Bad attitude of staff. Lied to about not having any beer then served everyone else it. Food has gone down hill from the last time we went. We will not be returning

Whilst we do not visit Kingston-Upon-Hull that often, when we have pre pandemic we’ve enjoyed amazing food and drinks in this place. Dropped in on a a wet Thursday for a lunch and drinks with extended family, not particularly busy and went in to check if they allowed dogs (which they don’t). Whilst we believe this is a massive missed opportunity for revenue, we can fully appreciate/respect the owners/managers decision. What we can not accept is the way we were spoken to by the waitress in answering our very polite question. The dogs were outside and we had (out of respect) gone in to check if they were dog friendly, why the horrid attitude?

though it was teatime on a damp Thursday with just a dozen covers in the restaurant,nothing was to much trouble for the staff or manager the food was excellent and plentiful.we both stared with haddock goujons 3 large pieces of fresh fish in a light batter and salad.for mains my wife had beef stroganoff with rice chips and salad I had beef goulash with rice chips salad and it came with a pancake both full of flavour and very filling I recommend this restaurant for been reasonably priced for good food in a smart building with great ambiance.

We found this little gem of a place on google. We were just looking for somewhere for a quick meal before heading to a comedy club and this did not disappoint! The food was lovely and the lemon meringue sundae was amazing! The staff were very polite and efficient. This is now our top choice when eating out in Hull.

Another visit to Leonardo's. We sat outside, lovely weather,.our dogs were made welcome as well. Great food, quick service and reasonably priced. Always look forward to our visit to Leonardo's when visiting Hull.

We went to Leonardos last week for the first time, there were 6 of us & we had the most excellent experience! We were greeted by Lee & his team, who were all brilliant from start to finish.We sat outside to eat & drink, their seating area was right beside the water, it was clean, tidy & has a really nice atmosphere about it. The inside of the restaurant was also clean & tidy, with a really nice atmosphere also. The decor inside was lovely, & very welcoming, with great attention to detail & the facilities were spotless.The bar area is well stocked, lots of choice & the kind of bar you'd want to sit at & relax, fantastic! The whole restaurant & outside seating area was fully Covid secure & felt safe, very important in these times we're all living in at the moment.The teas, coffees, soft drinks & alcohol that we all had between us were tasty, well kept & well presented . The menus were full of variety for different requirements & tastes, & Lee & his team were so helpful with everything on the menus. The food arrived all at the same time, fresh as you can get, hot (if hot food ordered!), well presented & was simply delicious! We had a wide variety between the 6 of us, & everything was perfect! In short, our first experience of Leonardos was absolutely brilliant & we can't wait to book in again! Thank you to Lee, Julie & all the team for looking after us all so well, we'll definitely be coming back!

My wife and I had a fantastic meal today at Leonardo's. We both chose the porterhouse steak from the specials menu. The meal was cooked to perfection and the service we received was very good. Many thanks to you all.

This restaurant used to be without doubt one of my favorites, but our meal today was below average! The posh fish finger wrap was wet and dripping in grease and the portion size of chips and coleslaw was tiny! Really disappointed!

The best casual dining venue by far! Food is delicious and it is an ideal spot for a bit of people watching. So glad they have reopened I could not recommend this place more highly

Was slightly hesitant prior to coming as they weren’t taking table bookings but we visited for lunch on eat out to help out and got a table no problem. Staff very friendly and the food served quickly and really tasty. The sandwiches were full of filling and very fresh. Loved that they were served with chips instead of crisps too. We will definitely return!

First time visiting and would recommend, had lunch from the main course plenty of options and good variations, would come back based on good food and friendly staff.

We went last night at tea time, no booking, the place was packed, we were very lucky to get the last unreserved table! All staff were very polite and considering the busy ness they looked after us well. We ordered 3 meals, when my meal came it wasn't what I'd ordered, the waitress was very apologetic, I was happy to accept the meal regardless and it was delicious. The manager came over and apologised and checked i was ok to take the meal and offered to not charge me which wasn't necessary but a nice touch. Our food was delicious, service was great and staff fabulous. Cannot recommend this place enough, thank you all for making our visit very pleasurable.

