Levan restaurant is very good and the service is very friendly

Amazing staff, beautiful food, lush atmosphere and the wine was so good!! £155 for 7 sharing dishes and PLENTY of it 2 carafes of wine and 12.5% tip! Really reasonable, deffo recommend!

Nice enough place to eat and we had a good night (if I don't think about how much we spent). But the food was underwhelming to say the least. We had the chef's menu at £55 a head plus an additional course at another £10. Without the additional course - gnudi in a smoked cheese sauce - I'd have wanted to grab a kebab on the way home. And really the gnudi was by far the best thing we ate. The 'amuse bouche' of mushroom broth and chicken liver really packed a punch and raised hopes that the rest of the menu would match up to it. But the bream with blood orange was no more than pleasant and lacked impact. And the pork 'main' was tiny and again without much to say for itself. Nothing was bad, just lacking any great personality. The gnudi course did an awful lot of work on that menu, with a richness from the ricotta dumplings and smoked cheese sauce. The wine pairing was interesting enough but geared too much towards the unusually sharp or acidic. It cried out for at least one glass of something really full bodied and textured. I think if you laid out that menu on the table (minus the £10 gnudi), it wouldn't look or taste like a £55 meal. If something is lacking in quantity it has to speak loudly in terms of flavour or texture and this doesn't.

Cote de Beouf was cooked to perfection, and the potatoes with garlic sauce were divine

Had heard about this place ages ago and finally got to try it. The food overall was of a pretty high standard, especially for this part of London. Standouts for me were the smaller plates such as Comte fries, gnudi, radicchio salad. Larger dishes such as plaice, pork chop were solid but I wouldn’t say outstanding. I’m not generally a fan of the ‘sharing plate’ restaurant trend in London, my gripe is that elsewhere in Europe you can get great quality food for far less money and fuss whereas here it often just feels like an excuse to make customers pay over the odds for a meal. I have to concede that it worked reasonably well here, service was good and I enjoyed it for the most part. A nice experience although it was still a fairly expensive meal for what you got.

LOVING the Sunday menu. We had a friend from NYC visiting and Levan was the perfect spot for a special and relaxed lunch in Peckham. TBH we all immediately fell for the Moules & Frites, bolstered by a shared starter of the trademark Comte Fries. The service is friendly and super helpful. We’ve eaten at Levan a number of times, it’s always delicious, consistent and feels like a treat. Both the sharing and chef’s menus are great, however, this Sunday menu felt simple and fun - great for a short notice treat and meal out, if you can get a table!

WOW!! What a great restaurant, we visited early on a Saturday evening and were impressed with every plate of food. Our favourite was the pork main- it was magical! Great selection of wines! Friendly and helpful members of staff

UPDATE (photos are from 2y ago): Huge disappointment since they changed the chef last year - now extremely bland and basic food, with a sub-par service - not worth a visit. 2022: Excellent - we came from Central London to try this affordable 5 course set menu (for 52pp) and we weren't disappointed: the flavours were original and the balance was just right, which gives delicious plates! The portions were just right (compared to other pictures in reviews that show very small portions for previous set menus, so the quality/value might vary depending on the current set menu) and we felt like the price was really worth it given the quality of the ingredients. Service was good (we sat on the chef's counter which was very nice) and very laid back (no cutlery change etc), which allows for this gastronomic experience without the fuss of a Michelin-type service. Worth travelling to Peckham for !

Best Sunday steak and chips! I was at Flatiron the other day (and steak and chips is pretty much all they do) but Levan's was better! Service was immaculate too.

Didn’t quite live up to the hype for us. We had the chef’s menu for Valentine’s Day: hits - mushroom broth, red wine risotto, wine, misses - trout, mash potatoes with the pollock. For the price tag we wanted a bit more. We appreciated the excellent service but didn’t love the poor speakers and broken toilet door!

We had the chef’s tasting menu for Sunday lunch and the food was good but the service was chaotic. At one point, a waiter started explaining the dish then just walked away. At times, it felt like they couldn’t be bothered. I'd maybe come back for the food but I'm not in a rush given that the service was sloppy.

Some of the dishes were exceptional i.e. smoked trout with ponzu and coffee! But others were mediocre and lacking the flavour the price tag demanded. The cocktail was £13 but was 80% ice and was very poor otherwise. Found plastic (certainly seemed inedible, and was green) in choux dessert. God knows how much I consumed as I pulled it from my mouth. The price of the dish was taken from the bill, but only after I was put in the awkward situation of answering “would you like me to take it off the bill?” - made me feel like I was looking for a freebie. Also, please fix the door so it closes, it’s winter. Wouldn’t be so critical, it was ok, but the price was very high and so we expected better. It was a special occasion, but we left feeling deflated, and with the taste of plastic lingering in the mouth.

