My family and I went to this restaurant for the first time last night after a good recommendation from a friend. It was absolutely fantastic. The food was some of the best Chinese food I’ve had and the service was excellent. Everything was spot on!

Mediocre, over priced for the quality, bulked out with onions

Excellent gluten-free menu with plenty of options, and the staff took great care with allergen orders, providing gluten-free alternatives (e.g. soy sauce). The service was outstanding-polite, friendly, and attentive. They even surprised the birthday girl with a scoop of ice cream and a candle. Thank you for a lovely meal!

Six of us went for a family meal. Food fabulous and plenty to eat. Lots of choice on the menu and the team were more than happy to accommodate our requests for adjustments. The service was first class. Would highly recommend.

Edit**** Rating changed from 1 star to 5 star. Further to the review below, revisited G-Woo. This place has really taken on the feedback left by myself and others. They have really made an effort to get back to the reputation of the previous owners. Food was great and as good as it used to be. Staff were friendly , helpful and very attentive. Good work G-Woo. Will happily return. (Since under new ownership, this place has gone downhill. This used to be my go to chinese restaurant since it opened in 2011 however I will now need to look elsewhere. I made a reservation tonight, when i arrived at the restaurant, my family and i were told that there was no booking under our name. Obviously very confused by this, i showed the member of staff the call log and explained that this was confirmed. He told me again that no booking existed but he would find out. This was followed by radio silence for around 15 minutes until i went to the member of staff again to find out what was happening. Once again, my family and i were left waiting with no update for another 10 minutes. At this point, we left as we felt ridiculous waiting. The member of staff was truly the most unhelpful person i have ever come across. Very disappointing, will not be returning. You have lost a loyal customer)

Thought I’d get Chinese on the way home ordered Singapore vermicelli and not a lot of meat in here and that’s putting it politely!!! Mainly all noodles n for £11.80 is disgrace full!!!! If there’s 2 pound in that you’re lucky!! Won’t be back The food was a lot better when it was Jade dragon!! Well over priced that’s for sure!! RIP off!!!

Takeaway order- very disappointed with our meal. The food was tasteless, the rice was horrible and the prawn crackers tasted like soap. We have been coming here for years but since changing hands it’s clearly not the same standard of food. Will not be coming again. Do not recommend.

Service is great and food is excellent. They have plenty of room in the upstairs restaurant for big and small parties. Food comes quickly and staff are attentive but not overly so.

Went to this restaurant as me and my two children have coeliac disease and are gluten free . K Woo is highly recommended as a gluten free restaurant and it didn’t disappoint , food was amazing , service fantastic , Simon and the team provided us with a fantastic evening of delicious GF food and good conversation and a good laugh too. Will be definitely returning maybe just me and wife though , leave the kids at home next time 😉 MOT ALAW

Decided to return to G-Wu with the family to find that it has changed hands and rebranded to G-Woo since we last visited. Looking it up, we were nearly put off looking at some of the negative reviews but we resolved to give it a go and make up our own minds. I'm glad we did, because it was as good as we remembered! We were a group of six and chose the combination starter for three with some extra prawn toast, then the crispy chilli beef, lemon chicken, chicken udon and king prawn chow mein. This was a perfect amount for our group and we couldn't fault any of it. Definitely still one that we recommend.

Very tasty food. Excellent service, very attentive and friendly staff. They try to serve you quick as possible but with many take aways orders coming into the kitchen some times the service is a bit slow. I don’t blame them as the food is very high quality. A very nice dinning experience overall.

Amazing, coeliac safe food! Cannot recommend this enough for the gluten free community (and everyone else too)! A separate, clearly marked gluten free menu which included salt and pepper chips, prawn toast, many sauces for stir fry options (eg satay, OK), and gluten free noodle dishes. The choice was amazing, and the food was absolutely delicious. My non gluten free partner also loved his Singapore noodles. Very friendly, professional service from all staff, and the nicest Chinese I've ever had (including before I had to eat gluten free). The restaurant is also very clean and looks beautiful with ming vases and traditional art work. A lovely place to celebrate an occasion. Thank you so much! We will be back!

