Well what can I say what a disappointing Experience for my husbands 40th birthday whole party was left disgusted and very upset really spoilt the night, 22 of us attended for my husbands birthday and we spent a lot only to be treated by the manger absolutely disgracefully, all food came out at different times, some peoples food where Luke warm, the manger I explained to him a child’s spag Bol and this came out way before everyone else’s meal wasn’t very warm and was very bland, then later they brought out the other dishes there was a adults spag Bol we hadn’t ordered it was the kids one which had already come out he slammed the dish in front of me and said I did order it, he became so angry with me demanding I take the dish, my brother explained we ordered the kids one and it’s been he became rather verbally aggressive with us, he then took it away and everyone’s meals came he then came back over when I was eating with the dish and receipt to demand I had ordered it and to take it I explained again, my brother said let her eat her dish and then we will discuss he huff and puffed and tutted walking away, the whole family where left shocked, the owner wasn’t much more friendly no thank you for our orders all very rushed and very disappointed in the food the food is meant to be fresh yet the use dry pasta and the source was like water the prawns like rubber! Never again would I bother attending the garlic bread was shocking was also very cold. Had lot nicer meals at casa nostra down the road wish we had used them but we thought why not give it ago, the manger was rude to our children also who where well behaved. Never have I experienced such rudeness at a restaurant. However I must say Jenny our waiter she was wonderful and couldn’t do enough she is in the wrong restaurant as her customer service and politeness was amazing and she deserves someone who will acknowledge that. Also a 10% service charge on both tables and the only service charge should have gone to jenny the full amount. What a disaster never again save your money and go somewhere that wants your business and money and actually use fresh ingredients. Also manger spotted by my aunt rubbing his snotty nose on his jumper and then hands and not washing them 🤮 good job she Told me end of the night. Treated our disabled guests awful, so much eye rolling tutting and aggression, the restraint is cold and so run down inside and out. Save your money and book somewhere who want your service.

Possibly the most unfriendly manager and owner I’ve ever experienced in decades of dining in many countries. Food tasty enough but the only smiles we saw in staff were from a couple of the young waitresses. The mood of our birthday party we were with was dampened, the main topic of conversation being the miserable and rude attitude of the manager in particular. Why is there a 10 % service charge added to the bill? It pained us to pay this. In most businesses transactions, there is a discount for larger numbers (more than twenty of us!). We will never go there again. I just wished there was a zero (or even minus) star option. I’ve seen more emotion in robots!

Great place for my mums birthday. There were 11 of us and food arrived promptly and was great. Go!

Excellent authentic Italian meal at a reasonable price.

Super service and excellent food

This is our local Italian. Whether it is for lunch or for special occasions this is where we come for great Italian food. The takeaway menu is great as well. Try the Porcini garlic bread. You don’t need to reserve a table for lunch during the week but I would recommend it for evening and weekends.

Great food and hard-working staff

The worst pizza I've ever had, it was soggy and under cooked. However my daughter enjoyed her pasta. Not very comfy and cosy, it felt like a canteen. It's a real shame because it did used to be a really nice place, I won't be retuning.

Look at this wonderful food. Always so delicious.We come here quite often, the service and food never lets us down. The house red is always a pleasure to drink. The specials are always something a little different and not over priced. We would highly recommend La Scala. You will not be disappointed.

I found the manager very miserable and scruffy, although the waitresses and waitors in white shirts were friendly and smartly dressed. It was expensive for a bowl of pasta with hardly any meat. I don't agree on giving a service charge when the manager who served our party of 16 was miserable. There were university students who wanted to pay separately but were told this was not allowed! I will not be visiting la scala again

It was my big birthday and my two daughters and family took for a meal it was a fantastic night banners balloon 🎈 and a birthday 🎂 cake thank you all hope to go back soon 😊

