Now known as Oh India. Krishna's was previously known as The Bengal. Before that the pub was called The Staffordshire Knot.

Having eaten here before, I decided to book a table for nine people. It was a Sunday evening at about 8:30 and the place being deserted, resulted in a strange atmosphere perhaps owing to the fact that it is a large restaurant. This lack of ambience seemed to set the tone for the evening and so it never really took off and I felt the food on that occasion didn't change the mood. As the previous experience was so much better and presuming that the management is still the same, I would certainly give Krishna's another chance.

1st visit and we were all very impressed. The food was extremely good, we could not fault anything. We arrived at 7.00pm on a Thursday night and for a while were the only ones in there which had us concerned as to whether we had made a mistake in our choice of restaurant. Before we left at about 8.45 another 4 tables were taken. We will certainly return.

A spontaneous visit on a Friday night with the hubby - we didn't feel like cooking after a long week, and this place popped randomly into my head as somewhere close by with parking. We'd been once before, but not for about 6 years, and thought it was worth a try. What an inspired idea it was too! The restaurant was very quiet - we got there after 9pm and apparently it had been busy earlier. The menu had lots of variety, and a good range of vegetarian food as well. We ordered starters - chicken 65 for me, sheekh kebab for the hubby - and mains - lamb and spinach for me, lamb shank Kerali for him, and sides of garlic pilau rice and garlic and coriander naan. The flavours were just incredible! Beautifully fresh food, artfully spiced, with exceptionally tender meat, all totally delicious. One of my favourite Indian meals of all time (and I'm generally a bit of a fan). Hubby agreed 100%. With the exception of the sheekh kebab, which had just two small kebabs, the portion sizes were generous to the point we couldn't eat it all. The waitress was attentive, and considerate. She checked with me about my starter, saying it was quite spicy and asking if I wanted it made milder (I didn't, and it was fab!). She was responsive when we needed attention, but left us in peace to eat in between times, just checking once for each course that everything was to our satisfaction, and clearing efficiently. When we finished our meals, we were left to chat, with no rush for the bill. Total cost for two starters, two mains, rice, two naans and two large cokes £45. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and we will definitely be back again.

We went for a Sunday buffet. The variety was decent, although my wife was disappointed with veggie choices. The dishes served were authentic, delicious and well served. I was quite impressed with the chicken biryani, which was a cut above many other restaurants that I have eaten in. The chicken manchurian was juicy and succulent. I very much enjoyed the selection. The dishes were a touch spicy, which my son couldn't cope with. Given that there was no a'la carte service during Sunday lunch, we had to make do. Overall, a good meal, but don't go during a buffet if you want a'la carte!

We have been visiting Krishna for over 2 years now having 3 to 4 meals a month, The food you simply cannot fault - best Indian we ever have, completely authentic ! I saw on a review here a comment about the butter chicken tasting like a vindaloo, It makes me really frustrated when I see comments like that, because the butter chicken here is the best you will ever taste, that is if you know what what butter chicken should taste like as in the punjab, perhaps the restaurant Moti Mahal and not a supermarket shelf. I normally have also the Chicken or Lamb Kadai as well which again is true to North Indian cuisine, extremely good. Staff are all very friendly and found the service is excellent . There can be delays, but so what, is it the end of the world ? Chill out a little for goodness sake, your going to get a taste experience like no other. If your expecting a £5 main that tastes like a ready meal, go elsewhere there are plenty about. If you know Indian food, willing to pay a little extra for the chefs time and skill, then come here, deep complex flavours, beautifully spiced. Lots of Asian families come to Krishna, ask your self why? Because the food is as close as it gets to home for them. Can't recommend them enough for their original, authentic Indian (Its not Pakistani) food. Well Done !

We popped in for a quick Sunday buffet, a few tables were already occupied by people of Indian decent but we were the only table of white Brits. Other diners seemed to be OK with the food being less than warm (almost cold ) but we were not impressed. The handful of dishes on offer didn't stipulate what the main protein in them was, so it was pot luck. Even my normally unfussy husband failed to find any dish he was impressed with, my children found all the dishes over spiced despite them normally loving curry. You have to order nan bread separately, if you're lucky it will come before the end of your meal. Dishes were being replaced as they were used but very slowly and things like the poppadoms were just crumbs where other diners had smashed them up for some reason. Dessert was tinned fruit salad in mango lasso which we decided against (too sugary). To add insult it was £2 for a tiny glass of kids squash, a whole bottle which would make at least 20glasses only costs around £1, so a massive mark up on that. We won't be returning even though it is our closest Indian restaurant.

