G-Wu Restaurant Bar Takeaway in Leeds

This was the most incredible food! Everything was cooked to perfection. The starters and mains came out quickly but yet they were piping hot and you could tell were completely fresh. All the staff/waiters were great, very attentive and friendly. The manager Simon (Simone😉) was so funny and had a good laugh with us, he is running a really great restaurant and I can't wait to come back when I visit from Scotland again. 😋

I recently dined at this Chinese restaurant and had a great experience. The place is beautifully decorated, with a comfortable setting that makes it easy to relax. The service was top-notch, with attentive and friendly staff making us feel welcome. The tea was delicious and refreshing, and the dinner was quite tasty. However, the portion sizes were a bit smaller than expected, and the prices were on the higher side. Overall, it’s a lovely spot for a special meal if you're willing to splurge a little!

Large and varied gluten free menu which all 6 of us ordered from although only one of our party is coeliac. Separate gluten free menu with so much choice! We had mixed starter, salt and pepper prawn, beef in black bean, szechuan chicken, crispy beef, duck with mixed veg, vermicelli noodles, chips and rice and shared it all. It was so good for our daughter to be able to have Chinese food and, as we all shared, she could try a bit of everything. It was amazing and nicer than any other Chinese restaurant I've been to. They have a full gluten free menu and everything is cooked separately. The service was really good, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this to anyone and well worth travelling for.

7 in our party booked here for a birthday party event . Each and everyone enjoyed the starters and mains, 5 had never been here before but all said they would go again as the food and service was fabulous . So next birthday party night out for all us 7 will be in April so we will be back .

Todos y cada uno dijo que la comida era fabulosa y el tamaño de la porción era muy bueno de hecho. El personal estaba atento y animado sobre la limpieza y reinicio de mesas, pero siempre estamos a mano para atender a nuestras necesidades. Amazing food and service to match. Great atmosphere for a Wednesday night too.

the food was amazing, the service was fantastic and it helped that the owner spoke French. 😆 probably one of the best Chinese restaurants I've eaten at in Leeds. I normally always take away but this time I ate in. I'll probably eat in often more now.

This is an excellent venue for vegetarians (and non-vegetarians) to enjoy Chinese food. The vegetarian starter platter was devoured by us! The mains came in after a short gap and they were excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the ambience was very good. This place is highly recommended by me!

El restaurante es muy elegante. El ambiente es tranquilo y seguro. El personal de espera está presente sin estar "sobre presente". El tacto ligero es la mejor descripción. Guardar lo mejor para el final. La comida. Maravilloso fresco, ligero con una profundidad de sabores increíble. No se va a poner todo efusivo y florido solo inténtalo por ti mismo.

Mixed views on this … we both ordered soup to start followed by crispy garlic chilli beef and fried rice … the soup was poor but edible and very very hot heat wise (microwave ?) … the crispy chilli beef was ghastly if you didn’t know it was supposed to be beef you could not tell, it was tasteless and lacked crispness as for the fried rice it was a paltry portion and lacked flavour … on paying the bill Simon (the owner?) knocked of the price of the beef dishes but chose to still charge for the fried rice ! One without the other was pointless !!! This place is expensive £4.50 for prawn crackers 🙈 (man’s a fool) go to Joys Kichen or Wens for great food at the right price with peerless service with a smile.

No habíamos estado por un buen tiempo, cuatro de nosotros fuimos a cenar y la comida era excelente. Los chicos eran corteses, amables y atentos. El menú es extenso y el vegetariano en nuestra fiesta estaba verdaderamente bien atendido. No puedo pedir más.

This might be one of the best restaurant in Leeds. Food has great quality, the service is smashing!!! The staff is so professional and friendly giving you a great experience spending some quality time. Mention for a price: prices are not high, and you are in Chapel Allerton. Amazing restaurant

Food was sooo so bland!!!… First time I’ve tried this place due to it being recommended…. Was bitterly disappointed! Very sub par, especially for the high price we paid.

My family and I went to this restaurant for the first time last night after a good recommendation from a friend. It was absolutely fantastic. The food was some of the best Chinese food I’ve had and the service was excellent. Everything was spot on!

