Kaizen Sushi & Eatery in West Lancashire

Choice of food was excellent, and very tasty too. Service was outstanding and there was a 50% off on selected bottles of wines. Would highly recommend.

Never been before but popped in on our day off, we had the 3 for £20 small plates deal, the food was delicious and beautifully presented, portions were generous, the quality of the produce, especially the beef and halibut was great, we were stuffed to the gills when we left, great service and lovely venue. We will be back.

We visited this week for the small plate deal (3 small plates for £20). It was quite busy but lots of staff working. They were very welcoming but we waited a while to be served. Drinks took a while to come to the table but the food took even longer. We ordered some prawn crackers that didn’t arrive. They did take them off the bill when we questioned it. Food was okay. Lots of choice and all fresh but wasn’t as good as we have had previously. There are better places for small plates in the village so will go there instead next time.

Perhaps I went on a bad day, but I really can't understand the glowing reviews for this pseudo-Japanese restaurant. The two dishes I ordered were uninspiring, to say the least! The 'prawn toast' had the texture and taste of ribbed cardboard and the sushi was little more than white rice with a smearing of salty fish sauce on the top. The wine was okay, but *very* expensive for a run-of-the-mill prosecco.

Having been numerous times, I have come to one conclusion. If I was on death row and I had a choice of one final meal, it would be kaizen. Specifically the Nasi Goreng or the pork ribs. Consistently 10/10.

Super tasty food choices, excellent service and beautiful setting. Our choice was the sushi and the lamb boa buns. Presentation was excellent and we are planning to go back very soon with a bigger group of friends there is no hesitation about recommending this excellent restaurant.

Taken here for a birthday treat really impressed. Been once before when we had the Japanese/Asian Christmas menu. The staff were very friendly and helped us with the menu. Recommended three small dishes were normal so we selected six between the two of us and shared we only managed five but the staff boxed the sixth one up and we enjoyed it for lunch next day. We had dishes such as sushi prawn toast sticky ribs and bao buns all were excellant. As we were celebrating a birthday we had a bottle of wine and beers and a cocktail which pushed the price up. Overall an excellant experience this is a great addition to the Burscough Wharf area.

Very good indeed. And very reasonably priced. Two starters, two mains, two desserts and two drinks - £57 the lot. The tempura veg starter was good, as was the mountain of prawn crackers. Mrs had the crab cakes which she thoroughly enjoyed, and I had the beef massaman which was excellent - the best piece of beef I've had in many a year. It was a huge piece of meat which I had my doubts on when first seeing it, but it just melted in my mouth. It was like eating a beefy sponge cake ,and the massaman sauce was just right, not too hot. I'd give the green stuff a miss the next time though, as it was rather like eating raw kale. We both had the ginger cake/pudding with a mango sorbet and pineapple pieces which was scrumptious. Definitely going again.

Fantastic food and great service.

I always like to give places a second chance and support local. First time round we enjoyed the small plates but we had to send the sushi rolls back as they fell apart. I don’t mind spending money on good sushi and quality ingredients but did find it pricey. However we returned today, service was fine - the lady was polite and lovely. It was quiet which I like as I know we would get the food at its best, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Firstly the halibut fish skewer was extremely salty, I couldn’t eat it. The Vietnamese rolls we had to send back as they were stale (the rice paper was inedible, I think they had been left in the fridge to long) plus they were really loose - very much like my first attempt at cooking school in Vietnam. Not good enough for restaurant especially for the price and very basic ingredients inside. The sushi was probably the best out of the meal but again you don’t feel they are rolled tight enough and way too much rice not enough fish/veg. However I do appreciate the quality of the sashimi is good. I wouldn’t give it a 3rd go unfortunately and will have to travel to Manchester/liverpool

Lovely food Nice venue and good menu choices.

We went for lunch on Friday, and ordered loads of stuff. Absolutly brilliant! Could not fault it! Everyone needs to keep going to this place to ensure it stays here because its an absolute gem. It was a pleasure dining here, thankyou so much x

Really lovely food and super friendly staff. The canal side setting is beautiful too. Not the cheapest in the world but you get what you pay for and this food is amazing.

The ambience is pleasant. However, the menu is quite limited, mainly consisting of starters priced as mains. Unfortunately, the side dishes are not up to par. As a result, you may leave feeling unsatisfied and disappointed with the value for money. Nevertheless, the food itself is flavorful. Although I had been wanting to visit for some time, I do not plan on returning. If you want a fulfilling meal, it's not the place.

Kaizen is local to us therefore, we are very regular customers with only a few items on the menu yet to try. If the restaurant was not local, we would still be very regular attenders. It really is worth a trip. The word Kaizen means continuous improvement which is exactly what the restaurant strives for, just when you think it cannot get any better, it does. Imaginative Japanese inspired small plates with high quality ingredients executed extremely well. Canal side dining, great views, also has a summer terrace for warmer weather. Very attentive, knowledgable and friendly staff. An all round great atmosphere.

