the guy who served us (who I think was also the chef and the owner?) was super lovely and seemed to genuinely enjoy his work which makes the experience so much nicer. The food was well priced, was a good portion, and so delicious. We got the beef bourguignon and the bacon cheeseburger and both were cooked perfectly and came out hot with fries and salad. We went on a Tuesday and eventhough it was quiet the ambience was still nice and cute. Perfect for a date night, would definitely recommend and would go back!

Six of us went for an evening meal; all the food was of an excellent standard and cooked and presented with care. Between us, we had 3 x halloumi fries for starters and mains of 2 x lasagne, 1 x steak, 2 x beef bourgignon and 1 x Joe's Burger. All six of us very much enjoyed the food and we all felt the place had the extra special feel over and above nearby eateries. Decent selection of beers, ciders, wine, spirits and soft drinks. Shall be going again and highly recommend a visit.

Wow this is a hidden gem. If you're looking for traditional freshly cooked French cuisine then this is the place to book. A small warm and welcoming restaurant that brings back memories of my trips to France and dining in local French restaurants. The owner is French born, very friendly and easy to talk to. And he prepares and cooks everything from scratch. Generous portion sizes and not overpriced for the quality of the dishes. Closed sunday and monday. This is not a place to be overlooked. Definitely a place I will be returning to.

One word. Tartiflette. Perfect.

The burger ordered was absolutely great, but I was really disappointed with my Poulet Kiev. There was no garlic butter inside it at all, so despite the chicken being good quality, it was dry and there was just pure garlic at the core, which wasn’t pleasant without the buttery element. Very expensive for that kind of experience.

I've been going here since the place opened 13 years ago and can't recall ever being let down. Good, big portions and well priced for what you get which are larger portions than most places. They also sell alcohol. Friendly, helpful owner and staff who are easy to get along with. Make sure to ring or message in advance so they can arrange your visit. 3 of us are here tonight (16th May) and honestly… the most brilliant burgers and fries with salad we have ever had. This is not our first time here but we don’t need to go anywhere else. Support local businesses like this and feel like you are eating in the man’s own dining room. I wish we took photos but once you bite into this beautiful hand prepared food, you won’t reach for the phone camera. You will be lost in the flavours. Excellent service. Beautiful as always. -Scott

We went in as a walk in on a Saturday evening after being let down by the steakhouse across the road. I had wanted to book here, but hadn't due to not being able to click a button online. However, could've contacted the restaurant over messenger, which I would definitely do in the future. I just don't like calling places 😂 we really liked the atmosphere and the set up of the place. The owner was really welcoming and funny. The food was delicious, well priced and we were fed and watered well within an hour to get to our other engagements on time with just the owner and another member of staff on duty. Thanks for accommodating us. We will be back again! ♥

This must be the most secretive best restaurant in Hull. First time I've been since 2022 due to COVID, but the quality and service is exactly the same. The owner couldn't have done more. Go. You will not be disappointed.

After passing for years and meaning to try this restaurant finally got the chance on Saturday night it was around 7.30 pm four of us thought we'd pop in on the chance of a table being available we were lucky as only one table was occupied a lovely girl took our order 3of us ordered steak the other one chicken Kiev the wine was brought to us and we sat waiting for our food and drinking our wine for about half an hour a man came into the restaurant who announced I'm back who turned out to be the chef-owner went into the kitchen then came to our table and announced he didn't have any steak we could have the choice of paying for the wine or reordering as we were very hungry and not much chance of finding anywhere else to eat we reordered the food we had was nice but nothing spectacular and i didn't feel very welcomed we weren't asked if we wanted desserts

Crêpes were delicious! Homemade chocolate sauce was very good. The cook was also working as a server so very busy, but still had time to speak to us- very friendly and welcoming. Reasonably priced, high quality, good service! What more could you want! Bon appétit!

How about if I told you was a place in Hull that served top quality classic French bistro food at great prices, run by a friendly chef who can’t do enough for you? Well it exists! Le Crepier Papin! 4 of us had been to the football and were peckish, we suggested this place because we’d been in the past and had never been disappointed but I’d genuinely just how good this place is. We didn’t book but it was early so there was a table for us, we ordered cold, bottled, reasonably priced beer straight away and then ordered our food. The menu isn’t massive but it doesn’t need to be. There’s a few starters, several French classics, burgers, savoury and sweet crepes and that’s it but there’s definitely something for everyone. We ordered beef bourguignon, beef stroganoff, a Cajun chicken burger and a cheese burger, it was all cooked in the kitchen infront of us and brought to the table fresh and hot. Within 15 minutes there were 4 clean plates, couldn’t fault the food in anyway. Will be back.

The food here is amazing, homemade with quality ingredients. It really is Hull’s hidden Gem. Been going regularly as it’s the best food around and has such a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend!