Third time visiting since 2022. The food is amazing. The menu is different every time we’ve come. Lovely vibe and service well done guys

Excellent and really buzzy restaurant. Highly recommended. Food and wine pairings all superb. Only piece of constructive feedback I'd have is that new dishes kept arriving before we'd finished the wine from the previous course so we ended up double parked. It might be worth asking to show down if it's possible, or taking more time than we must have done over the food!

Portion sizes are tiny, especially for the price. The food was well made and tasted good, but not special enough to justify a £50 two course meal that leaves you hungry.

We came here for our anniversary recently and enjoyed another absolutely delicious meal. We both went with a vegetarian version of the chef's menu which was fantastic - full of very original dishes and lovely 'extras'. Complemented with great service in a relaxed atmosphere, it really stands out for us as one of south london's best restaurants.

My partner and I had a fabulous lunch at Levan last Sunday (3rd November). The welcome was extremely warm and the staff had noted my request to sit on a high top table overlooking the kitchen (it's always fascinating!). Service was friendly and prompt and our meal - comte fries followed by the Sunday steak-frites special - was delicious. We mopped up every last drop of the parsley sauce and then munched on the very generous helpings of frites. My partner then had the lovage and yuzu sorbet which was exceptional; the chef then explained how they made it so smooth. We've been to Levan several times and have always had a superb experience and we will certainly be returning very soon. Definite recommend.

At first glance, when you enter the place, it seems like a cheap eatery, and the area and location aren’t the nicest. But the food is great.

Came here for the tasting menu, with the wine pairing. Sat at the chefs table and it was just the most delightful and special meal. The chef introduced each course, as well as sharing stories about why the wine was paired. The food was delicious, the wine interesting, and it felt like such an experience, could not recommend enough!

Superb food in a restaurant with a great buzz and atmosphere. We had the set menu, 'something fishy' and all was delicious. Especially the Sea Bream course. On a par with Michelin star restaurants.

Had really high expectations for Levan but it fell a little flat to be honest. We had the taster set menu and then a few additional items like the potatoes. The scallop noodle dish was delicious and I really enjoyed the sourdough bread! But some of the other dishes were a bit odd to be honest - turns out peaches and beans don’t go together! Quite a spenny experience but no regrets overall as it was interesting - glad I tried (probs wouldn’t go again)

We just spent our anniversary lunch and all I have to say is everything was perfect. I had the mussels and fries and my husband had the steak with fries. I appreciate that all the food even the bread was fresh and handmade. Thank you to all the lovely staff and especially the kitchen staff who prepared everything deliciously.

Absolutely perfect meal last night - we had the chef's menu with wine pairings, which came to about £100 total each. The comte fries, sweetbreads and short ribs were to die for. Wine pairings were delicious - perhaps more complex than we're used to - but interesting unique details shared by knowledgeable staff. Relaxed and comfortable small restaurant. Would visit again

Very interesting. Table booked for 8.00 but had to wait a short while outside (had the option of going for a drink next door), Asked whether we wanted still or sparkling water. request for still didn't arrive. Waited 10 mins asked whether we wanted some water - took the opportunity of ordering food and wine. Had to ask if we could have the wine after 10 mins in which nothing happened. Unlabelled bottle of "Temporanillo" was served as their house red which tasted fine. Starters were okay but staff very slow to clear remains and mains didn't arrive until 9.30. Frequently asked if everything was okay so far, which seemed weird as it patently wasn't. I had an allergic reaction to the Trout Watermelon "sauce" which has never happened before. Clearly not suitable for the older person as we felt transparent, Our younger friends were not so bothered. Quite dark.

Amazing evening - would 100% recommend! We did the wine pairing and every course was so delicious - the wines complemented each dish perfectly. Aurélien gave us the best service - he was so knowledgeable about the flavour profile of the wines and their histories which really enhanced the overall experience.

Nice place with an interesting but short menu. Liked, didn’t love. They had last minute availability outside but we were a bit forgotten out there. To be fair, they acknowledged this by knocking our drinks off the bill. Although slow, really friendly service. The sourdough was amazing. Beef short rib was delicious. A bit on the small side for a main. Fennel salad was really refreshing. We also had comte fries & cod beignets which were ok. Would definitely go back but aim to be inside on a quieter evening.

Love the wine, love the sun trap but the bread was so hard it was inedible and the food was really over salted. Disappointing!

