Kothel GWR in Glasgow City

Our water was so lovely! He treated us with the most welcoming attitude, kindest personality and top quality service. He very kindly (and patiently) took a photo of our rather large family, he topped up our puppy’s water bowl and kept him calm and happy as well! Unfortunately we did not catch his name but thank you to the lovely waiter who served us on the 17th of July 2024, you made our experience fantastic!

The place had such a nice vibe and the food did look good. Disappointed in the service as they took about 20 minutes to serve us and we had to ask to be served. I got the pistachio crossiant which was the main reason we went and it came very very poor service. We ended up getting our drinks after we got our food, and only ordering two coffees and a water. Upon leaving the restaurant we said thank you to the staff to which none of them replied. Very disappointed as this could’ve been a very nice spot for food.

This place could be a goldmine because it is ideal situated with a great outdoor space, unfortunately they don’t seem to care about customer service. The food looks and tastes good but there is a problem with the bread to filling ratio. My focaccia Mexicana was seriously lacking in chicken. £8.30 is not bad but I doubt there was 50p worth of chicken amongst the filling. I also had a rose lemonade and was given a glass so murky I thought it hadn’t been washed. They changed it but even the most myopic of waiting staff should have noticed before it got to the table. Cutlery was also a bit school canteen. They are quite lackadaisical about service with some people waiting ages to have their order taken and others just in getting served first. It could be so much better if anyone could be bothered to give it the few tweaks it needs.

Today was my first visit and it will be my last. The service is slow and uncaring. My croissant arrived 20 minutes before my coffee did. The croissant was tough to cut through so uneatable, the coffee was bland. Staff passed by a number of times but no one seemed to notice that I was still waiting for the drink I had ordered, when I mentioned it, I received a cool look as if I had said something wrong. The couple at the table beside me commented about the awful service. There are far better places in the west-end where customers receive far better attention and service.

Visited on a wet day with a friend and my large labrador. Staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. Everyone received a warm welcome, and tables were juggled to fit in new arrivals. Great coffee. Cakes look amazing.
