Le Mistral in Derbyshire Dales

Superb range of French cuisine on offer, including drinks. Opted for the blackpudding on french bread with salad starter, then the salmon fish ckes with fries as main - delicious! Along with a glass of Belgian beer, Verdett - perfect. Service was excellent and friendly, making us feel very welcome and not rushed. Situated in the tiwn centre with rooms full of French style decor: at times it felt as though we were actually there - it was the rain that gave it away! Fully recommend it. Particularly with the Prix Fix - set price lunch: 2 courses for £17.95 - bargain!

Bloody awful 😖 venue was lovely but it was a real let down. Got shown to our table downstairs which was lovely. Glasses on table but no offer of water and unlit candle. Not really bothered at all about that. Ordered food and asked for some bread and butter to start. This came but no plates to eat it off. Mains came. I had lamb with chanterelle carrots, green beans and dalphinoiuse potatoes. Em had confit duck and same potatoes. Well the carrots were like rubber coated mush and the potatoes were foul. Tasted like compost heap and a lovely grey colour. Waitress came and asked how we were so we told her. She was apologetic and went off to the chef. She came back and said we could have done fresh. Didn't take our plates away. Returned with much better and walked off. Stopped, came back and told us she would charge us for the edible food! Sad as we don't get to go out much together 😕

Really enjoyable evening. Lovely ambience with the place buzzing with full tables. Great service from the young efficient staff and excellent food.

We have eaten at Le Mistral many times at breakfast, lunch and evenings and the food is always superb. There is always a good choice of gluten free options which is a bonus as my wife is coeliac, and they could not be more helpful. The staff are always friendly and the place has a great comfortable atmosphere about it during the day, with a more romantic atmosphere especially downstairs in the evenings. The chef here excels. His French Onion soup is absolutely gorgeous and his croissants (which he actually makes himself) are the best I have tasted outside France. Don’t expect fast food as the food is cooked from fresh, and it’s worth waiting an extra couple of minutes for quality French food. I am a little reluctant to recommend restaurants because someone else goes and they are disenchanted. However, I have no hesitation in recommending Wirksworth’s gem , Le Mistral. You will not be disappointed.

We dined here last year and loved it… we dined here on Sunday evening for my birthday, we won’t be returning. Overpriced starters for what was served up to us, the black pudding bruschetta on the special board was a joke, bread, ketchup and a chunk of black pudding not good at all. I had pate that was basic and again over priced. Mains were just okay, desserts were to be fair very good. It’s a shame it used to be brilliant!

My girlfriend and I stayed just outside Wirksworth for one night. Having trawled through reviews on TripAdvisor we decided to give it a go despite some negative reviews! All I can say is we were glad we gave it a go! The service was fantastic and very attentive without being overly Intrusive. The food was amazing and incredibly tasty.....probably one of the best tasting main courses my girlfriend and I have had and wasn't trying to be pretentious. Just tasty, rustic french cuisine. I highly recommend trying this restaurant!!

Poor food. Very disappointing meal. Soggy haddock and oily uninspiring veg. Tasteless mussels with one of the blandest sauces I’ve ever tasted. Good service from staff but sadly it stops there. Full price food overpriced.

We visited this venue as a group of friends and were pleasantly surprised to find an alternative to Bistro Pierre’s chain restaurant French menu. While a small place it has a cosy feeling and the decor helps to set the Parisian mood. Will definitely visit again for a special occasion.

A few weeks ago, we came in here for a very simple lunch. We ordered paté and a soup. There were 2 other people in the restaurant. This simple order took 45 minutes to arrive. The paté was served with a stingy portion of bread and the soup was very average. Neither was worth the price tag. We were ready to give the place another try, but there was no improvement on our last visit. What a shame. This sort of service is not acceptable.

Great food. 2nd time we went had offer of lunch and sweet for £17.00, but got charged for a lunch and a sweet, crafty. Didn't realise until we got home.