I'm having a few days break in Hull and when I saw there was a French-style creperie in buzzy Newland Avenue I though that was a must try. Creperies can be a bit hit and miss but this one is a palpable hit. Host Joe has set up a real provincial French ambience, comfortable and informal, and the menu doesn't disappoint. My savoury galette filled with spicy chicken was delicious, filling and very reasonably priced, and a glass of Merlot was the perfect accompaniment. The only worry was that, on a chilly, dank Tuesday evening I was the only customer. Maybe it was the weather but please give Joe some more love because he deserves it and because this place is a wee gem. Joe, if it comes to the crunch relocate to Glasgow because you'll go down a treat there, they have nothing quite like it.

Another outstanding meal @ Joe’s. We came along this time with some friends from the Ukraine who ordered the carbonara crepe … they said it was the best carbonara they’d tasted. Joe is a master chef and I’d highly recommend his stroganoff - this time I had the goats cheese crepe with Halloumi Fries and it was top notch fayre ! If it’s your first visit here you’ve got to try the Joe Burger !

We had to visit two nights in a row as the food was so lovely, I recommend that everyone makes a visit and you will definitely be back again. The prices are really good aswell I personally think they should be charging more for what you get. The chef and waitress are also lovely, definitely an experience to remember. I am still thinking about the salmon 😁

We've been visiting for years now. This sooo much more than a crêperie! Wholesome French comfort food, perfectly executed. A true hidden gem, the service, food and atmosphere genuinely sets Le Crêpier Papin apart from the rest.

A bit of a mixed experience really. While some of the food we had was nice, the mushroom starter and the Tartiflette was nice, if a little overly greasefilled, we were put on the back foot a little because the website doesn't match the actual menus in the restaurant. My parents ordered a Stroganoff and while it was ok, it wasn't really a Stroganoff and was more of a bourguignon. In addition we had a bit of an unfortunate incident as the food took quite a while to come out to the point that by the time we were able to finish the main, the place was closing and we were informed that no desserts could be made which sort of put a dampener on the entire visit. A bit of a shame really as we were quite looking forward to the trip.

My husband and I recently visited Le Crepier Papin. We arrived around 8pm on a Friday evening to find just one other couple and a single diner. First thing I noticed was they were all wearing their coats/jackets. I was okay with the temperature (although it could have been warmer) but my husband had to keep his jacket on throughout the meal. Some of the wines on the menu were crossed out which was a disappointment so I tried the house dry white which, personally, I thought was undrinkable so I tried the house medium white which was "okay". The food on the other hand was really good. I had a fish dish off the festive menu (can't remember the name) and it was lovely. I would have really appreciated some crusty French bread to have accompanied it to mop up the lovely sauce at the bottom of the bowl. Our waitress was friendly and efficient without being overbearing. So far so good you might say (apart from the wine and the cold). Our problem was really with the waitress. As the place wasn't too busy, once she had finished serving she went back into the kitchen (which is open) and continually talked and talked to whoever was in the kitchen area with her. We asked for the lovely French music to be turned up to drown her out but she just talked louder! It really spoilt what I was hoping to be a nice romantic evening out with my husband. However, I was not put off and would like to try Le Crepier Papin again

Lovely food freshly cooked, independently owned restaurant. Small place with a nice vibe and a friendly owner. We both had the stroganoff, one beef, one mushroom and they were both really tasty. The wine was well priced and we really enjoyed it. After we payed, the owner came to find us in a bar to say that we had overpaid, some notes had stuck together. He gave us £20 back. It's little things like that that make you determined to come back, we definitely will.

They double booked us, so we had to go elsewhere!

Having not visited for a couple of years we hoped it would be as good as before and we not disappointed. Opening hours are reduced now so only open 5-9pm but it is a really charming restaurant with a lovely feel. Food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. Lots of gluten free options as well. On a busy road, it is easy to walk past and not notice it but Le Crepier is well worth a visit.

We wanted somewhere different to the run of the mill restaurants and chose Le Crepier Papin as it’s got a lovely quaint atmosphere and soft background music. Joe the owner and chef is really friendly and cooks some lovely fresh dishes (just love his savoury salmon crepes) with a varied menu. All washed down with a large carafe of very good house red wine. Had all three courses and was absolutely delighted with the quality, service and price. Would highly recommend.

How lucky is Hull to have such a great place. French family food cooked from scratch by Joe, with friendly personal service at a very reasonable price. Lovely.

I’ve always liked this restaurant- good atmosphere, lovely food, reasonably priced. The information about opening hours on the website is out of date as they are currently only opening Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm. It was very quiet on Saturday early evening which is a shame as it deserves to be busy. Everything was as good as ever.

Such a gorgeous place on Newland Avenue. The food is amazing and the service was lovely. Definitely would recommend to anyone - such a varied menu too!

