I had a bad food experience at this place. My food was nasty and they need to examine how this happened. Also what kind of hungry customer would complain if it was ok? It was bad enough that I was given food that was not fresh, worse that they made no apology.

Tried a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown last year and wasn’t very impressed so thought we would try one outside this time. The staff were very friendly and not at all pushy to get your order done. When our food came out it did look very nice and after a quick taste test we weren’t disappointed.Cant understand why this place wasn’t busier than it was because iit was the best food we’ve tasted for a long time. The chilli beef was probably the best I’ve ever had.We Will definitely use again next time we go to see a show in theatre land.

We had lunch here and we had a dish I had not come across before and cannot remember the name of. It is a bit like hot pot where there is a rectangular metal container in the middle of the table with heaters underneath. Unlike hotpot all the food is cooked when it arrives. You can order all sorts to go in it and we had beef, tofu, mushrooms, veggie and rice noodles. It was very very nice but has a big kick - there must be chilli seeds or something hidden in the juice. Loved it

Was there this week with my wife and attended to by a motley of staff , probably family members. Service was poor and patronizing . The only thing worse was the food. Ordered sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice. I can say this is probably worst Chinese meal I have tasted anywhere. The place is also not clean

If you want high class Chinese food...this is not the place for you. It's cheap, the restaurant is pretty basic, but it's popular. The dim sum was average, the mixed seafood soup noodles OK, but the Malaysian noodles were excellent. We ate very well for under £40, including a few beers - not bad at all for central London.

A genuinely positive experience, having went shortly after the visit to the British Museum with my girlfriend today. We've ordered soup noodles, spring rolls, Fried Ho Fun noodles (Malaysian style) and some tomato/egg soup. The food was fresh, delicious and the portion size of every meal was really adequate without needing to break the wallet. There was a steady stream of customers for take away and to eat in, yet plenty of space to sit without experiencing any unnecessary waiting.

Expensive, pre cooked reheated chinese. We went for the grilled fish at £38 which is a small grilled fish in a shallow bowl with lotus root and spam. Hands down the worst dish Ive eaten. We also had pork ribs which had been boiled to death, dressed in salt and dried chillie. We had a small bowl of rice with it and a green tea. Just under £70 with service by a young chinese chap in tracksuit bottoms and trainers. Id rather have terrible Cantonese food than this attempt at authentic 'chinese'. Avoid. No really... Just dont..

Ordered food, starter of the usual crispy seaweed (actually deep fried cabbage). It was ice cold. Asked if it could be warm as it is in every other of the many restaurants we've had it in was told rudely no it was a cold dish. Ordered main course and went to bathrooms.... Omg .. filthy .. everything was sticky on way to toilets.. handrails down the stairs nasty and greasy to touch, toilet bins overflowing with paper, dirty toilets, dirty floors, lock hanging off. Didn't look like anyone has ever cleaned it. If that's how they look after the bathrooms I dread to see the state of the kitchens. Our main courses arrived .. looked distinctly unappetising. We did not feel confident that the hygiene was adequate so we made our apologies and left without eating anything. We have never done this before but I really felt sick to my stomach after seeing such poorly maintained facilities.

The restaurant's customers were almost all made up of Chinese customers which is always a good sign in a Chinese restaurant. . ***WARNING*** Me and a friend had our evening meal 21/12/2016 and was absolutely shocked at poor quality of food and taste. I have previously been here for the buffet which has now stopped for some apparent unknown reason. Staff are extremely rude and do not pay attention to what you are ordering when food arrives and is wrong staff blame you the customer for not ordering the correct food. The food that is being served at Joy's is not authentic Chinese food nor would I allow my dog to eat this. I would rather eat from a public bin rather than what is being served at Joy's. My experience was appalling to say the least. If you want authentic Chinese food please go to China Town just behind Leicester Square, Central London amazing food.

Wish I was exaggerating but... we had the buffet today, from outside it was looking ok for the price. But like life.. nothing is as it seems.....The squids rings weren't fried properly and were cold... but if it was just this it would be ok, the prawns were a distaste and TOXIC, it tasted like it was certainly sitting and being re-heated for days. I put it aside and didn't finish the prawns as I didn't want to get a food poison from it. Had a second plate and had some beef, it was a very strange meat and very hard to chew since it was full of fat. Until there, bad experience, but worse was the treatment from staff. When I arrived to pay for the bill he wanted to charge me EXTRA 5 pounds for leaving 4 prawns in the plate. I told him that the prawns were out of date and that I was not happy to pay for leaving it. He said I had to pay anyway. And he started having a very bad and stressed temper. I insisted to pay for the buffet but not extra 5 pounds for leaving a food that was out of date. He said "You are terrible people, think about the children starving in Africa". I was absolutely shocked with the unprofessional treatment but not surprised because you can understand the quality of the restaurant by its food quality. I said again I wouldn't pay and he can't force me. He said "I don't want to see you here again" - (as if I would ever go back? lol)..... in the end I paid for the terrible buffet... 20 pounds in the bin and hoping to not get sick in the next days.... Avoid going or smelling from outside.

