My favourite restaurant in London. Take your most expensive wine, no corkage charged. Eat the most authentic thai dishes even when your pay check hasn’t come through before the end of the month. Home made taste and fresh ingredients. There are more restaurants like Kaosarn are needed in this capital city. I am so happy to receive such consistency after so many years. Thank you R

A group of friends from a local choir came here for lunch. We were all very pleased with our choices - certainly my squid starter and green Thai curry main were delicious. The staff were efficient, attentive and polite and the pace of service was just right. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own. Just remember to bring cash with you as the nearest ATM often runs out!

Thai food in London can sometimes be pretty poor but thank god not so the case here flavoursome food and what a lovely manager she is so welcomeing Hopefully I shall return when Iam back in town

Before we booked, we were advised we had the table for 1.5 hours only. Very soon after we sat down, we were asked to make our order quickly because another group was arriving in 1.5 hours. Our starters were delivered immediately, quickly followed by our mains (before our starters were finished). The food was very nice but everything felt very rushed, and we were asked to leave 10 minutes or so before we had agreed. It was a dampener on our evening, which otherwise would have been very pleasant.

A most enjoyable experience , the food was exceptional , the manager courteously explained our tables previous occupants were just finishing off and paying which was no big deal and we were seated in no time . BYO policy works well and the £3 a head corkage is a reasonable addition considering the booze was bought at Supermarket prices . The service I thought was excellent , and word of advice the Bangkok style noodles as a soup was beautifully spicy but not for the faint-hearted . Overall excellent , we will go again

Fantastic food! Don’t listen to those reviews, some people just get drunk here and don’t understand that they are not a bar! I come here to enjoy the taste of Thailand, where I am from! Literally, the food is authentic, delicious and flavoursome! I recommend getting the spicy dishes for a kick, but everything is great!

The food is not authentic. All reheated frozen food, the chicken had a piece of ice inside. Worse of all the service, arrogant, rude stuff. The owner is actually worse. I willnever dream of goint there again. A candidate for Kitchen Nightmares.

Do not eat here if you’re looking for a nice relaxing meal. Awful service and constantly pushing you to hurry up to get you out the door. The table next to us even commented saying they had never had such bad service…They won’t give you an itemised receipt and randomly add on extras- such as paying an extra £3 for a few ice cubes.. the most awful service we have ever received, by the owner who proceed to point their finger in our faces when we questioned the additional charge and then shout at us saying “people like you don’t like hearing the truth, and it’s my establishment so I’ll do what I like” strange behaviour and awful food- greasy and bulk cooked... -0/10

So this spot used to be insane and unique in that it was the only local joint that did value byob and bants. But the last four times I have been have been disappointing. Twice towards the end on 2022 and twice in 2023 most recently sept. I could sort of get my head around the strange charge for crackers , corkage and very rushed - please order eat and leave - mentality - that emerged post covid. I understood I got their brand. However the last two times I have been it seems that their brand is now rudeness. And I wanted to express via this platform that it’s not ok. It’s not cheap it’s not that delicious and now it’s not even that convenient- be careful would be my warning as a local gem can quickly find itself in the bin.

Delicious, authentic and spicy Thai food! The best I've had in London. The flavors are amazing, the atmosphere is lively and homey, and the staff are kind, generous and attentive.

Went to a birthday dinner here and did not disappoint. The staff are quite brash but the restaurant is very efficient and the food was all lovely. Addition of BYOB is always good!

We recently ordered a takeaway from Kaosarn from Deliveroo. We ordered two chicken Kao Pad Kra-Praw only and paid just over £27.00 with fees. This is extremely steep given that you not get any rice or noodles for the money. We hoped that the portion sizes would be generous for that price but they were one of the smallest portions we had ever had. It was like they decided to split one portion into two. There was hardly any sauce and the onions looked liked they had been left for a very long time.The chicken pieces were thankfully good, but this was the only redeeming factor. Overpriced for such a mediocre takeaway. Deliveroo should be embarrassed to host them.This is not the standard of Thai Food I would hope for in this price range. What a shame.

Honestly the best chain of Thai food in London. Have the Thai basil pork, nam Tok, egg fried rice. Cannot recommend enough.