I rarely post any reviews but we used to come here over 10years ago and was massively disappointed by what it has become. The food was like something you would see on Kitchen Nightmares and the Owner is clearly giving up on what is clearly a dieing resteraunt. His attitude, demeanour and lack on enthusiasm was clear for everyone to see. I think it's time he sold the place and let someone who enjoys running a resteraunt take over The one positive was the waitress who served us was pleasent you just feel for them serving such bad food and working for such a miserable person

Food was lovely x service was not so good.. the old man that works there is so unwelcoming, he rolls his eyes and pulls annoyed faces with you if your not being quick enough.. he’s abrupt and not welcoming in any way shape or form… only 3 tables in there and the service was shocking having to shout over to get drinks… we have been here a few times as a family and I remembered last time we went there and he was the same but thought he may have just been having an off day… anyway after the visit last night we won’t be returning again.

All seven in our group, made up of three generations, enjoyed every course from the mouth-watering and wide-ranging menu, superbly served and presented by the friendly and professional, hardworking team. La Scala Westhoughton upholds the highest standards and is highly recommended in every way.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I’m not one for posting a bad review but I feel the need to. Absolutely appalled at the service we’ve just received. Went for a lovely Mother’s Day meal. I ordered the cannelloni. A dish I have often at many other Italian restaurants. So I had one mouthful and couldn’t eat it, it had a strange curry like taste. Not your usual tomato and cheese spinach vibes. The owner came over and was disgustingly rude, telling me lots of people have it and what’s wrong with me ? Excuse me ? Are you for real ? You don’t speak to customers in that manner. He then stormed off when i said it was a dish I eat regularly. How he gets any business with an attitude like that. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable in my life! Safe to say I won’t ever eat there again. Let me add I was very polite and was still willing to pay for the food I didn’t eat. I do however have to praise the lovely waitress that made me feel slightly better, about the manor I was spoken to by the man. She apologised on his behalf and took the dish off the bill. Not impressed, so to anyone reading, I’d avoid if I was you.

The food is actually nice but the atmosphere was not. It’s not welcoming and the old man there just makes you feel awkward stood there looking grumpy and not once smiled even when leaving or while taking our order.I also stated it was my daughters birthday but nothing was done even thought the restaurant had only 2 other customers in overall it’s a very cold unsettling place to sit and eat

Lunch time treat..not been before but passed by often ..should have called in sooner ! Very tasty food, house wine excellent good service & value for money. Staff seemed a little distant at first but seemed to warm to us as we obviously enjoyed the food. (I expect the physical atmosphere is better at a busier time as it was a bit chilly)

Went for my 50th Birthday. Not been since it changed hands. Great service. Food was piping hot and delicious and came quickly. We were in 2 and half hours and didn't feel rushed like in some places. Most important for us was that it was all accessible and it ticked all the boxes. Only thing we all said was they really need to smile, it makes a world of difference to the whole atmosphere and enjoyment

Normally we visit places where its a great atmosphere, great decor and staff, plenty of smiles but the food is lacking. This place exact opposite, food was fantastic but the staff we just cardboard cut outs stood talking to each other no personalities, the two bosses faces like thunder ( I think this is the old school Italian way).Come on guys throw a bit of charm in and a few smiles, some people were eating with coats on as the temperature wasnt the best, I would defintely visit again just for the food.The other bits need fixing.Lighting does everything, get some warm white bulbs make it more cosy,,

La Scala will be our go to restaurant now, the quality and quantity of the food is outstanding couldn't finish it all..staff are really friendly and very efficient. Nice atmosphere to make you feel relaxed not noisy with customers obviously enjoying a good night. Will definitely be back soon. Thank you

Ordered the Sirloin steak to be cooked medium. Came very well done, like chewing through plywood. Not impressed with a chef that can't cook a basic steak. The staff that looked after us were polite and attentive. Like I've said it's the chef that let's the place down.

