Jolly Farmers in Croydon

No food served on the day of my visit. Apparently, people do not eat on Mondays.

Good friendly service and very nice Indian meal

Only get food which is excellent indian can't vouch for it as a pub but it's always full

Arrived 530pm managed to get a table with a couple of mates. 2 drinks in at 630 lady comes and plonks a "reserved 715" sign on our table then walks off. We looked at each other. Couldnt believe the rudeness. Goodbye. We know when we are not wanted.

Sat down for food waited ages as soon as we started to eat a guy demanded I paid for the bill I told him I would when I’d finished eating he then came back during the meal 2 more times shoving a card machine in my face! The food was cold when it was brought out and when we addressed this and asked for management we waited a further half an hour then to be told there was no manager Excuses so far (been over a hour and still not had a resolution) Short staffed Waiter doesn’t understand English It’s our fault We should have said the food was cold (we did) Current situation we will not pay for cold food they won’t let us leave without full payment DO NOT EAT HERE!

Food was ok but service was very bad, half way through our food we have to pay the bill, we have to wait for someone to come for our order and have to wait for long time for food as well, not happy At all

Was so skeptical about Jolly Farmers, but eventually arranged a group dinner. Inside was mega loud due to live entertainment. Outside was freezing but such a lovely outdoor space and has heaters. Food was incredible, esp the mixed platters. Lamb chops incredible as are the wings and the prawns. Definitely would go back. Highly recommend for food or a drink.

Good atmosphere, fantastic outdoor space

We had a great night, excellent curry ,decent beer,what really made the night for us was the absolutely brilliant reggae band.

Cosy friendly pub with a relaxed atmosphere Staff are very caring. There is a huge open air space located to the rear which is amazing in summer time.

I think they’ve got it absolutely right. We were there on Friday night 18th Oct. So good to be served at the table for our drinks. Could always catch their attention. The curry was lovely too; and the band that was playing. Place was very busy, but not too packed. 👏👏👏

Just went for dinner with friends . . Awful service - the staff simply not interested. Sat down for our meal and ordered drinks - the waiter came over and we had to pay for drinks separately. We ordered starters and we were asked to pay first! Food was average. We def won’t be returning

Got kicked out twice, cos I got tipsy in the pub. Also been told off after being seen on the camera..doing what exactly? So go and enter the Big Brother aka Jolly Farmers. Just another pub at outskirts of London with hot shots bouncers. Also I'm Eastern European and I must say I had the 'unwelcome' feeling there. Nevermind. Who cares. This place is just there for food. There is no real interest in people coming in to mingle and have a some Friday night fun. It's an eatery with thank you and good buy, oh, we have a live music if you'd like to stay, but that's in case you do. Cameras everywhere, tip over a drink and bouncer is already informed looking around..so don't misbehave there. That's no pub, just a place that wants to make some money from Indian food, make locals happy for couple of hours and shut for the night. A gastro that's stays open a bit longer on the weekends.

Racist pub. They let the whole of my team in by when it came to me it was all of a sudden ‘too late’ & I had to leave. Disgusting treatment I hope they go out of business soon.

Decent pub, great beer garden but appalling service. Bar staff and waiters have zero manners and don’t know how to say please or thankyou. If they learnt manners the pub would be ok. Please don’t go here if you want good customer service. And the beer is massively overpriced for Purley with the other 2 pubs providing better prices and service.

The outside seating is fantastic. Loads of space, various booths with individual TV's and a big TV screen, and nicely decorated. They even come out and take drink/food orders (which was fantastic since we didn't want to go out in the rain!). Prices are average. I only had the peshwari naan as a snack which was lovely! And the rest of the food that came out smelt lovely! The staff were pleasant. Highly recommend!

Very bad customer service, had a missing dish but the waiter argued we looked at the wrong menu (which was at the bar) he was very argumentive and wouldn't give in over one small dish after spending a lot of money

Great bands, but when questioned about a beer that was paid for, you have to pay again.. Bullying nature..