8 years of coming here and it’s as consistent and yummy as ever. Highly recommend! 5 stars. Particularly recommend the duck red curry.

Best authentic Thai restaurant in London . I am a regular at this restaurant and it never disappoints: personal favorite meals : Masaman beef, papaya salad, pad Thai prawn and mince pork with rice and egg. Amazing

Amazing service for a large group of 12 people, fantastic table. We had the party set menu which was a selection of starters and mains, very generous portions and free additional rice. Service was excellent and would highly recommend to anyone. Also been in a small group and was just as good.

Another lovely meal. Nice to have had a friendly welcome again. We always go with the glass noodles (make sure you ask for mild if you can't take the heat!!) and chicken wings, followed by Kao Pad Kra rice dish with the fried egg. Yum!

I had my 50th Birthday on a Saturday in February with 40 of my friends at Kaosarn what a day.

Food was fine but it was the worse service I‘ve ever had. They Kicked us out after an hour because we were past our allotted time? Not sure who can have dinner in an hour. No card payment (it’s 2020?)

Hard to find authentic Thai food in London but this is the exception! Everything was super fresh and delicious- highly recommend the pad thai and all the starters!

Visitamos el restaurante el viernes 3 de enero, una reserva que se reservó por teléfono. Mientras que la comida era deliciosa, a menos de una hora de nuestra reserva nos dijeron que teníamos que irnos ya que nuestra reserva solo era válida por una hora. No se nos mencionó el límite de tiempo al hacer la reserva por teléfono o al llegar. La camarera nos hizo sentir muy incómodos y claramente nos hizo saber que quería que nos fuéramos, en un momento dado incluso diciendo que deberíamos terminar nuestras bebidas afuera en la calle. Al partir nos dijeron a nuestras espaldas que no volviéramos. Asombrosamente horrorizado por la forma en que nos trataron y, a pesar de la deliciosa comida, no volvería a visitar ni recomendaría el restaurante como resultado.

Nice, casual, BYOB restaurant. Worth noting it’s cash only. We had the prawn and squid starters and then pad Thai main and all was delicious. The service was quite rushed but everyone was pleasant.

Great food and lively place last night, hope to go again soon. Service as always good.went with my Partner and niece from Australia and enjoyed the evening, lots to catch up on, although as it was busy sometimes difficult to have a conversation.

The service at Kaosarn is nothing if not attentive - they get you in and out in less than an hour and a half so that they can maximise the number of sittings in a service. On a Friday night it was hectic, loud and efficient but great if you want a decent, quick Thai meal. The curries, noodle soups and fried rices that we ate were excellent as were the mixed starters. We just left a little rushed and lost table time as we had to withdraw cash for the cash only payment policy!!

The food is good- but the staff ruin the experience. Although initially friendly, the waitresses came over three times to ask for our order. Food was brought out incredibly quickly and plates cleared before everyone was finished eating. Dessert menus put on the table, then after we didn't want anything, taken away and the bill given. We were then told that we had to give the table up and that we had had our 1 1/2 hours (we weren't notified of this when we booked). I think it would be perfect if you were after a quick dinner but we felt thoroughly rushed and it ruined it for us. If you plan on sitting for a dinner long than this, I would go elsewhere. We ended up going to the nice Mexican place a few doors down for a casual drink. I also think they hike up the prices slightly to offset the lack of drink order - understandably so I think, but may not be worth it if you aren't making the most of the BYOB option.

Potentially the worst and rudest service ever! There is a queue to get in whilst we are still eating and they take our plates assuming we are finished and instantly bring us the bill, we needed to get cash as it’s cash only and they huff and moan at me directly!

Visited with friends to celebrate birthday... a terrible experience due to rude and unprofessional staff who made numerous errors with our order. Food was also disappointing and over cooked. Avoid!

Hi probably minority view as was so busy..But food so mediocre. Thai green curry with tofu. Needed magnifying glass to find chewy tiny pieces. Tap water luke warm no ice. Then told in no uncertain term we had stayed in our table too long. Won't be going back. But sèems really popular. Was packed. Don't understand.

You must book a table ahead of your visit. Very popular and rightly so. Fast efficient service and very helpful staff regarding spiciness/heat of dishes. Will visit again.

