Kimchi Cult in Glasgow City

Popped in for a quick bite. Authentic Korean flavours served by friendly and efficient staff. Great value for money. My new go to when in the area.

Chicken tenders were perfection, chicken fresh and tender and batter beautiful. Snow cheese fries were luke warm and felt like they were a waste of money, for the price they really should be fresh/hot. Forgot to put my can of juice in the bag and only realised when I checked in the car (luckily I did check) after having to run through torrential rain, wasn’t impressed having to go back through the torrential rain again due to it being missed out.

Food was amazing! Definitely recommended

Chicken and loaded fries were good.

Been a customer for many years. The bibimbap has gone from the best in Glasgow to the worst. Unrecognisable to what it once was. The new bibimbox seems to have lost half the ingredients and all the flavour. Couldn’t taste any sesame oil or a hint of the sweet pungent flavour of gochujang. All signatures of Korean food. What’s left is a box of shredded cabbage and strange peppery taste. A sprinkle of kimchi can only carry a dish so far. There are so many other tastier options in the area now.

I have to say that the new menus or the ways that the food is presented are quite disappointing now. I have been going every now and then since 2016 when I first arrived in Glasgow. In the early days, you could order bibimbap in a stone bowl! You would normally be served a bottle of water and two small dishes of picked sprouts and/or cucumbers when arrive. Several years later, the stone bowls had gone and there came the paper boxes (the round-shaped boxes). A few weeks ago, the square-shaped boxes were introduced. The way tofu was cooked had changed as well. So it has become less and less Korean.

New menu is the worst and tastes like cafeteria food. Can make something much tastier and cheaper at home. This used to be my favourite place in Glasgow for years, ever since they first opened. Over the years, their menu kept getting better. Fried chicken was amazing, the bibimbaps and burgers and even the tofu was incredible. There wasn’t a single bad item on the menu. Have tried their new menu twice now, once tonight and once on the first night after they released the new menu. Had their new “pizza” the first time and it was terrible. Thought I’d give them a second go with classic fried chicken and bibimbap for delivery tonight. Big mistake. Bibimbaps are greasy, tiny and flavourless now. New chicken is horrendous too. May as well just go to McD’s and get chicken selects. The quality is better there, and probably cheaper. That’s how bad KC is now. Never coming back while you have this menu.

This was my favourite takeaway in Glasgow, the food and flavours were second to none. I was left feeling very disappointed last night when I was placing an order and noticed the menu had changed. Instead of the usual kimchi cheese fries, I got a small portion of potato cubes and a tube of congealed cheese which didn't pour over the potatoes as expected. There was hardly any kimchi in the sauce. The glazed tofu was thankfully unchanged and delicious as ever. Burgers have disappeared completely and been replaced by pizza which didn't look very appetising. I understand changes need to made in the current economic climate and I offer nothing but support as this is a small business I have frequented for years. However, I feel the menu changes have completely changed the experience and I would have been much happier to pay a bit more for the previous amazing menu. I really hope you consider bringing it back somehow as I don't feel in any rush to come back for the new one.

Please consider reverting to your old menu. The chicken thighs on the bone were perfect and the replacements just feel like nuggets, lacking quality and taste and overall really disappointing.

This was one of my favourite takeaways in glasgow. Absolutely devasted by the changes made. Bibimbaps replaced by bibimboxes. No egg, minimal soggy veg, portions almost half the size. Never again

Got a takeaway of the kimchi pizza and soy garlic tofu. Pizza was nice and the tofu was some of the best I’ve had- really bouncy and crispy! Nice little place and staff were friendly, good price too!

Unfortunately, the recent delivery menu changes are disappointing. We’ve been loyal customers since Kimchi Cult opened but the prices have recently increased and the portions have shrunk! Bring back the Kimchi fries, the old bibimbaps and the burgers!! -- Thank you for responding, I'm sure the magic is still there... we love the food. I hope the feedback isn't too disheartening and appreciate that changes are sometimes necessary. Hopefully it all works out with the changes and I'm sure there is always an adjustment period :-)

Updated review after the menu change. The fried chicken on the bone is gone and has been replaced with fried chicken thighs without the bone but with the same amazing flavours as before. It will take me time to process the change but these new chicken thighs taste great but they will never live up to the fried chicken from before. R.I.P Kimchi Cult Fried Chicken. Sad times. We tried the pizza and as tasty as it is it just somehow doesn't fit with the menu in my eyes. The flavours are great and even with my disdain for deep pan pizzas they still were tasty "pizzas". I'll update the review once I get a chance to try the new bibmbapbox.

