La Locanda in Ribble Valley

Had the most delicious meal here tonight. Everything was freshly prepared and so authentic we felt we were back in Italy dining at the very best restaurants on offer. The ambience was relaxing and very civilised. The proprietor’s attention to detail was faultless and we will certainly be going back. We felt looked after and welcomed.

For a beautifully quiet and if needed romantic meal and ambience. We were in Clitheroe for a family wedding and came upon this beautifully quiet romantic restaurant...the warm welcome..the wonderful charming feel ....the impeccable and professional service was outstanding. The choices of food were just divine and the quality and taste were sublime..we are most definitely returning and soon! Thankyou so much 🥰

Absolutely incredible, we were staying in Ribblesdale Park and could walk to this restaurant. We had the most amazing meal, the food was high end and exceptionally tasty. My brother said it was better than some of the Italian food he has had in Italy. It’s not cheap but you are paying for an amazing experience.

Lovely intimate venue with a high attention to detail both in food and service. The food uses quality ingredients and is aesthetically pleasing without being over complicated. There is an extensive wine list and beer offerings that are usually only found in Italy. Waitresses were very knowledgable and the food was exquisite, being sourced within the local area. Prices were very fair for the quality provided.

WOW! Without doubt the best authentic Italian food outside of Italy! Even the olive board + bread to start were the best we’ve ever eaten. The starters (King prawn, muscles, scallops) were cooked to perfection. We all had the homemade pasta dishes for mains and they were utterly divine. I finished with the most beautiful nougat semifreddo I have ever tasted. You must try this restaurant!

Dined here for a Valentine’s Day dinner and the food didn’t disappoint, we received a warm, friendly welcome on arrival, shown to our table, enjoyed the food throughout the evening great ravioli and tortellini dishes, fruit salad and panforte, friendly and attentive service.

Very unique Italian restaurant excellent food and drinks where you are served traditional Italian meals ( not a pizza or lasagne in sight) would certainly recommend this restaurant

This was our Xmas present to our 3 children and partners. They live in various parts of the country. Always good to see them all and spend time together.

We visited on a Friday evening at 7:00pm, as I have mobility issues the hostess kindly allowed us to be seated downstairs, for which I was very grateful. The service was slow but perfectly acceptable given that we were in a little nook and in no hurry. We ordered a shared starter of mussels in a tomato broth which were slightly overcooked but very delicious and bread for the table which was beautifully presented and tasted really good. For our main course I ordered the slow braised beef pasta and my husband, the Tuscan sausage with cavello Nero. Both dishes were underwhelming. My braised beef was bland with no seasoning, I managed around half of the dish and left the remainder and my husband pasta dish was very salty, he too ended up leaving around a third of his. When our plates were cleared, the hostess asked if I didn’t like my chosen dish and I was honest with her about its blandness. We decided not to have any desserts and asked for our bill. The hostess kindly removed half of the cost of my main dish and although I wasn’t expecting this, I thought it a very kind gesture from her. Would we go again, no I don’t think so but I wouldn’t want my review to detract from the restaurant’s other diners experiences. They’ve built a wonderful reputation and a lovely venue and for most people, an excellent experience, just not for us on this occasion sadly.

Everything was superb as usual. The welcome is warm and genuine. The food was delicious, fresh and extremely tasty. The suggested wines were excellent and competitively priced. I’ve visited many times and never been disappointed. A true taste of authentic Italian cuisine.

Having driven past this restaurant many times and frequently remarking that we should try it, we finally did and we weren't disappointed. The menu was varied with unusual items - don't go expecting pizza and carbonara. The food was delicious and the service was attentive and very friendly. It's not a cheap meal, but we all enjoyed our food and the experience in general. We will definitely go again.