I called in joys for the buffet all you can eat as I could not decide what I wanted to eat. To start I had chicken wings and satay chicken. The wings were OK but the satay was cold. For main I had chicken curry which had less meat than I expected as a lot of the lumps were actually chicken so tried to pick out the best bits. I also tried another chicken dish which I had to leave as the chicken was tough and cold (worried that I may be charged for leaving as signs all over the place).Just as I left it saw over of the staff take more food out wearing rubber gloves that were left on the side with dirty dishes etcThe food was not terrible and I was not ill so gave it a poor rating. I doubt I will go back.

An unassuming, blandly decorated restaurant on busy, otherwise pricey New Oxford Street. Handily located not too far from the British Museum. The selection at the all-you-can-eat buffet is less than at other places (tho' the menu boasts "over 40 dishes, that could be on a rotation basis), but on our visit, the food was fresh and appealing. A couple of the dishes were particularly tasty. A Brit bargain at only£8.90 per person. Eat up because you will face an additional charge if, as my mom used to say, "Your eyes are bigger than your belly", and you leave too much on your plate. The place is clean (as were the toilets/washrooms). The day I was there, there was a steady stream of customers coming in for the take away boxes (fill the box and pay according to the box size, starting at only £5.00). There were also enough other eat-in customers to prevent the restaurant from feeling cavernous. Glad we took a chance.

Actually not as bad as other reviewers found it. I too was drawn in by the wonderful display of the buffet and the £8.90 price that goes with it. I actually liked the place. I loved the little Chinese chairs that are more comfortable than you'd imagine. Simple décor and clean place. Loved the prawn crackers! The buffet was actually quite good. There was fried crab sticks that were good. There was also small spring rolls and samosas (I always thought these were Indian rather than chinese). There was also two types of noodles which I loved so much I had seconds. The rice with vegetavles was good too. There was sweet and sour chicken, beef in black bean sauce, beef in oyster sauce, chicken satay, prawns, and broccoli. There must have been another dish or two but can't remember now. Only soft drinks and water are served. The qas soyp but i didnt try it. Dessert was simple but quite welcomed.

I was drawn in here by the brightly lit display, the £8.90 buffet price tag and the 4/5 food hygiene rating. However, the food and service were most disappointing. The quality of the buffet food was very poor and at best could be described at luke warm. The quality of the ingredients was poor too and the chicken balls were basically poor quality chicken nuggets! The buffet selection was ok although for £8.90 could have done much better elsewhere. I asked for a glass of tap water, went for my buffet only to return to an open and poured glass of mineral water at £1.80ish. Despite it being a buffet they still added a 10% service charge to the bill! Top tip - look elsewhere!

Okay the choice is a bit limited, but the food that is available is very tasty and piping hot. Perhaps it could do with a bit more meat in the sauces but for £7.90 all you can eat it still represents tremendous value for money.Down side - they add a 10% service charge which is a bit cheeky considering it is a self serve buffet, but that is discretionary and can be taken off if requested. No alcohol available, and the soft drinks all appeared to be £1.50.

Jai or Joy All you can eat chinese buffet, 40 New Oxford Street, Bloomsbury WC1Well the sign outside say Joy, but the bill says Jai, either way it’s a £6.90 all you can eat buffet. Service is good, perhaps a little pushy when the waiter says move it along if you linger too long at the hot buffet, but you probably only want to eat and leave anyway. The restaurant is spotless and staff are constantly cleaning and bring fresh dishes to the servery. Selection includes a rather watery looking vegetable soup, salads, fried rice, noodles, prawn toast, salt and pepper beef, sweet and sour chicken balls, BBQ Ribs, potatoes, spring rolls, chicken wings etc. and sauces. Some of the dishes were not overly hot, but the food was all tasty. There was some apple and pineapple pieces for deserts. We prefer another all you can eat buffet along Shaftesbury Avenue, but this place is ok for a cheap quick meal. Cash only, plus 10% service charge.

The place itself is nice, but the buffet is rather small with limited choice and its access is not easy when someone else is already there. The food was awfully salty and oily. No fish, no tofu, no veggies (we are vegetarian). When we received the bill, the total came to 30 £ for 2 adults and 2 kids (14 and 9)...we were told a 10% service charge is applied on all bills. No credit card, only cash. The ATM across the street declined our 3 foreign cards, but we had 100 euros, so the restaurant accepted them as 75 £, which was OK. I not been here in many years but it still remains one of the better Chinese restaurants around. However, while there is no issue with quality if the food (although slightly bland) or service there was a lack of atmosphere ( on the evening). But it did strike me as a little expensive at £100 ( inc 3 x glasses of wine) for what I had. Of the three restaurants visited over my weekend in London this one left me feeling a little under whelmed : just lacked a ‘wow’ factor- which I think, even at this day / age you still need yo justify £100 for a (Chinese) meal
