Went tonight with Girlfriend and kids had the 3 course great service and the food is excellent definitely go again

We came here for my girlfriend's 30th, great food and service, very friendly staff, highly recommend, looking forward to returning!

Ordered A bottle of wine and gin and tonic on arrival, Server asked me to pay cash as cards are not accepted at the bar????? Exactly. His excuse was if using card machine they lose money on transaction,then he mentioned its summat do with covid, By this time I'm scratching my head Then he said he could get manager to do the transaction on a sum up card machine he doesn't have access to it. In a nut shell A load of bollox, and the food and service was terrible. NEVER AGAIN.

I loved visiting this place, their menu is exquisite and their staff is wonderful.

Unfortunately after a reasonably pleasant meal, we were given the bill. 3 of our group of 8 couldn't join us due to sickness and we were then told at the bill stage we were being deducted the deposit for the 3 that didn't attend. We queried this and asked to speak with the manager. Who was extremely unhelpful and were told it was on the terms and conditions on the website. So we would definitely not be getting our money back. We tried to access this information while the manager was with us and this was not there due to a fault on their system. Even after he confirmed the issue with his website we still had no resolution so decided to just pay and leave. Not the experience you expect from a manager dealing with this situation. Never going there again. There are nicer restaurants with better food and managers. Response from Owner. We apologise for the your experience with us. We was unaware that the link we gave you to our terms and conditions didn’t work after finding this out we took the entire deposit off the bill. Once again we apologise for this mistake. Response from me to owner. You had every opportunity to reimburse our full deposit but insisted everything was on you're terms and conditions but. As we have previously discussed with you last evening. They were not and you refused completely to give us our full deposit back. You kept the money.

We booked a table for 8 people and paid £5pp deposit for 5pm and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. Unfortunately 3 people were sick and could not make it. The staff were quite miserable but the food was delicious. When it got to the bill they didn't deduct the £40 deposit and kept £15 for 3 people not turning up. They stated this was there policy but nothing was on the information they sent at the time of booking and the supposed T's and C's page on their website is broken (which the manager openly confirmed) so you have no idea of their policy and yet they are happy to rob you of your money stating this. How a restaurant can refer to a policy that they don't advertise or tell you about but are verbally happy to state exists surely is illegal. Won't be going back. Just to add to this the owner has responded stating once we made them aware that the link didn't work and no where on their website does it state their policy he refunded the full amount. This is a lie they did not refund the full deposit. If I was aware of the policy I would have no issue but we were never made aware and the owner admitted the policy was not anywhere for us to know about but still keep some of the money stating that's the policy. Shame on you for lying 🤥

We had an unpleasant experience last night. We had booked a table for eight, but unfortunately, three people couldn't attend due to personal reasons, and they never pre-ordered their meals. The five of us who were present had pre-ordered our meals, and we also ordered two bottles of wine and cocktails. When we asked for the bill, we were surprised to find that the deposit for the three girls who couldn’t make it was charged to us. When we asked the manager about it, he was neither friendly nor apologetic. Instead, he kept referring to the T&Cs in the confirmation email. However, that email didn’t clarify anything, and the link it provided led to a broken website. We showed this to the manager, but he continued to insist that everything was in the T&Cs. It was clear that he cared more about the money than the customer experience. I hope that money goes to the staff and not to the disgruntled manager

Delicious food and great service!

We went on Saturday the8 February for my granddaughter birthday party of 8 very busy but worth the wait food excellent a bit slow but worth it

We went for a 60th there was 14 of us all the food and service was excellent I would highly recommend

Charming restaurant with some really lovely staff & friendly service. Food was very tasty. Toilets are on the first floor. They are clean for sure, but have your wits about you when going up or down the steps. Decor is clean, modern & has a relaxed vibe. It certainly appears to be child friendly. We did notice a few children in on the evening we dined there. They were happy & well behaved. There's parking down the right side of the building & right across the road, there is another free parking area too. You won't be stuck for a spot. We do plan to visit this restaurant again at a later date. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Rip off! Went for the 2 courses for £16.95 deal. What they don't tell you is you have to buy a drink to get this and it doesn't say it on the menu. They also charged me for a little pot of tomato sauce to pour over my calzone pizza. Never been charged for that in any other Italian restaurant. I'm surprised they didn't charge me to use the toilet. £6.25 for a pint of Lager. Go elsewhere. There are plenty of restaurants that don't rip you off like this.

I had the worst pizza ever. The dough was raw and salty and it is not just my opinion, but 4 of mine friends as well. I would never order a pizza again in this place.