Mediocre, over priced for the quality, bulked out with onions

Excellent gluten-free menu with plenty of options, and the staff took great care with allergen orders, providing gluten-free alternatives (e.g. soy sauce). The service was outstanding-polite, friendly, and attentive. They even surprised the birthday girl with a scoop of ice cream and a candle. Thank you for a lovely meal!

Six of us went for a family meal. Food fabulous and plenty to eat. Lots of choice on the menu and the team were more than happy to accommodate our requests for adjustments. The service was first class. Would highly recommend.

Edit**** Rating changed from 1 star to 5 star. Further to the review below, revisited G-Woo. This place has really taken on the feedback left by myself and others. They have really made an effort to get back to the reputation of the previous owners. Food was great and as good as it used to be. Staff were friendly , helpful and very attentive. Good work G-Woo. Will happily return. (Since under new ownership, this place has gone downhill. This used to be my go to chinese restaurant since it opened in 2011 however I will now need to look elsewhere. I made a reservation tonight, when i arrived at the restaurant, my family and i were told that there was no booking under our name. Obviously very confused by this, i showed the member of staff the call log and explained that this was confirmed. He told me again that no booking existed but he would find out. This was followed by radio silence for around 15 minutes until i went to the member of staff again to find out what was happening. Once again, my family and i were left waiting with no update for another 10 minutes. At this point, we left as we felt ridiculous waiting. The member of staff was truly the most unhelpful person i have ever come across. Very disappointing, will not be returning. You have lost a loyal customer)

Thought I’d get Chinese on the way home ordered Singapore vermicelli and not a lot of meat in here and that’s putting it politely!!! Mainly all noodles n for £11.80 is disgrace full!!!! If there’s 2 pound in that you’re lucky!! Won’t be back The food was a lot better when it was Jade dragon!! Well over priced that’s for sure!! RIP off!!!

Takeaway order- very disappointed with our meal. The food was tasteless, the rice was horrible and the prawn crackers tasted like soap. We have been coming here for years but since changing hands it’s clearly not the same standard of food. Will not be coming again. Do not recommend.

Service is great and food is excellent. They have plenty of room in the upstairs restaurant for big and small parties. Food comes quickly and staff are attentive but not overly so.

Went to this restaurant as me and my two children have coeliac disease and are gluten free . K Woo is highly recommended as a gluten free restaurant and it didn’t disappoint , food was amazing , service fantastic , Simon and the team provided us with a fantastic evening of delicious GF food and good conversation and a good laugh too. Will be definitely returning maybe just me and wife though , leave the kids at home next time 😉 MOT ALAW

Decided to return to G-Wu with the family to find that it has changed hands and rebranded to G-Woo since we last visited. Looking it up, we were nearly put off looking at some of the negative reviews but we resolved to give it a go and make up our own minds. I'm glad we did, because it was as good as we remembered! We were a group of six and chose the combination starter for three with some extra prawn toast, then the crispy chilli beef, lemon chicken, chicken udon and king prawn chow mein. This was a perfect amount for our group and we couldn't fault any of it. Definitely still one that we recommend.

Very tasty food. Excellent service, very attentive and friendly staff. They try to serve you quick as possible but with many take aways orders coming into the kitchen some times the service is a bit slow. I don’t blame them as the food is very high quality. A very nice dinning experience overall.

Amazing, coeliac safe food! Cannot recommend this enough for the gluten free community (and everyone else too)! A separate, clearly marked gluten free menu which included salt and pepper chips, prawn toast, many sauces for stir fry options (eg satay, OK), and gluten free noodle dishes. The choice was amazing, and the food was absolutely delicious. My non gluten free partner also loved his Singapore noodles. Very friendly, professional service from all staff, and the nicest Chinese I've ever had (including before I had to eat gluten free). The restaurant is also very clean and looks beautiful with ming vases and traditional art work. A lovely place to celebrate an occasion. Thank you so much! We will be back!