Wow, wow, wow! We visited on the 30th December and our party of 6 had an amazing experience here. The staff, the decor and the atmosphere is fantastic and the true authentic Italian food is absolutely exceptional. We had a true feast, it was a culinary delight. Cinzia was so knowledgeable about all food and helped us choose great wine pairings with our meals. They also included complimentary raspberry sorbet as a palette cleanser and homemade truffles after the meal which was very much appreciated. The pasta starters and bruschetta were stunning, as well as the fresh breads, breadsticks and olive oils and vinegars and we all opted for the lamb and chorizo stew with creamy parmesan mash potato (a recommendation from Cinzia), we were not disappointed, it is honestly one of the best meals I have ever had. We cannot wait to visit again. Keep up the great work Cinzia, Mauricio and all the team, brilliant.

Sensational meal. Colossal appetiser. The starter - scallops, guanciale and pumpkin sauce, was perfection. And a beautiful fish stew.

What a treat! I did the 8 course tasting menu with my Mum. Before you site down at your table Cinzia talks you through the dishes you can have for eat course and how the Italians dine back in Italy. The passion for there culture really shines through and I love that!! This is a tasting menu that you will not leave hungry from!

We own a holiday home nearby, in the Ribble Valley. We pass this restaurant most weekends and promised ourselves a visit. On arrival we were met by a black clad, mask wearing lady who promptly took out temperature and insisted on hand sanitiser being applied prior to entering,fair enough.We were seated upstairs near the window (able to keep my eye on the car due to no official car parking ) Ordered wine and read the very limited menu,our starter was a delightful bruschetta, and for main my wife chose sea bass and I chose a chicken dish wrapped in bacon. Also ordered vegetables as these are extra, the pasta and spaghetti choices are limited to say the least. Both our dishes were woefully under seasoned but swimming in garlic lady in black said no salt and pepper on tables due to all food being seasoned by the chef. Then while eating the staff decided to rearrange the furniture around us as a table of three had just left,a bit off putting if I’m honest, all in all poor atmosphere restricted food choices and expensive for what you got. We’ve been here,but wouldn’t return in a hurry.

Finally booked after promising myself I would try this Place, Travelled from Preston on a Sunday for a table of 4. Arrived and greeted by the Italian lady owner who is friendly but not over fake friendly which I like . temperatures taken and advised us to sanitise our hands which was fine by us. The restaurant is a beautiful old cottage with a traditional Italian feel. She advised us on our wine selection and our orders were taken within 15 minutes of arriving… Taken upstairs to the small restaurant area. A very polite professional young man served us throughout the day and was a credit to himself and the restaurant. The food now started to arrive… wow…. Bruschetta was fresh and delicious. Selection of homemade breads with olive oil and balsamic was perfectly described by young waiter. Pigeon breast salad was again excellent. We then had the goats cheese with shallots. Prawns with garlic and chilli. Absolutely brilliant. Brought to the table were 4 lemon sorbet pallet cleansers. A nice touch by the restaurant. Now for the mains: crab ravioli. Ricotta ravioli with clams. Pork and beef ravioli. Rack of Lamb…. Cooked perfectly and tasted sublime. Deserts of chocolate and nut cake, pistachio semi fredo. Apple strudel. A great way to finish and 4 clean plates. The restaurant brought us 4 small chocolate truffles which started bitter and finished smooth and chocolatey. With all this food, bottle of wine and a few beers the bill was £190.00 which is excellent value. If you want pizza, garlic bread and all the standard English/ Italian rubbish that is served around the UK then this place isn’t for you, if you want authentic, tasty, real Italian food this place is a must. Can’t wait to return.

When on holiday in Clitheroe, eating here is one of our highlights! It is such a special place. Cinzia is absolutely amazing and really looks after you from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. There is nothing too much trouble, you are made to feel you are the only people there ❤️❤️❤️. They spend time, there is no rushing. The food that Mauricio prepares is scrumptious. He is a master of Italian food. Staff are wonderful, kind, polite, and helpful. We love this place so much, it really is very special. Awful customer service. Very rude. Left before I even sat down, waited for ten minutes at the entrance before anyone greeted us, then to be told I should have stood outside the front door until someone came, horrendously rude. Would not recommend.

Every aspect of our visit was sumptuous. I can not recommend it highly enough. We visited as a family (youngest 14 years old). A truly memorable meal.