Excellent as always. It's not a place for fast food, but a great place to relax and enjoy lovely food. Just take your time and have a great evening. I can rarely tear myself away from the Tartiflette galette, and this was no exception, it was wonderful.

Lovely atmosphere early evening with candle lit tables. Food was excellent and Joe Papin is very customer focussed too. A great small independent - well worth a visit.

Absolutely gorgeous meal with the family. Salmon fillet the best I’ve ever had and my husband said the same about his fillet steak. House white wine was super drinkable and extremely good value. High chair for our baby and lovely service all round.

Visited for the first time and it was lovely! It was the Christmas menu but was offered meals from their standard menu also. The food was lovely but was so full after 2 courses, we couldn't manage the dessert. The service was fantastic and can't wait to go again.

Fab food, fab service fab little bistro, it's our go to restaurant when we want a treat. Very reasonably priced too.

10th of June 2021 my partner and I went and ordered omelette breakfast. It took 35 minutes for the breakfast to arrive, we were the only customers. Omelette was very salty and when my tea was cold the owner took it away to add hot water which never arrived back. He also forgot to bring water. Both biscuits that were given with the tea / coffee were out of date by four months, the owner took them away, but never replaced. He then asked for the full payment, no discount or anything extra offered. Very disappointed with the whole experience.

We go here often with friends and family or just for a nice meal as a couple. The food and service is always great and everything is freshly cooked and very reasonably priced. Some of our favourites are the homemade chicken Kiev's, lasagne, beef bourguignon, tuna steak and the beef steaks are very well cooked too. There is a good selection of wine and beer and if you have a sweet tooth the deserts are lovely! Well worth a try and you will probably want to go back too!

Lovely food at a pretty good price! There's a great selection of food and drinks available and all of it is freshly made. I can't recommend the burgers enough - they're really tasty. Only downside is that the food takes a while to be brought out. I personally don't mind this because I enjoy conversation, but I imagine others would prefer the food to come out a bit quicker.

Ordered a takeaway, the food was well packaged and stayed hot until we got home. We ordered the tartiflette and steak de thon. The tartiflette was a very tasty, large portion. It also came with lovely roasted vegetables which were well seasoned, and a dressed side salad. The steak de thon was fresh and came with fried potatoes. We just managed to finish it off with two chocolate crepes which were huge! Highly recommend.

First time getting takeaway after years of eating in the restaurant. We haven't been for some time but it was as amazing as I remembered it. The goats cheese and peppered beef galettes were really tasty, salad and dressing great and we ordered chips and there was more than enough. Deserts were fantastic. We got a banana Nutella galette and biscoff ice cream/cheesecake. Delivered on time. Great food to your door and something different from your traditional takeaway. 100% recommended.

Le Crepier Papin is a small venue which gives it a nice, intimate atmosphere. The staff are excellent and very friendly. Joe, the owner makes a wonderful host who is easy going and very pleasant to chat to The food menu is great and the quality outstanding. The presentation is also brilliant

I like this place but haven't been in a while so need to go back!

We ate here one evening, quite late, during the eat out to help out offer period. I would say this place has more of a cafe feel to it than a restaurant and would be interested in coming back to try it for breakfast but not necessarily an evening meal. The girl serving was very distant and appeared either bored or to have something worrying her. She was very casual and rather blank faced in pointing out our table. My friend asked for red wine and was told they had run out. There is a Sainsbury’s just along the road so this is really inexcusable. The menu is not particularly French at all and I opted for lasagne which was decent and enjoyable but did take a long time to come out of the kitchen, as did the starters. It was strange that whilst we were eating some large bloke kept coming in and out of the place and was stood chatting to staff in the kitchen doorway, despite the social distancing rules. The crepe with Grand Marnier was my favourite part of the meal and my least favourite was the goats cheese salad.

Visited this lovely little restaurant as we were in the area and we’re so glad we got a table. I’m the picky eater wife (see other review) and so wanted my mushroom stroganoff without onions (sorry!). We ordered the platter starter which was very generous and absolutely gorgeous. I ordered my main with sauté potatoes with veg- massive portion which I wasn’t expecting . I added garlic bread thinking the meal would be small - again very good and fresh . The chef definitely knows what he’s doing . The waitress was lovely , helpful and very welcoming. Lovely little find, we’ll be back

Popped in tonight after looking for somwhere. Gods atmosphere with a small but steady stream of punters in and out. Waitress under-stated but perfectly polite. Food good, and well priced. I might be being a tad generous with the fifth star. Puddings overpriced and the cheese plate was poor indeed. But we had a nice night. I enjoyed watching the consummate ease that the kitchen handled itself through the open door, and how the chef made a point of bidding us goodnight as we left. In general a good show. Just serve your cheese at room temperature, jettison the Haloumi fries, and halve the cost.

