This was my first time trying Ethiopian food, and I loved it. The place is authentic and very cutely designed. There was old Ethiopian music playing quietly on the speakers and the place was quiet and peaceful, great relaxing atmosphere. There was one lady taking our orders and serving us and she was super lovely. I will definitely be coming back as I loved the food, service and atmosphere of the place.

My dining experience at the Ethiopian restaurant was a journey of cultural discovery. The authentic atmosphere and traditional music transported me into the rich culture of Ethiopia. I was particularly impressed by the taste and variety of the dishes served. The injera (traditional Ethiopian bread) and various wots (stew dishes) appealed to my palate. The hospitality of the staff and their knowledge about the dishes made the experience even more special. However, the difficulty in finding a seat due to the restaurant's popularity and occasional slow service were the only negatives of the evening. Additionally, due to the restaurant's small size, some tables were very close to each other, which might not be ideal for private conversations. Overall, this Ethiopian restaurant offered a wonderful experience with its delicious food and warm atmosphere, but improvements could be made in managing the venue's busyness and the speed of service.

We have wanted to visit here for a long time and finally we came! We were warmly welcomed by Getenesh. The food was delightful and authentic. Quite a spice kick to the beef dish, but balanced by the vegetarian mix of lentils, split peas and greens. The injera bread was fab. Easy to get to from Fleet Street area on number 17 bus, or if you are on the Piccadilly line.

It’s reasonably priced, delicious, and operated by the loveliest lady who makes you feel like you are stepping into her home. If new to Ethiopian food, be assured that you will be welcomed with open arms and if not, that you’ll enjoy delicious traditional dishes. Great for vegetarians/vegans too.

I had the House special which consisted of Key Minchet Abish (spicy beef mince), Ye-Misir Key Wot (red lentils), Ye-Alicha Kik Wot (yellow split peas) & spinich. All of it had a fiery tastiness to it (she asks how spicy you would like it). The lady serving was really sweet & attentive, felt like going to your aunties house for dinner. No Tej unfortunately. The restaurant is decorated in Ethiopian style and immediately makes you feel like you are in Ethiopia. The owner of the restaurant, Getenesh, takes extreme care of her restaurant, customers and the dishes she cooks, and has been able to welcome us with warmth and hospitality. The restaurant is extremely clean and sanitized, tables are well distanced and Getenesh always wears a face mask: I felt extremely safe from Covid in her restaurant. Guided by her recommendations, we took the Vegetarian Super Combination, Key Minchet Abish and Doro Wot, all of which were exquisite and carefully served. Very fair prices considering the quantity and quality of food served. So, I strongly advise you to try this restaurant and get Getenesh to advise you on the dishes to try. Even if compared to other places in London it might be a bit inconvenient to reach, I assure you that it is absolutely worth it.

We had a fantastic experience at Kokeb; great hospitality from Getenesh, who runs the entire operation seemingly single-handedly while still giving each and every customer her full care and attention. Having never eaten Ethiopian cuisine before, she was happy to explain the menu and make recommendations for us and to demonstrate the 'natural fork', Injera. We can't compare this to any other Ethiopian restaurants as this was our first time eating at one, but we found Kokeb to serve delicious, filling food and decent beer with great service at a very reasonable price - overall, a lovely experience!

Dropped into Kokeb having never tried Ethiopian food before, the restaurant was quiet but this was likely due to it being only about 4pm and the weather was wet and windy, we were met by a lovely lady who we later found out was the restaurant owner/chef & waitress having opened the restaurant some 18 years ago and built up a large loyal base of customers from local and afar. She made us feel welcome and also offered to help us navigate what was an entirely new cuisine to us. We ended up having a spicy chicken and Egg wot with a variety of vegetarian side dishes all served on an injera. The vegetable dishes were lovely all with different flavours and heat levels the wot itself had lashings of spicy sauce on two plump chicken drumsticks. The injera was unusual sort of like a sour tasting thin crumpet it was an ideal vehicle for the variety of dishes. All in the food was great but the homely feel and friendly conversation made the meal! Oh and i definitely recommend the Ethiopian coffee for anyone who likes their coffee strong but refined! Would definitely go again!

I'd been told about this place by many people and came with a friend one evening. It's a short walk from Caledonian Road tube and relatively easy to find along a quiet residential street. The decor is spartan, although it has nice touches of Ethiopia all around, which was interesting. The proprietress was extremely friendly and busy throughout the evening. She seemed to be a one-woman operation, which meant that service was a bit slow, but we did not mind as we were not in a rush, though there were some significant time-lags on occasion. That said, there was one table - a party of 4 or 5 people - who seemed to know her well and my friend and I were quite surprised by how overly friendly she seemed to be with them - we overheard her telling them that they could not order some menu item as she did not have enough for other potential orders. I'd have been miffed if I were seated and ready to pay for a meal that was available only to be told I would not be allowed to have it because some 'potential' customers might want some. The table did not seem too bothered by this, and thankfully this did not happen for us, but something to be aware of, I guess.I am not an expert on Ethiopian cuisine, but my friend is, and she ordered some really good dishes for us to share. The standouts for me were the vegetarian options, particularly a dish consisting of carrots and green beans that was extremely flavorsome, and the yellow lentils. Some of the spicier dishes were a little too hot for my taste, but I still enjoyed them nonetheless. The spongy bread that is served is like really soft, chewy sourdough, and can be an acquired taste - I personally quite liked it, though a little of it went a long way with me.Prices are in line with the setting, with individual items fairly priced - though ordering a combination of items will set you back a fair bit, we found! Overall, despite the nice food, the slow though friendly service (and that incident with the other table) does not inspire a quick return visit. It's also more of a neighborhood, bare-bones joint than destination dining.

