Great place Especially sunny day looks amazing

Lovely location with great views if you're lucky enough to get a window table. Service was slow despite it being quiet and the food was average. The portions were also very small. My wife had the scampi which I had a taste of, in my opinion this was frozen and not fresh.

As Portuguese, in Portugal we don’t measure whiskey… we serve whiskey 🥃. Everything else was perfect. Congrats ✌️

Trio Oysters £8.60, very fresh. Long wait on weekends 10 minutes to be served.

My partner had been there before on more than one occasion and rated them highly. We went together on a day where my food calorie needs were lower than usual. They kindly cooked the fish I ordered without oil at my bequest and also did the same with the veg. Both the fish and the veg were cooked perfectly and they were very accommodating. Hence the food, service, atmosphere and flexible approach made them somewhere I would recommend and visit again when in Portobello, or locally in Edinburgh.

The food wasn’t bad and the atmosphere was warm and picturesque, with a great view of the Porto Bello shore. However what made the experience great was Niki the bartender that served us. With is great welcoming personality and impeccable service, he made Joppa Rocks a fun experience.

We came here for an impromptu dinner and it definitely did not disappoint. Amazing dishes and Niki offered us fantastic service all around! Definitely drop by if you're in the vicinity.

We came here to have a quick lunch and ended up having a fantastic 3 course dinner, inspired by the great menu! Niki and Hadi both provided excellent service, were extremely professional and polite. We would highly recommend you visit. We will come again! Great place!

This is how seafood should be: not greasy, everything homemade, perfect even for small children as they can look at aquariums and the sea. Rico, Niki and Hadi were particularly nice.

Niki and Rose made our lunch at Joppa Rocks a delight, well done them. I particularly want to single out Niki for praise.There was a very difficult customer who moaned about everything, especially the temperature. She didn’t take any responsibility for her situation . . . she could have moved to the top of her table and bask in the Spring sun. But no! Niki was calm and considerate and when a table upstairs became available he moved her party upstairs (which I’m sure is what she was after all the time). Well done Niki, it made my experience all the better as I didn’t need to hear her grumble. It did affect the atmosphere - but that wasn’t on the staff they did all to alleviate the actions of a customer. Rose served us and she was confident, attentive and effective.

Just in for a light bite of lunch. Very fine food and professional service. Possibly a little understaffed due to waiting times, but worth the wait.

It seems a bit mad for a cafe that is at the end of a huge tract of beautiful coastline that you cannot go inside with your dog. Outside there are only benches with no tables, so can't sit & relax. You can't order inside but have to go to the takeaway hatch to be served by the same person whom you spoke to inside! We also couldn't order cake as it's not available for takeaway! I'm sure they could easily improve it but at the moment (Feb.2025) it's a no-go for us again 😔

I was in that restaurant on Saturday. My experience at this restaurant was really great. The food was delicious and the presentation was fantastic. The people in the kitchen clearly enjoy their work, and they pay great attention to every dish. The ingredients are fresh, and the food is very creative. The atmosphere is both warm and professional, and the staff is very friendly. All the chefs are skilled, and they are very kind.

What a fabulous place! Rico was with us for the evening and made sure we never had an empty glass. The food was exceptional and the dessert was out of this world. Any visitors should definitely ask about the fish tank, we loved hearing about their personalities and our favourite fish, Ruby!

We didn't eat here because we only wanted soup or something lighter, but we couldn't find anything on the menu that met our needs. I am also lactose intolerant, and they did not have any non dairy alternatives. The decor was very nice and the views out to see were spectacular. We went on to South Queensferry, where most of our party enjoyed Cullen Skink (a creamy fish soup). We were visitors to the area. It is unlikely that we will visit the area again.

What a delight! We went for a stroll and came across this place and we were greeted with excellent service by Rico. I've been to this restaurant a few times now, and each visit has been an absolute delight! The food is consistently amazing-full of flavor and perfectly prepared. The staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive, but I must give a special shoutout to Nikki, who truly goes above and beyond to make every visit memorable. Nikki is warm, professional, and has such a positive energy that makes the experience even better. Rico is also fantastic—so friendly and helpful! First and foremost, I want to highlight the impeccable and exceptionally warm service provided by Rico. Although there were only two of us, he thoughtfully recommended a larger table, which turned out to be the perfect choice since we ended up ordering quite a lot. His attentive inquiries and considerate service made our dining experience truly enjoyable. The restaurant is in a great location, with convenient parking and beautiful interior decor. We visited on a winter evening, but I can only imagine how stunning the views would be during the summer. As for the food, we were thoroughly impressed. The seafood was outstanding—fresh and incredibly flavorful. Having dined at many seafood-focused restaurants, I’ve often found portions elsewhere to be quite small. However, this restaurant serves generous portions, so much so that the two of us over-ordered and couldn’t finish everything! Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. Its convenient location, excellent service, and delicious food make it well worth a visit.

Joppa Rocks is our favourite place for any sort of get-together. It's so friendly and we're always looked after very well. The food is wonderful, always fresh and beautifully cooked and presented... and the cocktails aren't bad either! Today our waiter was Rico and he was as brilliant as always.

The best fish restaurant in Edinburgh

I usually come here for coffee and cake and I must say the quality of the service and the welcome is always outstanding, especially when Niki and Rico is on shift. I highly recommend this place.

