Le Pot De Terre in Haringey

Perfect date night meal! Scallops and tuna carpaccio, followed by duck and poussin - French with a Caribbean twist. Fab

The food here is fantastic and fairly affordable for the high quality meal. They have clearly learnt a lot from the eat out to help out scheme, when the service was not as good. But we have returned since and everything has been fantastic, the service spot on, the food as delish and fresh as ever. A must try if your in the area. Highly recommend

Le Pot de Terre should be a great addition to Hornsey High Street. The set price menu, its location and its independence are all reasons I want it to be a success. I wish I could recommend it to locals. Unfortunately, I can’t. The food I ate was average - not fantastic, but certainly not bad enough to complain about. However, it was the chef’s treatment of his staff which ruined our evening. The restaurant was clearly busy and clearly understaffed in the kitchen and at the front of house. We waited an hour for each course - it seemed like there just wasn’t any management of the restaurant at all. The waitresses were charming and doing their best with limited resources - it was hardly their fault that the food was coming out so late. The chef was shouting and swearing at his staff, as the previous reviewer mentioned. The restaurant went silent and it made for a very distressing atmosphere. It felt like the restaurant was a vanity project for the chef more than a place for other people to enjoy a meal. A restaurant experience is about much more than just the food - even if the food had been Michelin quality it would have ruined our evening. I am afraid to say I won’t be back - there are plenty of other good independent restaurants who treat their staff well in the local area. I hope the staff are ok and go on to have happier jobs soon. I also hope the chef realises that an open kitchen isn’t the best layout for someone with a serious attitude problem...

This was my second visit. Last time i really enjoyed it, despite the disorganisation, partly because the food was so good. We came again as it was on the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. This time the food was poor (two fish dishes were really underdone) and the advertised heritage tomatoes were just regular cherry tomatoes. It was also chaotic in other ways that have previously felt a little charming. What was disturbing was the stressful atmosphere created by the chef. There was banging in the kitchen, lots of muttering under his breath and i heard him use the f word at least twice towards the waitresses. The waitresses were lovely and doing their best to maintain professionalism and customer care in what felt like quite an intimidating environment. The service was not slick but i don't blame the waitresses for that. It is clearly a systemic problem with how this place is run and managed. I gave it a second try, but i have gone from wanting it to thrive to being quite concerned about the treatment of the staff at the restaurant.

We were so pleased to see Le Pot de Terre back open. The food is outstanding - delicious and clever with flavours. We had a lovely, relaxed meal and hugely enjoyed the occasion.

we ordered in advance. Nonetheless it took over an hour for our starters to come out. My soup was OK, other starters looked better.I was struck by the way the different starters were all garnished with the same parsnip crisp, which was a bit odd. Another long wait for mains. Again, some of the dishes were great but others much less so. My bass was alright, the steaks looked excellent, the vegetarian dish was really poor. Pet peeve: my dish was served on a cold plate, so by the time I'd got rid of the bones it was cold. Another long wait for desserts. By the time we were done we'd spent nearly 4 hours and about 45 quid each. Think they've got some chef skills but not enough staff or capability to get the covers done.

I had the best steak I've eaten in years at Pot de Terre. It was really thick and deliciously cooked. The tuna starter was also exceptional, generously portioned, with imaginative accompaniment. Thinking about it, the cheesecake was also one of the best I've had in a while too. So exceptionally good food at this price point, a nice ambience to the place too. I will definitely return, and am very keen to see this place thrive. There is work to be done to make the service a bit smoother. The staff were friendly and pleasant but it felt a little bit disorganised, and as a result, slower than it could have been (though i was enjoying the company so that didn't matter to me).

The chef is a perfectionist and clearly takes pride in high standards - the food is artistically and beautifully presented and it tastes as good as it looks. Would definitely encourage everyone to support this high quality local restaurant, it's perfect for a leisurely evening with friends.

I have been to Le Pot De Terre a few times now. The food has always been delicious and interesting, love the relaxed atmosphere and music. Friendly staff and good value.

Lovely food owner was charming, food was on point and will definitely go again, we were the only one's there for a Friday night pity ,lovely little local restaurant more locals should support what's on their doorstep.

We went with friends took two hours for mains, some were cold but they reheated. Not enough staff. Limited wine list, slow and patchy at best. I think there are three people to run the restaurant, two cooks and one server, not enough in my opinion. Wasn’t asked for deserts!

Excellent and interesting food provided by a chef who is both passionate and knowledgeable about his art and meticulous in preparing his dishes. As mentioned in some of the other reviews, until this (relatively new) restaurant has built a regular clientele (which will undoubtedly happen if word gets round), the owner/chef has to do much of the work himself (although on busier nights when I have been there, there have been serving staff on hand). I am really hoping that word will spread, as this is the most innovative restaurant the area has seen in many years and it would be verging on criminal were it to relocate due to lack of local awareness!

There is so much to praise and many aspects would have been 4/5 stars. The room is pleasant, spacious, light and cool. We were seated (as the only customers all evening) in a large booth. The music was pleasant and at a good volume for talking. There was only the chef on duty and he did all the serving and the cooking. He was attentive and pleasant to us. The food was beautifully presented and the menu had unusual fusions. Everything we ate was well cooked and extremely nice (some of the flavours jarred, but not in an unpleasant way - more interesting: sweet/sour/salty, etc.). It was good value - total bill was around £66 for two including wine and dessert (for one). The service was slow and I can't imagine how the chef would have coped with even one more takeout order or customer. There was bashing, clanging, sighing, slamming and other signs of stress from the open kitchen.It became quite distracting and we were really quite worried for him. He looked exhausted and distressed in turn. He only had one or two white wines (which he explained with charm) and warned me the ice cream may have run out. In the end it was available. I don't know if this is a new business and he'll get into his stride and i understand that more staff in an empty restaurant would be a financial drain. But I hope he gets some support soon as he is obviously passionate and talented. I really wish this restaurant well. But go in relaxed mood when you have plenty of time on hand (for now at least).

We had the most amazing dinner here the other night, the menu is different and the food tastes incredible. One of those meals you won't forget, and for all the right reasons!! We went on a Friday night, and it wasn't that busy, but I imagine that will change soon when word gets out. The food is cooked so very well, and the flavours are exciting. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious food prepared to a very high standard by a super friendly chef/owner. The modern cuisine with Caribbean influence is a refreshing change from all the other restaurants nearby. Will definitely be visiting again!