Complements to the chef as the the food was nice. However the service was shocking the owner was unprofessional he looked like he didn’t want to serve , he looked grumpy and did not look happy. He was impatient . We tried to make him smile that was impossible, as he was miserable and looks like he hates his job. The waitress apart from one girl was all standing round looking miserable and didn’t crack a smile once . One of the male staff cleaning tables face was so miserable he looked like he was in the wrong job he looked like he suited working in a morgue. Utterly disgusting the the service. We always ordered from this restaurant in lockdown to help keep this restaurant open as we enjoyed the food but tonight the service was shocking ,We didn’t feel welcome atall and we will not be going again and will be letting friends and family know about the terrible service The price was £150 and we feel like that was a big waist of money as they just wanted get us out , the atmosphere was terrible. If you want to have a great evening with lovely food and great service do not attend this restaurant as you will be disappointed I would highly recommend nabucco or casa nostra the service and food is great and you won’t be disappointed.

Food was absolutely delicious The waiter was abit sour faced at first ! But eventually we got a smile off him. Place has little tiny flys really annoying fungus gnats which live in soil of plants Atmosphere was good place was busy. The young girl waitress was really lovely

Lunch menu was reasonably priced for the portion sizes. Service was OK but the staff lacked personality. No atmosphere, but it was a Thursday lunchtime. Probably better in the evening or at weekends.

What a fab little gem based in Westhoughton ! We have been eating here for the past few years for a number of occasions and it always feels super welcoming and relaxed. The staff are attentive and friendly, great choice of authentic Italian food and the service is on point! Highly recommend !

Delicious, there was 8 of us and all good arrived at same time got everything spot on even stuck a candle in Birthday Boys dessert.

Had a late lunch/early tea at la scala. The food was lovely and hot. The service was excellent as well. Will certainly revisit and pass on to my friends.

My favourite Italian Restaurant, there is nowhere quite like it in my opinion. The chef is amazing, always delicious and fresh produce. Simply the best.

The man that was taking food order was very rude, not nice to talk to When asking do we want starters we said no he wasnt happy about that and when my other half said he didnt want veg.....was rude, I belive he was the owner When leave no nothing want the waiter girls said they get it all time with him Really not impressed!!! And been saying about trying here for a while I'll stight to going Casa

Haven't been for years so thought we'd give it a try, and so glad we did ! We both had specials for our starters Scallops and hubby had prawns. Both were beautiful and extremely tasty. I love pasta but always struggling to eat a full portion, however they did a half portion which was just enough. Hubby had a chicken dish and enjoyed it. Will definitely be going again !

Good food with a friendly atmosphere

La Scala is ALWAYS the place to go for delicious food, friendly staff and a relaxed environment. The staff always make an extra effort with all of their new and returning guests and always offer a personalised service. I have never had a meal here that has been less than sublime and at a reasonable price too! I could write a novel with the great things I have to say about La Scala but the proof is in the eating... Book a table and enjoy, you will be spoiled when you do!

Food fabulous. The chef is superb!! Well done 10 out of 10- deserve to be acknowledged. Service prompt but staff soulless - owners/managers prompt & efficient but unfriendly, no warmth or familiarity like there used to be. Waitresses ok & did a good job but looked unhappy. The atmosphere used to be a beautiful warm ambience but no longer, cold & efficient & therefore won't be going again. As eating out becomes more expensive & with rising cost of living - a rarity, although the chefs delights were amazing to the palette, I would frequent an establishment where the atmosphere is more friendly.

Good choice on menu. Food good but a little pricy. Wine was good. Service was quick and starters came out within 10 mins. The atmosphere was subdued to start and then gradually as it got bussier and music was on it started to improve. Need more of the Italian amore!

Myself and my partner visited last night for the first time. We really enjoyed the food, can not fault it. What I will say is, there was only one member of staff ( lovely,smiley and polite lady with brown hair in a ponytail) the two older men didn't even speak to us, let alone smile, the younger girls looked uncomfortable) Maybe some staff training and team building would create more staff morale. This could be the reason why the restaurant was quiet compared to the always busy Casa Nostra.