Only put 1 star because I can’t put zero. We had a booking at 7pm and were ignored when we arrived. We were finally told to wait at the bar because our table was still occupied. After 20 minutes of waiting, we asked when the table would be available and they said they would ask for the table back. Shortly after this, they brought them a cake and played happy birthday. We asked again after waiting for 30 minutes how long the table would be and the first person ignored us and walked away, then we asked the manager who was rude and told us they didn’t know when the table would be free and there was nothing they could do. At that point we left and won’t be returning. If you’re fasting, La Cava is the perfect meal out.

AWFUL! Booked 14 days before arriving, arrived at restaurant. No record of booking in their diary. Plonked at the bar and ignored for 20 minutes. No communication about how long our table would be. After a 45 minute wait, only when ASKED, we were told no table for an hour and 10 minutes. RUDE staff who avoided eye contact. Had our heavily pregnant Aunt stand with no offer of a seat!!…. If you PRE BOOK, you might want to check they actually record it. However, communication and service with a smile was non existent and NO apology given. We left. And will not return.

Where do I start… I would love to give a review on the food but they were so poor we didn’t get any Table booked at 7pm, the minutes went by and after 30 of them they told us it still wasn’t ready and the manager was as useful as northern trains and they just said ‘delayed’ We needed to pay a £5pp deposit for the booking and fortunately got it back. Our £45 has now gone towards building a well in Ethiopia so they get 1 star for helping the water crisis in Africa.

Absolute shambles , we reserved a table for 9 3-4 weeks before our booking, paid a deposit the week before and pre-order as requested. When we arrived the place was chaotic, after 20 minutes we managed to order a drink and after 45 minutes our table still wasn’t ready. The staff told us the table would be ready in 5 minutes and then served cake to the party on the table we had booked . We gave up eventually , even the owner wasn’t in control and no one was either apologetic or actually tried to solve the problem , they just expected us to wait . At least 2 other parties were in the state as us - please avoid this restaurant unless your are on a diet .

Great food, good value on special menu. Service 1st class.

La Cava is one of my main goto restaurants in Hindley. Service is always fantastic and the food is exceptional.

Been coming for years, food is always lovely and good prices; waiters are always friendly and manager is always lovely and understanding. Highly recommend visiting, in my opinion best italian in hindley/wigan. Will always revisit.

Booked a table for 2 , the music was blasting so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. The waiter didn't know what draught beers they had on, my husbands chicken was rubbery and overcooked so he sent it back, mine was nice, but then the waiter snatched my plate away and I hadn't finished...I was just having a minute, but instead of saying have you finished was everything ok, he just leant over me and took it, wont go back I'm afraid.

Food was very good however the waiting staff could probably use a bit more training as they didn’t know what disaronno was then brought it in a half pint glass

They gave us menus, then gave us a different one for fathers day.... Same deals but more expensive. Kinda like... here's what you could have paid. Then there was a load of shells in my food...

The service was excellent. My ham and mushroom pizza just tasted of cheese. Too much cheese. Couldn't taste any tomato base to it. The music was so loud we asked for it to be turned down, which they did for 10 minutes then turned back up again. Wouldn't go again.

Booked for 6 ,had to wait half hour to.be seated even though hardly any in restaurant, ordered drinks whist waiting that took.20 mins,food arrived quickly and heated as if been in a microwave, plates and dishes were chipped food was OK, staff very slow as if not sure what they weren't sure what to.do next.ordered pot of tea ,the tea came luke warm so they brought hot milk ,won't be returning anytime soon

Been tonight for a birthday treat and had lovely meals. The chicken risotto was exceptional. Highly recommend

Walked in and got ignored by everyone, there was people walking in front of us paying their bills before anyone even bothered to speak to us. Then waited 20 minutes to be seated even though we booked a table. There were people walking in after us getting their drinks before us. People being seated after us getting their food before us. Was given the bill with an extra 2 drinks and 2 desserts we didn’t have. Had to send the bill back twice as they amended it wrong. Food was average not like it used to be years ago when I came here regularly, standards have clearly slipped both food and service wise.

Booked a table for 6, we arrived on time and were told table was not ready. No problem, we sat at the side of the bar. However time was getting on. I don't mind 10/15 mins of waiting but we have 3 young children. So best to get seated and get food ordered. Anyway 40 mins of waiting and I'd had enough. Explained to the young lad behind bar we were off. Not his fault and you could see he was genuinely apologetic about it. In comes manager. No apology. Just an explanation as to why table wasn't ready which didn't really make much sense. Won't be coming back In a hurry that's for sure.

