Kennedy's of Goswell Road in Islington

I ordered on Too Good To Go 3 hours before collection time. At the time of ordering there were 5 bags left, when I checked back to get the code there were 2 left. Collection time was 20:45, I arrived at 20:50. Once I got there I was told there was only saveloy, leek pie and cheese and onion pastry left, so I said "I'll take the saveloy please", I was handed the saveloy and expected the chips to come next, nope! I was told there's no chips left... Excuse me? You knew you sold the bags from the app and people would be arriving to collect, why the hell did you not put enough chips aside for the people you knew would be coming!? Once I expressed my annoyance I was told I would be given "free chips the following day", it's no bloody good the following day is it!?!. The surprise bag is suppose to be the value of £7, how the hell does saveloy amount to that! I ordered this for my dinner and that's what I'm handed from a CHIP SHOP! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. It was ordered well in advance for you to make sure there was enough. I will not be returning.

I went there because the ratings for fish and chips were good, but maybe because it's a local restaurant, people kept coming in and getting takeout even when I was there. The turnover rate was good, so even though it was taken out of the display case, the fries were freshly fried and crispy. In the UK, they only season with salt and vinegar, so it seems like it's good to enjoy the natural taste of fried food... but as a Korean who likes to eat everything soaked in sauce, oh! Ketchup! ah! Tartare! It's a taste that makes you shout out...^^ The reason why I fell in love with fish and chips was because the sweet fish and chips I tried at a Hawaiian restaurant in Jeju Island were so delicious, and now that I eat fish and chips in my hometown, ah! I am Korean after all! I guess I have to go to Jeju Island again! I wanted to. Be sure to try the authentic fish and chips here, and try the Dalgogi fish and chips from Jeju Island. And please answer which is tastier ^^^

Been coming here about once a month either for fish and chips or 2g2g. Friendly staff, have been happy with the visit every time except once. Love their chips.

The last 4 or 5 times I wasn't happy. The chips used to be fresh, some have black bits and hardly any potato, used to be great, my son said he's not going again and I agree

A perfect place for a traditional English fish & chips. The fish was amazing, and so were the fried calamaries. We also had an apple pie which was delicious.

We had one of the best Fish and Chips in a very nice and clean fish restaurant with very friendly and chatty staff. A restaurant with a long history and experience how to bring a really fresh and good Fish and Chips on the plate - great.

I have been coming to this place for a long time. They serve some of the best fish and chips in London in my opinion! You can sit in, takeaway or get a delivery. The restaurant is lovely to sit in, though it can get very busy with coach tours and cab drivers. The staff are lovely, the food is really nice and the portions are generous. I visit regularly and I still love it though there has been some changes to the menu and some of my favourite dishes are no longer there. Would definitely recommend.

First time to London. Of course we had to try fish n chips. It was great. Large filet and chips. Hard to find any place open on a Sunday evening.

I had the most delicious, authentic fish and chips in London. The recommended draft beer and white wine were delicious. The fish was fried at 350 degrees, and the secret ingredient was dark beer, which made it crispy. The best! Eating it with vinegar is low in calories and delicious. I gave in to my desire and ate the tartar sauce at the end.

We ordered a large portion of chips via Deliveroo....What came was a portion of chips which were mainly tiny dregs from the bottom of the fryer, plus at least 75% of the remaining chips had black spots on them, so ended up throwing them....Maybe Kennedys should look into using different potatoes if the one's they currently use are unfit to serve!!....In Kennedys favour, they did offer to refund us via Deliveroo, but Deliveroo refused to refund the order as their customer support is disgusting....As a goodwill gesture, Kennedys sent us a free portion of chips as we live locally, but sadly, these were full of black spots too...

A friend and I were walking down Goswell road after my friend had finished doing her business at the Indian Embassy. We were feeling a bit hungry as neither of us had any breakfast, looking for some where to eat we saw a fish & chip shop. She wanted a takeaway, but no it was not just a takeaway but also a fish restaurant when I saw the beautifully interior of the restaurant I just wanted to eat there. I fell in love instantly, the beautiful chandeliers on the ceiling gave it a charm of days gone by. This told me I was somewhere special, so much attention to detail. Everthing was on point from the meal to the service to which was exceptionally good. There is a beautiful Japanese member of staff, so polite, this explained the attention to detail, the calm feeling The menu is quite varied. For a starter I had prawn cocktail & she had a small fish & chips, but it looked so good I had that as well, plus the traditional cup of of tea. I have eaten in many places, but this is the Creme Del Creme of Fish restaurants. Who would have thought that there was such a treasure so near. It a place that you can take your first date who wouldn't be impressed. Have a business lunch, friends & family.

Had a lovely meal here tonight- grilled skate with brown butter sauce and chips, steak and kidney pie w mash and a nice very reasonably priced bottle of pinot Grigio. Charming attentive service. And a sparkling collection of crystal chandeliers!!

Food was pretty decent. Medium score as I do think the price for chicken fillet and chips is too much. And needs more/proper salad with it considering the price. Wish the curry sauce was more like chip shop curry sauce however and not Chinese. Thank you!

We had a great dinner at Kennedy's yesterday with a group of 44. The food and the service was great! It's hard to serve food to such a big group but the staff did a fantastic job! I really recommend this restaurant for having Fish & Chips with a large group.

The fish was lovely but the chips were flavourless and rock hard. I couldn't decide if they were overcooked or stale. The poor quality of the chips really spoilt the meal.