I am also used to Michelin quality restaurants and thought the food was flawless. The duck was excellent some of the best I’ve had and we really loved the pigs head croquette. The wine list is complex and intricate but intensely rewarding. Would definitely dine here again. 10/10

I booked a table for a special occasion. When we arrived we were asked to wait outside for a while as they were very busy. No problem at all. After 30 minutes, there was no table ready nor had we been able to order a drink or similar, so we duly left. We then received an email which said: “I would like to invite you back for some dishes from our delicious menu and some drinks, on us, as an apology for the wait you’ve experienced. Please drop us a line when you find a suitable time to visit and I would be delighted to look after you.” We went back a couple of weeks later. We each ordered the chef’s menu, and shared a bottle of wine. At the end of the meal we were presented with a bill which equated to 80% of the full price.

Went to Levan for a dinner with my partner. The ambient was very cozy, nice surroundings and good music; The staff was careful to our needs and made us feel welcomed. The food is well presented and very tasty too; We choose the tasting menu, one of them vegetarian, and we have been surprised and satisfied at each and every course. Totally advised

My first time there last night with a friend. The service was excellent from the Bar to the Restaurant. The staff was very polite. Would recommend and would go back again.

Lovely place to have lunch / dinner. Food was looking wonderful and tasting great 👍🏼. Plenty of choices for drinks too. Overall a very very nice place to be. I also appreciate the open kitchen. Will definitely recommend!

I had a lovely bottle of Cava with my family. The food was not so good for me. The crab noodle starter was very salty and i was unable to taste the crab the comet Fries were not nice. I was told that the steak tartare was lovely even though it was not what was ordered. I do feel the whole meal was over priced.

Wonderful open kitchen, food is gorgeous, the roast beef with smoked plum and ponzu, the Risotto with puntarelle & taleggio to name just two, it was some of the best food we've ever eaten, there wasn't a single dish that wasn't exceptional, generous portions and wonderful service, we can't wait to return, please don't change anything you're doing!

Went for the chefs menu by the kitchen counter. The vibe was laid-back with each course well thought out and offered a complex yet down to earth flavours. The lamb for mains was melt in your mouth and had a nice balance of fat and meat, accompanied with a touch of anchovies and turnip three ways. Dessert was almost a winner with tarragon ice cream and rhubarb on top of fromage blanc, which added a cool herby addition to the meal. Personally I felt this dish was a tad too sweet for my liking. Shoutout to head chef Philip who made an effort to present each course (except the mains which was a shame) during peak hour. Great food, wine, service and company. Overall would recommend for the quality and price @ £59pp.

Bustling little restaurant with a great atmosphere - we sat next to the open kitchen so could watch all the food being made. Front of house were friendly and helpful, and gave my partner a birthday candle as we put birthday on the booking, which was a lovely touch. Highly recommend the comté fries!! Good gluten free options.

Me and my wife ordered 2 chefs menu with wine pairing. We were waiting too long for our food so we ordered 2 aperol spritz that arrived after a long time too. We received our first course the kohlrabi without the wine so we had to ask for it. A piece of bread, some gnocchi and both semolina from the pork’s dish were burnt. The selection of 3 cheeses looked poor and the brioche was overcooked and dry. The artichoke roulade was okish but the pastry was hard and dry and the Petit four was just 2 pancakes for both and with the icing extremely sweet (Petit one? ) . I was expecting to have high standard dishes for the price we spent: 247£. Definitely I won’t come back again and not recommend to anyone.

We love Levan and the last visit finally prompted us to write a review. The food is phenomenal and there are always some surprising touches – kumquat and pork fillet for example – that show that this a serious foodie place. Value is superb at £59 for a tasting menu and £39 for the wine pairing. Last, and by no means least, we were really well taken care of the MaîtreD, Aurélien, who has worked in Michelin starred restaurants but clearly much prefers the relaxed vibes of Levan. It's a loveable neighbourhood gem and to be visited repeatedly.

Such a horrible experience at Levan. The staff were so unbelievably rude. Our wine order was wrong, they brought us the wrong food order and mocked us when we suggested it was wrong only to correct it with no apology when they realised their mistake. Then they brought potatoes over that were burnt to a crisp compared to the non burnt ones at other tables. When we mentioned this to the waiter he agreed that they were burnt and to take them off the bill but that was it. No drink on the house, no apology, they just ignored us until we asked for the bill, which we then waited an age for. The food that wasn't burnt was average and overpriced, the staff are beyond rude. A hugely disappointing meal. Go to the gorgeous Italian over the road instead. I never leave bad reviews and have never complained about a restaurant experience before but my treatment at Levan was so appalling and completely ruined what should have been a special occasion.