Went in this place today as we just wanted a drink mid shopping. Told it was table service only and only 2 of us but the place was practically empty. Just after a party of 9 walked in only to be turned away by staff as there was nowhere to seat them. Must have been 20+ empty tables. Owners must be raking it in to turn down business like that.

Sometimes find it difficult to know where to eat in Hull city centre that is good food & value for money. Our 2 nd group visit to Leonardo’s was another success. We book for the last booking at 7pm, which usually means for a quiet crowd enjoying their meal. Only disappointment for me was the Stroganoff was finished so had to quickly chose an alternative, it would have been helpful to be told before choices were made. The serving staff are very attentive & pleasant.

Very cold windy day but headed to Leonardos for an early evening meal. Timed it right . Ordered drinks and food and service was excellent. We had the chilli wraps with chips. Very tasty and the chips are different to the other cafes . Really enjoyed it . Nice staff.

Located in the very small bit of trendy eateries in Hull City Centre (for cosmopolitan eating go to Princes Avenue/Newland Avenue) this is by a dock. Naturally being winter we ate in but in summer dockside dining within a glazed area is a very pleasant experience. Service is quick and efficient, food is largely standard menu for UK and none the worse for that. The fish and chips here are excellent, good sized fish and crisp chips. House Merlot is agreeable.

On an first time visit to Hull we decided to go for an evening stroll along the city's quayside before eating. First impression through the windows were encouraging. The greeting by the staff also even if they advised up that the kitchen was taking last orders shortly. We ordered 2 beef lasagne's served with sliced garlic bread and a side salad. Dessert biscotti cheesecake and a chocolate brownie sundae completed our meal. The service and meal was very, very good and we would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Excellent porterhouse steak cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the baked fish and was equally satisfied.

Love this place. You know if you have to book, it’s popular, and that’s usually for a good reason. The owner is a “ character” he is proud of his reputation, and deservedly so.

I had the chicken burger, it was cooked well, but absolutely no taste whatsoever, it was just plopped on a basic bap and I had to cover it with salt, pepper and sweet chilli sauce to take away the blandness of it. Coleslaw mainly raw onions. Chips tasty. Waitress was pleasant though. I wont eat there again unless food changes. The chef needs to put some thought into how to flavour a chicken breast and how to present it on a plate and not with just a plain bap as well. Shame as could be lovely venue.

Visiting son in Hull and decided to visit Leonardos again. Once again we were not disappointed, we had the fish and chips and lasagne...oh my so delicious. Service was quick, staff friendly and professional. Thanks once again for a wonderful meal.

Read the TripAdvisor reviews and decided to check this restaurant out for a Saturday night meal on the Saturday afternoon .We were shown around the restaurant and given menus to look at and booked a table for that night.The service when we arrived was excellent and attentive by a waitress who was well versed in what she was doing and explained any parts of the menu when asked.Our food arrived and was all we had hoped for …...this seemed to us a well practised establised restaurant in a nice area of Hull and would thoroughly recommend.

We first visited Leonardo's many years ago as we happened to be passing, and we were quite impressed. Having returned a couple of times since, we're pleased to find that they still serve up good quality meals. All the ingredients seemed fresh, especially the fish and the salad (no soggy leaves!) and the portions were quite good. Good use of herbs/seasoning too. They're also pretty good for gluten-free options, with probably more choice than average as they're able to adapt some non-GF dishes. It's not exactly cheap, but few places are these days. Staff were friendly. There was a slight hiccup over the bill, but that was soon resolved, and that aside, we'd be happy to eat there again.

Bit of an odd place, people rave about it but after visiting not sure why. Casual clothed bouncer on the door drinking a pint welcoming people in asking why they are visiting. Decor is very dated. Seated at a table with no menus, no offer of a menu by a waitress more interested in standing at the bar with the rest of staff. Eventually asked what we wanted to order, still no menu offered until this point. Menu seemed very expensive for the food offered. Portion sizes looked huge though, but not a good thing. The menu needs freshening up as its full of favorites from the past. BBQ sauce Belly Pork? Very cheap to make, sounds awful, £13/14. (saw a plate served and it looked really dry and not at all what belly pork should be) Burger was considered but looked store bought. After being left with the menu 15 minutes ordered tortellini and a Fish and chips.

We have been to Leonard's several times - it is a favourite place with some family members (who like to visit the same place everytime for their celebrations!!). I prefer somewhere new each time...