Lovely staff but since it’s changed management the quality and taste has gone down massively. Really disappointing. Hot and spicy beef which used to be awesome is just msg style/ flowery rubbish. I’ve mentioned that the food is not as good as it used to be but no change. Still order occasionally hoping that they’ve realised but no. Average and certainly not worth the money:(

This is the best Chinese restaurant we have been to, and we have been to quite a lot. Food is first class, dservice and politness is excelent. Cleaniness is amazing. FANTASTIC

Lovely takeaway, food is really fresh and tasty, however the price is extortionate. £56 for 3 mains with rice, 2 chips and a bag of prawn crackers.

Not as good since new management. We were a party of 13 people celebrating a special birthday. Drinks came quickly but food took ages. No apologies either. Sharing platters were misleading and no free prawn crackers anymore, despite our large bill. Birthday cake brought out at wrong time. Otherwise the staff were very courteous.

I can not believe they have changed ownership! I’m absolutely devastated, this used to be my favourite Chinese but I went there last night and the food has seriously gone down hill even though the prices haven’t! They still have a good range of vegan options but they need to reflect the lower quality with lower prices. I probably won’t go here again! Ahh man.. this one hurt!!

Since this has changed hands it has seriously gone down hill. Food is inferior and the service is horrendous. Got my order wrong and asked me to bring back the dish and pay the £1 uplift in price difference. What a joke!!! Will not be re visiting . Word has spread that this place is no longer what’s used to be!!

First class in every way from service to the high quality food. Best chinese meal in a long time. Some people are saying its changed quality since it changed hands. It has, its better than ever.

Contrary to popular believe this place is fantastic in every way. From the clean restaurant, to the superb staff, and the first class food, served on lovely hot plates. People are scoring this place low and they my have their reasons, bur we found it to be amazing....

The food was dreadful, overpriced and tasteless; it made me ill. Used to be good - but seems to have changed hands - and its name. I am never eating there again; I don't recommend this place, at all. Would give it zero stars if I could.

Just had a take away for 3 - eaten in and had take away from here before but not last 6 months. It was terrible- spring rolls not cooked through, udons both chicken and pork so tasteless we left them Very disappointing

Ate here tonight after finding them on google .Been a Celiac is so hard to find a decent chinese that cater for my needs .Have to say the staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was beautiful .Was highly delighted with the service alround and will defo be a returning customer .

I was a little worried going after seeing they had changed hands since I'd last visited and their menu doesn't look as good however the food was as good as ever and most things are still there just the menu isn't as clear. I would still recommend it.

Service is rushed , rude and the food is nowhere near as good it used to be . , the tip was short but a few pence and the staff moaned about it .

Takeaway order - Your food is no longer up to scratch. My order tasted reheated and was way over priced. I ate it because if paid for it and I was hungry, but it honestly wasn’t the best. You've increased your prices so pleaseee improve your standard of food for the customer you have left. I won’t be ordering again.

I adore the fact they have a gluten free menu as it means I can eat Chinese food again. There is also loads of choice on the gf menu. Cocktails are also great.

It's OK. Nothing special, typical English Chinese. The starters were not cooked from scratch, they were heated up and felt hard. I do not expect this from a quality restaurant. Service was poor, had to remind them for things and there was no top up of water.

This has been my favourite Chinese restaurant for many years. However tonight we were served terrible food. The salt and pepper ribs were incredibly hard. Most worrying however was the chicken in lemon sauce which had the texture of uncooked chicken. Usually this dish is tender and delicious. The vermicelli noodles were also very rubbery. I think the change of chef is very noticeable in the worst way. The response from the head waiter was very disappointing. We were regulars here and he made very little effort to recognise the poor quality of food that we were served this evening. One of our dishes was not charged for, despite us both having chicken in lemon sauce. More disappointingly, the apology was almost non existent. It was a very disappointing birthday experience. This place is not recommended.