Lovely staff but since it’s changed management the quality and taste has gone down massively. Really disappointing. Hot and spicy beef which used to be awesome is just msg style/ flowery rubbish. I’ve mentioned that the food is not as good as it used to be but no change. Still order occasionally hoping that they’ve realised but no. Average and certainly not worth the money:(

This is the best Chinese restaurant we have been to, and we have been to quite a lot. Food is first class, dservice and politness is excelent. Cleaniness is amazing. FANTASTIC

Lovely takeaway, food is really fresh and tasty, however the price is extortionate. £56 for 3 mains with rice, 2 chips and a bag of prawn crackers.

Not as good since new management. We were a party of 13 people celebrating a special birthday. Drinks came quickly but food took ages. No apologies either. Sharing platters were misleading and no free prawn crackers anymore, despite our large bill. Birthday cake brought out at wrong time. Otherwise the staff were very courteous.

I can not believe they have changed ownership! I’m absolutely devastated, this used to be my favourite Chinese but I went there last night and the food has seriously gone down hill even though the prices haven’t! They still have a good range of vegan options but they need to reflect the lower quality with lower prices. I probably won’t go here again! Ahh man.. this one hurt!!

Since this has changed hands it has seriously gone down hill. Food is inferior and the service is horrendous. Got my order wrong and asked me to bring back the dish and pay the £1 uplift in price difference. What a joke!!! Will not be re visiting . Word has spread that this place is no longer what’s used to be!!

First class in every way from service to the high quality food. Best chinese meal in a long time. Some people are saying its changed quality since it changed hands. It has, its better than ever.

Contrary to popular believe this place is fantastic in every way. From the clean restaurant, to the superb staff, and the first class food, served on lovely hot plates. People are scoring this place low and they my have their reasons, bur we found it to be amazing....

The food was dreadful, overpriced and tasteless; it made me ill. Used to be good - but seems to have changed hands - and its name. I am never eating there again; I don't recommend this place, at all. Would give it zero stars if I could.

Just had a take away for 3 - eaten in and had take away from here before but not last 6 months. It was terrible- spring rolls not cooked through, udons both chicken and pork so tasteless we left them Very disappointing

Ate here tonight after finding them on google .Been a Celiac is so hard to find a decent chinese that cater for my needs .Have to say the staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was beautiful .Was highly delighted with the service alround and will defo be a returning customer .

I was a little worried going after seeing they had changed hands since I'd last visited and their menu doesn't look as good however the food was as good as ever and most things are still there just the menu isn't as clear. I would still recommend it.

Service is rushed , rude and the food is nowhere near as good it used to be . , the tip was short but a few pence and the staff moaned about it .

Takeaway order - Your food is no longer up to scratch. My order tasted reheated and was way over priced. I ate it because if paid for it and I was hungry, but it honestly wasn’t the best. You've increased your prices so pleaseee improve your standard of food for the customer you have left. I won’t be ordering again.

It's OK. Nothing special, typical English Chinese. The starters were not cooked from scratch, they were heated up and felt hard. I do not expect this from a quality restaurant. Service was poor, had to remind them for things and there was no top up of water.

This has been my favourite Chinese restaurant for many years. However tonight we were served terrible food. The salt and pepper ribs were incredibly hard. Most worrying however was the chicken in lemon sauce which had the texture of uncooked chicken. Usually this dish is tender and delicious. The vermicelli noodles were also very rubbery. I think the change of chef is very noticeable in the worst way. The response from the head waiter was very disappointing. We were regulars here and he made very little effort to recognise the poor quality of food that we were served this evening. One of our dishes was not charged for, despite us both having chicken in lemon sauce. More disappointingly, the apology was almost non existent. It was a very disappointing birthday experience. This place is not recommended.

Reasonably big open space, brightly lit and reasonably busy. Service is ok, bit on the slow side but friendly enough. The food is the same Chinese food you see and taste on a menu from the 80s. Greasy starters, high coloured and gloopy mains. If that’s your thing, then great. If not, be prepared for average retro

This was our favourite Chinese in Leeds and we got a takeaway tonight and am afraid to say it will be our last meal here! The crispy duck was cold, the satay beef was bright yellow and as strong as a curry from Bradford! Lastly the beef with ginger and spring onions not only lacked spring onions but had no taste. For those regular visitors will know that G-Wu were famous for large pieces of meat in their dishes. This has been reduced to strips of meet made to look like you have as much meat as before when in fact it has been reduced by 50%! Also at the prices charged I am not prepared to be ripped off again! It’s a shame how quickly new management can ruin a good business.