We were previously regularly getting the fried chicken as it was cooked very tasty and it had a distinctive crispy skin. Unfortunately, after the recipe recently changed, it seems the restaurant now uses breast meat instead of thigh meat, the previous crisp that gave the food it's character is lost. If the new product was what I wanted, I would have bought KFC! Disappointed as the old style chicken was one of my favourite dishes.

NEW MENU! Went today for lunch was EXTREMELY disappointed to see they had a new menu. Have had the bibimbap lots before and it was great, this time we had it in a tiny box that was pre made and microwaved, missing half of the original ingredients including no egg. It was tasteless and also a huge price increase! Will not be back! It would have been better if they had just raised the prices of the original meal. Also the lunch deal is gone and so total for the bibimbap and drink was £11.30.

Haven't been since I moved sou' o' the border but the food was always first class.

The food was great, the chicken was wonderful(light and crispy)! Love the soy chicken, gochujang chicken was a little sour but was good, the bibimbap is a must! And the burger.. is a burger😅 I should've tried the chicken burger cause their chicken is a mustry! The restaurant is small but it's nice and cozy.

Not sure if I ordered the wrong thing but my burger tasted like nothing. The kimchi on it was good, but that was all. The bread is too soft and disappeared in my hand. The chicken burger was a little bit better, but just very regular. Nothing special. The whole place is messy with things everywhere, gives you an impression that they are desperate for a deep clean.

I've been here since 2019 and this is the second best fried chicken I've had in Scotland (first one is my MIL's, so technically speaking thee best fried chicken I would spend my money on). Always love coming back here and I miss the pickled mooli! Please bring it back!!

Ate in on a Wednesday night. Fried chicken has really tasty on very large breast pieces, which made it a little hard to eat. Bibimbap did not have enough beef bulgogi and what was there was dry. The overcooked egg and quantity of vegetables made the whole dish not stick together as it should. It would rate better as a salad bowl. The music was quite loud and played only Adele ballads for the whole time we were there. There was no customer service to rate, as you order off of a machine and get your own drink. No chopsticks and only wooden eating utensils. Left us full but felling bit empty.

Great food, fast service, and cool music. Get the Kimchi chips folks, awesome!

Ate here on Friday night after a few in Tennents, got picked up by my partner so we could click and collect. Drove all the way back to the Southside and what an absolute delight. Chicken was still crispy, everything was still warm. The bulgogi beef fries were unreal and highly recommend the soy and garlic chicken. Will be back ASAP. Thank you!

Literally the best fried chicken EVER!!

Used to always order from them but since coming back from Edinburgh and ordering again, it's not been great, switching from pulled beef to mince for the bulgogi fries was a massive downgrade

The food was amazing here! Lovely atmosphere and the staff were absolutely lovely.

This is a hidden gem in the West End. It is primarily a takeaway, but they have a few tables in their small premises if you want to eat in, which is what we did. We ordered the gojuchang glazed chicken and mushroom bulgogi fries between the two of us, and it was enough. Although the menu talks about two pieces of chicken, we actually got three. The fries were very good, although I found them a little too spicy at the end so beware. The chicken was delicious with a crispy coating and you could dip it in the glazed for extra flavour. The food is excellent and the place is clearly very popular, particularly for takeaways. It is a fairly basic seating area, but I think that goes with the street food image and I would definitely go back there again.

5 stars for the food alone and 5 stars for service as it's self-service. Order from the machine on the wall and take a seat if you can find one. Great to share seating with strangers and meet new people. The menu is changing soon, so you can't get a better time to go in and try their amazing fried chicken. I used to go to Kimchi Cult when they where in London and the qaulity of food hasn't changed one bit. Best Korean BBQ in Glasgow by far.

it was ok? was excited to go, as i’d walked past all the time and wanted to try it. i just thought it was really expensive for what it was? there were two members of staff in and both were nice and helpful. the restaurant is tiny and cute, and it vibes inside are nice. but i thought the food was really expensive for what it was? that’s maybe because it’s in Glasgow West End, but you’d think that being surrounded by students would mean it might be a wee bit cheaper. was just left a wee bit disappointed, i also wish they offered boneless chicken

Nearest thing to having street food in Korea. I had the Beef bibimbap and it did not disappoint. Good food and value for money. Don't expect a Michelin star restaurant furnishings - wooden forks, biodegradable plates, bench tables and stools with no back rests. Very limited seating. Some Koreans were eating there, always a good sign. To quote Arnie... A'll b bachk, really soon for the fried chicken, looked yummy....

In the time I spent waiting for my order to arrive, I had time to raise a whole family and watch the turn of the century. I'm sure the freshest snow at the peak of Everest pales in comparison to the coldness of the dishes when they arrived. Shallow portions with tasteless meat accompanied by a bland kimchi, I was left disappointed, hollow and rather thoughtful. Not to mention the missing dish that I paid for but wasn't lucky enough to taste. Is this really what humanity is here for? Are we really evolving ?