I was happy when I first arrived as the place is really bright and lovely, and the menu looked amazing. As I am celiac and can't have anything with gluten, I specifically ordered dishes marked with GF in the menu, just to realise that one of them (number 27) came with soy sauce and was actually cooked in soy sauce. When double-checking with staff, it turned out they had no idea that soy sauce is almost always made with wheat, thus not gluten-free, and their allergen menu that they keep in the back didn't fully overlap with the main menus. Even worse, they didn't apologise and didn't seem to be interested in listening or understanding the issue, and they even had a rude tone

Ordered a take away tonight for first time and the sea bass was inedible. Fish tasted bad and was so dry and hard. This fish alone cost £15. Overpriced and poor quality. Was going to phone and give feedback but having read poor service reviews felt little point. Please don’t waste your money here

Very busy restaurant so we were pressured a bit to order quickly and warned of the time limit (although in their defence they specified this over the phone and advised me to book later) but this was all offset by the fast food service of delicious traditional tasty thai dishes and they were considerate when they realised my friends were stuck at hospital. Also the BYOB definitely makes this place very popular. Would definitely go again but maybe book the last dinner slot

It's been the second time I come to Kaosarn in St. John's Hill. I regularly go to their other restaurant in Brixton. The food is always amazing, but the service is fantastic.

Food was fairly average. Service was good but they did bring the bill before we asked. As its BYOB then there is no benefit for them for you to stay longer to finish drinks of which I can see others have commented also. Great location and layout is nice. So by no means bad but wouldn't make a B-Line for this place.

We went for dinner (5 people) here as my mate remembered it was a byob so we thought it would be a good chilled place for a Saturday night dinner. As soon as we sat down they hurried us along to order (we’d not even been seated for 10 minutes). The food came about 3 minutes after ordering, and was distinctly average. Literally the moment you finished your meal they took the plates away and it was clear they were trying to speed you up as much as possible. We didn’t order desserts and had the bill placed on our table immediately (we’d only been sitting at the table for 50 mins at this stage). When we didn’t rush to pay we got hassled to settle the bill at which point I said the time quoted on the phone when we made the booking was 1hr30mins, and we were still drinking so wouldn’t be leaving yet. The waitress then came over 15mins later and started WAVING THE RECEIPT IN OUR FACES to get us to pay. She did the same thing after another 5 minutes. We were genuinely flabbergasted, and once we settled the bill I told them they were very rude and it was a terrible service, when the manager started yelling back at me saying I was the one who was rude. Definitely do not go to this restaurant, the service is literally disgusting and it’s not even like the food is great. They also tried to charge us a £1 for ICE, literally frozen water which is an absolute joke.

Food is great but service just ruins it. You are constantly rushed throughout your meal and made to feel uncomfortable throughout . Please don’t book here unless you want a quick and easy meal. It is not a pleasant experience.

I came here a couple of weeks ago with some friends for dinner. The food itself was amazing, however 2 of us arrived early and whilst waiting 15 mins for our friend to join we were asked 4 times if we wanted to order. Then when she eventually arrived and we ordered the food arrived within 5 minutes which made us feel rushed. The plates were cleaned away as soon as we put our forks down and the waiter brought our bill without asking if we wanted dessert or anything. We were then told we couldnt sit there because they had another reservation and we needed to wait outside to finish our drinks. The experience took 45 minutes from the moment we arrived to the moment we were asked to finish our drinks outside. The way they make you feel is not worth the food and I would dissuade you from coming here.

The food at Kaosarn is so divine that it was on the 'must-go' list when my mother visited to stay with me in London. Our dinner did not disappoint with wholly fresh ingredients and real authentic homemade Thai food. Every single element of the numerous dishes available is lovingly made from scratch.

One of our favourite restaurants in London. Beautiful and authentic Thai food at extremely affordable prices. On top of all that it’s BYO (and unlike most restaurants that do a reluctant BYO, its embraced here so you don’t feel a social pariah bringing your own bottle of wine or 6 pack!) the Panang Gao (red curry) is to die for as is the Fried whole seabass with mango. Staff are great, just don’t overstay your welcome!

