love this restaurant. it's my go to place. Always have excellent service and food

I placed my order at 6:30pm for collection at 7:20 I arrived and paid for the order and sat patiently waiting till around 8pm I waited for around 45 minutes after my collection time before receiving my food. When I approached a member of staff to ask about my order he just said what was the name, No apology nothing. I didn’t even get a hello when I approached the till. I understand they were busy but it felt like they were only interesting in people eating in and they were attended to immediately and would be checked on regularly. The least you can do is offer people an apology and show interest in your customers. I have come a few times and haven’t had any issues but after today I felt really disappointed and left feeling like I don’t want to return.

Definitely the best curry in Cardiff. Very helpful, friendly staff. The owner is great. Looking forward to going again soon

Food is really nice but the service is really bad. Twice on the trott we’ve waited 45 minutes AFTER the given collection time to collect our takeaway. No apology, no offer of discount. So from ordering to collection was 2 hrs. They were clearly very busy as there were tens of people also waiting for over an hour late. Maybe offer people free drinks whilst they wait if it’s late, it would have made us all more content. I appreciate they’re busy but I just want honesty about wait times, is it’d going to be 2hrs just be upfront and tell us (and that gives us the option to go elsewhere).

Food is tasty, reasonably priced, and the staff are pleasant. Takeaway service can be a little slow at times, but food is worth the wait.

It is a place we go to regularly. Lovely choice of vegetarian dishes for me and great staff. You never feel rushed and they make you feel so welcome. We always go in a Sunday evening which isn't busy but book anyway just in case. Love the place and the food. Only 3 miles for us to travel so quite convenient

I was recommended this restaurant a few months ago, so booked to go with a friend who I hadn't seen in a while. A nice bright entrance with friendly staff who greeted us from the bar area, very clean throughout, for obvious reasons we didn't go upstairs but I'm sure it was lovely too. Our food was correct, piping hot and fresh, (on this occasion we had drinks, poppadoms, chutney tray and mains) The waiters were attentive despite being busy. A Very busy restaurant, so that says it all. Worth the drive across town. Will definitely be returning, parking close can be hit or miss but youll always mange to find a spot :)

Very kind, friendly and attentive staff, food and presentation was excellent and the atmosphere on a Saturday evening was fantastic, the restaurant was packed (even though you cannot see in from the outside) so I'd definitely recommend booking ahead like we did. To start we had the pappadums with the various dips and the chutney was delicious. I went for the lamb tikka masala with pilau rice, again really delicious at the perfect spice level. The servings were extremely generous to the point you could probably share certain dishes, and the amount of different food available on the menu is fantastic. We will definitely visit again!

Thank you to all the staff at Lake Spice for a fabulous evening on my birthday. From the second we walked in, the staff couldn't do enough for us. Very quickly seated at our table, service and food absolutely amazing. Very attentive and didn't stop for breath as the place was very busy. Would definitely recommend to friends anytime.

Really good food and service. Nice and clean premises and not too tightly packed. They have a very large menu, the portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant was almost full and yet everything went smoothly.

Went here last min on a sat night they were full but managed to get us a table within 10 mins. Food was absolutely beautiful and the best curry by I have ever had & staff were brilliant x

Nice restaurant with limited veg options. Taste was good and service too.

Good offer of 20% off for collection which is good! But the wait time on collection is very bad. Took an additional 30 mins from when they said it would be ready. Most curry houses we have been to offer a free drink if the wait is longer than 5-10 mins. The service when eating in is good, but the service whilst waiting not so much, not very friendly. Portion sizes are very good! And tastes good! A lot of the curry are quite similar tasting. And korma/Tikkas are the normal not spicy dish we go for to balance to meal. But here they are spicy quite spicy, they are nice but just FYI for people to know if your not a fan of spice.