A fantastic Fish and Chip lunch on 17th Jan 2024.The meal was a good portion of fresh, well cooked, beautifully presented and served Cod and Chips (other options available) with Apple Pie and Custard for desert and a mug of tea. Staff were, friendly and helpful. Beautifully decorated resturant, lovely and clean (loos as well) excellent wine at a very reasonable price. All part of our Eastons Coach Trip to the Postal Museum. Really hope our future trips enable a return visit to Kennedys

Very nice, clean fish restaurant. Has an old fashioned look of a "proper London posh chippy" There is a fish and Chips take away adjoining. The staff was welcoming, friendly and chatty. There was plenty of choice for seating. We ordered pie, chips and gravy and grilled Rock fish, potatoes and vegetables. The pie and chips was a good portion and very tasty. The grilled fish- I chose rock and it came with a choice of mash, new potatoes or chips I chose new potatoes. The fish was well cooked and seasoned, the portion was plenty. The restaurant has a small selection of alcoholic drinks, I saw Rum, Vodka, Gin, Desirono. We had rum and coke and gin and tonic. It was a really nice meal and we'll priced. We enjoyed our meals and would definitely visit again.

Super delicious fish and chips shop! I have seen tour buses parked at the door several times before. After searching online, I found out that they are a restaurant where tour groups often bring food. Today I finally found the opportunity to eat there, and the result was better than expected! ! The waiters are very friendly and the environment is very clean and comfortable. The fried fish is rich in gravy and the fries are just right crispy (the fries can also be replaced with other side dishes. I personally recommend choosing 50/50 fries and salad otherwise all fries may be too much. So full 🤣) Even the regulars inside greeted me, it’s a super friendly environment...! I would like to try their other dishes next time.

We ordered a huge order for work event. 40 portions! Called and ordered, came by and picked up at the exact right time, they even through in some vinegar and ketchup for free! Super lovely food, super helpful staff. Thank you - we're stuffed!!

We are on a 4 week UK holiday from Australia and I asked a cabbie to recommend a good proper English chippy. We travelled 30 minutes to try Kennedy's on Goswell Rd and we're not disappointed. The Haddock was super fresh and most importantly the chips were freshly cut and cooked. And finally the lady who greeted us was warm and welcoming. Well done everyone and we highly recommend you.

Had a fabulous fish and chip supper here after our trip on the Thames river cruiser and guided tour of central London festive lights. There were 48 of us in total. The service was swift and the staff very professional. The fish and chips were excellent. We really enjoyed them. Highly recommended. Thank you ♥️

Fish has got smaller and prices have increased exponentially. Now is far too expensive. Give it a miss.

Came here last on a coach trip supper, food was piping hot and freshly cooked. The staff was very polite and extremely attentive. My chicken breast was beautiful and nor in the least bit dry thank you so much.

Ordered 2 portions of cod and chips. 5 chips. Beyond disappointed. Edit: I ordered through Deliveroo but it turns out it’s incorrectly listed as coming with chips. Obviously I couldn’t have known that was wrong, but hopefully they update it. So make sure you add them as extra! (The food we did get was fresh and delicious)

We came from Essex today for a fish and chip meal booked via Kevendys coach trips. I am a very fussy eater and asked for Rock and chips and only vanilla ice cream...! Everything was there and no questions asked. Meal, superb.

We visited Kennedy's as part of a group day out to visit London and see the Christmas lights and other well known sites. Our group totalled 57 people and we all had a set meal of Cod, Chips and mushy peas included in with our day out, unfortunately I don't like fish but I asked if I could have something else and they were kind enough to offer me a steak pie instead at no additional cost. The service was excellent and considering they had to cater for our entire group all meals came out very quickly so nobody was sitting waiting, food was hot and cooked perfectly. The staff were very friendly and attentive and came frequently to ask if anyone would like drinks. There is a nice atmosphere and it was comfortably warm, plenty of seating and the bathroom facilities were clean and well maintained. All in all a great place to visit and I would recommend Kennedy's if you are in the area.

Ordered a basic cod and chips and usually love Kennedy’s but was served old, stale chips and cod that’d been lying out for what tasted like an hour. Thought it’d still taste good because it’s Kennedy’s but nope, was rancid.

Sehr leckeres Fischrestaurant mit vernünftigen Preisen. Hatte hier die Fish&Chips mit backed beans. Das Essen kam sehr schnell, war frisch zubereitet und hat sehr gut geschmeckt! Bedienung war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Leider hatte ich beim bezahlen kein Bargeld und konnte deswegen kein Trinkgeld geben. Das wird beim nächsten Besuch nachgeholt!

Great service and I the cod was tasty. Not oily and the breading didn't make you feel overstuffed (which was great). Also a nice mushy pea and I recommend the fish cakes.

Both the haddock and cod tasted fresh, with good texture. The batter was light & crispy, without being too oily, so didn't make us feel like we'd eaten too much, which can happen at other places. The fish cakes were a good crisp mix of fish and potato, with a light batter. Chips were classic chip shop chips, large and cut from good potatoes... although the taste wasn't as great as I've had... I guess they're using a healthier oil than you might... Ok... reasonable tradeoff.

I visited this place by chance, and I couldn’t be happier That I find this place. The guy that offer me the table is the most polite being in the world and the lady play along too. I order fish and chips and apple pie with ice cream and beer and coffee. I still coming to term about one of the most beautiful places and experience ever came across. Sorry I don’t remember their names, but I want to go back.

Been coming here for over 10 years. Visited today ordered cod, chips and baked beans. The beans were stone cold and then i found that my chips were not even warm. The young guy that served me was very apologetic and embarrassed but the manager and chef were standing at the bar and couldn't be bothered to even acknowledge the problem. Was offered a fresh replacement but turned it down. I have a few black cab driver friends who no longer go there as they feel standards have gone down. Will not go back there. Paid for the wifes food and left.

My fish was overcooked dry and chewy. Chips tasted like they had been made with frozen chips.

Everything is absolutely wonderful! From the service to the food to the atmosphere, especially there skate wings.