This meal exceeded all my expectations - I read all reviews and decided to try it out for myself... I can’t understand how this place would receive anything less than 5*! Food and service were spot on - having been to SE Asia I can say the food was authentic, tasty, and staff members were professional and warm. Went with my galpal, and will be returning with my other half. So glad we picked (and booked!) Kaosarn! Thank you for a wonderful evening. By the way... BYOB!? Winning!

A truly special evening at this wonderful Thai restaurant. After hearing all the hype I had high expectations and Kaosarn certainly did not disappoint! It exceeded expectations! The Moo Ping (pork skewers) were so tender with an incredible sauce, and the stir fry mains were equally delicious. The service was both professional but personable with Giselle serving us with such warmth and kindness. Any previous reviews to the contrary should be disregarded. I have lived in south east asia for several years previously and this food is as authentic as it comes. So BYOB sit back relax and enjoy a taste of bangkok! Thank you for a wonderful evening I will be back xx

Esta fue la primera vez que visité Kaosarn, pero mi novio me recomendó que lo probáramos, habiendo estado con amigos, y disfruté la noche. El restaurante tiene un ambiente acogedor y relajado, es amplio y luminoso por dentro y me encanta que sea un BYO. La comida es muy razonable y absolutamente deliciosa. Soy una vegetariana muy exigente, así que me cuesta mucho complacerme. Tuve una especie de entrante tempura de verduras y un muy buen tofu de curry verde tailandés. El novio tenía dos entrantes (le encanta su comida y no es vegetariano) y un plato principal que describió como fabuloso. El personal era encantador, particularmente la anfitriona (dueña) que tiene un gran sentido del humor. Libro, es popular y se llena mucho. Sin duda vale la pena una visita.

¡El peor servicio que he tenido! Estuvimos allí como un grupo de 8 y nos molestaron tan pronto como llegamos por el personal para ordenar los entrantes. A pesar de no querer nada, tanto las camareras como la dueña gritaron repetidamente en la mesa y dijeron que si queríamos traer nuestro propio alcohol (como lo habíamos hecho) necesitábamos ordenar los entrantes. Ellos insistieron en que le dijeran esto cuando haga la reserva por teléfono, lo cual no fue el caso, ya que no se mencionó nada al hacer la reserva. Después de ser acusados de mentir, luego nos dijeron que podíamos irnos y que, finalmente, nos obligaron a ordenar los entrantes que no queríamos, luego trataron de cobrarnos un cargo adicional por el servicio de descorche (no pudieron decirnos cuál, solo pusieron sin preaviso). Nunca hemos experimentado un servicio al cliente tan grosero y atroz. La comida también era increíblemente mediocre y no vale la pena el dinero. Si no te gusta que te griten mientras intentas disfrutar de una cena con amigos, evita a toda costa.

Had £22 set menu for a group of £12. All the food was delicious and more arrived than we could possibly eat. Net the owner who was a real sweetheart. Loved it. Go!

Reservamos como un grupo grande de unos 12 o así. La persona de nuestro grupo que lo reservó fue al restaurante y pagó un depósito por adelantado con unas semanas de anticipación. Parecía haber un poco de confusión con la reserva del restaurante después de ese punto. Habíamos reservado para las 7 pm pero luego dijeron que teníamos que salir a las 8 pm, lo cual no era lo ideal. Intentamos llegar lo más cerca posible a las 6: 30 pm para acomodarlo. Cuando llegaron las 8:30 pm, nos apresuramos a salir, pero por suerte nos habíamos asegurado de que estuviéramos listos para ir de todos modos.

We ordered a takeaway meal from Kaosarn. The first course was soup which consisted mainly of liquid with a few mushrooms and two prawns, very disappointing, followed by green curry which was tasteless and oily with a small amount of chicken. The pad thai was quite the most awful food we had tasted in a long time, no flavour and greasy. The whole meal was disgusting.

This place is BYO, you can get basic soft drinks though. The food is absolutely delicious, the Massaman curry was the best I’ve had in a long time. It might be nice if there was some service with a smile though!!

Arrived after the cinema with my wife, who used to go to the restaurant often and loved it. We waited a few mins for a table and were then directed to the back. The table had been nestled next to the kitchen walkway and the loo but was fine enough.