I had the oysters as a starter then the stunning langoustines in a superb warm sauce. Looked after very well by Niki who has some stunning wines by the glass. The white Albariño is a gem. With a view overlooking the amazing bay at Portobello, back again within a week to sample more delights!!

My friend and I had such a great time at this place back in August. Big thanks to Beth for her awesome service! She was super attentive, making sure we had everything we needed, while also giving us plenty of space to relax and enjoy our time together. The food was amazing and the view was absolutely stunning. Plus, the prices were really reasonable, which was a nice bonus. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Excellent food and first class service with a special shout to Niki.

A very nice atmosphere, beautiful interior and beautiful views. Unfortunately we did not have the best experience with food - maybe it was a bad day. We had to wait for 45 minutes for muscles and fish and chips; muscles had a significant number of unopened ones, chips were not well cooked (not crispy at all) and the peas were just boiled with no seasoning. The tartar sauce was good though and the waiter was very friendly.

We were served by Dilyah and Rico and had a fantastic time. They were so friendly and attentive with my 2 toddlers, making dining out an stress-free experience. Food is amazing, love the fish and chips!

An excellent meal! The the chowder and the chocolate mousse were the highlights. Fantastic service, too.

Tuna steak cooked to perfection. Seafood chowder was incredibly tasty and served with well fired bread. Desserts were on point also. Lovely dinner with a beautiful view. Well done, keep up the good work.

What a great find! Staff are so friendly and accommodating. The views are magnificent which makes it very special. We have eaten various things off the lunch menu and all been excellent. The seafood chowder is top class. Can’t comment on food for breakfast or dinner but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t just as good. Whether it’s just a coffee or something more, it’s a lovely place with great views and a warm welcome.

Today, we went with a pensioners lunch club and had a lovely meal. Most of the pensioners were offered children's portions which they gladly accepted. Great service, view, food. Good value too And a special thanks to Rico and Niki for looking after us all so well. They couldn't do enough and made the lunch extra special. Thank you, we will definitely be back again

Nothing to complain about this restaurant. Well located interior and exterior setting are worth the trip. The fish is excellent. Generous and excellent cuisine. Rico and Niki keep this establishment alive and take great care of their customers.

Niki was the Tom Cruise of the cocktail bar and introduced my wife and friend to a Margarita with a touch of Tobasco which was a hit, it was so good that more orders were put in 🤣. My daughter was on Aperol with Spritz as surprised as a cocktail girl. Angus on the beer and me on the low alcohol Gin, everyone on the day were extremely attentive. Food looked good but we were in for the drink and not forgetting the nuts. To be honest came in for only one drink

We find this restaurant cool and cozy as it has a sea view. We just had a cup of tea but service was good and friendly staff. I recommend this restaurant if you are having a nice walk at portobello beach.

An amazing place with a beautiful atmosphere on the sea coast. Very good food. We tried "fish and chips", lamb chops with fries and leaf salad, and shrimp skewers with couscous. Local ice cream for dessert and local beer for food. Everything was excellent. I would definitely return to this restaurant. The price was higher, but it was worth it.

First time being here after a lovely walk along the promenade with my partner. I'm absolutely delighted I came here. It is the best fish and chips I've had in a very long time - fresh and crisp fish at that!! The background music was a great playlist from the 60's and 70's. The staff are warm and friendly - nothing is ever too much for them - I'll be back 😀

Today we did something completely out of the norm and by pure chance. Our originally planned Lunch restaurant had its lift out of order so for some reason Joppa rocks popped into my head and I'm so glad it did. It's a little restaurant at the musselburgh end of portobello beach, it was very wet and windy today which in my opinion enhanced the atmosphere. We were welcomed by Rico who sat us by the window allowing us to watch the choppy waves come in, very therapeutic. Being a wheelchair user I was worried about access but there's plenty room round the tables downstairs. There's even a disabled loo. Both mum and I opted for Haddock, mum requested breaded which was no problem, as I didn't like peas Rico offered broccoli as substitute and oh my word absolutely delicious!! Melt in your mouth haddock, hand cut and fried chips and the most tastiest tarter sauce ever. I'm not much of a fish fan but Joppa Rocks is my new favourite stop for fish and chips. I also opted for chocolate cake and wow!! It was like a cheesecake style filling with layers of cake. I'd definitely pop in for coffee and cake on a stroll! Rico was lovely, the atmosphere was superb as was the music and scenery. I don't think many people realise that restaurant is there tbh which is a shame because it's well worth a wee trip. What's more the buses do stop right outside too

I have been really looking forward to coming here, place looks lovely, great views over Portobello beach,but the food has really been disappointing - we have ordered oysters, and they were clearly not fresh, inedible. I ordered mussels, and again they were not great quality. After dinner we just wanted to leave, so skipper the dessert and gone somewhere else. Wouldn't recommend unless you just coming for views.

Beautiful restaurant down to the last detail. The views of the sea were wonderful even on a grey rainy day. Food was delicious. Rico and Dilyar were front of house and were warm and welcoming. The music playlist was top notch, and made for a romantic lunch.

We organised a lunch for 30 people on the first floor. Some guests had allergies. The food was really nice, the waiters were very accommodating and everyone had a good time. They dealt with the allergies well and the location is beautiful. We recommend it.
