La Caverna in Enfield

This place was established 1977 but these restauranteurs need to realise it's not 1977 anymore! The atmosphere is cosy sure but it's old fashioned and grim. The food is awful and badly presented. There is no offering of a complementary warm roll. The bread in the starter was dry and unpleasant. The melon with ham was pale and insipid. The pizza dry and tasteless. The younger fellow serving clearly doesn't enjoy his job and had to go out for a fag at one point. The other older fellows were friendly enough but the whole set up is stale and my advice is to step out of 1977 and into 2023 you might get some new customers that actually want to return.

Wonderful simple Mediterranean restaurant mainly Italian with some Spanish. Nothing flash just great home stye tasty cooking served by friendly people. They make you feel so welcome, we keep going back. I love the raviolli. And judging by the delivery guys leaving the place the pizzas must be amazing.

Even though the place is cozy and everybody is very kind, this is an Italian restaurant that serves frozen base pizzas. Never in my life I sat in a restaurant and I was given something that I could have bought in a frozen Isle of a supermarket.. Never again.

Service was terrible . If you order something specific I.e no sauce - waitress went to find out if that was possible - yes possible and you guessed it , it came up with a sauce. One waitress ignored us all night even when we shouted at her. Food was dry and then the bill came up and it was so wrong. Never again

While La Caverna is an established and well liked restaurant (lots of people hugging the staff and owner), our meal was very disappointing. No doubt the pizza here is good but the Lasagne was possibly the worst I have ever had. Looks like there had been no care in its construction, with using a basic tomatoes sauce for the filling rather than a tasty ragu.

Great food, reasonable, clean, and good portions. Friendly family run place. Will be back. Had the Pizza which was a monster. Also has a dig at the families Pasta, Seafood whilst there and will work my way through the Menu eventually. Pricing is so good for such a lovely place.

Booked for 4 for our 43 anniversary- have been there many times over the years - always lovely Sorry to say tonight was terrible- they couldn’t find our booking - but ignored by the waiting staff and left - tried to get attention no luck - couple who came an hour after us offered coffee desert- not us very upset - caused row between my husband and myself - the food was lovely but did not make up for the poor customer service very stressful. Never again not recommend

Great staff, food and service at a large family birthday celebration at La Caverna recently. We had over x20 for dinner and the staff did a great job serving delicious, hot meals to us all at the same time. Fantastic night. Will definitely return.

went again last night tempted back by the fantastic carbonara i had last time and once again it was great - i think the reason that this is not far higher up on Tripadvisor is that the majority of the clientele are clearly not internet users

Although restricted on the number of covers and not all things available on the menu, we had another culinary experience at La Caverna Enfield. Service and food were excellent, a couple of pizzas, chicken in mushroom and white wine and salmon pasta. It also seemed that they were doing a good takeaway trade. Let's hope they survive the pandemic as this is the best Italian restaurant in Enfield

Delighted that La Caverna is reopened if only for take out. Family pop round so we ordered our Usual which we would have had if eating in the restaurant every thing was great just as normal a very happy family great your back after lock down

Ordered a couple of medium pizzas this evening,and was surprised at the very small size. For the price I would expect something a little larger than 4 small slices..... Maybe that's just me though!

My parents started going in 1977 the year it opened I have been going since 1993 and still enjoying it. Introduced friends and they love it. The owner is lovely as are all the staff. Food is to die for. Thanks for filling my tummy with number 10 pizza, prawn cocktail and garlic bread.

This place has been around >40 years, still the same owner. Fantastic pizza's and Italian food at a reasonable price. Friendly service and reasonable prices.

We have been going to La Caverna for many years. Their pizzas are very tasty and in our opinion the best in Enfield. Other dishes are also of a high standard. The drinks are not cheap and the service charge is not welcome as we prefer to decide on what we give ourselves.Staff are friendly and helpful. Recent menu price increases make it just a bit too much for what you get.

Great food, nice atmophere, wonderful staff. Opened in the 1970's and I have been going there ever since. Eat elswhere but love La Caverna.

The food and atmosphere is fantastic in La Caverna. All the food is homemade and freshly cooked. We usually get takeaway pizzas, pasta and the calamari, which taste superb and occasionally eat in. It has a great holiday type vibe to the restaurant due to the authenticity of it, the atmosphere and the friendly Italian staff.I would highly recommend La Caverna!

