La Masa Restaurant Romanesc in Barking and Dagenham

The most horrible Romanian restaurant. Mamaliga was cold. The food did not taste good at all, lacked spices, hospital food in effect. The atmosphere in the restaurant is not welcoming at all. The young lady there should learn manners, when she came to the table she didn't even say hello, as if I came to the stable and not to the restaurant. Most of the customers who come to eat are equally uneducated, they yell at each other from one table to another and the staff doesn't say anything to them. Ugly restaurant, the tables are covered with paper and where I sat was full of oil and I think it hasn't been changed in a month. I will never come back in my life 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Cheap owner, worst service ever. Is a rip off, expensive and food is not OK. Those people came from construction industry and jump into hospitality. Also because healthy and hygiene is an option for them 😅

This restaurant is a ripped off. Prices are expensive for the poor quality of food you get. Frozen pizza in the supermarket are better than the pizza served in this restaurant. Meat was tough. Polenta was cold and horrible. Waitress was poor in communication. And don't forget to check your itemised bill for any wrong items that was charged despite the empty restaurant. Made a mistake of trying this restaurant without verifying the alarming negative feedbacks online.

I rarely post reviews but this restaurant managed to trigger me to do so for public safety. First they didn’t speak a word of English, then they brought drinks we didn’t ordered and didn’t want to take them back (even though they weren’t open yet), food was low quality, poorly cooked and prices charged were higher then the advertised outside (not to mention that they tried to charge us for the drinks we didn’t consume). Despite all that it wasn’t even cheap.

The worst restaurant I ordered papanasi and they were horrible very expired and I paid 20 lira for 2 papanasi

Ordered through deliveroo, just a soup and lamb chops , and received only a soup???? When I called the restaurant I insisted to speak with the manager , and he told me to go and collect it myself? Obviously you don't understand the whole concept of "deliveroo" and take away? ORRR to order a drink so they can send it with a driver ? So you are asking me to pay £8 for a can of soda, that's plus fees , which soda is worth £0.70??? Not to mention the soup is worth £5 and the lamb chops £16.... Unbelievable. And no, please don't call me to delete my comment, it will remain here till the end of times

The worst restaurant, the question is if it is still called a spicy pan, about how many cm is the pan in which you make a handful of food, seriously 16 pounds, besides the fact that it is sweet, not spicy under any criticism. As far as I know, anchovies are small, not half the size of a palm....I don't recommend them at all. 2 portions of anchovies and a spicy pan 50 pounds, woe to you

For the first time in this restaurant and the cabbage is more expensive than the beef steak, I saw that they have roe for 7£ a portion and I thought they were homemade... so straight from the store for 1.99 a casserole... almost soup cold, in the end £18 for cabbage with a fork.......

I used to order before all the time from this restaurant. I don’t know that happened because now the food is horrible . You cant serve that actually. And spending 26 pounds and I received a small pot of soup and I’m a tiny girl that even for me is not enough. And I order some prawns but they didn’t have it and they send me some horrible calamari if you can call it calamari . They lost me as a customer as maybe the owner has changed or the chef because before used to be so good . Now is a joke

I have ordered some food and I literally didn’t expect. I pay £22 for a plate of grilled meat, the quantity was too small for the money and everything dry and cold. The soup as you can see was with a mosquito inside. I called the restaurant, maybe they can send another one or a refund but they say is not possible. Please avoid. Poor quality for the money.

I went to eat a fennel soup, between 11:30 and 12:00, when I was told that they don't have soups and I had to get barbecues. And I could hear the cooks yelling and cursing that I asked for soup and they didn't feel like heating it up. It doesn't seem ok to me

A shameful way to promote Romanian culture . The service is zero and the atmosphere sends you back in time ,in the 90's. The place looks like a restaurant from Nicolae Ceausescu sad times. The music they force you to listen is sang by Nicolae Guta and the utensils as cutlery and napkins are given to you dirty. The vegetables in my salad were old. The ''mici'' i ordered were okay cooked but when i went home, my stomach gave me trouble. The owner of this establishment should be ashamed of himself and actually close this place down before someone gets seriously sick.

