This is one of my favourite spots in London. The atmosphere was amazing and the food was brilliant and really made us feel like we were in Thailand. On top of that, the staff were lovely and incredibly accommodating. Highly highly recommend and looking forward to going back myself!

First of all the Staff were amazing, super friendly and so accommodating. It’s even better that you can take your own bottle of wine to drink! And no corkage charge. Now the food ……. My pals had the Thai red curry which was delicious and I had half a chicken in their special marinade with the most gorgeous authentic papaya side salad, 10 out of 10! Can’t wait to come back 👏

The whole experience was wonderful. The staff were super friendly and accommodating and even advised where you could go buy some wine locally - on top of that, they don’t even charge corkage. The food felt like being back in Thailand, so fresh and full of flavour - the prawn red curry was filled with prawns. We will be coming back again and again now.

Party of five for dinner. The food was extremely good. Unfortunately, our evening was spoilt by what can only described by very unprofessional, unacceptable and unreasonable behaviour from one of the waitresses. I understand her to be the front of house. Her behaviour was absolutely inexcusable. She completely over reacted to a request made by one of our friends to move tables. The table in question was NOT taken or reserved. Her response was very aggressive and made my friend feel very uncomfortable albeit that if there was a misunderstanding,he apologised and expressed that there was no intention to cause any disharmony or inconvenience. She proceeded to argue aggressively, be impolite and saw no reason. Absolutely unacceptable and not called for. The rest of the team were pleasant enough until we paid our bill (cash only) at which point we were rushed off our table, service went out of the window even though our glasses and bottles had drink left to be consumed - note that it is BYOB. Absolutely disgraceful etiquette from them and frankly no regard for customers. NOT ACCEPTABLE. This was not a language/culture barrier at all. Simply EXTREMELY poor service. A real shame, because the food is actually very good. The 'individual' at the front of house should be ashamed of her behavior and as a restaurant/business it's something you should address. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Had the best night on Saturday with 12 of us celebrating 2 daughters birthdays (an 18th & a 24th). Delicious food, especially the best ever Pad Thai, and great service…..all the staff were so friendly and attentive. Witz was especially helpful, accommodating our regularly changing guest numbers and times in the run up to our meal…..made it all stress free for me! Will definitely be going back again, as will all our guests. Thank you so much Witz for making it a great night for us in such a busy and clearly popular resturant 🙏 😊

Really wanted it to be great but it was bang average at best. Starters were greasy and flavourless in equal measure. Mains were boring as - the Green Curry in particular lacked any Thai flavours and blew hard. Waitress then told us we’d underpaid by £10 (which we didn’t) so tipped when we didn’t even want to - won’t be going back.

I have been to this restaurant before but years ago. This time I'm vegan and asked if a pad thai could be made without fish sauce. I was told NO in an abrupt manner and told that I would get another dish. She then asked if I wanted a drink, I asked for tap water and she rolled her eyes - and NEVER delivered any drinks. When the food arrived it was slopped on the plate and an appealing grey colour. It tasted how dish water smells. I ate some because I was hungry, 3 hours later I was violently throwing up. She barked at us that it was cash only when the bill came also. I mean, just a nasty experience!JUST AWFUL... I will not be returning!

Decided to go out to eat. It was between Busaba or support local independents...soooo we thought we'd try a thai in Brixton Koasarn.Cut to the chase... noodles and tomato ketchup, a pad thai... that's what I got with a slice lemon.. not even lime... disappointed to say the least... it was literally no other flavour coming out.. nothing... Anyway, when they saw we really stopped eating after a few mouthfuls, no one wanted to come over to ask why. What we did get was a waiter with attitude and took the plates away like we really insulted him, well what can I say, if he was paying for it maybe, but we were of course. Not a nothing. How anyone can eat that and say it was delicious needs a palette check...Won't be going back... Super rubbish

Went for dinner here as the other (and much better in my opinion) Thai over the road was closed down. What a shame. The food here was ok but but it was far too expensive and the portions are small. Prawn crackers cost about £3 and 2 main courses of meagre portions of noodles came to nearly £25. Not a good spot for a relaxed dinner. I was immediately told that I only had the table for an hour, yet, the restaurant was almost completely empty at that time. My friend was unfortunately late due to travel issues so this further reduced our time eating. The staff are friendly but constantly hover and peer over to see if you are finished with your food. It's blatantly apparent that they see customers as walking $$$ signs - a sure fire way to set yourself up for failure as restauranteurs. The food was average at best - both of our chicken mains were very dry. I would only go back for the deep fried prawns starter, otherwise, I will not be making a return any time soon.