Second visit, first not great so thought I’d give them a second chance! Reserved a table - they appeared to have forgotten! We were seated and it was our servers first shift! Not the greatest experience again. Couldn’t use the waiters friend properly to open wine, when he did, just plonked the bottle on the table and didn’t ask if we wanted to try. Asked for a shared starter, waited ages and then it was bought with our mains! We wanted the starter AS a starter, so sent mains back. They finally delivered the mains second time round after ages and ages. Can’t fault the food, service let’s them down. Shame as wont get a 3rd chance

After reading the reviews I wondered if I was in the wrong restaurant but as many of you know I give a honest review.Table was booked for 8pm so not to late in the evening.We ordered mussels to start but the restaurant had run out of them so I ordered a mediocre starter. For my main coarse I ordered spaghetti bolognaise which could have been cooked by a five year old as presentation and taste was non existent.My wife ordered carbonara which their again had no taste.As there was hardly any sauce and no gluten free bread.Lastly the house wine was advertised on their web site at £12.00 and we was charged £14.00.The good points are service was ok and there was a good atmosphere.

I first came to this restaurant with my boyfriend over 30 years ago. Today I keep returning with my now husband and family. Great food, great atmosphere and a happy place. One of the best in Enfield! The home made tiramisu is one of the highlights! Mullens Clan xxx

I ordered a couple of pizzas to be collected by someone for me, gave restaurant the order, the name of person collecting order.. once order was collected, brought to me, I noticed it was the wrong order given out, i phoned restaurant to let them know, the lady on the phone stopped talking to me, spoke to someone in restaurant (in Italian), a man came on the phone, said they had realised what had happened once order had left shop! ( why they never called me to have order returned is a mystery!!), then tried blaming the person who picked up the order!!! Terrible customer service!!!

Good value Pizza from an atmospheric family business. The seafood pasta is lovely. Saturday evening is normally packed so we do a take away.

I am a regular to La Caverna. I love their menu, it is simple but very well made and put together. The mussels are delicious! The service is very attentive and easy going. It is small and slightly dark so suits winter evenings - that said it is just as nice in the summer! Remember to book in advance though for weekend sittings.Thanks La Caverna - we love you

I love coming back to La Caverna, my parents used to bring me here when I was little and I still return for the legendary pizzas! A warm and lovely place.

Gorgeous little place. Everytime we go the food is superb, the staff are lovely and welcoming. Best pizzas in London. But you have to try the mussels too!!

This is one of my favourite restaurants , the food especially the pastas are incredible and the wine is very reasonably priced i would highly recommend !!!!!!

Finger licking foods and great fast service. If you like pizza then this is the place to visit. I really wish they had more parking options in this area but using bus, walking and biking can decrease the stress of finding parking.

We have loved this place for years, coming for 35+ years as a family. Now we have a young family of our own, we popped in and were really surprised that they have no highchairs so we had to go to another great pizzeria a few doors down. Real shame as we like to support long term local business but he had no alternative.

Have been enjoying this wonderful little restaurant for over half of my middle aged life. Even after moving 16 miles away myself, wife and family will regularly travel back to enjoy this little unique gem of a relaxed restaurant.

We go very often to this Italian and Spanish restaurant for many reasons: the people, the food, the atmosphere. Everybody hug the staff at their arrival, all the staff is very friendly and smiling, specially Stefano. You also can enjoy very good food a very good price.

This restaurant was established in 1977 and I have been going there with my friends since it opened. I recommend the Brad Special (hot) you won't be disappointed !

Yet again a fantastic meal in this superb little restaurant it never fails to deliver great food great service fantastic atmosphere just love this place I always pop in after finishing work on a Saturday after a long day I have always been lucky to get a table this Saturday the place was buzzing with lots of table reserve on them but they manage to find us a table The tiramisu is to die for do no hesitation to try it we will be returning very soon

I have known Luis and Rosa for many years. While working with Luis in the past at The Enfield War Memorial hospital, he mentioned to me that he was going to open a Pizza restaurant? Hasn't he done well? When I finally got into The Caverna after a 1 and a half hour of queuing as in those days the queue went around the corner for his Pizzas we were greeted with a selection of mouth watering food that has to this day brought back regular clients and new clients to this wonderful family restaurant. Last winter I visited this restaurant for the first time and I have been many times since then. The food always tastes good and is great value for money. The restaurant has a friendly family atmosphere. I can thoroughly recommend it.

