasts ordered with a pot of real tea and thoroughly enjoyed by both of us, need to frequent this establishment more for sure. Definitely worth a visit and will absolutely make the effort to return more often, keep up the good work….

We often have a payday treat delivery at work from Lilys. Today, we had the best one. My colleague couldn't finish her panini and side of chips as the panini was so generously filled. I had the chilli and chips. I eat chilli in lots of places. I make a rather good chilli myself. But this was the best chilli I've had in a long time. Lilys is consistently good. Even as a delivery, food is delivered fresh and hot. Can't wait til next payday Lilys

Having been promising a visit for a while on a walkabout town today got the chance it was as the reviews food was exceptional & the pot of real tea which was outstanding brought back many memories of years gone by, the deluxe breakfast got tem out of ten along with friendly staff I can 100% recommend ant I will return soon to sample the afternoon tea.

I have left a review on here in the past but feel the need to leave another one. Came here for afternoon tea for mother's day and lily's excelled themselves yet again. Staff worked so hard to make mother's day special. Food was out of this world. You certainly don't leave lily's hungry.

An easy and short walk from St Helen’s World of Glass. Had afternoon tea. Booked in advance. Just as well as Lily’s was busy with all tables occupied when we arrived at 13:00. Very welcoming. Informal and efficient. Had afternoon tea: tea, selection of sandwiches, some deep-fried snacks, salad, and chips. Sandwiches plump with fillings. Fried bites added some lovely variety. Chips done perfectly: golden; crispy outsides; hot, fluffy insides. Tea was leaves with a separate strainer and porcelain cup and saucer. Earl Grey was richly flavoured. Regular was full flavoured. Cake selection was scone, cream, jam (without bits), mini Victoria sponge, mini fairy cake, Viennese-style multi-layer slice, maybe another one or two as well. Too much cake for me so it was nice to be able to take some away. A very good experience and definitely recommended if you’re visiting St Helen’s.

Delightful tearooms, choice of meals to cater for everyone, beautifully presented by really pleasant staff. Everything you could possibly want, from a toasted teacake to delicious main meals, and scrumptious afternoon teas too. Our favourite place to eat when in St Helens.

Went for breakfast and was impressed with the service and the quality of food. The decor and the background music added to the ambiance of the place. Will I go again I certainly will.

Ordered 2 steak pies and chips. Only when the meal was ready did the staff tell us that there was only one portion of pie and so they had split it between the 2 of us but said they had given us extra veg. We were in a hurry so said ok (it was lunch time). The veg was inedible - overcooked but cold (looked like it had been around for a fe day). We struggled to find more than a handful of pieces of steak between the 2 of us, the rest was just thick gloopy gravy. The only good thing on the plate was the hot chips. The staff did knock off 20% when we highlighted this to them (especially when they were going to charge us full price for only half a pie each with very little filling. Very disappointed as we had read lots of good reviews before going, but struggling to see how it was rated so highly.

Visited today, really enjoyed our afternoon tea. Our only complaint, which is silly really, there was too much food. The savoury tower was lovely, chips, really good. We just couldn’t manage the sweet plates but took doggy bag home. Really good value

They advertised afternoon tea on offer back in Feb. Really nice place with and old fashion look, fresh cakes and scones. Very attentive,was going to book for the mother's Day tea but Coronavirus put a stop to it

We took my mum for afternoon tea on sat 1st feb. The tea rooms are cozy and comfortable and staff can’t do enough for you. The afternoon tea was delicious with a surprise bowl of chips. It was on offer was Definitely worth the price we paid, 2 for £19.95.

I visited Lily’s Tearoom with my mum, sister and mother in law. The afternoon tea included homemade chips and other hot snacks as well as the standard sandwiches and cakes. We took some of the cakes home as there was so much food. The scones were warm which just makes them even better. Also if you do not like fruit scones, make sure you request them plain and they will be more than happy to provide them. I’ll definitely go back

Had afternoon tea here for a birthday get together with friends. It’s a little quaint place that was packed when we got there but we had booked so it was fine. We had one of the best afternoon teas I’ve had and I’ve had a lot varying in price/places including Harvey Nichols and Selfridges. This is without doubt the best for value for money, I don’t know how they can make anything! It was £10 per person, we got coffee/tea ( just normal coffee, no lattes or cappuccinos they were at an extra cost) and there was only one small cup of coffee/tea included. Everywhere else I’ve been we’ve had unlimited tea/coffees so I was surprised we were charged an additional £5.50 in total for the extra coffee we each had (there were 4 of us). That was fine as it was my fault in presuming it was included but thought it was worth mentioning to others who may get carried away with their extra brews! The afternoon tea consisted of a cheese and Branson pickle, roast beef, ham, egg and tuna finger sandwich. The bread was lovely and fresh and all good quality fillings. Then we had hot spring roll, chicken nugget, cheese ball and a slice of quiche which again were of high quality. There was also a lovely bowl of chips, salad and a dip. Then we had a carrot cake, red velvet cake, toffee butterfly cake and a fruit scone with jam and clotted cream. The scones felt warm and were absolutely deliciously fresh. All the cakes were beautiful and I asked if they were all home made and they were. Service was great too, lovely and friendly. I will definitely be returning here and have no hesitation at all in recommending!