All my friends had different starters and everyone was extremely satisfied with what they had. For the main course I had the Murgh Tikka Lababdar which again was absolutely lovely, the spices in a creamy tomato sauce with the added hint of coriander just worked so well together. We ate here as a large group, having booked for a large group, including specifying what food we wanted. We didn't expect the service to be so slow. It was an hour before we were even seated, the place was empty, literally! The drinks were very expensive. I got a few pence change from a fiver for two soft drinks! The food was nice when it arrived, although it was very hot, personally I was happy with this, but many of the rest of the party specifically asked for the food to be mild, it wasn't what you would call mild! There were only 2 members of staff serving and we assume to be 1 in the kitchen. By the time some of the group were served their meals, those that were served first had finished. We spoke to the staff about the slow service, and we told 2 staff members had called in sick. This happens, however various members of the group had eaten here before and said the service was always slow whenever they had been in previously.

Visited this establishment on Saturday evening with friends and children, this is my third attempt at this restaurant and there won't be a fourth.firstly the restaurant is very very expensive which considering it is in a housing estate they haven't taken the local clientele into consideration, this is why the restaurant was verchally empty.(this is Stoke not Cheshire)Secondly do you know any Indian restaurant that doesn't do a lamb balti ,the excuse was it would take two hours to make ,really.Thirdly we ordered buttered chicken for the young children,as balti wasn't available, very very mild .the curry that arrived should have been served in shuttle re entry dishes ,spicy or what, as I normally eat vindaloo or madras I found this spicy so totally not suitable for a six year old.fourthly the restaurant was dark and dingy, with water marks on ceiling ,could do with a good decorating and freshening up.I honestly think that given the location on a busy main road that the restaurant could really be something, but given the poor kerb appeal, the over expensive food I feel that it will just end up being another statistic, closing down like so many others.

I checked Trip Advisor for good Indian restaurants and for us locally it was Krishna's. I love Indian food and thought we would give it a go.We read the reviews and were amazed that people rated this establishment good. We were the only customers on a Friday evening and still waited for the meal. The plates arrived cold and the meal was 25 minutes after ordering giving us the anticipation of a freshly cooked meal. Not the case. It was awful. I can't give any redeeming features to the food or the restaurant. If I was to say that the restaurant was grubby, the windows smeared and dirty, the lavatories dirty and I wished I had left. We tasted, left the food, paid because it was our fault to dine there and left. To give an indication of its popularity the phone did not ring for the take away service. I am not surprised that the restaurant and car park were empty at 8pm on a Friday night. I do not take any pleasure in writing a bad review - this is my honest experience.

We arrived at the restaurant just before 8pm, were shown to our table and promply given menus.Perhaps it is worth mentioning that the restaurant was by no means full. We ordered drinks which were served a few minutes later. From thereon things went downbank! After a considerable wait we had to call the waiter over to take our order but as he spoke virtually no English he went to get someone else, the manager I think, and our order was taken. Eventually the popadums arrived but with only 1 pickle tray whereas we had ordered two, there being six of us, but another one was served a few minutes later so all well and good. However, at 9.30 our main course had not arrived so we asked how long it would be and were promptly served hot plates. Some ten minutes later the meals started to be served. My choice was chicken biryani and I have to say that it was the worst I have ever had in over 50 years being simply rice with a few bits of chicken, no almonds, no sultanas, no egg and no sauce. I asked for the sauce and this was served, some 10 minutes later, cold, not lukewarm, cold.At least two of the other meals were only lukewarm. All in all very disappointing!