If we are doing a bit of shopping and fancy lunch we tend to drop into Leonardo's. It can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, but it's certainly popular. I can recommend the fish and chips, in fact the chips are really tasty. Always worth a visit.

We visit Leonardos regularly & always have a great meal. Staff are super friendly and accommodating and the food is quality. Great value for money, too. We will continue to support this excellent local business!

We eat here a few times and don't normally have any issues but this Sunday was a little disappointing.

Popped in for lunch yesterday, not been here in years but I was very happy with the quality of the food, all 4 of us got the burger with different variations, two got cheese, one got bacon and the other got chilli, we all said that the burger was really tasty and would 100% return again in the near future, competitive prices as well

The staff are friendly and helpful, you're never waiting more than 30 minutes for your food. The outside dinning is fantastic my favourite. The food is delicious.

I was about to leave a review about my visit with my family only to read some of the sad, unprofessional and very personal comments being left. Leonardo's is a very good city centre Bistro which is sometimes busy but in the 15-20 times I have eaten there no-one has ever been rude, left me waiting or ignored me. I have delighted in many of their meals (usually burger - sorry). I think the cooking is excellent, certainly NOT pub grub. We was even accommodated xmas week without booking (lucky).

Leonardos is a great cafe to have a quick bite to eat or coffee or lunch. The staff are lovely and very warm people. The vegetarian wrap was superb and was full of flavour. I definitely recommend going there for food and drinks. The option for sitting outside is superb especially when the weather is sunny and beautiful. It has wind guards so you can enjoy the weather without being blown off the seats.

Actually visited twice this weekend, once just for a quick drink while out shopping Saturday), the other for breakfast Sunday as son took hubby out for Father's day. As normal staff are welcoming...only Julie serving Sunday always has a smile and friendly personality. Food was fantastic, good value for money.

Was in Hull visiting my son and wanted to go out for lunch (had 4 dogs with me) we decided to go to Leonardos as it had a seating area outside and dogs were accepted. Ladies came out to serve us, were very helpful. Our lunch was wonderful, filled our stomachs nicely. Dogs were also treated to some sausages...yum yum. Thank you to all the staff, always made welcome and the dogs got spoilt as well.

Was really looking forward to lunch at Leonardos today. We were greeted by a lovely man who told us we were a little too early for lunch but they were still doing breakfasts. We decided to wait for lunch to start. The bar man/waiter was very attentive and friendly. We ordered sandwiches with chunky chips. The sandwiches and coleslaw were beautiful. We’ve eaten at leonardos plenty of times although not for a while and we’re so disappointed that in place of homemade chunky chips we were served frozen thin, curved chips. Please go back to proper chips. I would still go back but avoid the chips. I would recommend Leonardos for a lovely lunch in a great location with super lovely staff.

When in hull i struggle to find any restaurant the floats my boat so i return to an old favourite Leonard’s.close to the center you are sure of a nice welcome.the food is plentiful and well cooked with just enough variation on the menu .good value for the quality ,give it a go .

My wife and I recently visited this restaurant one lunchtime and we were not disappointed. Situated on the side of Princes Quay dock facing the Princes Quay Shopping Centre it provides comfortable indoor seating and a lovely outside seating area. The staff are very friendly and efficient and the food was well cooked and very tasty. The prices are very reasonable (bottle of red wine £17.95, beef goulash £13.95, prawn and crayfish salad £10.95) and we definitely recommend this restaurant.

Arrived in Hull early evening and was wanting a quick drink whilst waiting for a friend. Arrived at Leonardos and was greeted by a warm welcome, owner came over and shook my hand, staff were very happy and friendly. Quick service.

On entering was made to feel really welcome staff were very attentive and food was delicious , shall definitely return

Every time I come to hull I have to go to leonardos, sitting outside by the river on a sunny day is amazing ! The food is spot on. Service outstanding. Everything is just perfect. Never change !

Often visit on a lunchtime when on my break at work. Food always great and very fast (which is appreciated when on a tight timescale). Service is good. Can’t fault it.