Me and my friend each went for the high tea it was delicious. Sandwiches were plentiful and the scone was lovely. We even got 4 cups of tea each out of our pot. Excellent, friendly service. We have rebooked for the Christmas afternoon tea we can't wait. Thank you for a lovely lunch

As we couldn't spend Mothers Day together, my son's treated me to lunch.

Called in for tea with my Granddaughter as she had passed many times and always wanted to go. A small place but very cosy and the decor is lovely, simple and takes you back in time. I was surprised at the extensive menu for a small place, plenty of choice for a meal or just a snack. The food was good and a decent sized pot of tea made with leaf tea, it was a lovely cuppa. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I will definately call in here again.

Been to this cafe/restaurant several times now mostly for breakfast, great little place to eat with friendly staff and good old home made food. Nice cup of loose tea to go with your breakfast. had lunch there a couple of times also nice homemade chips. In short well worth a visit.

So disappointing, my friend gave me a gift voucher for Afternoon Tea for my Birthday I’d seen pictures on their website, we pre-booked and we were so looking forward to it, and so underwhelmed when we received it. The food was sparse and one small bowl of chips to share, then the desert stand arrived, again sparse and underwhelming, reading other reviews some have mentioned that they had to take some home they were that full, it must definitely depend on what day of the week you go, as that certainly wasn’t the case for us. It just wasn’t good value for money.

I cannot believe I don’t appear to have reviewed this local eatery yet. We have been visiting regularly most of the past twelve years or so. It changed hands about four years ago.Unfortunately, to our minds, standards have begun to fall and the experience less pleasing than previously. The previous owner, Linda, was larger than life and a very hands- on owner;her husband Ian presided in the kitchen. We enjoyed it so much, we chose it to take my mum to celebrate her 101st birthday, the last chance we got to take her out as she sadly passed away a few weeks afterwards.

Friendly not expensive, lots of options, very good breakfast. Was quite quiet when I visited abt 10AM on a weekday I'll definitely visit again. Being close to the bus station is both convenient & tempting.

I have been born and bred in St Helens, but, until today, I had never visited this little establishment. We went to lunch with her indoors' grandparents, and what a lovely little dinner date it was.

Stopped here for afternoon tea on Saturday 10th November, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Walked through the door and stepped back in time, which was about the only thing we liked.

I booked Afternoon Tea a couple of days before our visit, we arrived a bit early but that was no problem, the food and service where A*. The Tearoom was very busy with the waitresses looking to find seating for walk-in customers, we where not rushed .

Found this tea room in a side street and will definitely be going back there. The food was brilliant (especially the chips) and tea (leaves not bag) was served in a China cup with tea strainer. Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great.

We were delighted to find this super tearoom on our short walk from the station to the town centre.Very fitting Victorian style decor with countless teapots on display.We were quickly served with proper leaf tea and our bacon on toast,both excellent.A sign of this place's popularity is that most tables were occupied.Good as ever to spend my money at a small business,rather than one of those characterless rip-off,tax-avoiding coffee chains.

Visited Lily's last in the week, our usual place to eat. Food excellent as always, but a little dissapointed with the staff, can only hope the usual ladies are off on a well deserved holiday, and it isn't under new ownership, only recognised one of the girls, and the young girl who served us hardly spoke a word, or cracked a smile on her face, it wasn't busy either, which was quite unusual. Will probably go back when next in town, hopefully the other ladies are back, always ready with a smile and a chat, makes all the difference !!!

The only thing Victorian about Lily's is the decor and the huge collection of tea pots.

It's a lovley friendly place with a great selection on the menu, plus the loose tea is great too. It's like bettys of York on a smaller scale.

I have to say it's a few decades since I had lose leaf tea in a pot my 12 year old daughter loved it being diabetic I should have asked if any sweeteners were available but that's my fault food service etc. were all good

Lovely tea rooms, had high tea with my daughter. Hot and cold items with lots of choice of sandwich’s and cakes. Couldn’t possibly eat all the cakes so took 4 each home with us. Will definitely go back to order off menu, everything home cooked, no fast food here.

I have just been here today for our 1st time, we booked a table has it is reccomended to do so and im glad we did has it was busy. However my aunty treated herself, me and my friend. We opted in for the bubbly afternoon tea and very nice it was too. The food was faultless, and the women where lovely too and even managed to accomodate for my friend's pram. I've visited on many occasions & always found it lovely. Went early January on a busy Saturday, we booked for afternoon tea as a treat. It was brilliant, so much to eat, great sandwiches & hot nibbles & scrumptious cakes. Would recommend.

Posh no ... but you get a great cup of tea ... the tuna mayonnaise baked potato was delicious... my husbands cheese toastie was also delicious and substantial ... 5 star hygiene award.... definitely worth a visit x

Can't fault service but when visiting tea rooms you expect there to be cakes on the menu. They do serve scones. I would describe it more as a cafe. There is an extensive menu good arrived well presented and was homemade but some ingredients poor quality.

