The best Chinese food I have eaten in the UK. The food is just really good, I can never leave without taking something for lunch the next day as well. It mostly caters for a Chinese audience. Any time we've been there, about 90% of the guests were Chinese, which is a great sign in my opinion! Not all the servers speak English, but they are helpful and will get someone to help if needed. For the quality and portion sizes, it's also very reasonably priced.

Just called in for dim sum. Friendly welcome and service, a wonderfully large pot of jasmine tea and more than happy with the selection available. Excellent value too

Attentive service with perfect choy cookery and many stand-out dishes including Szechwan. Good, comforting atmosphere on weekdays with homely, bustling Cantonese feel on weekends. Standouts: Ha gow are heavenly, plump, deliciously flavored bundles of joy. Szechwan dumpling have great Szechwan pepper flavour. Prawn and scallop dumpling an excellent example of elevated dim sum cookery. Spicy Shanghai choy with perfect steam is worth a visit alone. Deep fried squid legs are perfectly spiced and the only authentic squid legs – not calamari -the Rat knows of in Europe. Not so good: Tea can be over brewed. Service: Polite and attentive or yum cha efficient if you signal for it. There is a % service charge, as is normal at yum cha restaurants in England

Can I shake Joy’s hand? Her kitchen and staff are amazing! All puns aside, I had an amazing experience. The atmosphere felt like home away from home. I felt really welcomed, our server Ling was an amazing help from the jump! She knew what she was doing, from the minute we stepped her beautiful smile graced us and made us feel comfortable. The staff? Amazing Now let’s talk about the food. No bloody complaints round ere pal. Amazing authentic food and guess what? Fast bloody service! If you’re wondering where to eat on a night, check out Joy’s you won’t be disappointed!

Had dim sum here. Superb -- hands down the best in Leeds. Cheung Fan was silky, as were the skins of the ha kow (虾饺). Siew mai had fish roe on it, as did the asparagus/ scollop dumplings. Added mango sago as dessert which was also v good. The tea was unexpectedly good as well. The stuff here isn't super cheap -- but you definitely get your money's worth. Definitely coming back to try a la carte.

Came for our staff Christmas meal. The food was fantastic. A lot of choice to accommodate everyone and plenty of vegetarian options. Drinks were ok and service was great. Overall very good experience. Fast and prompt

Food is really good and I can say the quality is even better than many restaurants in China, let alone how fast they can serve a dish after we order. People are crying over a 10% service charge in the reviews but we are happily paying for that since the waitresses are so lovely and helpful(also the service charge is written on the menu if you pay attention). The price of dishes is actually very fair and will definitely go often. But if you are there for some authentic westernized Chinese cuisine—like those salt and pepper dishes—you'll definitely think the prices are not a bargain compared to your luxurious takeout.

EDIT: I was checking other reviews and found out about this place’s insistence that you pay the service charge. I was not the person paying during our meal and my dad didn’t check the bill, but I do remember hearing the total was higher than I expected. I have altered my review scoring because I believe this is a very unreasonable way to treat customers, even though I enjoyed the food and my time there. It makes me reconsider returning to the establishment. The rest is my original review. Earlier this month I came here with my dad after struggling to find seats at many other places nearby and I’m really glad we ended up here. We came late in the evening, shortly before they would stop taking orders. It was a weekend but the place was nice and quiet for us, only a couple other groups in eating. The food was brought to our table very quickly, which was great as we were starving! The food was high quality and in great portions. I got to try some things like Peking Duck and found out that it’s really delicious! The staff were really friendly and helpful. They suggested that we do not order too much when we were unfamiliar with the portion sizes, and they were absolutely right. Definitely appreciated the tip because we wouldn’t have been able to finish our meal otherwise, and it’d be a shame to waste such nice food. We both got the meal deal that lets you choose a soup, a main (rice or noodles), and a side, as you can see in the photo. It also came with the Peking Duck. Very filling and delicious! Came here for dinner with a few friends on Friday and the place was quite packed the whole night. The dishes we ordered were overall of decent taste though we found some of them to be a bit salty. Good portion sizes for the price.

Came here for a family meal and had dim sum which was lovely! The restaurant was so accommodating to make some congee that was suitable for my baby to eat too.