On Saturday April 13th I went in with my friend . We asked for a table for 4 people as our 2 other friends would be joining us shortly . And we would have coffee and then when they arrived we would have lunch . The young woman was unpleasant .and said we could not have a table as they were busy and we could sit at the bar and have coffee and when our 2 other friends arrived We could be seated at a table if there was one . I said it doesn’t look busy to me ! She said oh it is ! Lots of empty tables . There were empty tables near the window that would have seated 4 people .

We love coming here every Weekend for Lunch but this was a Birthday Treat (For Me). As usual everything was perfect from the warm friendly Welcome to the perfectly cooked Meals. Every Visit has been perfect in every way...…….

I don’t live in nearby Beverley anymore but when I did, we always had our morning coffee lunch time snacks in here. We just loved the place. The food was always tasty and well presented. The staff were attentive and efficient you may have to wait a while as they are always busy but it’s worth waiting for.

I've been to Leonardos a few times and always enjoy it. This time, a group of us called in for a quick meal before the cinema after work, and it was very good. The portions are always generous and the service was great. We will be back!

OMG Never again. We have been to Leonardos many many times over the years. Both evenings and afternoons, however this bistro must have changed management as the service and atmosphere is just utterly rubbish, we went yesterday 5 of us for a birthday treat, my sister in law simply ask if the chef could possibly cook an omelette as she didn’t feel too good. At the time we went there was only two other people in the restaurant so it wasn’t a big ask! The waiter said he didn’t think it possible but he ask the chef who was clearly stood doing nothing in the kitchen ( we could see this as the kitchen is visible). A debate was clearly discussed and the answer was no. We accepted this decision and my sister in law said Ok, perhaps a piece of toast then just so that she would be eating something whilst we all tucked into something more substantial. The answer to that request was a NO. How absolutely bad is that, staff apologising because they cannot bring an omelette or a piece of toast. We had been in there the week before again 5 of us and spent just over 130 pounds but this time it wasn’t going to happen, we all walked out and went elsewhere, they have now lost good customers and we will hopefully see new owners take over and do a better job where the customer service is something of importance. A note to the chef to make an omelette you simply whisk up a couple of eggs season with salt and pepper and fry in a little butter. Simples.

I've been to Leonardos once, and will never go again. I ordered a starter and main dishes. Both were avarage in price, but quality wise well below what one can expect. Rather tasteless, quickly prepared (sauce from a can), uninspired (the same 3 vegetables on the side of the starter and main dish!).

Starters were really good BUT the mains were a total disappointment! My partner had the steak burger which resembled that of a £1.50 burger van style burger!! I had the steak stroganoff which was very very sour! The portions were gigantic! Maybe quality over quantity next time! £45.00 not well spent!

Had he steak noodle dish that is pictured by a few on here - it was just like it looks! Quite a varied menu for a town bar. Service was good.

This place has lovely outside seating area, for those sunny, balmy days! Lovely menu, generous salads for me, and chilled glass of wine or two. Great service and good location. Reasonable prices...

We had a couple of hours to kill so thought we would pop in for lunch just after mid day. Nearly all tgd tables were taken, it was a graduation day, so we were lucky. Just had a light lunch but very acceptable. Staff and ambience super as always. Tend to visit every few weeks. Never let's you down

After visiting another place my daughter recommended Leonardos. After walking by we decided to try it. After looking at the menu there did not appear much for me. I decided to have the porterhouse steak which was more expensive than I am used to. My wife and daughter had a tortellini and a lasagna. We had drinks which were fine as was the meal, all were cooked to perfection and worth the payment. I will visit again..

Me and my brother decided to grab some food and head out for a few drinks. We decided to try Leonardos and we weren’t disappointed! I opted for the stir fry with a rump topper and the rump was perfectly cooked. The stir fry was great and each component blended together perfectly. The portion size was rather large but well worth the money spent. The service was very good and the location in the city centre was also very good.

Visited today with a friend for breakfast before work. We were greeted by the very friendly staff and show to our table. We both got a full English and was not disappointed, plenty of what you expect on a breakfast all cooked to perfection and for only £7.95 each. I will definitely be going again with the family.

We were attending a concert at City Hall so the location was perfect. Leonardos had been recommended and did not disappoint! The food and service were excellent, the menu choice was smallish but every meal we saw come out looked good! The place was packed, always a good sign!