Lake Spice ** Indian Restaurant** Is not very Indian at all. We order the following dishes and being an Indian these are the honest reviews: Garlic king Prawns : is a starter but comes with medium curry. Thick coats would have been fine but this is not how it is made in addition to which the prawns were either too old or uncooked. Hariyali Chicken kebab : This was decent in a portion for one and not a sharer. Chicken balti: This was a proper massacre of Indian Balti, the gravy was not a gravy but a paste of onion and tomatoes no salt no spice. That's not how an authentic Balti is. In addition Balti is supposed to be served in a Balti and Chicken Kadhai in a Kadhai (this might be too picky) but it is what it is. Butter Garlic naan : (the dish that actually made me type this review) As we all know Naan is a flat bread to be eaten with curries and NOT A DESSERT. The naan were actually sweet , not like the Indian way of saying not spicy (sweet), but actually SWEET after taste. Gurkha chicken : This dish was decent, proper gravy , decent spice and flavors, highly recommended if you are at the restaurant already and reading this review. Apart from the food , the service is amazing the staff Is very warm and welcoming, the ambience is pretty nice and adding to the location are the only things that keep this restaurant in business. Summary : if you want to enjoy INDIAN food this is not the place , I can promise you this isn't Indian or Sri Lankan or Bangladeshi food. If you want to enjoy the above mentioned ambience please do visit. If you want to enjoy curries do visit : Banana Leaf, North road (Sri Lankan) Mirchi Restaurant, city road. (Indian / Pakistani) Ponnuswamy, North road. (South Indian)

There isn’t parking for the restaurant but fortunately right by roath park - so we parked by there. I’d highly recommend this restaurant because the service was polite and fast, food was also fast, decent priced and extremely tasty! We will be coming here again. We ordered a garlic prawn starter each then for mains lamb bhuna and chicken bhuna, I couldn’t finish all of my main so I took the rest home! There was also great selections of curry’s and rices to choose from and there is an option of takeaway if you don’t fancy dining in.

We booked for my mums 80th, apart from a long wait for our food as it was very busy (there was 14 of us). The staff were all lovely, very accommodating, we all enjoyed the food. I would definitely recommend lake spice. Thank you lake spice for making a memorable night for my mum 💕

This was my second visit to Lake Spice - I had recently been with a group of mates and had been really impressed with the food and atmosphere of the place. My daughter had got me an Escape Room experience in town and I suggested we go for food at the Lake Spice. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly face and take to our table. Our drinks and food order were taken and poppadoms and chutneys were brought to us very quickly. The plates (hot) and food were served soon afterwards and I have to say they were very well presented and thoroughly delicious..we also had great banter with the staff. All in all a fantastic experience, well done to the team of Lake Spice…this will be my go to restaurant for a curry…!!

Best Indian in Cardiff! The food is always outstanding and the naans are to die for - cannot recommend enough! My only warning would be that sometimes the service can be on the slower side if they're really busy, but honestly the food is absolutely worth it, and it's really not an issue if you're not in a rush!

Lovely place nice with friends and family

We wanted to try out the lunchtime deal to get an idea what the food was like before organizing a Christmas gathering. Unfortunately we didn’t have an opportunity to try the food. We arrived at 1pm for lunch and were told really rather rudely that it was too late (they close at 2pm) and were bundled out the door! Such a shame - it could have been handled much more diplomatically - I know ‘good food takes time to prepare’ but surely an hour for lunch is long enough especially for a lunch-time deal.

2nd time I have been here . 1st time 1/12 hours I waited for food . 2nd time 1/ 40 . I think because of the location it’s very busy and they have a lot of big party’s. For that reason I wouldn’t go again. Other than that staff really nice food is ok but on the spicy side even the korma.

Really lovely food, with a broad menu. We had tikka biriani, chicken shashlick, I mushroom aloo and garlic naan. Beautiful food and reasonable prices, around £20 per head, with a non alcoholic drink. Looking forward to another visit!!

Probably one of the finest Indian restaurants Cardiff has got, right down to the atmosphere, food, the layout and service, the various dishes all had mouth watering flavours, nan breads were just melting in the mouth, the service provided by staff was outstanding, the plates ( heated up before being placed on table), cutlery, glasses were extremely clean, the other thing that I noticed was quality of air inside, which didn't leave heavy curry smell on your clothes, maybe I'm being too fussy but I think it counts. They also had a good selection of wines, and drinks, even down to the soft drinks being branded and in individual bottles. Finally the prices, again outstanding £227 for 8 of us including 3 bottles of wine and soft drinks, that's under £30 pounds per head, a bargain!!!!. Overall an absolute and excellent experience and will visit again and would highly recommend to anyone who wants to taste Indian cuisine at its best.

.Second time at this restaurant with the neighbours. The service needs to be improved in my opinion. The waiters could not remember what each individual had ordered. Probably the whole restaurant heard what you had when the waiters shouted the dishes they had brought out. The orders were mixed up and being in a group of 12 people some of us ended with a completely different one.We ordered Poppadum each and three Chutney trays. The menu states it consists of Tomato and Onion salad, Mint sauce, Mango & Coconut chutney. The chutney tray we had for the four who were together had two onion salads and no mint chutney. All the hotel manager could say was "sorry" when this was brought to their attention. As for the food, I must admit that the dish (Shatkora) my wife ordered was nice and spicy. However, there was hardly any difference between my Makhani chicken and my friend's Chicken Tikka Masala.On the whole, I am glad I was amongst good neighbours and we had fun and I wish I could same about the general food and the service. Will think twice before going back.