Took my wife out for an evening meal. We have never been before but friends have said how good it is. Friendly, attentive staff. Mainly small plates or sushi. Food couldn’t be better. It’s on the expensive side but worth it. I could tell that they only use top quality, natural ingredients. I really recommend the wild mushroom fried rice, absolutely amazing.

Our first time visiting but certainly not the last. We were greeted and taken to our table. Our server explained the menu to us and then took our drinks order. Our server came back and we ordered a selection of meet, fish and vegetable small plates - this was great as we were able to sample a range of foods on the menu. We were not disappointed with our choices, presentation was fantastic and food tasted out of this world. A really enjoyable evening with great service and fabulous food! Thank you, we shall return!

I never usually leave reviews, but felt I had to because of how good the meal and service were at Kaizen. Food is top quality, some of the best sushi I've ever had, but all of the dishes were incredible. Will definitely be going again

Food was great. Not what I was expecting from reading up first. Ended up ordering too much eyes bigger than my belly. Only negative would be the coffee was well below average. ( Obviously no one is going for the coffee) ps try the beef massaman

Lucky Burscough! Would love to have you in Ainsdale. Had a fabulous lunch. Just chose 4 small plates between 2 of us for a light lunch. All truly delicious and beautifully presented. Service was excellent. Ladies loos could do with a bit of attention but didn’t spoil the visit at all. Will definitely return and have recommended it to friends already.

Having been numerous times you come to expect that there will be one occasion when things don't quite hit the mark. NO. Again the team prepared great food, gave great service. Saturday lunch is a good time to go if you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere. Friday or Saturday night for more of a buzz. Great to have you in Burscough. One of my favorites and back again soon.

The food here isn't just good, it's exceptional and it's reasonably priced. Always worth a visit, kindly allowed us to sit on the terrace as we had the dog with us but as with previous evening visits this daytime visit had attentive service and quality food.

Wonderful Staff. Made our dining experience most enjoyable. The dishes were very tasty. They were filling and fresh. The decor was inviting and the restaurant was nicely arranged and the lighting is excellent. The only thing letting them down was the ladies toilets. The ladies toilets need to be kept replenished with toilet rolls and the dispensers filled. We arrived just gone opening and they had not been attended to which is poor.

The sushi collection is very small. Its westernised sushi rather than authentic Japanese sushi. Costly for the amount of food portion.

The most delicious food I've ever eaten. Can't wait to return. The monk fish melted in my mouth. Will be recommending to all my friends and family.

Very varied menu , we tried the sushi and the small plates everyone enjoyed everything. It is not cheap but the food is quality and has lovely flavours. We had a couple of vegetarians with us and the menu easily accommodated them.

Our new favourite restaurant in the Burscough/Ormskirk area. Could not fault anything from start to finish. The food and service was exceptional and great value for money. The waitress, Hope was extremely friendly and had really good knowledge of all the dishes on the menu. Our family of 4 had a real mixture of dishes and they were all fabulous. The standout dishes were the Confit Duck Leg Salad, The Fish Cakes, The Boneless Pork Ribs, Chicken Wings and the Prawn Toast. Ambience in the restaurant is lovely. We will certainly be returning.

Hidden gem! Truly delightful. Ordered a couple of the small plates and a sushi and I can’t complain about a single thing. The flavours all work well, it’s not try-hard and it’s simple food done really well. The star of the show was the peaches and cream dessert! Or was it the prawn toast? Or the spare ribs…? Service was really good, very informal and friendly but also helpful with recommendations and what their favourite dishes were and why, so that was nice. The atmosphere was nice, it was about half full, but despite this, it didn’t feel like it was too noisy. There is a nice, easy ambience. Really happy to have found this place. Well worth a trip. Looking forward to going back already!

Friendly staff and great setting/location. The vegan curry was nice but the butternut squash was a bit under cooked. The vegan ice cream was really tasty but over priced for 2 small scoops.

Food was amazing, definitely worth a visit. Lovely to see such a clean open kitchen producing such quality food!

Weird sushi bar, only sold burgers and wings?

Really enjoyed the food from here fresh ingredients and great tasting flavour. When you order the plates, they explained its kind of a Asian tapas, so we sampled a lot of the menu and was able to bring home some that we couldn't finish. Highly recommend a visit, especially if you love sweet flavoured food, tick's the box in this area. Even the desert was great. See the pics. A must try restaurant and we certainly will be eevisiting jn the not so distant future.

Absolutely delicious food with a twist, loved the fact that it was a little different. Tip- If you want to relax and enjoy the meal, don't order all your food at once, as it all comes together, just order a couple of starter's, when finished then order your next courses.