Service is very important not just good food, i found the staff were attentive but food was a little bit slow when they are busy, but then again I expect to wait more than 1/2 to get food when the place is busy, what count is the staff did appreciate me there and apologetic for delays in kitchen. Food is decent and plentiful portions which didnt leave me hungry or feeling thirsty.

Had to come here twice within a week. A really family friendly restaurant with a wide selection of dishes which include a full vegan / gluten free menu! There’s something for even the pickiest of eaters. Staff are really friendly and attentive.

Dined and ordered takeaways for years and it was always excellent. The recent takeaway was poor, everything was stale; it’s really gone downhill, I wouldn’t bother again.

Review April 2023 Mixed experiences. I wouldn’t bother with takeaway. They tell you a time to collect and you’ll be sat waiting an additional 20 minutes (this has happened more than once). Partner said the last time he ordered he was disappointed with it. Other times it’s been nice. — Review October 2021 We tried G Wu once for takeaway and it was okay, but coming for a meal in was a totally different experience. The food was delicious. Loved the salt and pepper squid, satay skewers, g wu chow mein, crispy beef and salt and pepper chips. Big portions. Can’t wait to go back.

We were a little nervous of going the this restaurant for Mothers Day after reading some of the reviews on here. However, I have to say we had a really lovely experience! The food was plentiful & absolutely delicious and we had no issue with the service. Staff were polite, knowledgeable & prompt with both food & drink. Our only small suggestion would be that they warm the plates before giving them out & that maybe some heaters on the table to keep food warm would have been the icing on the cake! Don’t be put off by the negative reviews - try it for yourself! Hopefully, you will have as good a time as we did!

Ok, so it's Saturday night and busy... But after waiting 40 minutes for starters and then 50 more for mains what came out was, well, average to say the least. Little flavour in the soup, no beef to be seen in the crispy fried beef, was more scraps and sauce, but the sweet and sour was ok. Perhaps they were just having a bad night but you know when one of your guests says one dish is amazing over and over it's because it's surrounded by things that just aren't and they are trying to overcompensate. Can't say I'll be returning for them to redeem themselves. Unfortunate.

We were seated quickly and the staff were polite. The food was generally nice but nothing special and there was hardly any, if any at all, meat inside the crispy beef. The service was hit and miss. When we arrived we were approached to order many times, even after asking for a few minutes, several times. When the food arrived, nobody came to ask if everything was okay. When we had finished, the waiter took our food away and packaged it up for us, but nobody came with the bill, we were just ignored. I think G-Wu has gone downhill since we last visited, and we will not be in a big hurry to return.

Disappointing takeaway service. What is point of booking people in for collections then expecting people to wait for an hour after the agreed time. Clearly need a system review and I haven't had the chance to review the food. Lots of unhappy people tonight.

Got takeaway frome here yesterday I ordered spring rolls very mushy inside there where diffently been frozen had chicken prawns in a gooey sauce it was not edible I asked for my money back was not interested worst Chinese food ever the place needs closing down there need reporting to health and safety avoid at all costs

Genuinely one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to in recent years, the prawn toast there is the best I've ever had, and the char siu I had as a main was great too. Portion sizes were really generous too. 10/10 will be going again

Takeaway tonight. Terrible. Been going for years and the worst I have ever had. Ribs burnt Egg fried rice, no egg in it Chicken in ok, really gluteny Beef and peppers , massive uncooked peppers Spring rolls , full of blobs of cooking fat. All went in the bin half eaten. Seems cost cutting gone too far or had the good chef gone on holiday. Not a happy bunny especially when the price is top notch. Seriously let yourselves down.

Really good food but I think they need to get better at their time management. Waited 35 mins in the restaurant after the time I was told. Other customers were getting frustrated also by the slow service. Get this right and it would be 5 stars without a doubt.