Busy place, good pricing. We ordered off the "English menu" which included all the typical Chinese dishes I would expect. The shared starter was my least favourite as it all tasted the same. Good size portions too.

This was my first time eating dim sum at Joy's Kitchen with my friends who live in Manchester. We both thought that the food was amazing, especially the seaweed prawn rolls. The staff were nice as well, and we had a great time this afternoon. Thank you!

Mandatory service charges are a terrible practice and are actually illegal. Don't eat here and support restaurants that prey on people like this.

A discretionary service charge is an optional payment added to a customer's bill that's usually for the work of the server. Customers can choose to pay the charge or not, and can ask to have it removed from their bill. However, the waiter forced us to pay the service charge and said it is mandatory. I work in a restaurant and knew that this is not right but still the waiter said it is compulsory. Used to love dining in here alot but now will try to avoid here. Disappointed

A very presentable restaurant with some picturesque fittings. Friendly staff and well managed. Can get busy on the weekends and you'll find it difficult to get a seat. Strongly recommend this venue for parties! The mapo tofu is recommended; there is a substantial amount of Sichuan dishes available to those who are a fan! Look forward to coming again!

We visited Joy's following a recommendation from a friend for good dim sum, we were so delighted to have found this spot and will definitely be visiting again! We came for lunch, it was very busy inside but the staff attended to us very promptly and were very friendly. The dim sum menu is what we came for but some of the dishes flying out of the kitchen from the main menu looked absolutely incredible too. We ordered four plates but this included the dim sum platter (pictured) which equated to about 2.5 of the regular dishes, so pretty good value We were thoroughly delighted by the food - the roast pork is to die for and we had it in the steamed buns and the cheung fun, so if you've visiting make sure you order something with the roast pork inside. The dumplings were melt in the mouth and had a nice profile of different flavours and textures, the cheung fun was so delicate and soft, and the prawns were so fresh and tender. The staff were very friendly, polite, and efficient despite what was a very busy service for them with dishes flying out of the kitchen. All in all we spent £35 for a quick lunch, which was a pleasant surprise and we'll definitely be coming back and ordering more dishes perhaps from the main menu as well. Looking forward to returning to our new favourite dim sum spot!

This place has the most amazing food. If unfamiliar with the menu items be adventurous try something that sounds unusual, turnip cakes with xo sauce, is just stunning here. Also really good value

Busy with a high number of Chinese clients which is always a good sign. Had house special crispy noodles, morning glory with bean curd and a beer for around £30. The morning glory is nice fresh and cooked just right. The noodles are slightly different from how it's normally cooked for my taste. Too much food. Good friendly waitress. Not a massive extensive menu which is not always a bad thing.

The quality is average (the food in the restaurant is actually lukewarm), the attitude is average (some waiters will make you feel like you owe her money for eating there), and the price is on the expensive side (average consumption per person is 20+ half full). This is an authentic Chinese restaurant in Leeds. It's not a half-assed fusion or chain restaurant, and the staff are all friendly and seem to be from China. The taste is very good and there is a wide variety of food and alcohol. Most of the customers are Asian, so it's easy to enjoy. I recommend this as a very good restaurant in Leeds.

Absolutely outstanding food. We stumbled across this little gem while walking in town yesterday and sat down for Dim Sum, one of our favourite foods. It’s an absolutely fabulous place, very clean and the food is out of this world. The staff were excellent . Thank you so much.

I went to this restaurant twice after spending a few days in Leeds and ordered different dishes. The few dishes we ordered for the second time, my family and I all felt that they were not as delicious as the first time. However, we comforted ourselves that being able to eat decent Chinese food overseas was more appetizing than eating white people’s food. . 😂

We absolutely love this restaurant..my friend and I have eaten here three times and the most recent visit was last Thursday 23rd May. I chose pork and vegetables with fried rice. Wow! A lovely taste of garlic hit me straight away. I would highly recommend this meal. My friend had chicken curry (he's not too adventurous) ssshhh don't tell him! He really enjoyed it and I tasted the sauce, it was very good. Enough about the food! The staff are wonderful, smiling and friendly. The best service too, and they were busy upstairs and downstairs. If you love Chinese food, go to Joys Kitchen you won't be disappointed. Well done everyone ❤️❤️