I am lucky enough to live near Kokeb and go at least a couple times a month. I've eaten at a fair number of Ethiopian restaurants around the world and Kokeb is my favourite hands down. Each dish is remarkably different with complex (and delicious!) flavours, the food is always fresh and vibrant, and the injera is just completely amazing (the wonderful owner Getenesh gets the special flour somehow and does miracles with it). Although it's hard to pick, my go-to dishes are the fule (even better than Dillas in Minneapolis), the red lentil (flavour explosion!) and the Doro Wat (chicken magically prepared and in a special berbere). Just there last weekend and planning on going back this week.

I ordered the vegetarian "super combinations" and that was 5 samples of different recipes and a great range of flavour. I fell in love with the "Ye-atiklt wot", which is a yellow split pea dish, incredible flavour - I even had to recreate it at home! This dish alone is probably what made me recommend this place to nearly everybody I spoke to! I dined with 2 meat eaters, they ordered chicken dishes each. I think, from their experience, even if you are a meat-eater, opt for a vegetarian dish....This place has great flavour and spice, very authentic decor. You're asked if you would like "injera" which is a sourdough flatbread, say yes! This bread is very filling, and as the meals are generally small , this bread will make your stomach feel satisfied, plus it tastes great

這是我第一次嘗試埃塞俄比亞食物。味道非常獨特。因為我們沒有預定,所以等了一會兒。我非常喜歡這裏的菜色,很好味!

Nice decor in a cosy restaurant, the hostess was really lovely and explained about the dishes well. Excellent njera and really tasty dishes. The vegetable dishes were really good so an option for vegetarians.

Midweek visit. Was made to feel absolutely at home by our host/chef. Treated us as if we were dining in her home. Attentive , funny , inquisitive and a good cook... She made dinner an experience. The food was good. A mixture of spicy hot/ and not so hot to cater for everyone in the group. Got told off for not eating enough after we'd had our fill. Worth the effort to get here.

First dinner there tonight - the host is great and gave us good advice on the food to take as we were not familiar with Ethiopian food. Great discovery as everything was delicious, suits vegetarian people too. really good value for money we will definitely go back and advice the place.

Delicious Ethiopian food on Caledonian Road. As we are not experts in Ethiopian cuisine we had to ask the waitress for recommendations and she chose a perfect meal for us and it was fantastic. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all, we will certainly be back.

Food was delicious, lovely family feel... Will cater for vegans. Really flavoursome and different. If you are looking to visit with a large group call in advance they are happy to cater and accommodate.

The food was delicious and the woman who owns it is the waitress / cook / everything! Most of my group who went are vegetarian and there was lots to chose from. It was the best Ethiopian I've had and at a good price.

We went here based on the reviews on Tripadivisor and found that we were one of two tables that night - there is only one person who takes your order, serves you and everything else. She refused to spoon the food onto the injera as is traditional. The food itself was just ok - we have eaten Ethiopian many many times - in fact we always try to eat it in bigger cities in the US and Europe and this was not the best. A neighborhood joint and not something one needs to travel to visit.

My first introduction to Ethiopia cuisine, and certainly not my last!We came in without a booking, and we're warmly greeted by the charming manager. She was very helpful in recommending dishes to us as we were new to Ethiopian dining.Great food, beautifully presented, and such a cozy, relaxing space to enjoy a meal. I will definitely come back to sample some of the other choices on the menu!

As newbies to Ethiopian food, we were unsure of what to expect from this type of cuisine. The host made a great effort to understand our palate and needs. Not only was the food excellent, full of unique and flavoursome dishes, but the host was very accommodating and warm. An overall fantastic experience!Try the injere and shared plate in particular - you will not be disappointed.Special mention for the foot-tapping music!

Fantastic flavours, very clean restaurant and welcoming staff. Having tried several Ethiopian places in London, this is the most consistent for both vegan and meat dishes. Service is not added to the bill but bring cash if you want to tip.

I went to this restaurant with my family to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant is small with a homely feel. The host/server was very welcoming. The food was fantastic. I have two children who are picky eaters, one being more picky than the other. Both children thoroughly enjoyed the food especially because they could eat with their hands. We are all looking forward to visiting again.

The food is quite tasty, but £6 ($8!!) to substitute white injera for teff one (for GF option) (which is the authentic version anyways) is a tad bit unreasonable. £18 for one person dish is on the pricier side of Ethiopian cuisine.