What an amazing meal in a wonderful setting. I couldn’t fault anything about our dinner at La Locanda. All the staff were brilliant, Cinzia provided such personal and top class service, even gave us a beautiful drink for our anniversary. The food was fresh, authentic and the flavours were out of this world! We had 5 courses and each one was absolutely beautiful. The lamb was to die for and the steak was huge & so tender. The restaurant setting itself had a vibrant atmosphere and the decor was so authentic and rustic. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough, if you are visiting Clitheroe you must go to La Laconda! Loved everything about this place, first of all the service was excellent, friendly and informative staff, the maitre d’ and also the young waiter were both attentive and thorough but also gave us enough space to enjoy our meal.Then the food and drinks, we had about 7 different dishes and they were all excellent, especially the bianco lamb ragu, the maitre d’ even talked me through how to cook it! The large selection of Italian beers was spot on, as I love to try new beer and my partner said the Aperol Spritz was really good and quite strong (no half measures here!).We would definitely return here and want to thank the staff and chefs again for a great meal/evening.

Me and my wife have visited la Locanda on numerous occasions but the last recent visit was the best! The food has always been exceptional but the new menu is more than excellent! The welcoming is warming and the most friendly as you head upon into the restaurant. The menu is extensive and informative explaining where the Italian produce have originated from. I can guarantee this is the most authentic Italian I have experienced. The service is wonderful by all of the staff and very polite. Me and my wife order a “stuzzichini” which is classed as a small appetiser called pane carausa full of garlic, olive oil and Rosemary, it was gorgeous for a little nibble with a drink. I opted for the tortellini filled with Parmesan in a butter and sage sauce for starter... and my wife had the crostone with crispy kale, Tuscan sausage and mozzarella. The pasta was beautiful and luckily I got to try my wife’s, the Tuscan sausage was the highlight of the dish. We both opted for the chicken breast main with the scorched onion and onion cream sauce it was absolutely delicious as you can see in the photo! If you do not try the side of “insalata clada di patate” you are simply missing out... it makes your dinner. This restaurant is more than 5*. The drinks list is extensive and all Italian produce. I loved the peroni red label and my wife highly recommends the vermentino if you are a white wine lover. I just want to say thankyou once again, me and my wife will be back. Keep up the good work.

This restaurant was mentioned in the information provided with our holiday accommodation. So glad it was. Just loved it. Friendly proprietor and all staff. Nice atmosphere. Loved the building and the style of decoration and furnishing. Things like that matter to me. Our meals were absolutely delicious. The wine we had was also very nice. Very reasonably priced as well. Would definitely visit again if we holiday in the area again.

We had an excellent takeaway meal from La Locanda on Valentines Day. Collection was very safe and well organised and the food was very well packaged. The food itself was fabulous. My husband enjoyed the chicken livers to start and the beef cheeks as a main course. My seafood stew was amazing as was the white chocolate mousse with marinated strawberries. We particularly liked the fact that there was a proper menu with plenty of choice as other restaurants had set menus with no choice.

La Locanda is second to none when it comes to authentic Italian cuisine and their new takeaway service during lockdown certainly lives up to their usual exceptionally high standards. The menu is comprehensive and caters for all tastes. La Locanda has been our favourite restaurant for many years and now it's our favourite takeaway too. We have missed La Locanda so much during this pandemic and so then to hear that they were doing a takeaway service over Xmas and New Year really cheered us up ! We ordered for both Xmas and New Years Eve and had the same meal both times as it is our favourite when they are open normally. To start we both had the King prawns all’aglio, then followed by the fish stew for main. Both were absolutely delicious , the same quality as the usual restaurant food, amazing for takeaway. We are locals in Gisburn, but for those a little further away, a full set of reheating instructions were included. Complete with the bread for the fish stew. We are also so pleased to hear that they are continuing the takeaway every Saturday whilst everywhere is closed. We would recommend that you book your slot early for this amazing food.

We booked a takeaway on New Years Eve. It was excellent.We started with the antipasto and fish soup (although the antipasto was very good I wish I had gone with the cooked food as they are so good at this).Next we had the fish stew and the ham hock which were both very tasty and lots of it - very well presented considering it was a takeaway. Even the balsamic dressing on my mixed salad was a delight worth commenting on.Tiramisu finished off the meal perfectly.I know it was a lot of hard work for the proprietors so thank-you for all your effort. It helped to brighten our New Years Eve in these difficult times.