Despite living in Enfield most of my life I’m ashamed to say I had never been here before!

Absolutely love this place. Discovered La Caverna about a year ago and now visit at least once a fortnight.

I have been going here for about 30 years and its always lovely. Great food at reasonable prices with friendly staff and and a good atmosphere.

Returned to La Caverna after a few years. Still good food and friendly staff. Very large selection of dishes in both the pasta and pizza side of the menu also they had muscles which where very good. Meals are around £8 which is quite good would definitely recommend and this I’ll be back soon.

We visited this restaurant on a weekday evening and had a very pleasant meal. The portion sizes for the pasta dishes were generous as were the sizes of the pizza's. Staff were very attentive and friendly.

I lived in Italy for a few years and everytime I come here it always feels like I'm back there. The food is traditional, tasty Italian comfort food. Even when it is busy it still has a lovely atmosphere, so welcoming and cosy and the staff make you feel right at home. A wonderful place. Highly recommended.

We love going to La Caverna. The food is always delcious and the owner and staff are always welcoming. It’s places like this that make a neighbourhood. If you haven’t tried it, you must.

First and last time of visiting. Shambolic service. Rude staff. One starter out of 5 wrong and 3 mains out of 6 wrong. One meal had a hair embedded in it. We told the waiter he snapped "impossible, chef is bald" No sorry no nothing. Same waiter visibly crossed himself everytime he came to the table. The owner came with the bill at the end, plonked it down and then said to a member of our party "its been 4 years since you last came , we haven't missed you a bit. You always complain". We were gobsmacked as it was untrue and said is this how you treat your customers?. Owner told us very clearly he didnt care. Restaurant is very dated, quite shabby and dirty with very limited food and drinks menu. 2 other independent Pizza places just a few doors away will get out custom

I can only say that I had the worst meal I have ever experienced and would never go back even if you paid me double.

Lovely cosy restaurant, really welcoming atmosphere. The pizzas are so tasty, and the portions are generous. It makes you feel like you're in Italy on holiday. Will be back.

I was there for my 60th birthday. My nephew had hair in his food, my husband got the wrong food and I had to wait for my food whilst everybody else had nearly finished theirs. Owner offered no apology and accused my husband of complaining every time we went in there. This is complete fabrication. I have been going there since 1977 and have always had a nice meal/takeaway. Would not recommend it now, A restaurant to avoid in my opinion

we booked a week ago a table at La Caverna, a restaurant we have visited a number of times in the past. We had always enjoyed our experience hence why we kept on going back. Our Saturday night meal was a birthday celebration. We arrived 15 minutes early to find a packed restaurant. When we mentioned our name and our booking, the staff all began to look a bit sheepish. To cut a long story short, it appears that they gave our table to someone else. If we were late we could understand that but we were early. We did not receive an apology we were told to 'wait approx. an hour' for a table to come free. Needless to say we did not stay. We have never experienced this at any restaurant ever. I doubt we will ever go back.

I have been coming here for over 30 years and I wish I could go more often as I have moved further away. This menu is traditional and so good it has not changed much since I was a small boy. Excellent staff and a must see if you are in the area

I have visited this restaurant for many many years!! I used to go here when I was a little girl, my husband and I were regulars (at least once a month) whilst we were dating and now we enjoy coming here with our young children.

Visited here lots of times. Always buzzy and great authentic wholesome Italian food. Nothing fancy just yummy and fun. All you’d want for a fun night out and great food. Love this place.

Lovely, traditional Italian food.

The food was of high standard, the waiter/waitress were polite, courteous, and patient in taking the orders of choice from the menu. Waiting time was minimal, and the main course was served piping hot. Portions were very good.

Dined for a small celebration, having first visited 15 years ago. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly and the food was good quality and well priced. We particularly enjoyed the Mussels and the Carbonara both washed down with a lovely and fairly priced Chianti. Will certainly be back.

I have dined here a few times and each occasion the service hasn't been the best, and on the last occasion I was asked to move tables. The price and food quality makes up for the service and would recommend the Linguine Ionicheo.

Wish we had a restaurant like this in the Cotswolds! We come here when visiting my son in Enfield. A warm friendly welcome and great food especially the mussels and the fresh salads and of course fabulous pizza. A little gem!

