The food was very nice and the service very friendly. They offered complimentary olives at the beginning and tea after dinner which was really appreciated!I have read other reviews mentioning service charge and VAT not included in the menu price which does not reflect my experience at all.

I have been here several times over the last few months, and I would say that this is the one of the current best places to be in terms of Iranian restaurants in London. The food is tasty, well presented and served in right portions! There is no way you would leave hungry from this place. The staff are friendly and experienced the food is overall very good, There is a wide selection of Persian dishes, and comes with freshly baked bread!

Reading some of the reviews on Kandoo we have decided to try it and we asked for delivery. We were disappointed on many levels:- the main dishes (grills - we have asked for three different types) we were mainly heaps of rice and you could hardly see the four pieces of chicken/lamb hidden there.- the food is bland with no trace of any seasoning. - delivery service does make people's easier BUT do tell customers that they will be charged 7 pounds for it.In short, it is an overpriced restaurant with below average food and I recommend people to look for other restaurants serving Persian food.

No where is it mentioned about 12.5% service charge plus it was not even clear on the bill when it arrived. we had calculated our bill £60 below the bill cost - we had been billed for food we didnt order - food was good but will not be returning as my order wasnt processed so arrived a while after everyone elses food.

Great Persian food, we brought my sister and her family visiting from Brazil and I wanted to show them the difference of the Persian food in Brazil and the UK. Simply divine. We had mix starters and for main, we had mixed grills, and three different rice dishes. I can't fault any. It was superb. Great atmosphere and customer service. Many thanks.

We have our Persian NY party there but end of the event, we found out has to pay meal price +service charge then top up 20% VAT. The food was average and service was not much as we had lots guess. I will recommend to check the bills before you pay. In UK, you only pay menu price plus service charge. no VAT on top of menu price and service charge. Be aware.

I was looking for lunch before catching a train at Paddington, and preferably interesting and BYO. Walked up the canal from Paddington, and along Maida Avenue. Excellent restaurant. Not an expert at Persian food but an enjoyable and very friendly meal. Will go back when the garden is more appealing (i.e. the weather has improved). Meze starter was good, portion of rice generous, kebab succulent, and desserts lovely. Luckily had cash (they do not accept credit cards and I for one am happy with that - expense account diners ruin restaurants).

I first stumbled upon this place when searching for a BYO restaurant on Edgeware Road and have since been back a couple of times! Food is very tasty. You must order the sesame naan bread which they make right infront of you. I also recommend the mixed grilled plate for the meat lovers out there. The owners are lovely and the food is very affordable. Last time I went was with a group of 5 and it was £12 a head.

Never been disappointed once with this little Persian restaurant, which definitely feels authentic the second you step in. Having been to iran, I felt a bit reminiscent of moments when I was there, maybe because of the music or the Farsi chatter.Portions are massive, and depending on how hungry you are you can take extra naans (homemade in a fire-oven displayed right at the entrance) and starters...In general you are guaranteed to discover new flavors which we rarely use in Western cooking, but which bring delicious surprises in your plate... pistachios, rose... berries in the rice, pomegranates, etc... are the secret weapons of Persian cuisine in many dishes and desserts.

The big attraction for us is tha we can bring our own wine without a corkage charge. But our group of a dozen always enjoy the food and cheerful service. We never feel rushed. There's a garden with heaters available thoughtout the year, though we decided outside would be a bit brave in January! Always a very good value meal.

I've been visiting Kandoo for some years, and on my last visit in January found the menu expanded and even finer. You could make a wonderful meal just from a selection of starters, but the main courses offer a real problem - do I have something I had before and really enjoyed, or try something new? If you haven't tried Persian cuisine before, treat yourself!. The prices are modest, and the ability to bring your own beer or wine keeps the final bill down. The staff are very friendly and happy to talk you through the menu. Incidentally, I've been living in Wiltshire for the last 6 years but make a point of making a detour to Kandoo whenever I am in London. Evening parking in side streets no problem, buses stop outside the door!