This cafe / bar is our 'go to' whenever we book to see things at the nearby Hull City Hall. We didn't book so arrived just after 5.00pm and got a table , soon after it did get busy with a lot of people who had booked .

Visited July, August and November. Great value, great portions and great food. Not many places open late in town, but this fits the bill with friendly staff.

We came here for lunch on Saturday without making a reservation and we were very lucky to get in, as it was so busy. However, we had a friendly welcome and were given a nice quiet table at the back.

Went Leonardo's last night for the 1st time and what a fantastic place, we hadn't booked a table in advance but that was no problem to the charming guy (foo fighters t shirt)at front off house we were quickly seated and drinks ordered, I had the porterhouse steak and was cooked to perfection, the service was excellent all through our meal will definitely be going back in the very near future.thanks tony and Trina

Very friendly place. Excellent customer serice and food was served and cooked to a very high standard. It was lovely to be served by Lee he is a excellent host and a credit to his restaurant. We will return.

Contacted Leonardos previous to writing this review, so they get one star due to not being decent enough to even apologise or reply. Me, my friend and her little one year old specifically walked across town late morning to go to Leonardos, we entered into the near empty bistro to be guided to the seats in the front window, it was quite a squeeze with the pram and adding a high chair at the end of the table which seemed silly as there was plenty of other seating with much more space. We ordered, the food was good. We were about a third through and another couple came in with a little one, again despite the empty restaurant they were seated on the table next to us. This meant that for them to get in we had to interrupt our meals, move the high chair, our one year old, and the pram had to be taken away out to the back by a member of staff, it was embarrassing for both us and the couple. The couple had requested a high chair but there wasn't enough room between the two tables for two high chairs so they settled with letting their toddler stand on the dining chair. We returned to our then cold food but with the fuss our little one was unsettled and wouldn't eat any more, which was such a shame as he was sat good as gold beforehand. We left the cold food and requested the bill. There were numerous other problems so in all the experience horrible, we felt pushed in the corner as undesirables because we had a young child.

Called in for lunch and had mushroom stroganoff. It was wonderful. Not too creamy. Some great choices on menu. Efficient and friendly staff.

Been a couple of times now here for lunch and the food had been nice and the staff very friendly. I wouldn’t eat here in an evening but for lunch it’s nice.

Leonard’s is very good a very nice place more of a restaurant then a bar the only people there were eating but a very nice place to eat with a good menu selection to choose from , the staff were very friendly and helpful and spotlessly clean will certainly be calling again

Was in town for a date night had planned to go to another place for dinner but when we arrived there the place was noisy, had horrible atmosphere so we decided to give it a miss and walk towards the marina. Passing by Leonardos we looked in loved the look of the place. Thought we would enquire to see if they had a table and to our surprise they did. I ordered the belly pork which was delicious my partner had the steak which again was really. Place had great atmosphere, great service and amazing food. Will definitely be returning again.

Went on Saturday,quite regulars now,great staff,always great food,try the ham&chorizo; wraps, my favourite, also great mains,sandwiches, best to book especially Saturdays,Sunday's,staff always knowledgeable, smallish kitchen,don't know how they continue to turn out great food,the owner,Lee keeps a tight ship.all round great venue

I was here as a part of our business get-together over drinks and dinner. The service is a bit delayed, nevertheless the food and ambience is great. It is a relaxed bistro right opp to Prince's Dock. It's always a good idea to ring them up for a table reservation in case you want to avoid the waiting time.

Came across this restaurant by chance, used to go here years ago when it was a pub.

Called in on Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. Good choice of home cooked dishes on the menu. Can recommend the beef stroganoff, lasagna and Pinot Grigio. Good size portion and not too expensive. Restaurant clean and seating comfortable, will certainly revisit.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the qulaity of the food when we called at this place by chance. Very reasonable too! The service was excellent and all the staff very personable. Will definately call again.

We ate here Saturday evening - a small family gathering for my sisters hen party. Food was excellent! Every one of us loved the food - wide range of choice - and it was cooked (including enormous steaks) to perfection. Service was superb. Just right balance, despite being busy. Great buzzy vibe. The family are looking forward to returning. Thanks to all the staff and chefs.