La Cavern never disappoints. I don't visit as much as I'd like but everyone I do, it's fabulous. Attentive, polite and friendly staff. Fantastic food. Try the mussels, they're the best! The house white is very good. All in all a great night.

If you like Italian, you'll love La Caverna. The pizzas have been made with an unchanged recipe since they opened in 1977. Takeaway or eating in, you'll love what they serve.The staff are fabulous and really look after you.

Another lovely meal at Lou's. Best lasagne in any restaurant anywhere. We've been going here for over 30 years and have never had a substandard dish. Oh, and the service is excellent and the house wine is, apparently, too. Thanks, Lou :)

After 8 years we have just moved away from Enfield so I wanted to leave this review as a thank you to the wonderful La Caverna and staff. We had become regulars at this restaurant, always greeted with a smile and wonderful, i'd say, Italian comfort food. Great Pizza and pasta, and superb service. Once we had our little girl the staff bent over backwards to accommodate us whenever we showed up with or without a booking. I wish this restaurant every future success.

We had an early dinner and we're made to feel most welcome by the staff. They were very accommodating with kids food and served generous portions. Nice for a family meal a nice alternative to the large high street chains.

Last used La Caverna 17 years ago as we moved away & so much has not changed ( which is fantastic). Family run with simple and amazing food . I went there first in1980 & have just realised how much I have missed it. The family remembered us and helped to make the night so special for me and my wife.

Went over for tea this week and found that nothing much had changed including the menu and price . Great service

Ho mangiato diverse sere in questo ristorante trovandomi in zona per lavoro. Posto molto semplice come arredamento con tanti tavoli in poco spazio. Personale molto cordiale e il titolare, Stefano, che ti mette subito a tuo agio.Diversi piatti della cucina italiana un pò (purtroppo) adattati al gusto inglese, vedi il sugo all'amatriciana con i funghi.Buone le cozze, la pasta a volte scappa di cottura però nel complesso una buona cucina.

I called up to make a booking for 2 on a Friday evening, we were seated pretty much after we got there. The guy behind the bar gave my daughter some minty chocolates, so that made her happy lol. (She's 8) we ordered our soft drinks and then we ordered a Spaghetti Bolognase for me and daughter had a pizza named Paesena (olives,salami,anchovies,0nions and extra cheese). And boy did they give us extra cheese . Spagbol was tasty and the cheesy garlic bread was good. The staff at LaCaverna are very friendly and I would recommend to place to anyone who likes good food in a relaxing setting. We will be back soon!

Great family run restaurant. Been around for many many years so must be doing something right. Food is fresh and tasty. Also good value for money. We had a party of 8 people all ate starters and mains plus couple bottles of wine and other drinks and all came to just under £200.Would definatly come back here and would recommend!

We have been going to La Caverna for many years and always have a decent meal staff always friendly and owner always manages to spent time talking to all his customers value for money little restaurant with outstanding home made dessert when available unfortunately for us this last time this was not the case but hopefully on our next visit !!

On of my favourite restaurants in Enfield. The food is amazing, the wine even better. The staff is always friendly and helpfull and the prices reasonable. I highly recommend that you pay them a visit if you haven't done so far. You're not going to regret it. Amazing place.

My first visit to this long established restaurant for a friend's birthday on a Monday night! The waitress was attentive without being invasive. Menu is varied and portions excellent. When requesting about a choice of wine from staff there was a friendly suggestion as to what would benefit my food and it was excellent. Mussells, tuna steak, pasta dishes etc, all arrived hot and were very well priced. Will definitely revisit this place and wish there were more family run restaurants like this.

The base of the pizza my husband and I ordered were thick and bread like. Not the traditional thin fresh base we were expecting and the pizza had no flavour apart from chilli on my husbands. I would not order pizza / garlic bread from there if you are expecting a traditional Italian pizza.

Had meal with wife today, 2 starters 2 mains 1 desert and bottle of wine. Food was piping hot and very tasty. Wine good quality and keenly priced. All for £64.

Never eaten here before, but another member of my family has. Quite basic surrounding - no frills in the decor department. I ordered garlic bread with cheese to start and what came looked like a bread roll loaded with garlic and cheese, reasonably tasty, but not the usual ciabatta style that I have eaten before. Pizza was my main course, good amount of toppings, but quite a thick crust which was difficult to cut. Wine not too badly priced. They automatically added a service charge - shame there wasn't too much service. All in all a rather average Italian. I doubt I would visit again

If you want a simple, cosy family-run restaurant then this place is for you. The menu says that they serve Italian and Spanish, but I could not see any Spanish food. The pizza I had tasted nice, so have no complaints about the food.The service was okay, nothing to write home about.Overall it was okay. Not bad, not great, but middle of the road.