TA reviews and the menu in the window made us keen to take a couple of friends for a good Thai dinner. We were in the market, so popped in to ask for a booking for 4 people at 8pm. Answer: No bookings except for large groups, come and take your chances. Further conditions explained to us were: no starters without mains; no alcohol so bring your own which will be charged at 10% of your total bill. We agreed to all of this but the deal breaker was: The table must be vacated an hour after you sit down - whether or not you have finished your meal! This is a patently ridiculous demand and demonstrates the bad attitude of an arrogant outlet. When we protested, bemused, saying it might take an hour and fifteen or an hour and a half to finish a relaxed meal with wine, the response was: Then you can go elsewhere.

We were looking for a Thai restaurant with authentic Thai food for lunch for our party of 6, and spotted Kao Sarn with good recommendations from luminaries such as food critic Jay Raynor (albeit from a few years' ago). Kao Sarn proved very easy to find and only a few minutes from the station. It is on the periphery of Brixton Market, a vibrant community of fresh food shops, cafes, restaurants etc. Despite the sunshine, it was a bit chilly and so we ordered lemon grass teas to warm us up.

No volveremos.

Whether you visit the Brixton or Battersea branch, Kaosarn and its lovely staff always deliver great super fresh and delicious authentic Thai food and service. I have been a 5 year long standing customer and will continue to be. As someone who has traveled throughout Thai land, I can honestly say that Kaosarn's food is tastier and more authentic that the food you get served in most restaurants in Thailand (even the expensive ones). You can bring your own little (or big) bottle of something alcoholic to drink, that suits your pallet as opposed to a pre-determined wine/alcohol list. I suggest you go there with friends, or your date or the whole family! Even if you want a quick bite just pop in on your own and you will be greatly looked after! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

The service we experienced wasn't the most attentive but I put that down to us (as a group) being in deep conversation for most of our time here so staff left us to it. The fact this is a bring your own drink venue enables you to spend as little or as much as you wish on drink which is something that can bump up the cost of your bill. The food isn't particularly cheap here but it is very good so would definitely recommend and hope to go back.

Because it is BYOB and they do not charge for corkage, it is never an expensive meal and because it is such a popular spot the atmosphere is noisy and lively.Book in advance to avoid disappointment though as they are pretty much always full!!!

It's basically my canteen, I try to go there at least once a week! I've been eating there since day 1 and I must say the quality of food has not dropped (though prices have increased a bit). If you have £10/£12 in change, and are felling hungry, go there! Some of the dishes can be very spicy thong, be warned!

Me and my friends spent the whole afternoon at Brixton Market and we went for a last meal of the day in the village to try the highly recommended Thai food place KaoSarn.I must say that first things first, took 5 mins just to decide which seats to have and eventually decided on outdoor seating as one member of staff kept confusing us.After several more minutes we decided asking for the dish of the day or which dishes were popular for our tastebuds to try and the waitress kept saying that everything on the menu is good...lol.You must be joking if you have that poor attitude and lack of culinary knowledge in a 'highly recommended' spot. After finally ordering our ridicoulously expensive foods on that menu, we waited and waited and waited again until it was almost time to just give up on being there and go home. The excuse was that they were busy and they had customers waiting on take-aways...really?I thought we are past the era of taking care of takeaways when you clearly have a long line of people waiting to eat in your restaurant. Get better management , increase you kitchen cooks, don't just be stingy both ways and you still expect a great feedback. When the food came, finally it wasn't the greatest thing in the world; don't get me wrong they had some great ingredients in there but per total of 5-6 dishes we ordered it was a bit disappointing. Best thing I ate was the chicken and mushroom soup with coconut milk which was very fresh indeed. But guess what, when we asked for the bill had to wait until I actually stood up and wanted to make my way to the till and pay..they thought we were leaving without paying and grabbed their attention.Yeah...not impressed at all!