Fixed food bought from tesco. The cilantro could be seen to be taken out of the bag and quickly prepared. Not even Romanian iz. He had no bones. And there was also £18. Disappointed and very expensive. Very bad food adapted to the English style. Success

Small orders, through the Uber Eats app, you get soup with a so-called pizza with an egg in the center. You go to return the food and get a refund and you get.... nothing! That's how this restaurant works... What an embarrassment.

I only give one star because I can't give zero. Incompetent and poor quality with old products. Today I ordered two soups, one of which was completely spilled because the boxes they use for takeaway are of very poor quality, just like the nurse who tried to give us a staff person, who seemed completely lost and incompetent ! I also ordered a schnitzel with a portion of fries, the schnitzel was thick and almost raw, it had a strange smell, we chose not to eat anything, just a waste of time and money. Very insensitive and incompetent! I do not recommend anyone to go to this place

Went into this restaurant with my black family, and wasn't even allowed to sit down before we were immediately told we can’t dine here because it was for Romanians only. I doubled down and asked the waitress again and she reiterated that we would not be able to dine here as we were not Romanians. Totally and utterly disgusting and racist and not what an establishment in a multicultural area like Barking should be upholding. Inclusivity for all!!!

An absolutely fantastic restaurant, don't go to them because they might refuse to serve you, as was the case with us! I arrived at 9:30-9:35 and they said that they no longer take orders as they close at 23:00

My experience was very bad at La masă. The music was very loud and I had to tell them twice to do something about this problem. Also the table was covered with a dirty and oily paper face , when I asked for a bottle of wine the served us with some sticky glasses that smelled very bad . Mostly of the important food from menu they didn't had . For example they didn't had soups, dessert, pizza. What kind of restaurant is this? You have a dirty place , the staff didn't bothered to bring us quick the drinks and you can't serve the most important part from the menu. A guy from the grill part ( i think the owner) said it's sunday night. When I arrived there with my friends the restaurant was almost empty with two customers inside , so .. I think they just didn't care . Shame on La masă. I will never go there again. I'm glad because stopped the order in time because I can't spend my money on incompetence and indifference.

Is that a joke? Paid £11.50 for a dry sausage and sad looking fries, not even a piece of lettuce. Smoked Pork & Potato Soup was not bad, just very salty. Does not look romanian and also was £7 which is absolutely unacceptable. If I paid £6 for this meal, I would not complain, but spent £18.50 and just can not wrap my head around it. Reviews did not lie, I thought, how bad can it be?.. Avoid, do not make the same mistake as we did. Pretty sure all these 5 star reviews are from friends and family, not from genuine customers. We love the place. The food was very delicious but the waiter was a young lady with no training in customer services whatsoever or using the paying machine. She charged me twice and asked for the 3rd time saying error. Luckily I checked my banking online and I just grabbed my payment slip where it was saying thank you for your payment. I prefer to believe maybe was a young lady with no training and with no so bad intentions but I do strongly advise to be careful.

The food is worst ever . I just order meatballs în tomato sous and they was cold inside hot outside . I order traditional donats and cheese and they wasn't well cooked as I couldn't eat them I just return them back. Disappointed about the kitchen staff nonprofesional.

I use to love this restaurant because the food is really delicious and the staff is very friendly but today I was very disappointed. They had a live music with is no bad but they kept the music so loud and even the complaints from the customers they didn't care 😡 This place the prices are really high so at least you have to enjoy your meals but no. You can't even place your order because the staff couldn't even hear you. The singer was screaming and shouting but very far from singing. I'll never go back . ZERO ! TO AVOID !!! It's a canteen not a restaurant! Instead of belly soup, a long soup...grilled pork raw and with the color of a dead animal from hepatitis... I had 2 pints of beer. Beck's. A sourness, probably due to the "stinging" of the canva barrel around 2020...I caught the attention of the waitress and she asked me what she should do...:) I told her what she should do, she left with the promise of asking the kitchen (???). The answer was that there is no one to change the barrel!😂 He didn't even have dinner to cancel the £10 paid on the payment note....