Having journeyed to India many times including Mumbai, the Western Ghats, Goa and Southern India, whilst in India I have eaten food in beach shacks, transit cafes, enjoyed fresh street food from local vendors, invited to home cooking as a guest, hotel restaurants good and bad, low class restaurants, average restaurants, high class restaurants and don’t even look at the price restaurants in India, Krishna’s is cooking some of the best tasting Indian foods I have ever had the pleasure to eat, in this country.I was recommended this restaurant by a business associate, we tried it and was utterly taken back to our best experiences with food from their home country – India, influences of Goa, Mumbai and other Indian regions new to me ooze out of their food.I think to determine a standard you need a reference, I have a reference, the real macoy, and a lot of different standards too served to me too, I have in my mind the ultimate taste, texture blend of spice, and the secret is how its prepared, you need a skilled chef who understand the taste, ayurvedic - , Krishna`s chef is obviously highly skilled with much understanding of the flavour complexities, I applaud him! Now, if you think Pateks , or Sharwoods sauce is ok, nice even delicious, then you have not got a clue to what Indian food should taste like and that is the truth, in my house they are in the bin, utter horrible jarred rubbish. Also if you choose to eat out Indian don’t expect everything to be bland like bisto gravy, that’s not what its about, its about subtle changes in taste, its about freshness and texture, its about sweet, sour, spicy, creamy , decadence just plain delicious – Krishna`s delivers this !Is Krishna`s expensive? No! You reviewers who think this quality of food is expensive why not try an moderately expensive place like the Anoki in Derby mains are £17 see were your £25 all in meal for two goes there, you are just tight plain as that, please get a life or maybe asda madras it will only cost you a few quid and total disappointment, or you may enjoy!Unfortunately in this side of catering, you will basically you get exactly what you pay for, the skill is with the chef every meal, Krishna` have this guy, well done.In some other places the food is so very cheap and buckets of food too, its invariably rubbish knocked up by an off duty taxi driver having had a few days training by the mobile `magic chef` used to boost trade, you are welcome to that bucket of slop. I enjoyed every single mouthful of this food that they are producing, quality food expertly cooked, that comes really so close to the mother country its breathtakingly beautiful.100% recommended

The staff were exceptionally friendly and polite and needless to say we will definitely be returning with friends. Thank you to all at Krishna's for s great evening

What a little gem we found here.Staying at the nearby Premier Inn, we thought we would give this restaurant a try on the Sunday night. The food was outstanding & very similar priced to what we expect back home in Derbyshire. I can't understand any negative reviews posted - if you don't like spicy food for instance, then why go to an Indian restaurant? It was good to see a local Indian family eating here & that they were regulars. Krishnas is based more on authentic Indian dishes rather than the normal run of the mill Indian restaurants; the meals we had were spicy but at the same time, we could pick out all the flavours of the food rather than just the spices masking the flavours that is the norm at most other places. We found the waiters very friendly and the service excellent. Yes, there was a slight wait but the food was cooked fresh for us and it was well worth the wait.Drinks were the norm for a restaurant - both alcoholic & non alcoholic. This is a pity really but all restaurants feel able to charge 5 times the cost of wine, coca cola etc so Krishnas is no different and anyway, we know the prices beforehand.Bottom line; top notch Indian restaurant - go for the Chicken65 starters if you like spicy but not too hot. After that, try something new - you won't be disappointed.

We have visited Krisha’s around 20 times since it relocated to Hanford and I can safely say that it is one of the best places in the UK to sample really authentic Indian food. In my experience only Tayyabs in Whitechapel, or Brilliant in Southall come close, so to have it on our doorstep is an absolute joy!If your idea of a good curry is to pay less than a fiver for a one pot generic Chicken Tikka Masala then maybe yes – you should avoid. At Krishna’s you will pay more than the usual price point, but in return you get quality ingredients and a depth and complexity of spicing that will leave your tastebuds dancing for hours. There aren’t any dishes that we don’t like, but a special mention goes to the King Prawn Nimbuwali. You can’t get a better dish in the whole of Stoke-on-Trent. In fact all the prawn dishes are cooked expertly, and are so succulent as opposed to the overcooked and obliterated versions you get served in most generic curry houses. The lamb dishes too are also immense, clearly using the best quality lamb - our favourite perhaps being the Kosha Ghost, the lamb is always so tender. Our favourite starters are the Chilli Cauliflower and the Kurmura Jhinga, and we love the Garlic Rice too. Again this is always cooked superbly with every grain glistening. The Dosas (rice pancakes) at lunchtime are fantastic, (and cheap!), and the Sunday Buffet is really good value for money when you consider the quality of the ingredients, the complexity of the preparation and the variety on offer.I can only think that whoever wrote the previous review slamming the Sunday Buffet must have not spotted half of the dishes available. For those reviewers complaining about “language barriers”, then yes it’s fair to say that some of the waiting staff may have not worked in the UK for too long. Instead of complaining though, why not get to know them? You will find out that they are beautiful people who are really knowledgeable about their cuisine and the product they are serving, and they are improving every week. So, come on Hanford, come on Trentham, come on Stoke! We’ve got enough generic Bengali curry houses serving bland curries with substandard ingredients. Throw some caution to the wind and try something different and truly authentic and show some support for this absolute gem!