Went here for lunch. Lovely food, cooked to order. Salmon with prawns was excellent, as was the lasagne. Authentic Italian food which is hard to find nowadays. Plenty of gluten free options. Very good house wine. Traditional atmosphere which suited all of us.

Good atmosphere over all, although this restaurant seem to be stuck in the 90s. From a personal point of view this restaurant has got a potential, even though there are some things in the service that should be revised, such as the table settings. It seems to be a pretentious restaurant and most probably the owners know their stuff around food. Service should be revised in terms of atmosphere, music, livery and maybe a rejuvenation of the brand. 3/5 for the food mainly....a pity for a restaurant that maybe could aim for better goals.

I must admit it was fantastic and delicious food some staff are friendly and some weren't. The staff and service is the main reason for the 3 stars staff need to have better manner and accommodate vegetarian mores and be able to take food orders instead of one person. We'll done on excellent food holding up the rating.

This is a first class authentic Italian restaurant and the food, service and atmosphere are exceptional. From the second we walked in we were seated given menus and a drinks order taken. It's well staffed, polite efficient and well worth a visit and in my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Westhoughton, hence the 5 stars...well done La Scala!!

Went on a friend's recommendation for a celebration meal. Couldn't fault a thing. Absolutely fantastic food, friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommended. We will definitely return.

Visited last night and food was amazing.I had chicken Diane and the meat was melt in the mouth and the sauce was the real deal! Having tasted very inferior Diane sauce at other places. My wife had duck breast with orange sauce and she said it was delicious.The included in the price vegetables were plentiful,varied and cooked to perfection. Service with a smile as always. Will be back soon.

The food is brilliant but the staff are really miserable and unwelcoming. I felt like I was being annoying by even asking for another drink. Really enjoyed the food though so will be back, the restaurant is nice and spaced out too.

Visited the restaurant on a Friday evening with 2 of my friends . The food was lovely I really enjoyed all my 3 courses . The service was very friendly and efficient . Would definitely be going again and would reccomend to friends .

Had a fantastic visit to La Scala yesterday. Service was incredibly fast, there was a friendly atmosphere, and a great choice of food at really reasonable prices. I like that you can have half sizes of pasta for a starter so I could try the delicious carbonara and have a meat pizza for main with a lovely soft tasty crust. Lots of dessert and drink choices too as well as daily specials. Also liked the little touch of breadsticks on the table and a mint to finish. We will definitely be returning!

Upon entering I felt as if I aged 80 years and was ina retirement home An ikea shelf has more taste to it even inmates don’t deserve to be degraded to such inhuman levels of blandness. Don’t know why but the owner smells like a fish monger The place is as Italian as my left foot Save ya money!!!!!!!!!

The only positive I can take from my visit is the staff, they was lovely, and the service was good. However the starter I had was bland. I had a cheese garlic bread for starters which had no taste. The main didn’t have no taste, just spice. The music was a bit loud for a bit. As well, the place had a weird smell. I went here based on the good reviews. I was expecting food with flavour, however, that wasn’t the case.

The service was brilliant, but the food was tasteless and the owner constantly staring made it so awkward.

Great night out food was good to good hosts

Who would have thought that there was a small piece of Italy in Westhoughton? The calamari was delicious, the tentacles was easily the best part if you are brave enough to put them in your mouth. The calzone was huge and filling whilst being delicious from start to finish. The king prawns looked amazing however I didn't get chance to try them as my father thought they were that good! Mother had a classic margarita which was simplistic Italian pizza done perfectly. Added to all of that you have polite, professional and attentive staff who aren't afraid to bring out the massive pepper grinder to top of the Italian experience. The deserts are fantastic and they also have a huge range of ice-creams to top off an amazing meal. Lastly and by no means least Italian coffee done properly. A fair chunk of cash was spent on this and was worth every penny. If you are fancying a brilliant Italian meal then give it a go.