Very disappointing. It's rare I write bad reviews. Started with won tong soup which was tasteless and the fillings were soft and lacked flavor. I then had dim sums which were mainly greasy and little flavor. What made it worse, was I told the person at the desk,who to gave a tiny amount off, but showed absolutely no interest in what I was telling her. When I said aren't you bothered about my bad experience she just looked at her colleague and shrugged. Won't be going back again

The stir-fried water spinach was cold. It came out within two minutes of ordering. It turned out that the previous table didn’t want it. My friend recommended it. It was stir-fried and the beef was hot and sour. It was full of ginger and there weren’t even a few pieces. It was a complete surprise to the waiter. The family and their children were playing very loudly next to our table and it was very noisy.

This place is legit! As with all Chinese restaurants, avoid the English only menu and eat the food stuff!

There’s one mid age waitress super rude, kept arguing with customers, food is average, be aware of the hidden service charge!

Visited here with friends before going to the arena. Staff were very friendly explaining the three different menus. Can’t fault any of the dishes we had. All were fleshly cook and hot. The only fault I can come up with is the waiter wasn’t really sure if some foods were cooked in but oil. Will definitely return when I next go to Leeds

Got seated and there were 2 menus on the table then they brought a 3rd one making things more confusing it's hard to really figure out what is a main course. I ended up ordering some ox maw thing unaware that it's basically tripe some dumbo text underneath could of helped making me aware of what I was ordering. Took awhile to actually get our order taken but apart from my weird taste in food by my mistake thinking I was ordering ox meat instead of stomach it all came looking pretty good.

I asked my friend to recommend a Dim Sum place in Leeds and here is what she suggested. A very fancy set-up unlike the traditional place we used to go in Manchester. I was a bit nervous as we saw everyone around ordering dishes instead - but we still went for Dimsum and I am glad to make such a choice! Super impressive with the Oozing custard bun as I always crave for running custard but was always disappointed. I also found Chinese Dough Sticky Cheung Fun pretty nice and this is also a rare one in many other. Prawn dumplings and Siumai were both nice just not exceptionally WOW nevertheless still up to standard. What I won’t recommend is the crispy fried squid. It came in simmering hot but was overcooked. Also the squid became dry and solid and we found it hard to chew. It was £35 for two people which is a fair price. Quite worth the visit given that their food quality is already so much better than many other Chinese Dimsum place in the northwest. I would definitely come back to try more kinds of dimsum and dishes next time!

Visited here with friends last weekend, it’s a bit of a cattle market! Tables squeezed in very tight. Had a chicken noodle dish and found the chicken very slimy. Really quite expensive for the quality of food you’re getting. The service is quite cold, apart from the lovely girl who took our order I found everyone else quite abrupt! Will not return, and would not recommend.

Food is good, but their service is shockingly slow and rudest staff who talks about you in their language. Really uncomfortable. Will buy takeaway from them, but management must do something about their staffs attitude.

We had a lovely meal, very tasty. We were impressed how many asian people eat here and of different age groups. Being typical british people, we ate off the menu we know, but it would have been nice to have some advice on the more authentic menu, as what we were looking at other people eating, far out weighed what we were eating.

We have visited Joy’s Kitchen several times and have always been impressed by the quality of the food, the cheerful staff, the atmosphere and the general cleanliness of the place. The menus can take a little bit of navigation with some “interesting” dishes (pork fat end for instance). Some dishes are well spicy - be careful. We have not had anything other than an enjoyable meal in very pleasant surroundings served by staff who always appear happy. A real treat. Would we go back? A definite “Yes”.

The best authentic Chinese restaurant in Leeds. We received three menus - regular, Chinese, and dim sum one. Regular menu is less spicy if you prefer, but I would rather recommend Chinese one. One of my favourite restaurants I've been to in a long time, it felt really authentic. They have 2 menus and as standard they will usually give you the English only menu, but do yourself a favour and get a Chinese menu (which also has English translations on it). It's much larger and has some really good stuff on it. Ask the servers to recommend stuff as well, they really know their stuff. Everyone here was so friendly and every recommendation was absolute fire. Honestly the most incredible and unique meal I've had in ages. I can't wait to go back.