Was in for lunch yesterday. Gochujang fried chicken was so delicious and full of flavour. Friendly staff and easy self order machine provided. Definitely the most recommended place for Korean fried chicken. Will be back!

Amazing fried kitchen. Had it in a takeaway box for almost 20mins and it was still crispy and tasty when I got back to the office. EDIT (30/09/23): I regularly come for lunch, and decided to bring my family here on Saturday. But closed when we arrived. Opening times were outdated on their Google profile and on their official website. Called to ask why, and but response was fairly unapologetic. Just a bit disappointed and undoubtedly hungry.

If you’re in Glasgow and you don’t hit Kimchi Cult you’re missing out!

Absolutely love this place, been here so many times over the years. Highly recommend the soy garlic and gochujang fried chicken as well the bulgogi loaded fries. The portions remain generous and delicious.

Since moving to Glasgow last year I can’t even count how many times I’ve eaten here. There’s only a few spaces for sitting in, but the food really is just as good as takeaway too, which is a rare achievement. I’ve never had chicken as good as this - super crispy skin but juicy inside, would really recommend the gochujang or the soy garlic! The kimchi cheese fries are also a must have. Portions are very big here so you’re definitely getting your moneys worth. I recommend this place to everyone I can!

It’s so hard to stay inside and eat. The place is too hot. It’s better to have take-away. Burger was awful unfortunately. Meat was overcooked and bun was not fresh. However fried chicken and bimbap was really good!

Had a takeaway, food was hot an ready on time for the collection slot. Had tofu and loaded fries, plus kimchi and a dip. It was honestly amazing, some of the best tasting food I've had in a while, can't wait to go back

I had been meaning to try this place for a while based on recommendations and overall it was pretty good and I would be happy to return. I had the vegetarian (mushroom) bulgogi bibimbap and an iced lemon tea. Both were pretty tasty and reasonably priced with good heart portion sizes. The decor was also pretty cool. I do have a few points of feedback though, for example it took quite a while for our order to arrive. In fairness, the waiter warned us when we arrived that it would be around 10 minutes for food orders, and I also liked that he asked us if we'd been to Kimchi Cult before so he could explain to us how ordering works. However, in reality it was 10 minutes for the drinks and at least 20 for the food. I don't know if the kitchen was prioritising delivery orders or what but it was too long to wait in what is supposed to be a 'street food' or 'fast food' style place. The other downside was the use of disposable plates and cutlery even though we were eating in. This felt a bit cheap and also meant the bibimbap was pretty lukewarm by the time it got to us. The floor was also pretty dirty even though at that point in the day it hadn't rained much. Despite the above, I would happily go back if I was in the area and the issues I have mentioned are easily resolvable.

Good range of options, including vegan options. Order on the kiosk, pay by card. Kiosks don't allow you to disclose or amend for allergies, but talk to the staff before you order and they will be very accommodating.

Bulgogi fries are the best loaded fries in Glasgow. Small venue so can’t always get a seat.

Fabulous stuff - the Bulgogi loaded fries were delicious, the mouth numbing Szechwan chicken was amazing, as was the Gochujang chicken.

We live about an hours drive from this place and we visit regularly. It's often a place we go to after we've been for dinner elsewhere to take some food home. Their chicken is fresh, crispy, juicy and super tasty. Variety of sauces let you pick your poison but their kimchi fries are also a real treat. Once in a while their special will be a Jiggae and if you see if on the menu you must buy it. It's a small place, two tables and only a few seats but boy does this place have heaps of personality. It's simply a must visit.

Bulgogi fries were not exactly what we expected, but a really nice surprise! Think pulled beef instead of pieces. Perfect size to share for a snack alongside iced citron tea on a warm day. Will be back to try the bibimbap as recommended by other reviewers.

Two words to describe the yummy food served by Kimchi Cult! Ordered the chicken bimbibap, kimchi cheese fries and gojichang fried chicken and all three times were so delicious. I love that the fries were not soggy even with the cheese topping, the chicken was crispy on the outside, tender, juicy and hot in the inside. Bimbimbap was flavorful. This place serves up great food and friendly staff.

The place is small but offers good korean food. I got beef bulgogi without egg. It was good, quantity was more than enough for a person. I cannot finish in one go. I think this is on cheaper side and quantity is good so would definitely suggest for a budget friendly korean place to eat.

What a find! Must be one of the greatest places I've ever eaten in. Excellent Korean food, great for vegetarians. Nice and easy, no fuss. Very good quality and generous amount of food. Modern service and a simple menu. A definite must if you're into asian food.