Firstly I am not one to leave reviews but I have to explain what I experienced tonight as I do not want anyone to have their occasion ruined like mine was. Firstly we were there for 3 hours which is totally unacceptable for 2 people the starters took what the full meal should have taken to arrive, they were the best thing about the meal but ridiculously long wait. Then onto the main course I paid extra for the sirloin steak and I've never been so disappointed I genuinely believe I could've cooked it better myself. The sauce was so watery and had no taste to it at all and the steak was like it had been in the slow cooker all day completely wrong texture for a steak. My partner ordered a pizza in which firstly came wrong which is understandable due to it being busy but yet the most disappointing thing is we never once got an apology about this and infact all night we didnt get an apology. This is the bare minimum you'd expect. The dessert was just standard you can't really go wrong.It then it came to waiting for the bill, it got to 20 mins without the bill coming before I went up to the bar to pay and they hadn't even started processing the bill, In fact the manger asked me what I ordered because he didn't know this is so unprofessional. We ended up paying the full amount which was disappointing I expected them to at least knock a few drinks off as a gesture of good will and becuase they have ruined our evening but they didn't. The meal took so long the table candle had ran out and as a talkative person even I ran out of things to talk about it took that long. All In all I definitely won't be going here on special occasions as I can guarantee it will ruin your occasion!

Food and atmosphere ok, but slightly disappointed with the initial service. We (4 of us) entered the restaurant. One staff was pulling a pint 1 metre away. 2 other staff members came around the reception area. Not one of these 3 acknowledged our presence. We understand it was probably busy, but we would have expected that at least one person would have acknowledged us (a smile, a nod, an "I'll be with you in a minute"). This made us feel somewhat unwelcome.

one of me and my familie’s favourite restaurants. excellent service, food, atmosphere and cleanliness and never disappoints us. We haven’t been in awhile to La Cava but the last time we went was a few months ago. We love the host, he’s absolutely brilliant definitely recommend going here. A very local restaurant of mine, but is amazing as it has easy access and isn’t in an unknown area. If you see many bad reviews the staff are just having a bad day. One of my favourites and would definitely go soon.

Decided to give La Cava another shot after a poor experience a few years ago, really wish I hadn’t. Whilst the restaurant wasn’t very busy, the service was painfully slow. The food was okay, but the came time to pick our deserts, received the menu, then waited an age for a waitress, only to be told what we were after wasn’t available, then the second choice wasn’t available either, it would have been good to be told this when we were given the menu. The waitress was pretty snotty, no apologies and weak excuse given. We did order a third choice but after a quick chat amongst ourselves we decided to pay up and have desert at home, we won’t be back again.

Hadn't booked ..but was accommodated even though it was very busy..food and service was outstanding

We visited the other day with family for an evening meal. We found the food for the most part tasty, and plentiful, the lasagna however tasted quite plain, almost under seasoned, also the crouton biscuit at the bottom of the black pudding and goats cheese starter was very hard we could not even cut it with a knife. My steak, although quite thin, was cooked to perfection, medium rare and the Neroni sauce was very nice too, with veg cooked aldente. 👍🏻 The red wine tasted really good, this was off the specials wine menu, that went down a treat. We also had Limoncello digestif, this was served with crushed ice slush, it tasted truly superb. I have to say the desert portions were tasty but too small. All in all it an enjoyable evening, thanks for the service.

Really disappointed with our service tonight. I booked a table for 10 - 2 weeks ago - for my father's 60th birthday. I sent them the requested preorder document that they require for parties over 8. When we arrived our table wasn't ready, we waited for around 15/20 minutes to be seated. We were seated in an empty room upstairs that had no atmosphere, no music playing. We were then asked if we were ready to order, I stated that I sent in a completed preorder form, in return I received a look of doubt and a request to see the form. Therefore the kitchen had to make 10 peoples starters, mains and desserts fresh. We received our starters around 45 minutes after our booking time. Some of the food we received was cold, and when asked to be heated up we received no apology, the calamari was completely undercooked and we requested it be taken off the bill - it wasn't, I had to request again when paying. We didn't get any water for the table until desserts, and I had to go to the bar to ask them to take another order of drinks after waiting 30 minutes after finishing our first round (the round we ordered at the bar whilst waiting for our table).The younger servers were lovely, no faults on their part, but the host was rude, unapologetic, and frankly needs some customer service training. The fact it was a special occasion, my Dad's 60th and we were treated so coldly was quite hurtful and I feel it tainted what we hoped would be a nice celebratory evening. Food and service needs major improvement.