Good quality food good portion of tasty well cooked food. Friendly and relaxing place. Decent drink choices and at a Dr decent price. Pudding not as good as mains but at the price can't argue with meal overall. Will be back.

Popped in with some friends as we’d been told about a special “Joe Burger” (bacon, two types of cheese (cheddar and reblochon), fried onions, vine tomato’s , lettuce and mustard mayo... served with French fries ... OMG it was amazing highly recommend... you have to ask for it as it’s on the secret menu

We visited this restaurant last night and what a shocker we had to start with the way the staff were dressed no uniform just wearing street clothes the chef’s clothing was trainers track suit bottoms and a sweat shirt.We observed the way all dishes were prepared every thing came out of plastic cartons and heated up. My wife and my self had pork and garlic pate . For my main I had Swordfish steak the first half of the swordfish was ok but the second half was very chewy stringy I couldn’t chew it I pointed this out to the girl waitress but nothing forthcoming from the chef when paying the bill nothing was deducted for my swordfish I hah to ask for them to deduct my bill down they did deduct £10 off my bill.that would have been the end of this matter we would not return to this eatery BUT REMEMBER MY WIFE & MYSELF HAD FOR OUR STARTERS THE PORK & GARLIC PATE WE WAS BOTH VERY ILL THOUGH THE NIGHT WITH A VERY BAD CASE OF GASTROENTERITIS WE WAS BOTH ON & OFF THE TOILET ALL NIGHT AND EVEN NOW AT 10.00 ON SUNDAY MORNING WE STILL FEEL ILL . A VERY BIG THANK YOU FOR MAKING US FEEL ILL FOR THE WEEKEND AND WE WILL NOT BE REVISITING THIS ESTABLISHMENT EVER AGAIN FROM MR TREVOR WRIGHT

We enjoyed a very satisfactory Saturday bunch here, waited upon by happy approachable competent staff. Enjoyed a lovely coffee and we'll portioned Petit dejeuner to remedy Friday night's bar adventure. The girls were thrilled with their crepes. Keep up the good work!

We booked a table for 14 people to celebrate my partners birthday. I ordered the swordfish with potatoes and vegetables. The swordfish comes with a fabulous white wine and tarragon sauce. It was delicious and I'd definitely recommend this dish. The house white wine ( dry) was really good and a lot of our party had bottles of ale including Wainwrights.The crepe miel is a must, really lovely.The service was really good and the whole ambience of this lovely little bistro made it a special evening.

I had my baby shower here and the service was lovely. I ordered the salmon fish cakes of the specials and they’re amazing!

Best steak I have had for years. Great dressing on side salad and frites were fantastic. Red wine amazing. Cheesecake and Ice cream sublime will definitely go back and highly recommend this bistro.

A most enjoyable evening and meal. My French cousin, holidaying with us accompanied by her German husband and tired of mon français execrable, treated us together with our extended family to a most enjoyable meal and herself to a long chat in French with M'sieur Papin once he had finished cooking. More than just a Crèperie perhaps more Bistro, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. A place to which we will return.

Super dining as good standard for a few pounds. Crepe main courses look appetising but not very big however they were filling and not everyone could manage dessert. Lovely staff - attentive but not overly so. Desserts were delicious - so I had mine as my main course!

Enormous dishes well worth the wait just kick back, grab a drink and enjoy the ambience and your company . Arrive hungry and be patient.

No croissants. The waitress very clearly had her friends, who had come in after us, served first. After a long wait, I asked where our food was and she snapped back "We've got to cook it first!" Our food arrived after her friends had eaten and left. Again: they came in after us and after we had ordered.

We called in here for lunch on a very wet and miserable Friday. It was lovely and warm, clean and welcoming. Our order was taken promptly and by a very polite and pleasant man (the owner??)We both chose a galette, mine with bacon mushroom onion and potato cooked in a white wine and cheese sauce, hubby had beef in peppercorn sauce. The food is cooked to order so don't expect instant food, but it was well worth waiting for, very tasty and very filling.The plan had been to have this then a dessert, no chance, we were absolutely stuffed after the crepe.it's not a big place which i prefer, and we couldn't fault either the food or the service.

Food was faultless with large portions, did have quite a long wait but I suppose was to be expected as we were a party of 15. Would suggest that large bookings are asked to pre- order.

Great food, great prices. We had a pre booked table of 14. All food took over an hour. Kids food 10 minutes after ours. My pregnant wife meal was completely forgotten. Kids meals and wife's meal (which eventually came out when we all had finnished) was taken off the bill. I still left a decent tip because the food was on point and the young lady who served us was a trooper. She was attentive, compassionate and tried her best despite it all going Pete tong. Also she was new and was left to operate the till alone without adequate training. I think for groups larger than 8 you should use a pre order system for food to help you maintain organisation. Also support your front of house staff more that young lady should not have been left so alone.