I have just had a New Year's Eve take away meal rom the delightful La Locanda. I have eaten here many times (during more normal circumstances not dictated to by the pandemic) but I haven't had a take away for a few years. I think that I wrote my first review of La Locanda in November 2009, and if anything it has got better. Firstly the quality was outstanding and secondly the price was very reasonable too. I had rabbit and my wife had prawns, they were both delicious. The starter was lovely too, and the dessert was superb. Restaurants (and many others) are suffering terribly at the moment but I am looking forward to La locanda opening again as soon as things get back to normal nationally. The owners and their staff work hard to maintain extremely high standards. I can once again recommend this top class establishment. All the best for 2021!

We visited for my husband's birthday. We hadn't been before covid unfortunately, but the changes that have had to be put in place to keep everyone safe and the business open are very good. The atmosphere was relaxed and intimate, it was like being in Italy. The staff were polite, helpful and genuine.The food was simply amazing, fresh, tasty, the best mozzarella I have ever eaten.Thank you very much we will definitely be back.

My partner and I dined here last night. I cannot praise this restaurant enough. Stringent covoid measures in place, but this hasn't effected the experience or the atmosphere at all. The 2 people who waited on our table were polite, happy and knowledgable about the menu, special mention to the young man. His customer service skills were second to none. The food was amazing, a selection of breads to start then chicken wrapped in pancetta with mozzarella, lovely new potatoes and fresh vegetables. Dessert was a lovely ice cream for myself and a chocolate orange moose for my other half. My prosecco was crisp and tasted devine. I would recommend this friendly restaurant to anyone that is in the area. We came here 6 years ago and hoped our experience would be as lovely as it was then, we weren't disappointed.

Quaint fabulous little restaurant, we had a delicious dinner to celebrate our anniversary, staff were so lovely and the food divine the exceptional chef delivered the best food I’ve had in an Italian restaurant outside of Italy , if were in the area again it’ll will be the destination of choice for food , you can safely book a table here and be assured of a gastronomic delight

We visited for the 3rd time and it gets better every time. We love it here, it’s so intimate and authentic and the food is amazing. I have read through some of the reviews about the service being frosty but we really do enjoy this restaurant and have always had great service. This is not a chain restaurant, it is a independent authentic restaurant and in our experience we have been treated well and left very satisfied. I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a meal with loads of flavour you won’t be disappointed!

Firstly, this place is the most COVID secure restaurant we have been to since lockdown. Temperature on arrival, track & trace... the lot. Anyway... this place is a VERY authentic Italian, they didn’t even have pizza on the menu haha! The starters and mains that we had were all very good and so was the service. The only critique I have is that the main waitress wasn’t very warm/friendly towards us or other guests. Definitely worth a visit if you are into real Italian food.

We visited on a Tuesday evening, having looked at the menu on the website we were really looking forward to eating some authentic Italian food and we were not disappointed. We were seated in a lovely cosy area with just one other table, we loved the private, homely feel and received a very warm welcome from Cinza. Our food was absolutely delicious, full of flavour, perfectly cooked and as good as any Italian food we've ever had in Italy or the UK. We shared the Tuscan seafood stew for starters, which was delicious. The beetroot and goats cheese ravioli was exceptional and made my partner very happy! While I was delighted with the Ravioli di Mare. For dessert I had to have the Tiramasu, while my partner loved the Apple Cake. We appreciated the palate cleanser between the starter and mains, and the truffles at the end of the meal, little touches that added to the feeling of being taken care of as you would in Italy. Cinzia took the time to talk to us about the food and it's traditions, like explaining that in Italy Tiramasu is eaten for breakfast , which sounds perfect! We really enjoyed our interaction with her and felt that this really added to our experience. The COVID precautions were also very well thought out and organised. As a couple who work in hospitality we know how challenging things are at the moment and really appreciate the effort made to provide excellent food and service in a safe way. The whole evening was wonderful, with amazing food and great wine, surprisingly affordable and best of all fantastic service from start to finish. We will definitely be back and have already recommended it to our family and friends. Grazie Mille!