The restaurant was recommended to me by a work colleague from India, who said that it was like the food he used to eat at home. True to his recommendation I really cannot find anything negative to say about the food, it was excellent. If I was to be very picky I could argue that there were a lot of dishes with coconut, yoghurt or creamy sauces, but it may just have felt that way as I tend to avoid them. I had the lamb shank in rogan sauce (stunning) and my friend had the king prawns (which were huge and so tasty). These were two pricey mains, but there were cheaper available. The saag aloo side ordered was sublime, but again a bit pricey. My keema nann was tasty, but I like a thicker layer of keema and that is my only genuine (if very personal) criticism of the foodPrices, as I've already said can run on the expensive side, but you don't have to order the dearer dishes as there is a wide spectrum, but sides and extras could add up. Perhaps that makes Krishna's more of a treat for most of us.Service was good and staff were friendly. Will definitely return.

Called in on spec for Sunday buffet. Just 2 of us. Family of 4 just leaving. Table of 4 just starting meal. We were shown straight to the table and ordered 2 soft drinks. That's where the good bits ended. On each table was a small vase of DEAD FLOWERS!!The buffet consisted of stale chewy poppadoms with sliced cucumber.the ONLY starters were onion bhaji or cauliflower . Both of which I love .These were both incredibly soggy. The mains were lukewarm and very limited in choice with only pilau rice or chicken bhiriani which had chunks of chicken bone in. When we had finished our meal we were offered some naan bread!! Too late and no appetite by then however the other table accepted the offer and then had to remind the waiter to get it anyway. The waiter was obviously tired as he was stood at the bar area yawning a lot. There was 1 fruit dish for deserts, apple slices.Well, we resisted the urge to even bother trying them. The bill came to £33.80 which meant we had paid £2.95 each for a glaas of coke which actually turned out to be the best bit!!! Paid the bill, was not even asked if everything was ok although was told about 2 upcoming events which included a "lavish buffet". NOT A CHANCE!!! We politely refused a leaflet and wished we had not wasted a whole 30 mins of our lives.

I ordered a takeaway from Krishna's on Saturday evening. I had to wait a short while as it was Saturday evening, and understandably busy. Altogether, it was very nice, apart from one aspect - i'd ordered a chicken dish, but what i'd opened once I'd got home wasn't solely chicken - it had 3 pieces of lamb in it. I dislike lamb with a passion, so I filled up on rice and naan.Really disappointed, if im honest. If I'd have ordered a cheap meal, I wouldnt have minded, but the bill came to over £30 for 2 takeaway meals. Doubt i'll be using Krishnas again.

We popped in here after visiting family and were able to walk straight in and get a table. It was a Thursday so was not expecting it to be busy, but there were only 4 couples in including ourselves. A family was just leaving as we got there and it took the staff until we had nearly finished our main to clear the table as well as 3 other dirty tables around the restaurant. Obviously there was no one waiting for the tables, but considering how quiet the place was, there was no reason for us to be eating our meal surrounded by dirty tables! The service was slow, and I was very surprised when we didn't have any poppadum's before our meal.... regardless of whether they charge or not for them, I always thought this was normal? Anyway, we were not impressed with the staff, at times we were looking around the restaurant for them to order more drinks, but they were there to take the plates away when we were still finishing our mouthfuls! I can only imagine it is because it was so quiet?! I've given 3 *'s because the food was incredible! 5*'s for the food!! so tasty and plenty of it! Not sure if I would return in a hurry, might try a weekend evening in the future, could have a better atmosphere!!

When asked, we were told that the chef did know how to prepare chilly chicken, hence they prepared chicken 65 !! It took another 30 minutes for the main course to arrive.Despite the delay, taste was extremely disappointing. I have been going to your restaurant since it opened few years ago. This is our second time in the new restaurant. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has been extremely disappointing on both the occasions and the prices are exorbitant.

Visited here for my partners birthday with his parents as it is local and we hadn't tried here before, we were seated at a table with different height chairs which wasn't a good start, then the waiter came over to get us drinks and take our food order, I can not fault the staff other than the language barrier, it's hard to understand them and vise versa, I can only speak on my meal because I can't remember what the other had but I had a chicken tikka masla as I don't like spicy food I ask for it very mild so when my food was brought out I was disappointed to find my first fork full made my whole mouth feel like it was on fire again the staff were very helpful and fetched me a larger container of yoghurt to cool my curry down but even all that yoghurt didn't get rid of the spiciness so I ended up taking my curry home to politely put in the bin, it was £100 for four of us which compare to the £40 we normally spend when taking our own drinks makes a big difference. shall not be returning..