Not the best experience that one can have in an Italian restaurant. The food was ok, but nothing special. The service could have been a little better given the fact I ordered a bottle of the most expensive wine along with some cocktails. There was no atmosphere at all, but this may be due to day and time of the eve. All in all, I may give this place another try. Besides, there are not many Italian restaurants in Enfield to choose from.

we decided to go to this restaurant whilst staying in Enfield for a couple of days. we wanted Italian food, and this restaurant had excellent reviews. we booked a table via phone, which wasnt ready when we arrived. we were then seated and given menus. 20 minutes later, we were still awaiting a waiter/waitress asking if we wanted a drink. i kept looking at them to get some attention to no avail.eventually our order was taken, after i asked the waitress if i could order - she looked at me like an alien! no customer service skills at all.she then forgot to bring our drinks - red wine, and i had to remind her 10 minutes later. we ordered garlic bread to start - this came as a breadcake cut in half with cheese and garlic on toasted! not at all what i would expect in a traditional italian restaurant ( i expected the round pizza dough based ones traditional in italians). we both ordered pizzas for mains - these were nice, but distinctly average.twice we had to order drinks again, no one was watching if we needed refils or bothered asking if our meal was ok. i was disappointed when the bill arrived with a 10% service charge - we did not get good service to warrant this.. i feel the restaurant did not live up to previous reviews, and would not bother going again.

Went for my daughters birthday, food was spot on lovely atmosphere, friendly staff .It's a bit pricey but for a really good Italian you expect to pay a bit more.

This is a great local restaurant. The menu isn't huge but I always enjoy the food. Its well cooked the staff are lovely and you can get the food to take away. I don't think I have ever had a bad time here and the fact that we can walk here is brilliant. They are also vey child friendly.

Have been going here since a year old and it has never let me down in all these 39 years. Even though have moved to Dorset i always go if in London. Always have a 13 with ham instead of bacon and cherish the smell and taste but this time it just was not the same. Cheddar was not used and red onions instead of white - i just lost one of my favorite things in life yet it was still a lovely pizza.If you have never been you should. Hopefully the next time i go they will have the old inglese back to its best.

You know what your getting here,its been in same hands ever since it started in late 1960's,it can be noisy, but always cozy,The food isn't the cheapest, service is added too, but if you stick to what "I think" Caverna does best the pasta! its good and reasonable , my favourite starter is hurvaes plater? (eggs on plate) dip bread in juice!! Magic!! Followed by "spaghetti carbonara", creamy sauce ,intermingled with small pieces of bacon,heaven!! And washed down with sangria, perfect meal for a daydream about Porto soller!!(before tunnel)Oops I'm back!! Last night we had 3xspaghettis (Bolognas & carbonara) 1ltr sangria (£12,)& £3.80 service came to £41That's Caverna at its best,there are more expensive main course's of course,but its at its best with the med pastas & pitsaGo relaxed!! We have been eating at this family run restaurant for the last 20years. We have never been disappointed by either the food or service. We have eaten there as a couple, with a small baby, with extended family and friends

We visited on a Saturday night and whilst they were busy, they found us a table immediately and the service was friendly and prompt. It was our first visit and we will certainly go again. The food was fresh-tasting, and boldly flavoured. I had mussels in a tomato and herb sauce, which were as good as any I've ever had. The lamb cutlets were superb, charred on the outside and meltingly tender inside. My husband's tuna steak with tomato and caper sauce was perfectly cooked (medium, as requested) and the flavours were luscious. The food, service and warm atmosphere made this a superb evening and one we will certainly repeat.

We booked a table at La Caverna and arrived on time. After waiting at the entrance for a good 5 minutes (in full view of the staff) we had to ask someone to come and speak to us. They said our table wasn't quite ready and could we wait a little longer.We waited for another 10 minutes after which we had to ask the staff for an update. They then said that actually they couldn't give us a table and were sorry. I'm afraid I can't have any confidence in a restaurant that can't guarantee you'll have a table even when you've booked. Very disappointing.