I love Thai food and I have to say I've never had better in London. The dishes are perfectly balanced, expertly cooked and beautifully presented. And on top of that the prices are incredibly reasonable. The restaurant is simple and clean and the service is friendly and fast.Be aware that Kao Sar doesn't have an alcohol licence, but you can bring your own booze and they don't charge corkage.

My first visit to Brixton Village was to eat at Kaosarn which had been recommended to me by a few friends. It's an authentic Thai, quite small, so you will most likely have to wait 5-15 mins for a table, but it's worth it. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and it's BYOB which is great for eating out on a budget in London. There were 5 of us and we shared a few starters including spring rolls and chicken satay, then moved on to mains, with the majority ordering the thai red curry - all food delicious and full of fresh ingredients. Would absolutely visit again.

This place is fine for a quick dinner. Portion size is adequate and food quite flavoursome. With the bonus of BYO it makes for a fairly reasonable night out.

Half the menu items weren't available, the others seemed like they used bottled sauces and mains were brought out in a haphazard manner. Thai is not hard to do well, but this restaurant did not deliver at all.

My partner and I enjoyed a delicious meal at Kaosarn this evening and would definitely recommend it to others. The food is very tasty and authentic, and you are able to bring your own alcohol which makes this restaurant a great budget option. Staff were very attentive, despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy. I will definitely go back to this restaurant, a great find in Brixton Village!

Very very poor. Masaman curry was not. There was no flavor, no nuts, one potatoe! The food was cooked but really letting the spirit of Thailand down. Thai basil and chilli pork rice was really oily flat and lacking. Jasmine rice is low grade. It is as if the restaurant is cooking for the masses and not it's clients. We feel very let down. Service was suitable and the price is over the top for the quality. I'm sorry to say it's the first Thai restaurant I've ever said give it a miss. Waste of money. We're going to go somewhere else to find some flavors after this. Such a shame.

This restaurant consistently busy but heavans expensive for basic "quick dish" food. Pad Thai tasted more like sweet and sour. Rice came in plastic bag to break open and serve oneself. Whole experience not good. Working on principle of get them in and out as fast as possible. My advice....save your money and don't go in!. Can get a decent Caribbean pattie for a fraction of price in Brixton and enjoy ten times as much! (p.s Customer service attention and warmth severely lacking!!)

We went there for lunch and for £10 per main dish I was expecting a lot more. It had a school dinner feel to it - the chicken in the curry was very over cooked and the pad thai was not fresh. I would expect to get this level of food in a £4 take away box from a market stall.

I do not know much about thai food but I enjoyed my lunch there , I had a green curry with coconut milk aubergine and beef , it was lovely. My friend had a pad thai with chicken , for me the taste of lemongrass was too strong. Service is not particularly friendly but is quite efficient.

Most amazing Thai I have ever had. Order the red curry with pineapple and prawns if you go - it is delicious!Have been to the one in Brixton and the one in Clapham. I would say the one in Clapham was far better. It is much more comfortable and better for groups of friends. The restaurant is BYO, with no corkage and the food is very reasonably priced. One of the best restaurants I have been to in London!

The food is something that you cannot even compared to Thai cuisine. My prawns curry was not testy at all, full of pineapple that I have never had in my curry when I was in Thailand and no ginger at all.The service was terrible and as they wanted to serve as much customers they could, they were pushing us for paying any finishing our dish. Not really worth it!!!!

It's a lovely and cute little Thai restaurant. We sat outside, opened our two bottles of wine (it's free corkage and BYOB), and settled in. We all ordered different items. My noodle soup dish with different meat and seafood was amazing. Everyone cleared their plates, and at just over £10 per person with tip, it's absolutely amazing value.