3 of us had dinner and shared a variety of dishes. Overall the quality of the food was quite good but the cost of each dish was more than most other Indian restaurants in this area, especially the cost of a portion of rice. Would we go back there? Probably not, as one can get just as good a meal elsewhere in Stoke for less money.

I have been attending your restaurant since it first opened in Scotia Road, where I was introduced to the Chef who was dressed very smart in his whites and the food was excellent. My wife and I visited the new restaurant on Monday 19th May 2014. I saw the chef in very scruffy whites, walking through the restaurant on his mobile. the floor was dangerous as it was lifting in places that could be a trip hazard, the table mats looked tacky. My wife's starter was burnt, mine had a stick in it that was inedible, the main course was not up to the same standard as Scotia Road. The waiters were on their mobiles, I had to ask for the bill twice. Sadly I have to say that I will not be going to Krishna's again. I never thought I would say that as it has been the only Indian Restaurant we have used for over 3 years.

I have got experience in dining different proper Indian and especially south Indian restaurants. The south Indian preparation that these fellows are preparing is pretty average except that it is generous on the PRICE and the OIL. I understand that the food they make must agree to the local British population who might prefer with less spice however this is compromising significantly on the quality of the food. the ambiance is fair. The new location in Hanford is fairly easy to access. Whether I will be visiting there in future or not. I have some reservations

Visited the new restaurant at Hanford - the food and service was superb! Very impressed. Although we ordered some of the more expensive menu choices we thought the good was definitely worth the price. There is a good choice of mains from around £7 ish so it could have been cheaper if we had wished. The only disappointing thing really is that the drink is a little on the high side of pricing but it was superb overall and would definitely visit again.

A very enjoyable night at Krishnas... We had a wonderful meal which was very authentic South Indian felt like eating at home.... really good starters tasted most of them, as I could not stop myself trying all the available options, had to come from Aberdeen to eat precious food... very very delicious starts. My favourite – “Ajwaini Tandoori Jhinga” - King Prawn dish which is the biggest served prawn I have ever eaten, so was really impressed by seeing and eating the wonderful dish, The taste was unique and fabulous – cannot compare it with any restaurant I have been in UK. My other starter was the famous "Mamsam Vepudu" - Spicy but as I love spice so much that it was perfect dish for me... my last starter was Sarsowali Machli Tikka - A unique combination of Scottish fish (Salmon) with Indian spice... Main Course - Tried Authentic Hyderabad Dum Chicken Biriyani which was mouth watering dish- the rice was long colourful had perfect taste and cooked to perfection.... Really impressed with the dish (Best in UK). Also could not stop eating more in spite of me being full, hence tried the famous Lamb curry called “Kareli Rogan Josh” with Naan (Garlic, coriander and chilli - a creation of my own). I was pleased that they have taken my order in spite of it not being in the menu and most importantly when the restaurant was very busy.... We had a good selection of dishes to choose and simply spoilt with choice which is more than what you get in a normal Indain restaurant .between the four us and did a little bit of tasting around the table... it all comes together on a large platter with the starters in the centre and the mains in little dishes... very well presented and the quality of the food was excellent, fresh and flavoursome.A good mixture of veggie, fish and meat dishes, which were explained and described by Naveen who walked us through the menu. He was also suggesting the spice levels for the dish based on the taste as to what I can cope with. I finished my meal with my favouirte dessert – Bolloywood Kulfi. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something a little different, authentic and most importantly looking for more than the standard curry, rice and a naan offering.....By the end of this review I am thinking I am foodaholic but it is true that I like my food....

We have been to Krishna's on numerous occasions in the past, at their Tunstall location and now at the Hanford location. The food one gets is authentic Indian as opposed to the 'anglicised' Indian food like a ' balti' or ' jalfrezi' one gets to order in the so called ' Indian' restaurants. The food has always been amazing and freshly cooked. It tends to be on the spicier side. If you'd like it milder , it's worth mentioning at the time of ordering. I'd highly recommend this lovely restaurant to anyone wishing to have a gastronomic experience they would I'm sure love to have all over again.

Tried it one lunchtime, it was good, aromatic and delicate flavours, not your usual balti-gravy-slop, this is 'South Indian' so should be very different from the usual 'Indian' (Pakistani) restaurant food. Then went back a few months later for an evening buffet... mistake - should have known to avoid anything branded as a buffet. Unfortunately they seemed to have swapped the chef out for someone who specialises in cooking up mass produced gravy from an Asian cash and carry, full of MSG, buckets of food colouring, very disappointed and may not return as a result. A real shame, but there are other places doing a better job that don't take shortcuts.