Reasonably big open space, brightly lit and reasonably busy. Service is ok, bit on the slow side but friendly enough. The food is the same Chinese food you see and taste on a menu from the 80s. Greasy starters, high coloured and gloopy mains. If that’s your thing, then great. If not, be prepared for average retro

This was our favourite Chinese in Leeds and we got a takeaway tonight and am afraid to say it will be our last meal here! The crispy duck was cold, the satay beef was bright yellow and as strong as a curry from Bradford! Lastly the beef with ginger and spring onions not only lacked spring onions but had no taste. For those regular visitors will know that G-Wu were famous for large pieces of meat in their dishes. This has been reduced to strips of meet made to look like you have as much meat as before when in fact it has been reduced by 50%! Also at the prices charged I am not prepared to be ripped off again! It’s a shame how quickly new management can ruin a good business.

Food Normally great here but this time it was mediocre

Service is very important not just good food, i found the staff were attentive but food was a little bit slow when they are busy, but then again I expect to wait more than 1/2 to get food when the place is busy, what count is the staff did appreciate me there and apologetic for delays in kitchen. Food is decent and plentiful portions which didnt leave me hungry or feeling thirsty.

Had to come here twice within a week. A really family friendly restaurant with a wide selection of dishes which include a full vegan / gluten free menu! There’s something for even the pickiest of eaters. Staff are really friendly and attentive.

Dined and ordered takeaways for years and it was always excellent. The recent takeaway was poor, everything was stale; it’s really gone downhill, I wouldn’t bother again.

The food here never disappoints. My husband and I moved to Canada 3 years ago and we still think about this food!

Review April 2023 Mixed experiences. I wouldn’t bother with takeaway. They tell you a time to collect and you’ll be sat waiting an additional 20 minutes (this has happened more than once). Partner said the last time he ordered he was disappointed with it. Other times it’s been nice. — Review October 2021 We tried G Wu once for takeaway and it was okay, but coming for a meal in was a totally different experience. The food was delicious. Loved the salt and pepper squid, satay skewers, g wu chow mein, crispy beef and salt and pepper chips. Big portions. Can’t wait to go back.

We were a little nervous of going the this restaurant for Mothers Day after reading some of the reviews on here. However, I have to say we had a really lovely experience! The food was plentiful & absolutely delicious and we had no issue with the service. Staff were polite, knowledgeable & prompt with both food & drink. Our only small suggestion would be that they warm the plates before giving them out & that maybe some heaters on the table to keep food warm would have been the icing on the cake! Don’t be put off by the negative reviews - try it for yourself! Hopefully, you will have as good a time as we did!

We were seated quickly and the staff were polite. The food was generally nice but nothing special and there was hardly any, if any at all, meat inside the crispy beef. The service was hit and miss. When we arrived we were approached to order many times, even after asking for a few minutes, several times. When the food arrived, nobody came to ask if everything was okay. When we had finished, the waiter took our food away and packaged it up for us, but nobody came with the bill, we were just ignored. I think G-Wu has gone downhill since we last visited, and we will not be in a big hurry to return.

Ok, so it's Saturday night and busy... But after waiting 40 minutes for starters and then 50 more for mains what came out was, well, average to say the least. Little flavour in the soup, no beef to be seen in the crispy fried beef, was more scraps and sauce, but the sweet and sour was ok. Perhaps they were just having a bad night but you know when one of your guests says one dish is amazing over and over it's because it's surrounded by things that just aren't and they are trying to overcompensate. Can't say I'll be returning for them to redeem themselves. Unfortunate.

Disappointing takeaway service. What is point of booking people in for collections then expecting people to wait for an hour after the agreed time. Clearly need a system review and I haven't had the chance to review the food. Lots of unhappy people tonight.

