Kapadokya Turkish Restaurant in Plymouth

22 of us came here for a friend's birthday suprise meal. The waiter we found quite rude. Didn't even greet us on arrival. Food was bland and tasteless. Food was lukewarm. Lamb and chicken was dry and couldn't chew it. The waiter wasnt very friendly all the time we was there and looked as if he didn't want to be there. Not a smile on his face the whole evening. Very disappointing evening with disappointing food wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I know.

Visited my sister in Plymouth and she took us out to this restaurant. Food was lovely, reasonably priced, service was good.

We dined on a wet Saturday evening with friends from Sweden. Quiet probably due to the weather but very calm and welcoming.

We visited this place for the first time. We highly disappointed about the food as a Turkish citizens . We ordered Ali Nazik and Sultan’s special mixed sis. Ali Nazik was the worst of we ever eat in UK. Aubergine was deep fried (suppose to be roasted and mixed with yogurt) and mince was terrible. Mix kebap was bad too except chicken sis. That mince definitely not an Adana kebap. And lamb sis has weird sour taste. Separated point for meal: Ali Nazik 1.0/5.0 Mixed kebab: Adana kebap 1.5/5.0 Lamb sis 2.0/5.0 Chicken sis 4.5/5.0

I ate here once before and it was ok so I came back. It must have changed management because I saw different people ‘serving’ and at the front. The quality of the food is not up to standard for the prices they charge. I had chewy lamb meat, obviously old and cheap. Another person had a dish completely covered in sauce and the salad dressing looked old too. Upon arrival it took the waiters twenty minutes to acknowledge us, all they had was just four tables and three people serving…

Authentic setting and good tasty food served by a polite and helpful staff.

First visit to Kapadokya but it won’t be our last. We’d booked, luckily, for the Friday evening for 8pm - the restaurant was full, which is always a good sign! We shared a starter hummus and sucuk (spicy Turkish sausage) and it came with pitta bread. It was the best hummus I’ve had and was plenty for two of us. Our mains were a chicken shish and a lamb shish ……… the chicken and the lamb were beautifully tender and came with rice, salad and warm flatbread. The portions are not stingy by any means! We had two glasses of wine and two bottles of beer - this, plus the 1 x start and 2 x mains came to £70, which I think is pretty reasonable these days. There is a dining table downstairs but all the other tables are up a flight of stairs. The toilets are down a separate flight of stairs, so unless you can book the ground floor table I would say that it’s not accessible for anyone who can’t manage stairs. I would thoroughly recommend Kapadokya for its food, atmosphere and service which was all excellent.

Very good food, reasonably priced. A little short staffed, but they coped! We will return.

A dark atmospheric dining room tucked away in a backstreet in the Barbican, but sadly the food was very disappointing. The meat was all tough - the lamb including gristle - so much so that my wife gave up on it. I struggled to finish the mixed kebab, which as well as the big lumps of tough lamb had a gritty kofte and over-cooked chicken with a strange and rather solid texture. We understand that times are hard but there is no excuse for not using good ingredients when charging £17.50 and £23 for main course kebabs. My wife asked for no dip and the waiter said I could have hers but only a single portion appeared on my plate. He didn't check if we were happy until we'd finished eating, I indicated that I was less than happy and he said "oh just OK then" but made no attempt to ask what was wrong. Disappointing.

Fabulous food and service. Small restaurant but a wide variety on the menu. The food was tasty and hot and large portions. Really great experience, and definitely value for money.

What a find! Went with friends and place was very welcoming which is always a good start, our Waitress recommended food for us to try and also said about the portion size so as not to order too much and waste food or money. Main course we had were the Sultans banquet and the iskander- meat had been marinaded extremely well and was absolutely delicious, will all the other pairings on the plate. Would highly recommend this place and will most certainly be visiting again.

Nestled in in the backstreets of Plymouth's Barbican district, the Kapadokya Restaurant delights with a tantalizing journey through Turkish cuisine. Starting with aromatic starters like Patlıcan Esmesi and refreshing Cacik, followed by mouthwatering mains including Ali Nazik and the tantalizing Special Chicken Ouzo, every dish was a delightful exploration of flavors. Indulging in their exquisite Baklava and creamy yogurt for dessert was a perfect finale. While the rustic decor lacked a bit of Turkish charm, the attentive service from the lovely waitress and maître de made up for it. However, parking proved to be a challenge, especially in the rain. Despite this, the bustling dining room added to the lively ambiance. Turkish beer and Red wine accompanied our enjoyment. Many thanks for a delicious evening.

The worst Turkish restaurant Cold place inside. No heating in a cold night Food not tasty and greasy. Place was empty and bad service. I wouldn’t go again.

Lovely meal, first time eating here but will definitely be back. Quirky setting with authentic decor. Extensive menu with good vegetarian and vegan choices. Food was truly excellent, well flavoured, well presented and generous portions. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

So disappointed with this place. 4 of us ate here for a Christmas night out, service was dreadful, barely acknowledged and we had to chase the staff to get our order taken and continued to have to chase them up at each stage. Was really quiet , just us and one other table of 8 people so no excuse at all. Food was average, cold and greasy and had to ask for it to be reheated. Really unfriendly staff and generally a big disappointment, would not recommend

A very cosy looking restaurant but the food could have been a little better. The calamari was greasy and chewy, and the moussaka, though very tasty and enjoyable, was very greasy too. There was lots of orange oil in the dish which I wasn’t so keen on.