Being in the home area I often get my Persian kebab fix here. For a bit of background you cannot compare Persian Kebab to any other kind of Kebab as it is far more refined and much more serious in a sense. Anyhow we normally get the Koobideh, Barg and Chicken combination with rice and Salad Shirazi. If you like stews the Ghormeh Sabzi is among the better versions of this classic khoresht available in London. Service and atmosphere are good too, there is a garden out back if you like to eat al fresco but these are all secondary points really ;)Worth a shot.

Walked down the street from our hotel to find this neat Persian restaurant. Great food, reasonable prices and very friendly owners(?) who unpretentiously assisted us with some of the details and background of a very splendid dinner. Enjoyed it so much that we returned the next day for another great meal. We were able to spare enough space to sample the ice cream with pomegranate berries for desert. Wonderful. We hope to be back to London soon and a return to the Kandoo will be on our must-do list.

A pleasant gesture that is a thing of the past these days! Upon entering we were immediately offered their extensive menus. Our drinks came promptly and our request for iced tea which was not on the menu was accommodated. Our dinners were exceptional.

Here are some of the things that are great about Kandoo.A cosy environment - whether it is out in the garden in sunshine, or in the restaurant itself on a cold wet day, the restaurant is comfortable, attractive and welcoming. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. The food is wonderful. Amazing selection of starters - great for sharing, with fresh baked naan from the oven in the restaurant itself. Great main course options. I'm not a meat eater myself, but my friends rave about the juicy tender lamb and chicken served with fresh tasty salad and rice. Everything very reasonable priced. We have brought friends here from all over the world - Japan, the USA, Australia and from across Europe - and everyone has loved it and begged to be taken back.Another advantage for us, is that you can bring your own wine. And it's a short walk from one of London's best independent wine stores, The Winery: http://www.thewineryuk.com/

Ordered the bog standard Salad Oliviehas Starter n Kubedeh Kebab on buttered n Saffroned Rice as Mains. Salad Oliveh was fresh n full of life - better than Hafez of Notting Hill. Kubedeh with Rice was ok not as good n juicy as Hafez. So who is better????I would say Hafez because of Superior welcome n food there was served from heart. I just mentioned the name of Zirish Berries at Hafez n was served a complimentary Berries n lovely Oilves/walnut/Pomgrenate relish!!!Having said that I would definitely come n eat at Kandoo if i am in Edgware Rd area! Btw again a small place like Hafez but no Beer/wine list unlike Hafez who has even an Iranian Beer! Can't believe Ayotollas allow it to be brewed there !!!!

This restaurant has the potential to be a great venue but it always has a weird smell -- either sewage or gas. It is not so clean either. The food is outstanding and the portions big. Service terrific. The garden at the back is open until early autumn and is lovely but uneven surface so not so great for elderly or infirm. If you don't midn grubby floor and surroundings or funny smells I recommend the outstanding food and wide selection on the menu. They change their hot dish every day and everything is cooked to order, not pre-packaged. It can be a slightly depressing place because it is mostly empty all the time and a group of grim-faced men sit in a corner 24/7; the guy who makes bread is a misery but the waiting staff are lovely.

We selected this restaurant on the basis of location, reviews we had found and the fact that we could bring our own bottle of wine. The meal itself was OK although in fairness the chicken was cooked to perfection. I regularly eat in a Persian Kebab house back home and was keen to compare and I definitely prefer my local place in Portsmouth which is better quality, better priced and bigger portions. The mixed meat dish dish I have back home was not on the menu and we asked if we could substitute the minced lamb on their mixed grill with fillet lamb, expecting to pay a supplement of course. I was shocked at the end to receive a bill for £52 which included 4 main courses. They claimed our request meant we had two main courses each which of course we hadn't. We had just had a better cut of meat which we expected a supplement on. With hindsight I should have checked. We eventually got a £5 discount after complaining since we didn't get two lots of rice each nor accompanyments. Unfortunately the attitude marred the evening. I would not eat there again as the food was mediocre the atmospehere on a Friday night was non existant and the attitude was woeful. Needless to say I didn't leave a tip! There are many similar restaurants in the vicinity and I recommend that people try others first.