Got takeaway frome here yesterday I ordered spring rolls very mushy inside there where diffently been frozen had chicken prawns in a gooey sauce it was not edible I asked for my money back was not interested worst Chinese food ever the place needs closing down there need reporting to health and safety avoid at all costs

Genuinely one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been to in recent years, the prawn toast there is the best I've ever had, and the char siu I had as a main was great too. Portion sizes were really generous too. 10/10 will be going again

Takeaway tonight. Terrible. Been going for years and the worst I have ever had. Ribs burnt Egg fried rice, no egg in it Chicken in ok, really gluteny Beef and peppers , massive uncooked peppers Spring rolls , full of blobs of cooking fat. All went in the bin half eaten. Seems cost cutting gone too far or had the good chef gone on holiday. Not a happy bunny especially when the price is top notch. Seriously let yourselves down.

Really good food but I think they need to get better at their time management. Waited 35 mins in the restaurant after the time I was told. Other customers were getting frustrated also by the slow service. Get this right and it would be 5 stars without a doubt.

We ordered prawn crackers, ribs, beef curry, shredded chicken with garlic and chilli, Singapore fried rice and noodles with onions and bean sprouts. Ordered for a certain time for collection but there was a 30 min delay (would have been nice to know.. they took my number at order point) but other than that we thoroughly enjoyed the takeaway meal. Beautifully done, tasty, not at all greasy but just delicious. Enough food for tomorrow night as well as tonight. Very generous portions. Just got the message as I’m typing this to say our meal was going to take longer 🤪 but absolutely would order from here again. Not the cheapest but who cares when the food is so good. Would recommend if needing to order food for a dinner party/friends.

Up until tonight this was my favourite restaurant in Leeds. No more. Be aware that under the new ownership things have changed. A party of 5 for my 64 birthday and my mothers 95 Birthday delayed from January due to illness. I had raved about how good this place is and was over the moon to take here there and my brother. The starters came out after along wait and were very nice , then the trouble kicked in, first came a plate of noodles (which we had ordered) but nothing else for about 15 minutes, the warm plates were now cold, my brothers dish of chicken stir fry and mushrooms came out which looked like it wasn't cooked, he sent it back because it was cold it came back still cold, still we had no rice my sister in laws meal came out burnt mums came out okay then mine which was cold and flavour less. then rice. more noodles appeared that we had not ordered. after 15 minutes my wife's food appeared and some tomato ketchup???. at this point we asked for the manager, they did not come but sent a waiter who could not apologise enough, we did not give him a hard time as we felt sorry for him and it was not his fault. eventually some one came and we told them we would pay for the drinks and the starters they offered us a 20% reduction which we politely told them what they could do with it. We paid for the starters and drinks and were leaving with about 3 other tables who had all received the same service. i am so sorry that our favourite restaurant has stooped to this. And a final note on another table a customer whom had received similar treatment to us and like us were offered a free drink was actually charged for it and had to go back and have his bill amended again.

Food is spot on, Take away wait times are a bit frustrating, But we’ll worth the wait

I was really dissapointed after driving to the restaurant to place my order and being told It would involve a 75 minute wait. So I left and came back 75 minutes later only to be left waiting a further 50 minutes.... That's right a further 50 minutes. I suppose that's new management for you, punctuality isn't their forte.

Great night out tonight, food first rate and so was the service, will be back again very soon 👍

Though from Swansea I am a regular at G Wu. An excellent meal whether take away or eat in. Top service never had any problems at all.