Food is great, authentic, cheap, quick and tasty. Menu is varied with starters, salads and mains (mostly Thai curries and noodles). I would recommend the Moo Ping (pork skewers) and Pak tod (prawn) and peek gal tod (chicken) fried with spicy sauce for starters and the Plah Goong (spicy prawn salad- not for the faint-hearted!). Curries look good but have never tried. It's a very basic setting but it adds to the street food style and charm of the place. Have been a couple of times and it is busy weekday and weekend so be prepared to queue (you can book if you make sure you stick to your time! They'll give the table away after 10mins no show). Yes the service isn't that friendly but it's all about the food here. It's BYO and expect to pay around £13-20. I would happily recommend for non-fancy authentic Thai food.

After walking around Brixton village for a while we chose to eat here. We were promptly seated and served by a friendly waitress. The cafe has a cosy family feel about it which extends to the food. I had the penang curry - it was flavorsome and a decent portion. On the whole the meal was pretty good value for money at just under £10.A good safe choice.

Been to this restaurant several times as well as its larger sister outlet near Clapham. Consistently good and interesting Thai dishes cooked without pretensions. The crispy fried vegetable starters are delicious. Advantageous also is its BYOB policy coupled with the fact they don't charge corkage which makes for a cheap meal. Both restaurants are often very busy but you can usually get a table, as the service is fast and efficient

This is an authentic Thai Café which means you are not going to get superb service and white tables cloths. It is was it says on the tin, good honest, tasty and quick café food.I have eaten here about 20 times over the past year and have never had a bad meal. Usually its with 4-5 of us and we always have a good selection of meals to share. The spring rolls are crisp, hot and generous. The salads are very good especially the green papaya, the glass noodles with prawns mince pork, mint and chilli and the spicy prawn (beware). Well flavoured green curries, noodle soups and vegetable dishes. The Pad Thai is also good but I am not a big fan of the red curry which has pineapple in it.This place is busy on a Friday and Saturday night but if you are patient you will get a table. It's not a place for the big night out, special date or to linger over wine then desert. They churn out tasty food from a small kitchen and let you get on your way. One of the best value eating places in London.

The service here was so bad that I actually found it quite entertaining! We booked a table for 7.30 and by 7.41, when the last of our party just had arrived, the pressure to order was already huge. Food arrived at completely different times – fair enough if it's all cooked from fresh, but I'm not convinced that it was – and when I told the waitress that my rice was freezing cold she whipped it out of my hand without a word and didn't come back for a while, finally replacing it with identical rice...They cleared the plates exceptionally quickly – at one point the waitress actually stood by my friend as she finished the last few mouthfuls – and then slammed the bill down. Here comes the fun part - at around 8.25 they reminded us that we only had the table till 9 and that we needed to pay. We assured them that we would do so, and carried on with our drinks as we'd only been there for an hour and still had some wine left. From then on until 9pm every time the waitress walked past our table she would pick the bill back up again and move it closer to my friend, finally plonking it in front of a separate friend at the other end of the table. Taking the not so subtle hints, we starting getting our cash out (it's cash only), and when we explained that we'd need some change they snatched a £20 note out of my friend's hand, without explaining why, and then slammed £20 with of coins back onto the table. "Here, NOW YOU PAY", she said. Scary times! But also, quite funny. The food here is nice, but if you've got any plans other than inhaling your food and leaving immediately, you should expect a bit of a berating on the side.

This is a small restaurant in the Brixton Village. They have managed to pack together about 28 seats within a very small footprint, with some additional seating outside which should be great in the summer. The place was absolutely packed to the hilt on a Saturday night but we managed to get a table as one couple left at the end of their meal. The service is friendly enough. But as you can imagine for a small and very busy place they focus on getting your order quick and getting the food served fast. All staff appear to be Thai which adds to the authenticity slightly. The food was very tasty and similar to many of the dishes I had tried on holiday in Thailand. The prices where reasonable and I would definitely go back.

I discovered this place as I was walking home, so thought I would try it. Food was nice and fresh. The calamari tasted fabulous, seasoned well, although when I had it the second time, wasn’t seasoned the same. However, still would go back, as great service and tasty thai food you’ll enjoy!