Lovely sit down restaurant at a great location in Cardiff. It was a last min decision to have an Indian and didn’t have time to book a table. Wasn’t a problem finding a seat and the staff were very helpful. We ordered the set meal and a couple of drinks. The food arrived in good time and was lovely. We had a great time and will be on our list for another visit.

We had a brilliant meal. Staff were funny made our time enjoyable. Refreshing to have staff that had a good sense of humour. They seemed happy and relaxed despite being busy which helps create a great ambience. I had a curry from the specials and it was delicious. All freshly cooked. I often feel disappointed after most Indian food if too oily not spicy enough etc but lake spice did not disappoint. I had a very messy toddler with me but the restaurant catered and we felt very welcome. I was pleased with prawn Puri starter. Homemade dips and lovely naan too. We will be back again.

Lake spice is a great place, I went to collect my order so I can try the food befor sitting in the restaurant. When I walked in to collect the food they made me felt welcomed and even said take a seat while I wait for the food and I didn't even book a table. The staff there was great and the place it's self is so warming and it's like a happy place. It was so chilled in the restaurant. It's a nice place. The food is spot on and was very nice and it's great sizes to the point I had left overs which I'm sure I will eat later. %100 next time I want food there I will be sitting in.

Asked for lamb monipuri but was served beef (strips of stir fry steak in sauce) so not what I was expecting. The naan bread was excellent though and my friend said her chicken korma was good.

Lovely meal, very high quality curries. We have a number of experts in our group and they rated it very highly. Definitely one to return to.

Visited lake spice yesterday with a few friend's.some of my family members are already regulars here,so we finally decided to give it a whirl yesterday.Where do i start from start to finish the standard of food and service was next level.poppadoms with dips tottaly fresh,chilli pickle was a win win,the king prawn poori 9.8 outa 10,mains were exceptional carrying the same rating.I Highly reccomend tge lake spice.The whole while Slstaff went the extra mile,even with the restaurant full. Well done guys keep up the great standards. 👍👌

Fast becoming one of my favourite sit down Indians. Food is excellent, reasonably priced with a good choice. Staff are friendly and welcoming, there's a nice atmosphere with good lighting. Definitely recommend.

Firstly they have a four star hygiene rating. The toilets are dirty. The staff are dirty, their uniforms are dirty and they should take more care or their personal hygiene and appearance. Your wit doesn't hide this. The food is not great and we won't be back. I'd hate to see the state of the kitchen. If what are you present to the public isn’t bad enough.

We enjoyed a birthday meal with friends last night. As usual, it was flawless. The food and service was as amazing as ever. Over the last few years we're gradually working our way through the menu and haven't found a dish we wouldn't want to try again. One of our friends was a vegetarian and there was an extensive range of options available to her. The team in Lake Spice have always been accommodating when we've discussed our needs and preferences. The restaurant is situated on the edge of Roath Park, set back in a leafy nook. The interior is cosy and welcoming, with dining available over 2 floors. If you love Indian food, you will not be disappointed.

We are so lucky that Lake Spice is on our door step.. Our go to’s are most people favourites Onion Bhaji, Popadoms.. but the garlic king prawns are amazing as is the chicken kholapuri Keep up the good work Mamoon and team It’s a A* and a 10/10 from us

Me and my partner Mo and our son we visit here regularly and by far is the best Indian restaurants in Cardiff, I will highly recommend the chicken Jalfrezi and chicken chef's special 👌 the staff is really friendly and approachable and always provides the best service regardless on how busy they are. We didn't have a booking lastnight but they they gave a table very quickly. The service was very friendly and the food was very nice.

The experience over all was fantastic. The food was some of the best Indian food I've had. But the service desperately needs some work. Our tablecloth was dirty, I was given a different drink to what I'd ordered, one member of staff was slightly rude, we were offered poppadoms three times, showing a complete lack of communication between staff - and to top it off it took about twenty minutes between being given the bill and having someone over to present the card reader. I shouldn't have to ask multiple times. They weren't particularly busy, and any of these individual things would be permissable, but I can't give more than 2 stars for service.