Went to Lily's today for afternoon tea. We were seated quickly and the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. The tea was made using loose leaf tea and was served in a huge teapot. The afternoon tea came in 2 parts, firstly a selection of sandwiches, home made chips and hot nibbles, then a wonderful selection of cakes. We didn't manage to eat everything, but what was left over was very kindly wrapped for us to take home. It was a lovely, quaint tea room and despite being very busy, the staff were attentive. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely ladies who made our visit a memorable one. Went for high tea and the standard of food and drink was excellent. It was very busy as the word has got around about how delightful this place is.

This was my very first visit to Lily's Victorian Tearoom a while back. I am a vegetarian and was worried that there would not be much choice for vegetarians. I was amazed that there were quite a few options and remember having a cheese and mushroom omelette which was delicious. The service was a bit slow, but the staff apologised and told us that they were short staffed. The only downside was that I thought it was a bit crammed and chairs and tables were too close together.

Have had several visits to Lilys but this was our first High Tea.The service is fabulous,the girls are very friendly and the food is authentic home cooking..The High Tea was delicious,very filling.It does get busy at times but the service is always first class whatever time you go.

The restaurant is not very big and therefore seats can be difficult to get at lunchtime.The menu is excellent and the food quality very good.

What a gem of a find !! well done TCA quaint atmosphere almost like your grans house and a warm welcome.... a rare find on its own these days.We all had afternoon tea ...sandwiches, savouries and salad ....and what a variation throughout....with coffee / tea. Plenty to eat and every bit was delicious.Then came the cake stand, a scone each with jam and clotted cream, Victoria sponge, butterfly cakes, cupcake muffin, and carrot cake....and a piece of each for each one of us.....delightful.We all enjoyed the food, the excellent service from the friendly staff and basically simply being there....We shall return and maybe try something different off the fabulous menu that has something for everyone ....or succumb and have the same again.Well done Lillies...you have got it right.

Popped in one afternoon with a young lady I was supporting.What a lovely place ! The atmosphere was charming with relaxing music, reasonably priced menu and friendly staff. This is going to be our regular location for an afternoon treat. :-)

Four of us, 3 adults and 1 young lady aged 2 and a half, came along to Lilys today for afternoon tea. We had reserved our table a couple of days in advance. Its a very quirky, vintage place, in an easily accessible spot in the town centre. It's close to a large car park. We we given a warm welcome on arrival and noticed how busy it was for a mid week early afternoon. The service was lovely and friendly, the food so enjoyable. There was a very happy atmosphere, with different tables of customers chatting to each other.. the place just lends itself to this sort of friendly banter. The high tea itself was delicious, very tasty sandwich fillings, ultra fresh. Hot savouries were piping hot, offering an unusual selection including mini Cornish pasties, mini spring rolls and fabulous slices of quiche. Best of all, a bowl of proper home made chips! The cakes were brought after the savouries had been demolished, warm home made scones, clotted cream and jam. Butterfly cakes carrot cakes sponges and mini cupcakes. The huge pot of loose leaf tea was so nice, and the delicate china cups and saucers were lovely, including a tiny one for the tiny guest with us today. It was a lovely experience today, one I cant wait to repeat. (To my shame, I ate so much early this afternoon, it's now gone 8pm and Im still full and cant eat my dinner!)

Booked Lily's Tearooms for Mother's Day afternoon tea. We booked this as we had been here on another Mother's Day and it had been lovely. Well today was completely the opposite. I booked this and paid deposits well in advance. I called my mum to say I was nearly there and she told me they were sat in a cafe up the road as we had been moved. I walked past Lily's tea rooms and it was all closed up, I was told by my mum to walk a bit further up and go in a cafe with a yellow sign. I asked the lady as I walked in what was going on and she said the lady who owns Lily's also owed this cafe and they booked too many people in so moved them to this cafe as it was bigger. I was absolutely disgusted. We booked Lily's as we wanted the homely, 'oldy worldy' type place, not a dark & dingy cafe. 2 main points to be made. 1/ We should have been told about this and been given the option to pull out. 2/ This should NEVER have happened as you know what capacity Lily's holds, nothing other than greed has let this happen, you were willing to overbook to pull more money in. I questioned these 2 points and I was told sorry but we didn't want to let anyone down. As I say it should never have been over booked. I was offered my money back, where was we supposed to go on Mother's Day on such short notice?! Yes we did get money knocked off the bill but unfortunately this was never going to make up for this greedy little stunt that was pulled today. I can only imagine it is under new management as today's experience was totally different to our other visits. Will never return.

Never been lily's tea room before a friend suggested it 1st time in and really enjoyed it granted only had a tea and scone and I'm not a lover of scones but really enjoyed this one nice and fresh enjoyed the old music decor and comfyness of the place was lovely staff very friendly beats any pub grub 100% will definitely be coming again :)

The staff are very pleasant and helpful, lovely pot of tea in a china pot and china cups, and the cheese on toast is amazing - none of this "rubbery" cheese - but lovely welsh rarebit with salad and veggie crisps - I really enjoy visiting it for lunch when I go into Ormskirk with friends.
