Very friendly and cosy little pub

It was fine to pop in for a pint. They are selling various types of food ( Macaroni, Chilli, corn beef hash etc) which you are required to purchase before you can be served alcohol. Prices are sensible, and service was very pleasant. Very good.

Whenever I am in the Granite City, I try to have a pint in the Kirkgate, a traditional pub with friendly and attentive staff.

As someone who actually studied at Marshal College l can't help but get nostalgic everytime l come back here. Crammed full of history and friendly regulars. Your here for the atmosphere not to pose. Dart's of course and clean toilets. I'm sure there was more memorablea on the walls. They use to Kirk the new Rector of Aberdeen University in here (that involves a lot of drinking).

Friendly basic pub with great prices

Couldn't get served at approximately 3.15 Saturday afternoon even although it was stated by another customer that I was first. Won't be back.

Standard small pub, decent enough drink selection. Be warned though: It's **CASH ONLY**. Luckily there's bank machines (ATMs) just down the road

Great old-fashioned former student bar. No frills but original decor and good drinks selection. Straightforward offering. Good prices including pensioner reductions. A haven in the centre of town.

A lively and popular place, there's rarely a dull moment.

Haven't been there for probably 30 years... looks exactly the same from the outside, going by the photos online. If it's the same on the inside, it's a real old Aberdeen institution. It was a great traditional pub of mixed ages, lively atmosphere, a drinker's pub, not a place you'd go 'on the pull', though there was a good mix of females too, but just there to drink with friends and have a laugh mainly. A serious drinker's place right on the edge of the heart of town; unpretentious with a good mix of people, from students to scaffolders. You might of course, as a young student, or trendy poseur, expect to be mercilessly ridiculed by seasoned older drinkers, but that's how the best Scottish pubs were and hopefully still are. Hope it hasn't changed. I'm sure they used to sell cheese toasties back then, wonder if they still do.