Visited with family, nice ambience and decor, unfortunately that's where the positives end. The food was mediocre at best, I had mussels for my main meal and counted around 5 which were closed and inedible. My mother had a mushroom pasta dish and the mushroom was like rubber. I also noted that people on the table next to us ordered mussels as a starter and I was pretty unhappy to see it was served in the same portion size as the main but half the price as a starter. I'm fairly sure if you served this in France you would be flogged! Avoid!

Tasty, hearty food, and excellent service. Couldn't recommend more. Perfectly balanced tradition and creativity. The sweet chilli crab noodles was like having G Ramsay as my uni flatmate. Best meal out in long time.

Went with friends, have been many times before, good food, at a reasonable price, good service BUT how it has changed very very long wait for food, when it came bland boring, my wifes tuna completely overcooked, poor service, asked for bill, waitress despite not doing anything other than chatting to a customer at the bar ignored us, had to go to bar to pay, first time in years i did not leave a tip, will never return

We are working for the summer at the nearby heritage railway. It was our 25 wedding anniversary and only had time for a short break to France this year. Le Mistral served great French style food we were missing and the service was excellent. We will be back again.

Fabulous Food! Lovely warm welcome, staff friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We had pate, French onion soup, lamb rump ( truly exceptional, melted in the mouth) beef bourginon hubby said was ‘ bloody gorgeous’ followed by the cheesecake and the caramelised apple tart. Everything piping hot, cooked perfectly. Rounded of by coffees. They were very busy, but the service never slacked, nor did the smiles. It was our 1st visit, but won’t be our last. Thank you Le Mistral we thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and can’t wait to return soon.

I've been to Le Mistral many times over the years but last night's dinner wasn't as good as it has been in the past. French onion soup was uninspiring, Chicken Cordon Bleu was dry and my wife's lamb was tough (and expensive)

Service excellent, friendly and cheerful. Sunday roasts very mediocre … and rather pricey. Overcooking chicken breasts made them tough. Red cabbage very tasty. None of the three diners ate more that one roast potato. Swimming in gravy. The black carbonised lump on my plate turned out to be a Yorkshire pudding … or at least it had been once I think.

What a GORGEOUS place!! Much bigger than it looks on the outside. There was 2 veggies & someone eating only soft foods & the choice was amazing! Gentlemen serving us was super polite. We've visited from Norfolk, annual family holiday & we will 100% be back!! My "Tarte au Citron" was DELICIOUS!!! Got too distracted I only took a picture of my main. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This is the first time back after several years and it was very disappointing. The staff used to be great but not on this occasion. The waitress had no customer service skills, my friend arrived before me and said she had no eye contact/greeting on arrival. We were kept waiting so I asked the waitress for a menu and she quite abruptly told us ‘we would have to wait’…we were quite stunned as we were polite and respectful to her. If I’d been on my own I would have left. We also had dietary requirements which also seemed to be an annoyance to her. The food was ok but after this restaurant being a favourite for many years previously neither of us will go again. Please give your waiting staff some customer service training.

It was wonderful to find that this French restaurant is open on a Wednesday lunchtime. One of us had roast pork (would have liked to have known that it was pork belly, but nicely cooked and with tasty vegetable panache and luscious dauphinois potatoes) and chicken and bacon fricasse (with a typically French creamy sauce, the chicken was a little tough but the mushrooms in it were delicious.) The one member of staff was welcoming and informative. If only the dinner portions hadn’t been so large we would have loved to have sampled the desserts.

Food was OK but they have stopped offering my favourite dish and I find vegetarian dishes I like are not always on the menu. Prices for desserts are horrendous for very small portions, so not worth it. However my biggest criticism is that this restaurant no longer accepts cash payments, so sadly that was my last visit. I will not spend money in any establishment that refuses cash.

We came here for our wedding anniversary . We had a lovely night, meal was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxing, staff were friendly and welcoming . It was a busy night but our meal was served in good time and well cooked. Wine was a special one to celebrate and didn’t disappoint.