Very authentic Turkish cuisine (not a kebab shop) with fresh ingredients and very tasty. The restaurant is housed in a historic house on what is said to be the oldest street in the city. You definitely need to make a reservation as it is so busy.

Tucked out of the way up a steep little street off the Barbican is this gem of a restaurant. It's small, so book ahead. Staff were friendly, and the service was very good. The food was very nice and portions were generous. If there had been a slightly better choice on the menu, this would have been a 5 out of 5. I'll be going back next time I'm in Plymouth.

We went to celebrate Navy Passing out. It was perfect. From booking they were so helpful, 11 in the party every part of the meal was superb. Nothing was too much trouble. Quality of food and service can not be faulted. They chose a selection of starters for use and mains were pre chosen. The Baklava was amazing.

Had a great meal here. Delicious and generous portions. Service was warm and friendly. Definitely recommend.

Excellent food, excellent service

Loved Kapadokya. The setting was amazing. A Tudor building with natural wooden beams and then being surrounded by turkish artwork and traditional shisha pipes really made me forget I was in Plymouth. The food was delicious! The lentil soup was hearty and warming and the spicy beans were very tasty along with the aubergines in ouzo sauce.

What a little gem! First visit to this ace little restaurant. We didn’t have a table booked but they accommodated us anyway. As soon as we made it up the stairs we could feel the positive vibes of the other diners. Food was good and portion sizes quite big.

The atmosphere is very nice, tucked away on the Barbican you walk into a old building with lots of character. Service was good, quick, no complaints with that whatsoever. Food was not great. Very dry meat and not a great flavour. Not enough bread with the hummus starter and just overall disappointed. Unfortunately, wouldn’t go back.

Visited on a weekday evening and the restaurant was quite empty. There are some steep stairs to the seating area, so maybe tricky for people with limited mobility. Once upstairs in the seating area, the decor gives a lovely atmosphere fit for a Turkish restaurant. The food was very tasty and following the two course deal also reasonably priced. Portions on the larger side so bring an appetite.

We ate an excellent meal in a pleasant atmosphere. The lamb kebabs were perfect, as was the chicken dish. Large portions and generally faultless.

Really good vibe in this restaurant, and the service was in impeccable. The moussaka was literally one of the best I've ever eaten. Hummus too notch. For once good amount of olives given in a restaurant as a side!!! Please do try this little place out.

Very average food, large portions but not very authentic. Our dishes were very similar to each other and fairly bland and boring. The lady waiting on was very professional and friendly.

We had a lovely romantic dinner, we had the ottoman dip selection, a bottle of their Turkish red (exquisite btw), a few plates of meze. In all, we spent about 3 and a half hours eating, drinking and relaxing. The atmosphere was laid back, the waiter was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Their taramasalata is to die for! What an absolutely beautiful & authentic restaurant. Thank you so much for our lovely experience - I cannot recommend enough! Hoping to be back again soon

Unfortunately the food here tastes very inauthentic. Basic foods such as cacik was bland and watery, same for the hummus . Side dishes quite expensive and the note on the menu saying customers will be charged £5 for plate sharing is very off putting. That leaves a very bad taste before you even start eating. Vegetarian options were not very exciting and didn’t make me excited to eat the meal. Service was okay, staff could have been more attentive - wasn’t asked if we’d like a second round of drinks to which we would have. The rice was very bland and had a few bits of sweet corn mixed in, not what I was expecting. This is the first time at a Turkish restaurant I had to use salt and pepper. I am confused at the positive reviews here because if you have eaten at a good quality or authentic Turkish restaurant then the reviews wouldn’t be so positive. Gluten free options were good.

We booked our reservation 4 weeks ago, we were warned of a table of 18 at the time but said it is ok we were fine about that understanding the restaurant is small as been before, on arriving at 7.25 for our meal were told they didn't have our booking, human error can happen but it was the fact our family were visiting from Thatcham and told them so much about this place....what a let down!

The staff were fairly attentive but on a few occasions couldn't hear us. The food was slightly overpriced and the vegan options had much smaller portions than the meat options. Good quality food though.

We love Kapadokia, the food is always plentiful and so tasty, the staff are so friendly and helpful. We will be back again and again 😁🇹🇷

We had not been here before and unless you are looking for it or follow the sign off the main drag, you would not spot it. It was quite when we arrived, we hadn't booked but they were able to seat us. The drinks are bit limited but they have ale, beer and cider along with soft drinks. We reviewed the menu and ordered two different mains, both very tasty and filling the one let down was the flat bread which was cold, stiff and not all that appetitesing. We also felt up to having a pudding which were very nice, triple chocolate browny and a Turkish delight rose sundae, the browny was light in the sponge but heavy on the chocolate very nice. I would happily recommend this place and when back down in Plymouth it will be a choice between here and Dunya.

Absolute hidden gem on Plymouth Barbican, my partner and I have been back numerous times and always had a fantastic experience. The restaurant itself oozes character and the staff are warm and friendly and couldn’t be more accommodating. The food is authentic, fresh and unbelievably tasty and the portion sizes certainly do not lack! We always leave absolutely stuffed. The Iskender Kebap is a personal favourite followed by Baklava and Traditional Turkish Coffee. Fabulous place, we will be back again soon!

Can't stress how good the food is. Considering the owner has retired, he sure does have a passion for food and fantastic customer service by hiring wonderful staff and creating an atmosphere of a holiday at home. It's warmth and smell emulates that of a real Turkish experience. The taste of the food is second to none in anywhere on the Barbican and the building is full of character that you simply can't forget. Love this place ❤️