Went there recently with my wife for lunch. It was not busy. Ordered 2 curries (different) and both came out far too quickly but what was not good is that they both had a layer of oil on them that was ridiculously deep. We pointed this out to the staff who were not in the slightest bit interested. Sadly will not be going back there again. Still looking for a decent Thai restaurant south of the river.

After two and a half years living nearby, I finally convinced my husband to give it a go... I really enjoyed it but he ... He's still talking about how amazing the place was and how well we ate! The food was delicious and quickly served. Staff was friendly and helpful all along and I love THE fact they are BYOB...

Very tasty thai food close to Clapham Junction station. The service is fast and the price is very reasonable for the quality and size of the portions. On top, I only had to wait 5 minutes since I entered to get my mail. Very satisfied.

We went there for lunch at around 2:20, we were initially 11 people and they put as very tight in a tiny table because they said they needed to prepare the other tables for dinner and rushed us to order saying that kitchen will close at 3:30 ( an hour later). We didn’t complaint but 20 minutes later we were told one big guy was joining us as well so I asked to either fit another table or set another table for 4 of us so that we could eat comfortable enough. She very rudely told me that she couldn’t because they were very busy in the evening( at the time only 4 tables were occupied). She also said that they often fit 12 people there to what I said “ not of our size”. She refused to, so we needed to fit the 12th person in way that we were eating nearly side wise.

The food in this authentic Thai place is excellent. However, the portions were to small. For this kind of money, I expect to be full after eating a main dish. Instead, I had to have a second dinner at home.

Visito esta sucursal de Kaosarn regularmente con mis amigos. Nos encanta el ambiente informal y el personal es muy eficiente. Nos encanta la comida aún más y el hecho de que sea un lugar BYOB no nos hace pelear por lo que queremos beber con nuestra comida. Auténtica cocina tailandesa, el menú tiene una gran variedad y ofrece una selección de platos tailandeses muy populares y no tan populares. Se recomienda encarecidamente, pero tenga en cuenta que no puede mantener la mesa para siempre y es un restaurante solo en efectivo, pero los precios son muy razonables. Definitivamente vale la pena una visita y más!

Fui a Khao san para reunirme con mis viejos amigos del trabajo. Me lo habían recomendado por la buena calidad de la comida. Habíamos reservado una mesa y llegamos para 7. 15 . Nos dieron un menú al instante y nos pidieron que ordenáramos en unos pocos minutos. Se apuró desde el principio, con los entrantes que llegaron después de 5 minutos de realizar el pedido, y los platos principales que llegaron a 7 minutos del pedido. Quedó claro que tenían prisa por cambiar las mesas.

Descubrí este lugar con un amigo por accidente, y hasta ahora creo que he tenido el mejor Pad Thai de todo Londres en Kaosarn. El restaurante estaba muy lleno incluso para un día laborable, pero nos ofrecieron sentarnos afuera, que era tan bueno. BYOB es simplemente fantástico (justo al lado de Sainsbury) y la comida era deliciosa. Sólo en efectivo, pero el cajero automático está a 2 minutos a pie. ¡No puedo esperar para volver!

Wonderful food especially the papaya salad and soft shell crab. Busy and noisy but warm and satisfying.

The food was mediocre and the service left a lot to be desired. Being hurried out of the restaurant after our 1 hour of allotted time was not the most pleasant dining experience. Don't eat here if you are trying to avoid carbs, there are literally zero options - I asked the waitress. Very limited options for vegans too.

The food was very tasty, atmosphere was nice and I’d go back. But dish #39 maybe needs to come with a garlic warning, in the same way places put chillis on their menus to denote hotness. After the meal it felt like I’d consumed a whole bulb and I needed to eat two Yorkie bars at Clapham Junction then a cinnamon and raisin bagel when I got home. 12 hours later and I can still taste little else but the garlic.

Went for lunch, six adults and two children. The food was mostly really good (except for the banana fritters which were a very odd texture) but we were left with a very sour taste, because having been offered prawn crackers while we chose our meals we ended up billed £15 for them. Several of us eat there regularly and the prawn crackers have been complimentary up to last week, with a bowl between two brought out as standard, so we didn't really think much when they were brought out (except yay for keeping the children happy while the food was ordered). There's no mention of pricing for prawn crackers on the menu which makes it even worse - if we'd known they'd started charging we certainly wouldn't have accepted more than a bowl.