We only had limited time so they accommodated us brilliantly bringing food all at once and turning it around in 30 mins so we could catch train. Food was nice, bit pricey but overall would go back and hopefully next time have more of a leisurely pace to order etc. Service was excellent though the poor reviews are certainly not what we encountered

Other than a bit of unfortunate drama on arrival, when another family was trying to leave without paying, and the owner was naturally rather upset and angry, we had a lovely meal. The restaurant was pleasantly full of diners - I even bumped into a former bride whose wedding I had shot on an island in Lake Toba, North Sumatra - so an eventful experience all round. Good food too and a delightful young man serving us!

After seeing the manager bring people upstairs I asked her when will my place be available. Shegave me a full speech about my space is clearing up and I should understand them being busy and I should be able to expect to wait for at least 15 minutes and if I am not happy with this arrangement now I can leave. It is not what I have originally agreed on before at all! After she realized that she made a mistake of mistaking us as the ten people group, she made no attempt to apologize for the least bit!! This level of customer service is completely unaccepetable especially when I have been there twice and left a 20 pound deposit for the third time. Usually they also charge for a service fee with indifferent staff who perform a service as any other ordinary place who do not charge a service fee. I do not know why they would ask for a service fee without even give customers a mediocre service. And now the manager started yelling at people and basically asked regular customers to leave!! I do not know how this level of service is tolerable to anyone. I actually like the food even though some suggest that it is premade and been frozen. Now I will never go back there again. It is difficult to have faith in their food when the level of service is an absolute minus.

The food is always delicious, service is fast and the restaurant is clean.

Disappointing experience. After dutifully waiting in the queue for over an hour for my table I was shocked to see others who were way behind me in the q being promoted ahead only because they were a large group meaning more revenue. Shamefully greedy.

Went there to celebrate Chinese New Year. Even though it is busy, they are quick to clear the table and let us sit down. The food came out fairly quickly and they are absolutely delicious!

I was excited to try this new restaurant particularly as it seemed fairly traditional and we were not disappointed by the food which was very tasty, well presented and sensible portions. But we felt a little unloved by the slightly unfriendly service. We will however be back. UPDATE we've been back several times and the service is much improved although not always ideal. They have a decent selection on their menu but the staff is a bit stiff with variations of dishes. The dim sum is delicious and my friends generally enjoy it there. I frequent the restaurants in Leeds a lot and it’ standards are good enough. When it’s not to my liking, it’s just not to my liking rather than me saying it didn’t taste nice. I find the congee a little too runny and weirdly the fish fillet congee only contains that and nothing else (would have thought some sort of veg), the Xiao long baos should maybe have a little cup at bottom to catch the sauce that usually gets lost when they split the Bao during cooking process or when picking it up with chopsticks and on the last occasion the satay whelks were very dry and chewy lacking sauce. This isn’t going to stop us coming here as the staff does take on board little criticisms like these which shows good service and improvements as in certain there’s always teething issues.

Very rude waitress, asking us to pay the optional service charge because she managed to fix her own mistakes???? The girl took the order for our food wrongly, when we gave her the feedback she said the restaurant actually didnt have the dish we ordered. When we pointed out at the dish on the menu, she then blamed us that All OF US was not paying ENOUGH attention when she confirmed the order for our table :) We then went forward and said we can have the wrong dish. She said oke then left. After few minutes, the kind guy came back and said he would give us the correct dish. The girl then came back AGAIN and keep blaming us that it was our fault and NEXT TIME we should pay more attention??? (Definitely no next time). So disappointed with the attitude of the waitress, we decided not to pay the OPTION service charge. However, when paying the bill, the same girl said we did not pay enough and we have to pay the service charge BECAUSE she changed the dish for us. We refused and she kept repeating that we have to pay the service because it was our fault, how surprising! When we asked to see the manager, she finally left and went downstairs, yelling with her colleague in Chinese (which everyone knows what was the topic about). What a horrific experience!

Real authentic Chinese food which is just delicious. Well priced and they have a good drinks selection. Can’t wait to go back!top tip, the menu with Chinese writing on is more authentic