If you want to remember Romania, go quietly to this tavern! Yes yes, this is the correct term for this location: basins/buckets in the middle of the crucible (water flows from the ceiling) It's a smoky atmosphere inside, you say you're in the bazaar next to those who are heating the grills The prices of certain products confuse you: £2.90 a water for half! (you can find it cheaper in the center of London). I understand alcoholic drinks, juices... a water is almost 3 pounds... EXAGGERATED! THE BURGER ..8 or 9 pounds...DISASTER! You get more money if you go to mc Donald's... you get the same burger for 3 pounds + potatoes 1.50£ = 4.5£ (approximate prices) so at.half compared to the respective pub! So if you want to eat mamaliga (2.5£) with fried potatoes (3.5£) and garlic (1£) you have "spilled" 7 pounds: let's be serious if you go anywhere to the Turkish, Greek, English fast food you will get something papa bun for 7 pounds! Positive aspects: the staff is ok and certain types of food are properly cooked!

Had dinner here on a works stop over. We had great service, top notch cusine (be brave try somthing different) and the pudding was frankly awsome. Lemonade made fresh for you is a must try. All three of us agreed that when we are next in London we are eating here again.

Tried this out because you can't eat in the Wood Oven all the time and had a great experience. We were 💯 the only non Romanians there but the welcome could not have been nicer. Food fresh, tasty and super good value at the price. Will def return. Not least for that Timisoaran beer 😉

Great place to try out Romanian cuisine for someone who is not familiar with it and also fantastic for a Romanian person since food definitely reminds of home. Definitely worth to try out and no doubt to return.

Me and my partner are vegan and the restaurant met our needs. We were able to choose from a selection of different meals. Some staff spoke limited English but were very helpful. Would gladly come again and try some more traditional foods.

The worst service! They served me sour beans, the girls are airy, and very rude, at least one of them is very rude, she doesn't come on time, don't pay attention, stay and wait and you see her on the phone, before the staff was much better

God forbid this kind of food, I just ordered two servings of fennel soup which was with noodles and peas with a taste of tomato soup, this kind of thing is a joke. I don't understand the owner why he doesn't take measures or taste the macaroni he sells, I would like to meet him and taste the real perisioare soup.

Great service, great place. Tonight I was close to closing time and I did not expect to be greeted so nicely. It didn't take much insistence to get served close to closing time. Very disappointed of the cheese doughnut ordered via uber eats platform from La Masa. The delivery was very late, doughnuts cold already and very strange was the texture of THE product has been over-cooked, similar with eating a stone rock

I ordered "La masa" pizza and they sent it burnt, it broke in my hand when I tried to tear a slice, the funny and typical Romanian part starts now. I called the restaurant to tell about this problem, and the conversation with the gentleman there was as follows: Me: I ordered pizza and it's burnt Restaurant: Is that so? Me: How do you mean that? How do we solve this situation? Restaurant: How to solve it, we have no way. Meanwhile, the gentleman on the phone asked the cook: "Did you send the burnt pizza"? and the lady said "no". Me: I complained to Deliveroo and attached a picture Restaurant: I will look at the picture. If you have complained, there is nothing we can do. Me: What do you mean, if I didn't complain, I would get another pizza? Restaurant: Yes, normal. Some disrespectful incompetents!

I’ve just discovered this restaurant in Barking and it was a nice surprise. A mixed of Italian and Romanian cuisine. I tried a Romanian dish and it was delicious. I recommend it, good value for money.
