What an amazing experience, from the decor, ambience, staff and the impeccable menu! The food was perfect, the menu well thought out, the food was seasonal and the main ingredients shone through. The staff know they’re stiff, and the chef, wow, what a master of his trade! We will def be returning, thank you for making our experience so amazing. Def worth a visit, not just for a special occasion, but to appreciate good food. Thank you and see you soon xx

We have been to Kintsu quite a few times, and we keep coming back because it is consistently excellent. This time we were a group of five for lunch. Kintsu is a tasting menu restaurant and we really enjoy this format. The whole meal is a shared experience as everyone gets to enjoy the same dishes. Having a chef curate a menu for you to enjoy feels like a real treat and you are introduced to new interesting flavour combinations that you wouldn't necessarily have ordered before. We once again really enjoyed every dish, the menu flowed well, the dishes were flavoursome and well balanced and everything was of exceptionally high quality. Once again the service was excellent throughout. The quality at Kintsu is consistently high so we would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion as it can be relied upon to deliver.

You could be forgiven for thinking a restaurant with a set menu and no choice would be a challenge but this was a truly memorable meal. Every single dish hit the mark with fantastic flavours. The starters were large bite size selections of three items , the duck liver , cherry and gingerbread was for me the highlight of the meal with three ingredients that I would normally avoid, it was sublime. We then worked our way through six main course dishes followed by two desserts , each distinctive but as a whole it was superb. The tasting menu is £80 but for what you pay in other restaurants the premium is definitely worth it . I could not fault anything ,best Colchester restaurant by a country mile

What an amazing place. Tucked away in Colchester, this is an absolute gem of a restaurant. We had the tasting menu and every course was an incredible experience. Interesting and delicious. Perfect quantities . A very talented and clever chef. So pleased to find somewhere in Essex that does food like this. What a treat - We will be back. Highly recommend

Well, where to start . . . Everything about this place was just amazing. The staff, everything perfectly timed. A well oiled machine, without doubt. We were made to feel welcome from the very start. Every course was explained. You got what was on the menu, but not necessarily in the way you would expect. Every course was so unbelievably different to what you'd expect, which made the experience so much more enjoyable. We will definitely be back again. Kintsu is a one off in Colchester and deservedly so. We wish you all the very best and can only congratulate you on your success.

Not sure where to begin - an experience we can't find anything to comment on room for improvement on! The food was absolutely delicious - we love the fact it's a set menu; you get to try out new things you might not have been keen to try if choosing (yet leave marking those as the best course, amazingly!), service was attentive yet relaxed so we never felt rushed at any point. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived (and we arrived earlier than booked), a birthday card was offered, wine was recommended for the courses we had, everyone was all smiles and willing to go above and beyond. A special visit and one we won't forget. We felt spoilt throughout and can't wait to return. Lovely atmosphere and what a pleasure it is to sit and listen to some classic songs, nothing pretentious at all. Thanks for making our visit one to remember for all the right reasons!

What can I say? Kintsu continues to get better and better. The food is superb - with a wonderful mix of tastes and textures - and is beautifully presented. The service is impeccable and the staff are lovely. Everything about this restaurant is excellent. Long may it continue.

We went to Kintsu for our anniversary and were not disappointed. It was an excellent tasting menu, with a really good variety of courses. Very attentive staff made the night special.

Hidden away and recommended by a friend as I haven't seen much publicity for this little gem, off the beaten track in Colchester- which hasn't seen great food for the 20 years I've been here. Chef's table 7 course taster menu was a sensory experience. Usually I'd have these sorts of treats- and find parts of the menu we could have done without- but this was expertly crafted and every item on each plate spoke for itself. Layers of flavours and surprises, and reasonably priced for the level of service, quality of dishes and the stories of each dish. Local produce (a cracking Essex wine was a surprise winner on the wine flight ) and every dish well thought out and an absolute treat. I'll be back.

Not knowing what to expect for here I had high hopes, even more so when seeing it was the same chef from when it was grain happy days. What can I say so for one it was a very present atmosphere and you will not have a bad dining experience, the staff are all very polite and have no fault. Now the other side, this is a taster menu, nothing wrong with that at all as as mentioned all cooked very well, rhe issue is the menu did not really flow, it was nice to go from fish to meat yes, but the crab which was the best dish of the night should not have out done the sea bass which should have been pan fried not steamed as the source overpowers the taste of the dish. The big let down for me were the meat dishes, they could have taken the best from what they did before but no a bbq is that's what you can call it pork with onion, the onion being the best part and a deconstruction peking duck did not sell it at all, nice yes but not outstanding and when you look at the price per head would it be worth it in my opinion no, gold I went yes would I go again no.

We were staying in Colchester for the bank holiday weekend and booked the week before. We liked the fact there was only one menu with no choice. Nowhere to hide! The restaurant is housed in a beautiful old building and is very intimate. The kitchen is open so you get to see all the action and you can also book the chefs table ( sadly already booked when we went). The tasting menu was delicious every dish just got better and better. Not one dud! We will define be back next time we are in Essex.

Thoroughly enjoyable experience. We meandered our way through the tasting menu on a lovely sunny afternoon. The food was glorious and the flavours complimented each other always leaving a wonderful taste that flowed into the next course. The wine was delicious and we appreciated the knowledge of the team. The service was friendly and efficient and you can tell everyone is trying to build something very special here. We did not want the experience to end so finished up with cocktails and coffee on the the terrace. Special mention for the delicious tasters, perfectly cooked pollock, roast lamb and melt in your mouth beautiful chocalate dessert but it was all seriously superb. Thank you.

Once again we had a very enjoyable evening at Kintsu. Kintsu is a tasting menu restaurant and every single course we had was really delicious. This time we also had the wine pairing which added to the experience and introduced us to some new wines. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and service was very good throughout. Kintsu consistently produces really high quality food and it is always a pleasure to eat there.

Pleased to return and enjoy the tasting menu at the chef’s table. Each course was unique, and we found it difficult to pick a favourite but have settled on The Chalk Stream Trout and Cucumber.