We booked out upstairs on Saturday night for 28 adults. I had pre-booked the meals . All starters arrived within 15 minutes of us confirming everyone was ready ..all mains perfectly cooked and hot ...can not thank the staff who waited on us (especially the younger lad who was taking drink orders all night....nobody had a empty glass !) enough. As always the food was delicious and nobody was disappointed ...our favourite Italian restaurant.

1st off let's say this the food is good no question, but the service is atrocious from walking in to ordering a drink (not food yet!) 30mins then they forgot we was there, (a ploy to order more drinks) to repeat the food is great. Ordered the bill, nobody knew how to use the till???? Hence we missed our taxi and had to wait 20mins for another all in all it s shame as the food is good (repeating again) but the service is shocking and for that reason I'm out,

Very slow unwelcoming service. Staff seemed as though they couldn't be bothered. It was an hour before they even took our order and mu pasta was just warm. Definitely won't be visiting here again and not worth the money

Lovely food and nice atmosphere. Unfortunately although the staff were lovely there were long delays between courses. They were busy and I expect the slightly slower service was a result of this. I would definitely go back and give them another go

Not been this place for years with the kids being to young but went tonight and loved it staff nice and friendly food really nice worth a try ill be back for sure bit pricey but every last bit of food got et! And the thick Chips UNREAL im ordering extra next time.

Food was good but service slow. Took an age to take our order. Had to ask to have our order taken. Brought us jug of water and glasses arrived 15 mins after. Was then given dessert menu and didn't see them for 20 mins, had to go looking for them. Place was lovely but cold. They had sat us in a draft. Think the chef had the back door open on one of the coldest nights. On the whole, it wasn't a disaster but sporadic service. Would think twice before returning.

Not bad if you like microwaved food. This restaurant should have been lovely as its nice inside and the service was good/ staff friendly. The food really let it down and they even charged extra for a tiny bit of chili. Disappointed. Would I go again? Unfortunately not.

Visited with family (6 adults in total) Our experience started off brilliantly. Fresh and clean environment Excellent friendly service by waitor and waitresses. All our starters were lovely. Delicious. Our mains then came really timely and all looked delicious. Sadly, my husband found a large twig/ piece of wood in his meal (beef stroganoff) He called over the waitress very discreetly and explained the situation. She took the twig with her and went to the cooking/ service area. The rest of us finished our meals however this had put my husband off his food. Nobody came over to discuss the situation or offer an apology. When our plates were cleared away, a different waitress asked if my husband wanted his meal to be boxed up seeing it uneaten on the plate. This led us to believe that members of staff were not aware what had happpened. As we asked for the bill my husband again explained what had happened hoping for an apology. The waitress advised that the other waitress was new and therefore apologised. £10 was knocked off our bill (despite the beef stroganoff being £19.99) How did this get in the food? An apology would be nice! Such a shame as we were celebrating and we all came away feeling very disappointed after paying £150.00

I'm extremely fussy when it comes to pizza and can't stand the generic flavourless bought-in bases you get at most pizza places round here - which is why I was delighted to find this little gem. Ordered a 'make your own' pizza with olives, onions and goat's cheese. It was brilliant: the base was thin crust, hand-made and delicious with a crispy texture - you know it's good when you eat every last bit of the crust. In addition, it had the perfect amount of mozzarella and mozzarella/tomato sauce ratio. To seal the deal, it came with the perfect amount of toppings which were all fresh and tasty. My girlfriend had the penne crema which she really enjoyed, as did I when I ate her leftovers. Our order was for takeout so we didn't get the full restaurant experience but the staff I encountered were friendly and fun to talk to. I am extremely happy to have found this place and look forward to eating in the restaurant - I just wish they delivered!

Food was really good and very filling after a large starter we struggled to finish our mains so skipped desserts as we was just too full

Food was good. Service was bad after 1.5hrs and only starter received I enquired how long main course was going to take I received the reply "you are not in McDonalds" we then had to rush the food because we had a taxi waiting thinking that 2 hrs in a restaurant was sufficient time to be served 2 courses. No apology for the McDonds comment.

Great food good atmosphere extremely pleasant and helpful staff very reasonable prices for the quality small car park at rear but car park right opposite was my 60th birthday meal and thoroughly enjoyed it .. would definitely recommend and will return without a doubt

Went here with my colleagues for tea back in December 2021. The food was beautiful and tasty and the service from the staff went above and beyond. Affordable prices that won’t break the bank. Will definitely return and would definitely recommend. Can’t wait to go back again :)