We have been going here for a few years now and we have always enjoy it. It’s always busy, The staff are friendly and helpful. We ordered a steak burger and chips, the same thing we order every time. The burger was good as always but the chips were different this time and not nearly as nice, I found them quite oily so I was pretty disappointed. Such a shame as we have always liked it here.

Excellent atmosphere. Now more of a restaurant than a pub. Good range of home cooked foods. Portions are big so go careful when ordering a starter or if you like a sweet. Had the stroganoff which was very tasty and contained plenty of meat. Washed it down with a pint of Black Sheep. Disappointed there was no coffee available.

Been several times over the past year and it is always excellent. Nice big portions and really tasty food. The steak is beautiful without a trace of fat on it, the belly pork is wonderful, stroganoff is tasty and the burgers are nice and juicy. Really can’t knock this place or recommend it highly enough.

As a Group of 5 friends we meet at least once a month to catch up and socialise our favourite place to do this is Leonardos

Excellent location on the east side of Princes Quay where you can eat indoors or outside. Service was quick and friendly and we had the soup of the day which was ideal as we were dining in the evening at a family function. The menu is comprehensive and the atmosphere is in strong Hull tradition!

We called in for lunch as it was handy whilst in town. The service remains excellent with friendly and helpful staff. The food remains first class and I always enjoy eating here. I can highly recommend this place.

We visit Leonardo's on a regular basis and the very good quality of the food and service never changes. Throughout this warm Summer we have spent lunchtimes in the sun, drinking cool beer and eating good food.We regularly have the fish-finger wraps and the chips are at the highest level we have had in Eats Yorkshire. Food and drinks are very reasonably priced.

Had leaving party lunch excellent choice on menu lovely hot tasty food very efficient friendly staff. Also has xmas work lunches there well worth the money.

Mixed messages from Leonardo’s; they advertise a children’s menu in the window, but there is no indication that children can only eat before 6:30 until you go inside. As we were rebuffed we cannot comment on the food or service. The person rebuffing us did so perfectly pleasantly, but rare these days to be turned away from eating with a child. Papa’s fish and chips round the corner looked smarter but had no restrictions on children enjoying their restaurant, were very welcoming and served lovely food.

I'll start by saying, I work in Hull but I dont finish until late so by the time I'm finished, washed and changed I'm always too late for this place during the week!

In the 90s it was very usual to walk into a pub and discover that the only vegetarian option on the menu was lasagne.

We used to really like this place, but sadly it seems to have lost its sparkle. The porterhouse steak was still really good, but my chicken sizzler went cold very quickly. Staff not as attentive as they used to be.

We stopped here for lunch as we walked around the area. Both of our meal were good and very large portions of both fish and chips. Service was good and made for a very nice quick lunch stop while touring.

Met a few friends last week for a pint and light snack. Went for the haddock goujons and salad. Wasn't disappointed when it arrived, fish was so fresh with great light batter and lovely fresh salad. Staff were great as we were sat by the water. Great afternoon spent there thanks.

I came her with a colleague on a business trip to Hull and checking out a couple of other places prior we decided to eat here. I opted for my marker dish of the Gammon which was OK but nothing special, It just tasted and felt like a "cheap eats" chain restaurant and nothing else, the staff were OK and very average and not engaging at al. It did make me laugh when we walked in on a Tuesday evening at 7pm and asked. Are you serving food as it was so quiet and the member of staff had to turn and ask her collegue if they were serving food tonight.. you think she would know. Having aid that I would eat here again as there are a lot worse places in Hull.

great food with lovely staff, ive eaten outdoor and inside both fab. great place to eat if hot sunny day with great outdoor area.

This bistro has a reasonably varied menu in a pleasant location. We had a very nice lunch here. The staff were friendly and the food was good.

I decided to eat at leonardo's following tripadvisor reviews. I was in town for work so I sat alone at a table. Had a great dinner and a good, friendly conversation about motorbikes and motorbike routes in italy. It made me feel less alone: this dinner was a total different one from the dinners abroad and alone I am used to!

About 20 of us met here for a surprise birthday meal for a special young man.s 18th. As we were a large group all the mealls were pre ordered. I had fish and chips, and it was delicious, lovely crispy batter. This was followed by a huge ice cream sundae, again this was scrumptious. The service was excellent, and the staff were very helpful. I'll certainly go back again with my husband.