Went here last night with some friends and was very disappointed. We used to go there quite a bit and although I'm not normally a huge Chinese food fan, I loved this place. However, the decline is shocking! The restaurant looks shabby and a bit run down and is freezing! (also, if you go to the toilet, bring a down jacket to wear if you want to avoid hypothermia!). Anyway, back to the food. The first lady who served us came to take our drinks order and half way through, started having an angry argument in another language with one of the waiters! She walked away still shouting but then came back with no apology and had forgotten the order - great service! When our food came, it was served on cold dishes and so didn't stay warm more than about 5 minutes. For my main, I ordered a trio of seafood which should have contained king prawns, squid and scallops. I dug around in it and realised, there wasn't a single scallop! I questioned the argumentative waitress about it and she said that she'd told the waiter yo tell me yhat they had no scallops! To be fair, she did reduce the price a little but I love scallops so was disappointed. Also, the squid tasted so strong that I thought it might not be very fresh so I left that and ate the prawns and veg. On the whole we had a nice get together but the service and food were lacking and the prices have been hiked up significantly so I don't think I would go back.

Unfortunately after my most recent experience I feel I need to leave a review given the sheer drop off in standards overall. I've been coming to this Chinese for takeaway for several years now, and it always used to be the best. Best for food, best for service, best for wait times for collection, best for general atmosphere. All that seems to have fallen off a cliff recently though. For starters, given the current climate I appreciate that every business has to respond to rise in costs, supply chain issues, etc. But the prices here are the highest I've seen for a Chinese anywhere, and that includes London where I spend a lot of time. On top of this, the service issues meant I had to wait for nearly 50 minutes from walking in to collect food, having placed the order 2.5 hours before, which is absolutely shocking. I was told the food was on its way down when I walked in and paid, and I had to ask four separate times where the food was. There were people who had walked in, ordered, waited, and collected their food before ours came out. This was on more than one occasion. Not the level of service I expect from what was once a well-respected establishment, and it has well and truly put the brakes on me coming back. Having spoken with friends and colleagues who also used to get food from here, they all share the same views and sentiments. It's a real shame to see this happen.

Service was extremely slow. Fifteen minutes to get our first drink. Then another twenty minutes to wait for the starters. Food was nice but average Chinese food nothing special. Having said this, the staff were nice once they decided to serve us. Will think twice before returning. Sorry….

Definitely get off your sofa for this Chinese! Yummy, fast service, polite service and well-priced, I would recommend to anyone! After managing to fit us (we called 20 mins before arriving to book a table and they were kindly accommodating), we ordered lots of food, and it all arrived together and piping hot too! Waiters were pleasant and funny, and accommodating to our preference for chopsticks to use. The drinks were excellently made, and we felt full and satisfied at the end of our visit.

We as a family have been going to GWU for years. Last night 20/11 we visited with some guests and was really looking forward to it, singing its praises as we have always had a great meal. Well I dont know what has happened but it was awful. We were disappointed, embarrassed and appalled. Firstly the price increases are shocking. I get businesses have to make adjustments but their prices were an outrage. £17.50 upwards for noodles and veg. The staff were as miserable as sin but when our meal came I couldn’t believe it we essentially got three plates of the same thing with different stuff added so chicken to one dish and mushrooms to another and very little of it. There were three of us and our bill came to £76.50 £60 of which essentially paid for three plates of noodles with veg that we couldn’t eat they were so stodgy and congealed from too much MSG.only two of us had a soft drink and we had a starter to share. No one came near us to see if we were happy with our food, we couldn’t get anyones attention so when the waiter came to clear our table I explained that we hadn't been happy with our meals - he never looked at us or even uttered a word. We were so appalled we just paid and left. If you want a decent family meal for four with drinks and starters you’re looking at least £200 upwards and I really wouldn’t bother.

Have been eating at G-Wu restaurant & take out for years, food always really good but wow have the prices gone up. Really shocked to see how much they have increased. This will definitely reduce the numbers of visits we make in the future.

Booked a surprise 18th birthday meal. The food was great, however the service was terrible. The table was booked for 13 people and a deposit of £130 was paid. On arrival the table we were given was set for 11 people. Obviously, the table was...

If you do go you will know. If you don't you won't be missing out. Food is good, still wouldn't drive across town to engage. No better than the competition. Decore is very good but that is not on the menu