We visited this restaurant whilst in London for the weekend as we wanted to try something a little different, and what a good choice it turned out to be.The restaurant itself is small (although it does have a charming little garden which would have been lovely had it not been for the rain!) and the surroundings are not particularly plush, but do not be put off, it has a certain rustic charm and the quality of the food far surpasses the basic surroundings. All of the food we enjoyed was flavoursome, and the kind that you want to just keep on eating long after your stomach tells you it is full! The highlight was the fresh bread being made at the front of the restaurant, which is brought straight from the fire to your table - delicious! The restauarant is also BYO, so no paying over-inflated prices for wine.We will definitely be returning, and would recommend this to anyone who likes to venture away from central areas to try something new.

Kandoo has just refurbished his restaurant and the second room is ideal for large groups and depending on the size of your group comes with privacy at no extra cost. The menu is ideal for groups as the meze and the superb grlled meat selection and bread means you can "quantify" costs easily. (Bread and grilled meats are cooked to order) There is no corkage charge so you can take your preferred alcohol which makes this restaurant very affordable. For smokers in the group - the garden with a new sun deck is at the back and for variety & novelty I believe he still offers the shisha.Friendly owner and congenial staff with Edgware Road or Warwick Avenue tubes approx a 7 minute walk. No 16, 98, 414 6 & 332 drop you outside his door

We have visited this restaurant on a regular basis, and the food is always excellent. The grilled meat is very affordable and, more importantly, cooked to order. Freshly cooked bread, again cooked to order in the oven at the front of the restaurant, complements the starters very well. BYO policy with no corkage charge is an added bonus, and a rarity in London. Recently expanded, with a very nice garden, this should be good for big groups.

Booking a table for 9 isn't easy in a capital city. Kandoo managed to make us feel comfortable and catered for in an instance. The BYO policy is a god send for larger groups with varying cash reserves and with no corkage either, our meal was a hit all round on the drinks front! But don't worry - the food was just as appealing. We started with mixed mezah dishes complimented by freshly made flat breads by the guy at the bread oven conveniently situated just feet away from us in the front window. Watching his expertise was a conversation starter too! Mains chosen were a variety of chicken, lamb and fish. The kebabed meats were delicious and plentiful and the rice was the softest and most flavoursome Persia has to offer. Our waitress was appropriately attentive and the ambience was local and friendly with generations of families all enjoying eachother's company.A steal of a meal!!

food is very good, it was my first time that I watched someone baking a clay oven bread in front of me. It couldn't be as fresh, and I was told that they use home made yeast rather than artificial ones, combine this with the tasty starters, for example 'Kashko bademjan' an aubergine dish and 'Panir sabzi' that is fresh herbs including fresh Tarragon. We had a mixed grill for main course between three of us with three plate of fantastic rice, this includs, lamb chops, breast of chicken, minced lamb, and a kind of steak looking kebab which was all really tasty. We took our own drink, plus there is no corkage charge. I'll definitely go back with some friends .

I've been three times and enjoyed it very much most of the time. Tasty starters, real spices rather than everything tasting (or not) of chilly. Only complaints would be that I couldn't have the Friday-Sunday specials any other day of the week; and that once, the rice tasted very strange. Usually it's the most wonderful, separate grains, though - much better than any Indian or similar type of rice I've had. I enjoyed the Yoog - yoghurt drink flavoured with cardamom seeds.

Takeaway with a few tables. Mains are 10 with or without rice (less curry if getting rice). Dal (thick chana/chickpeas) was 7. Steamed basmati was 3.5 and PERFECTLY cooked. Nan homemade but not in a tandoor so lower temp meant a little stodgy. Tasty food (tikka masala / lamb and aubergines / dal / nan / rice /no drinks (a no for tap water)).