Great food and wine, a bit disappointed we ordered the white Rioja which was recommended on the specials board, but they only had two glasses left… We had the chef’s menu… I cannot wait to come back!

This place is the bees knees! The wine selection is fantastic, the atmosphere is cozy but the music selection makes you want to chair dance whilst you scoff amazing small plates (not that small actually) that are packed with well curated flavours. The croque monsieur, the mussels with crisps, the ratatouille - all bangers 13/10. Would recommend, several thumbs up.

very good food and wine. however, two points. firstly, music was way too loud and thankfully someone turned it down later into the night. secondly, i’ve never been to a restaurant that charges you extra for bread to go with pate or dips. it’s just bloody mean and miserly and leaves a bad taste to split a dish in half and charge you for both components.

Love the food and the staff/service here. We have been here many times. The atmosphere this time around wasn’t great as we were sat by the window near the door which does not shut properly automatically so keeps being left open and people outside smoking which kept being blown in alongside the cold. Can’t fault everything else though.

It was £25 for a small chicken breast with some purée and one piece of broccoli. Food was lovely but not lovely enough to justify the price, in my opinion. Google has rated it ££ whereas it’s more like £££, so I guess we were expecting something different.

Honestly, one of the best restaurants in London. This is our third time at Levan and once again, the experience couldn't have been more perfect. Already looking forward to the next time. Quite frankly, we have to keep ourselves from going every time the menu changes. Because the food is excellent, the combination of ingredients is original, often unique but always works perfectly. The flavours are strong and decise, you don't have to look for them, they just kick in your mouth and it's an explosion, one flavour after the other and it's just so good. And the bread, homemade sourdough bread made by the Chef Philip Limpl himself. The best bread and butter, served warmed, the thick crust perfectly balancing the soft inside... we had to order another slice (only one, because we were ashamed to ask for more than one!). Levan also has an amazing list of natural wines. Service and atmosphere just complete the most relaxing evening, and set the stage to allow you to completely let go of everything else and purely enjoy everything that is going on in the room. Obviously looking forward to the opening of Bar Levan next door, we are sure it will be the perfect French style wine bar, offering a beautiful selection of natural wine accompanied by charcuterie, cheese boards and more, we have no doubt it will be an incredible success! First time visiting, been meaning to go for ages. We sat at the chefs table and were so looked after - especially by Rich, one of the chefs who told us how to make the perfect salad dressing and it was so lovely being able to chat with him before it got super busy. Food was delicious and experimental and exciting. They change the menu every 4 weeks

Our first time at Levan and we will absolutely be returning. The food was so delicious - we had the Chefs menu and it was *chefs kiss*! Would absolutely recommend having the wine pairing too. Each was the perfect match for each dish. The service is just exceptional. The team are so welcoming, friendly and really make you feel at home. Really lovely restaurant with a beautiful chilled out cosy vibe, and 10/10 service from friendly staff. Some of the dishes we ordered were fab, others didn’t quite hit the spot but we loved that they were seasonal and unlike anything we’d had before. Would absolutely return for another season.

Only a minute away from the station, Levan is a favourite restaurant of mine in Peckham and one I love recommending to my friends for dinner or date. Their changing menu is always exciting and the wine list is full of gems, particularly from the Jura region. Great service too!

Had a fantastic meal in leven definitely will return the food and cocktails were top of the range and staff very professional..can't wait to return well done team keep up the good work

Really mixed experience. The bread and coppa were great (but easy to replicate at home) and the Mushroom Orzo was 10/10. However we found the chicken and crab raviolo totally confused - the coffee jus and liver dumplings weren’t nice at all; we were partially comped for this dish with free Comte fries (1/4 of the price)… The wine was nice, and the atmosphere and staff were great. A shame really, wanted to like this place more, particularly on a birthday visit.

We’ve been here a few times and it just keeps getting better. Staff were very accommodating of our puppy and our pram, looking after us all night and being super charming. Food was faultless (we literally had the whole menu) and the wine was great (Jura speciality including Vin Jaune by the glass). Highly recommend!

Not only is the food boring and wildly overpriced, some of it was just simply bad. It is also worth bringing to attention that the owners of this place do not treat their staff well, just look at what happened with the restaurant next door and salon in Brixton, very disappointing to see an independent business operate with such disregard for their communities and the human beings that are putting money in their pockets. To be honest I feel sympathy for the serving staff that do their best here having to try to be enthusiastic about this rubbish
