Generally don't submit bad reviews - life too short, but was quite offended by this place. First ever visit here today, tho I often come to Exeter and go to lots of cafes with my laptop to work, and generally have a good experience. So went in and approached the counter, where the staff quite honesty looked annoyed at my presence. Was curtly told to take a seat, which I did, and then come back and order. Found a seat and went back to counter and asked for the £6 bacon sourdough sandwich and hot drink deal. Again, staff were quite unfriendly and then rang up the order and asked for £8 something. When I pointed out that it was £6 they looked really fed up and the manager tried to make out that I was ordering the wrong thing for the deal, which I wasn't. I then went back to my table and asked if I could work on my laptop and plug it in (something I always do out of basic curtesy). The sandwich came and had one rasher of bacon in it, and the cortado I'd ordered was the worst rendition of that Spanish classic I've ever tasted - 6 quid for that!! Anyway, I ate (as was hungry - this was my breakfast), worked for a bit on my laptop and left about 40 mins after I'd gone in. The staff completely ignored me as I left, even as I attempted to say goodbye. The bad food I can accept - its basically for students who know no better, so the place can rest on its laurels - but I was treated by the staff as though I was just some enormous turd that they didn't want in there. They were clearly students, and I guess it being Exeter, were of the spoilt, self-entitled variety who feel that basic manners don't apply to them? Who knows - anyway, won't be going there again!!

I visited Taco-Macho for a family birthday recently. The restaurant is in the upstairs of the Cuckoo Taproom so plenty of of opportunity for pre and post dinner drinks. Gustavo, Taco Macho owner, is a really generous host, his food really is utterly delicious and I could probably eat there every day! :) Everything is very reasonably priced and the restaurant space is small and chilled. There is also the option to have your food in the pub downstairs. Highly recommended!

Took lunch with my 4 year old grandson and wife on the 21/5/ in Exeter. The first impression were very “chic” venue as we hoped. The service was rather Pedestrian although ok. We ordered just one Pizza, and hot drinks, as we had planned our main evening meal already. The pro firstly: The pizza was pipping hot, and flavours were absolutely delicious! In fact, the best we’ve tasted since our New York trip in 2019 eating out in one of their finest Pizzeria’s! Cons: We were not give a sensible choice of seating with our grandchild. We were seated on bar high stools, looking out the window line abreast? We subsequently became aware of ample table seating downstairs after starting our meal. Only one tabled was occupied at the time. The Pizza was served on a platter, but no cutlery offered considering we were sharing? No serviettes were provided. No child plate offered? We had to request these items unnecessarily.... I also expected of any good Restaurant to be asked “ how we were finding our meal” as a common courtesy. In hindsight not the place to take children I feel, but as an adult venue it’s ticks all the boxes. The Waitress clearly needed to spent more time being astute when dealing with customers, rather than socialising with bar staff..... A very nice place mildly spoilt, by disappointing customer service.
