L&B restaurant in Bolton

We normally love the Retreat, and have been visiting as a family for many years. So we did not hesitate to book for our Mother's Day family lunch. As usual the food we received was excellent, however the experience was somewhat tainted by the fact that our server seemed to be on a different planet (as though severely hung over or similar) and clearly was not listening when our orders were placed. This resulted in a significant wait between our starter and main course as we had been forgotten, which is not ideal when you have a 4 year old in the group, and when food and drinks did arrive, they contained silly errors like providing a chicken rather than vegetarian pizza to my sister, trying to deliver champagne bottles when we had ordered glasses of prosecco (half of the party were driving so this would have been a waste), full sugar pepsi instead of diet, and bringing the child's food last. They then tried to bill us for their errors. Food wise, I especially enjoyed the chilli beef, pizza garlic breads and fish and chips, but was disappointed by the limited Sunday menu and service overall. I appreciate that Mothers Day is busy, but we have been on other busy occasions and had a much better experience.
