On entering via the bar I was greeted with a roar - the football was on, Rangers v Hearts in Scottish Cup, so forgiveable although I did have a flash back to the bad old days of the ' wild west' saloon! Moving quickly on to the restaurant, we were very quickly attend to and seated.( I hate lingering around to be seated feel like an object being observed - just me? Probably.) We were seated beside nearest to kitchen door alongside the bar area, but no revelry could be heard from the television in the bar. Excellent. Re noise, I did not at first hear or be aware of background music. Turn so low as to be meaningless. If it doesn't - and it usually doesn't don't bother. The restaurant was alive with chattering customers including a birthday party - forgiveable. However with very high ceiling and lovely wood beams, hanging ( Shetland tapestries?) from the beans would considerable dampen the noisey echo chamber affect to suit more sedate dinners who want to hear each other talk rather than their neighbours. We were given a good time to peruse the menus, but quickly offered drinks. Excellent. The menu is fantastic - something for everyone but not endless choices or menues. I started with the mussels in the best garlic, shallots and chive sauce I have every tasted, very rich and creamy. The bannock with it rather than bread was an excellent touch. Keeping it local. The mussels were perhaps not amongst the biggest Shetland mussels, but as ever tasty irrespective of size. The small Pinot Grigio ( Italian) went superbly with it, cutting through the rich creamy sauce to compliment the seafood. My friend had the scallops, without the cheese. A wise choice I fear as cheese may have been too salty. See later. Perfect wait between course. Two sirloin steaks of very ample proportion s cooked to perfection, one medium- rare, mine rare. The pepperoni sauce ( no sauce options) was free of the peppercorns, a blessing, but the best peppercorn sauce I have ever tasted. Onion rings superb as we're the skinny fries - they really were skinny. The large mushroom was very tasty but did not need the melted cheese on top. Produced an over saltiness that for some might have spoiled the mushroom. The glass of Argentinian Malbec was superb with the very, very tasty state. Alas no room for pudding, especially the sticky toffee variety, but I did have my eye on the Cranachan. The most sublime moussed double Expresso polished me off to aid digestion. Waiting staff, dressed casually, were friendly, not over- bearing and extremely efficient . No pomposity with their Maitre'd either. I have dined exceptionally well, enought times at Michelin star restaurants, to know they didn"t deserve it due to their pomposity, over my forty years of doing so and this was one of the best meals I've every had. Only recommendation is to have hangings from beams of some material ,(wool best to absorb noise)

Two months ago, me and my partner visited here. The food was to die for. Amazing! Lovely. Loved it. I went for a smoke and my partner stood up with his hand on corner of the table, for the top part to come away from the base, head into the side window and all the table contents smashed all over the floor. Just opened too this place. Accidents happen they said and he even stayed to help clean up.I paid £130 bill and left out of embarrassment and also confusion to why that happened. Next day my partner went in for coffee to apologise and all was good. New year Eve my partner came back over for a break and we went in, only to be refused to book a table and the owner said no. Then he became verbal abusive saying I need to pay for the hole in the wall caused by his plank of a slab of a table resting on top that flipped without being secured. I told him to leave us alone. He continued. Wanting paid for this hole in the wall caused by his breach of H&S slab of wood on stilts. F’ing away and in my face spitting over my table after walking away from the bar. I was ready to go for him but instead reminded to leave me be. I’ll finish my drink and never return. He carried on drunk and verbally mouthy. Short one with glasses from You been framed. I pulled my hearing aids out and he made a comment on me being deaf. We left and will never go back and we told them! They said byeeeee.

The Kiln changed hands recently and has had an extensive makeover. It has beenrebranded as the KB. The old down at heel bar has been transformed into a nice restaurant. The kitchen is run by one of Shetland's top chefs. The menu is good quality pub grub, fish and chips, homemede burgers etc. There is a good selection of beer and spirits. Our food was a bit slow arriving but was well worth the wait. Serving staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Good food, good service, and a fantastic view of Scalloway harbour. I really liked this place. Nice variety on the menu, and the prices were good, too. Easy to find; not far from the Shetland Bus memorial.

Dropped in for late lunch. Kiln Bar Cafe came highly recommended by locals and didn't disappoint. Good honest food, not too expensive, clean and excellent service. We had a cheese burger, macaroni cheese and chips and chicken strips and chips. All cooked fresh - would put many a chain restaurant to shame!!

We visited mid morning for a late breakfast, which was served very quickly by the friendly staff. The café was clean and tidy, and we enjoyed our breakfast (one bacon roll, one sassermaet roll - both very tasty - with excellent tea) whilst taking in lovely views over Scalloway harbour to the castle.

Worst of Scottish hospitality. Grubby cafe, cheese toastie made from thinnest bread and processed cheese slices. Bitter instant coffee. Toilets locked, Staff disinterested, Wish we had never set foot in it.

The Kiln is a stereotypical pub. It's quite dated and there's very little atmosphere. The barstaff seem uninterested. Decent pool table and show the football, so it's not all bad.

Holidayed in Scalloway for a week, this seems to be the only pub, but it was a friendly place, drinks are reasonable and my wife liked the red wine which only occasionally happens in a normal boozer. One day we were in there a local managed to leave his car in drive and it went into the sea... very amusing and 6 or more coastguards turned up and taped the scene off. All hilarious, and made for a right laugh in the pub as it all played out in front of us. Pub has sky football, decent pool table and darts board, and poker nights Friday and Saturday...

I had read previous reviews, and was a little unsure about entering, I am glad I did, okay it was a quiet Saturday early afternoon. Yes it is a funny shape, yes it has shields all round the wall, yes the flooring is varied. But above all, it has not been put there for me or all the others who report on trip advisor, it is there as the local pub. Not a wonderful palace for those infrequent visitors. The lady behind the bar was brilliant, it has the one available pool table in the town apart from one in a private club, the beer is perfect as the afternoon wore on the locals were more than friendly, I give this pub 5 starts why because if people like me dont take a second to realise just what we are in, and not think it should be a version of pubs we dont visit, then places like this will just fade away, as I said it is what it is not what we the visitors want it to be.

For a nice quiet drink in a friendly bar this is well worth a visit. Nice to sit outside and look over the harbour and just pass the evening away.

Y no botellas.......

Very basic café which does the job if you want a tea or coffee. There is very little choice in Scalloway and this place is designed to cater more for the locals rather than the tourists.

We had a drive through Scalloway on a 'fact finding' trip for planning our next days hill walking. We dropped into the cafe part of the Kiln Bar expecting to find a nice homely cafe doing large pots of tea and cakes. Instead it was like a down at heel transport cafe and that's being polite. I've eaten in far better transport caffs in my time. There wasn't even a single homebaked scone on the horizon. Obviously not interested in the tourist trade or putting Scalloway on the map for visitors.

Well appointed restaurant with fantastic views. We had a lunch and a dinner there. For dinner, venison, duck and pavlova all delicious. Cranachan ice cream very tasty but not what we would expect cranachan to be. Service perfectly reasonable. All very good, but not 5* excellent. Would go again.

When you first realise that the building is actually a shop you are delighted to have found somewhere to buy food or in fact almost anything else you can think of. The bakery section is particularly welcome for hungry explorers. It’s a shame they don’t still have the DIY cafe.

Its a great wee stop on the road north. The cafe is cosy, quaint and full of nice cards and gifts. There is a nice range of different herbal teas and the usual teas/ coffees. The cakes all looked fab, and we had the fluffiest lightest fruit scones I've ever had the pleasure to eat - the portion of cream was generous and the locally made rhubarb jam was delicious too!