The food is really good but very salty, we ordered honey butter fried chicken and beef loaded fries, worth the price, would be great if the saltiness could be lowered.

My first time at Kimchi Cult Korean Restaurant was nothing short of amazing! I tried the fried chicken and it was one of the best I ever had. The burgers were also so flavorful, juicy and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere and vibes in the restaurant were really nice, friendly staff, great music, good drinks selection - all in all an amazing experience. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for delicious Korean food!😍🥰

Nice place, terrible looking food but actually quite tasty. We ordered bibimbap and didn't know it had kimchi in it and so we ordered more. Was kinda annoying. Also, we ordered a couple of tofu bibimbaps and only got a miniscule piece of tofu in each! I took a star off the review because the place is based only on disposable cutlery, plates and cups.

The food was absolutely amazing! Make sure to get the bibimbap, and the fried chicken. The seating area is quite small but suitable if there aren't too many of you. The servers were very nice.

The food was okay-ish. One of the employees whistled off-key to songs on the radio the whole time of our stay.

Had spicy pork bibimbap. Loved it! Will be back to try out more of their dishes. The rice was well cooked, the egg was beautifully runny in the middle (hard to do, and a good test of a good chef), the shredded carrots, cucumber etc. were fresh and worked in great harmony with meat and rice. For £8.50 I got a filling meal of a decent portion size of amazing quality. The staff are so friendly too! They've earned a regular. Can't recommend these guys enough. P.S. They're environmentally friendly with their vegware and utensils. I also appreciated the ordering system. Very quick and convenient. It's cosy, has a sense of humour to the decor in the way of the t-shirts and the theme of lettuce. P.P.S. As a starving student, I mightily appreciate the portion size, quality and price. Learnt the hard way how little, how bad of a quality and how overpriced other places can be. This has been a treasured find.

Loved Kimchi Cult. It was fun to sit in. The staff were lovely. My only issue was that there were still using plastic cups for our tea instead of biodegradable ones.

Amazing food at kimchi cult! We ordered the beef bulgogi fries (highly recommended!!!), kimchi cheese fries and spicy pork bibimbap (yaaaaaas). I’ve had my fair share of Korean cuisine and I have to say this is the best one in Glasgow yet, and at a very affordable price! Do take note of their opening hours, I’ll be back again.

had a lunch with my friends. this place cannot accommodate many people. may be like 10-12 people at a time. but their service and food was great ✨ a pork bibimbap and a diet coke was like £8.5 .. so I don't think that's too pocket friendly for a student but it tasted good ❤️ the portion is quite nice for a person and the atmosphere is good to hangout with friends.

Nice vibe and authentic food, friendly service as well. Hope they’ll have a real, non-vegan version kimchi tofu spicy soup. The vegan one was nice but a bit lack of depths and complexity. Floor was oily and slippery.

The best fried chicken I've ever had. It's soul food here. Pure fantastic soul food. To make this chicken you need to have spent many months in the Korean mountains learning how to make the crispy coating from the secrets of the clouds. I'm making this sh@t up. I don't know how they do it but they do. It's moist yet beyond crispy. Utterly wondeful food. UPDATE 23rd October 2022. It is still absolutely mother flipping amazing

It was my first time visiting here and tried the Korean Chicken Burger with the gochujang hot sauce and blue cheese dressing. It was to die for. I only wish this place was licensed so that I could wolf it down with a bottle of Soju and a beer.

Remains consistently excellent and good value. Bulgogi fries perfect Sunday lunchtime food without making you feel like you're going to explode afterwards. I've not had anything here that I wouldnt have again. Shame the Bao buns disappeared during COVID.

Good quality Korean style food. Nice flavours and fantastic value for money. I do prefer these small and simple street food style places over stuffier establishments nowadays. All that matters is the food and price. These guys have got it spot on.

Ordered pick up but ended up dining in at this funky little Korean quick bites joint near the college town. The tofu in the bibimbap was seasoned really well, but the rest of the veggies in the bowl were a bit bland. The vegan kimchi cheese fries were good, but I wasn't crazy about the cheese, not so much bc it was vegan, but bc it had that Velveeta/Cheez Whiz vibe which, even as an American, I'm not really into. But the service was so relaxed and friendly, I'd come back just to be treated well and try a couple other veg-friendly options on the menu.

I'd been meaning to try Kimchi Cult for ages and finally got the chance to pop in for lunch. Tried the bibimbap lunch deal and it was excellent, a very generous bowl and very tasty, will be back soon to try the fried chicken. Cool wee place, friendly staff, good value for money and fantastic grub