This is one of the best Italian restaurants in the UK serving authentic Italian food to the highest standard. Cinzia, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable about both the food and the wine that is served, and the serving staff are friendly and appraochable. The restaurant is small and they have had to reduce tables to accommodate the current situation but this has made no difference to the atmosphere particularly on a busy Saturday night. Definitely the place to visit if you love amazing food within the Ribble Valley - we love it!

This is a small restaurant which has had to cut its number of tables by half, hence the lack of its usual atmosphere. These are difficult times and things cannot be expected to be the same with self distancing and noise levels reduced. We found the service to be good and friendly. They are not there to rush you. The food can only be described as exceptional and I can only say it is the best Italian restaurant I have ever been in. It is all freshly made and the flavours are delicious. I only wish I lived nearer and I would be there every week. In relation to the previous post about the step which leads down into the restaurant area, this is pointed out to you and it is also marked with tape to warn you. It is an old building and I never felt unsafe. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Our first restaurant visit since lockdown. If you enjoy authentic Italian cuisine this is the place for you. Friendly atmosphere within a safe environment. The staff are extremely knowledgable with a good balance of professionalism and friendliness.

Please, beware of the little step, upstairs, on the way of the eating room. It is true that the lady in charge kept warning "mind the step." My wife went to the toilet in middle of our dinner. When she came back she missed the small step down the main floor (two inches?) and fell all way down to the floor. She hurt her knee. Staff never asked how she was, possibly a bit wary of us making a complaint?Food is good. Sadly all our dinning experience was clouded by the fall. Thankfully she is ok. I can see somebody falling and breaking a hip or having a significant injury.That issue should be fixed!!!!! Not safe!!!!

Firstly, the food is certainly not bad, but the overall experience is! The servers are devoid of personality and the restaurant is eerily silent apart from the outrageously loud restaurant telephone ring which echoes throughout the room. I was seated on the most uncomfortable bench that had a bookshelf behind it so I couldn’t lean back. The maitre d was both unfriendly and completely oblivious to the fact that maybe her customers had not been to the restaurant previously! We complained about a couple of issues only to be told quite sternly “well most people know” - apologies to her I was visiting her restaurant for the first time, and ‘didn’t know’ I’m summary, slightly above average food, poor service and an absolutely terrible atmosphere

Before I go on I would like to acknowledge the current situation regarding social distancing and face masks. I appreciate these provisos must be particularly challenging in hospitality. The food at LaLaconda is delicious. The menu is authentic and the quality of the produce is evident. We really enjoyed every dish, truly exceptional food. But a restaurant experience isn’t just about the food and unfortunately, we felt really unwelcome. When we arrived we were ushered to one side while another customer, who arrived behind us, was dealt with. We were seated upstairs, despite the room being virtually empty we were shown very firmly to a small table against the wall. My chair was extremely uncomfortable, but there were no serving staff visible to speak to, so I swapped it myself. Drinks were taken with a cursory nod, no suggestions of wine pairing. The menu was handed over, again no recommendations, suggestions or even pleasantries. It was literally ‘pick, eat and go’. This was the co-owner of the restaurant. If you’re not passionate about your own food and the experience you provide why bother? The room was stifling and to be honest we felt very uncomfortable. We have really enjoyed stunning cuisine (Cucina 73 deserves a mention, though it is sadly closed now), and a really fun, welcoming atmosphere. LaLocanda serves amazing food but the atmosphere is woeful. It’s akin to sitting in your maiden aunt’s parlour knowing you are neither welcome nor appreciated. It really fails to deliver an enjoyable restaurant experience.

Beautiful food at this authentic Italian. Have been twice and enjoyed both times. Lovely seafood dishes.Little extras such as sorbet and taster size soup are a nice touch.This is not a quick meal. You must allow yourself a few hours as the service is not fast, it’s more of an experience so bear that in mind if you don’t like to linger over your meals!Would highly recommend!