Had dinner there last Friday. Unfriendly staff, not attentive to any of your needs. Didn’t listen when ordering, so in the end got a dish I didn’t want. The food is the worst Thai I have ever eaten. The green curry was flavourless absolutely a waste of money. I don’t normally write reviews however this restaurant is completely over rated and I’m so surprised that it’s was busy. Over priced and a waste of time. The chicken did not taste like chicken and was rubbery - awful flavour.It did have atmosphere compared to other Asian Restaurants that can be quite sterile. Don’t waste your money.

I ordered two takeaways from here and when I them picked up, I was short £1.00. I said that I did not know the price had gone up. The answer was “yes, you do know, you have been here since the price went up”. I apologised and said that my memory was bad.

First BYO experience in London and it was pretty tasty. I had the fried vegetables for a starter and then the king prawn curry. It was actually one of the best curries I’ve had! Highly recommend.

This was oir second visit. The first time I went I found it really good but terribly noisy. This time we went earlier and got to appreciate both the amazing food and excellent service. I absolutely love Thai food and this food is so delicious. We had the squid to start which virtually melted in your mouth, followed by fish curry and a spicy salad. The coconut ice cream finished it off perfectly, this from two people who never eat pudding! Will be back very soon, can't wait!

The food is ok. What really puts me off this place is the service. Staff are rude on the telephone, once I got shouted out on the telephone because I decided not to book a table at the one time available - 5pm!!!

We go here a usually at least once a month and it's always good. Love the Vegetable Red Curry. The flavour is amazing. People on here seem to moan about being rushed off the table but they don't seem to get it, it's BYOB so they make no money on drinks so once you've eaten they need to get the next table in. They are nice about it.

Really delicious Thai and fast friendly service. Great place for a quick, inexpensive catch up with friends over a great meal and BYO drink. But not a place to linger longer due to their slightly dull 2 hour table booking policy.

Very busy and buzzy especially with the youngsters. Need to book if you want to be sure of a table, but you could probably go to a nearby bar and wait.

Last Sunday I invited a friend to join me to go back to this restaurant after a while. The place is cosy and the food is great. I normally order pad thai, chicken skewer and lemongrass tea. This time we tried the king prawn curry and we enjoyed it! The staff is ok, a little bit rushy maybe. Shame you cannot pay by card, only cash. Overall the experience was very good, I keep going back as it is an experience.

Ok my review probably differs from most of the rest - and to be fair perhaps it’s because I turned relatively late on a Tuesday night

Working almost next door, this restaurant has become a staple part of Friday for me and a group of my colleagues. I have also had several evening meals here with between 2 and 10 friends. The food is excellent and staff - while not effusive - are fair and friendly. When asking for changes to dishes, they are clear on what will and will not be possible, and given how busy this place is in the evening, will always try and squeeze another table in where possible.

Lovely food but you do feel very rushed. Saying that the staff were very nice. Would recommend for quick cheap dinner.

Six of us ate here all having different dishes and no one was left disappointed. You take your own drinks and with a Sainsbury's right opposite the restaurant you can easily get a chilled bottle of wine or beer to accompany the meal. Supermarket prices for alcohol resulted in a very economic lunch which everyone enjoyed. The staff were attentive and the meals arrived promptly and nicely presented. Will certainly be returning to this restaurant.

Food was great and reasonably priced. The service was very rushed because it was very busy. Cash only.

I went with my husband a few days ago as I was craving some Thai and we have found often we are disappointed. This time however the food was AMAZING. Best Thai I've had outside of Thailand. We shared some starters, the fish cakes (which can in some places be rubbery) were morish and delicate, the satay was spicy and sweet for mains I had a red Thai curry which was perfectly balanced and the right amount of spice, my husband had the stir fried beef which was so favourite I stole a lot of it. There's no alcohol but there's a wine shop next door. I'm very happy to learn there is also one in Tooting with I plan on frequenting often. Very happy find it.

Amazing Thai food and super fast service. The staff are very friendly but do move you fairly swiftly with ordering, courses and to pay. Understandable really as they are so popular and have so many people keen to get a seat!