Decent pub but the standard of service is so bad it’s fascinating. They’ll take your order for food etc, charge you, bring food and no cutlery or condiments The blonde waitress is nothing but grief for customers unfortunately, she is very bitter and unapologetic to her low standards. Drinking more than the punters I suspect Generally the staff will not make it easy for the customers as I’ve seen on many occasions.

A cold, refreshing Old Mout on a hot Monday afternoon was much needed after clearing an alleyway by the pub

Lovely little place. Staff is a bit over eager continously asking you if you want to order another drink even when you got half of one left! So that can be a bit annoying. Can't buy a half pint with a card cause there's a £5 minimum charge which was a bit disappointing.

Visited the Jolly Farmers and enjoyed some lovely Indian food. Recommended!!

One of the worst experiences I have had!! The chef actually came out and started an argument accusing us of not knowing our food, after we had explained to the waiter we were not happy with the lamp chops. He was rude and argumentative and insisted he was going to charge us for the lamb chops, even though we had agreed that we would pay for the chops, which we did not eat. Unfortunately, the attitude and behaviour of the chef was disgraceful and really let the establishment down.

Great ambience, good food, service can be slightly delayed during busy periods, but overall a good experience! Would visit again.

As my partner is Goan I know good Indian food. Heavy price for the lamb shank £17.50with no rice!! My friend had byriani which had only few pieces of lamb and was very small. Was ask many times if we wanted more drinks at table unsure if this was as we were women. Was too much. Won't be visiting again shame as when I lived in Purley was a regular

This pub is really nice with pleasant waiters and on top of that there was a band "Monsoon" playing Live rock standards from all generations. I even managed to lose a few calories while 'dancing' 😂😂🎸

A rock and roll atmosphere this last Saturday with the group Monsoon whose musical covers sound like the originals. A great evening I recommend this very British pub 🎸

Been to Jolly Farmers many times before for food and drink. Food always been good BUT, this time, portion sizes have halved! £13.95 for a Lamb biriyani with 5 pieces of meat! Absolutely shocking, chef said it’s always been this size but I know I’ve previously had more than this and been satisfied. Offered us a chicken buna for free but didn’t want it or eat it. Will only be back for drinks next time!

My partner and I live down the road and go occasionally, although the service and people who work there are so lovely, it's gone a bit down hill since our first visit. The beers taste like the line cleaning hasn't been done in ages. My last visit today the beer tasted horrible and made me feel so ill. During our last visit we also saw prepared sauces and foods for the weekend just sat outside the back with all the mops. Which honestly made me feel so ill, I've eaten there before and the food was lovely but after seeing this I'm not so sure I would.

I popped in after work for a quick drink as new to working in Purley. Quick and friendly service, good selection and nice surroundings. I have only given 4 stars as I fully intend to come back and try the food as it smells GLORIOUS so saving my 5th star for then! Highly recommend a visit

Good prices for drinks, but there is always a performer playing way 2 loud that u can't speak or hear unless ur in the corner. Most workers are cool but let down by the new rude bouncer who acts like every 1 is looking 2 start trouble

Great pub with lively music nights.

Bar staff really friendly, polite and sociable… restaurant staff another matter! Found them rude, argumentative and one young man who told us he was the manager very unprofessional, not only arguing with us but also with his colleague standing at our table, it was very uncomfortable. Due to his behaviour towards our party of diners I would never eat there again and wouldn’t recommend it.

The Jolly Farmers has always been an underrated pub but since the new owners took over it has had a new lease of life. Great service, a busy mix of young and old locals and apprently the food is excellent, although I haven’t eaten here yet. It is not a pub for a quiet drink as it is busy and lively. Great atmosphere though, highly recommended. I hope they get the success their efforts to improve the pub deserve.

Great food and fairly priced pints.

I celebrated my 50th birthday at The Jolly Farmers on Saturday 3rd Feb and I had the best time, they have a large area they rope off and I had about 30 people. The staff could not have been nicer and helpful, the atmosphere was great and the band, "The Banned" were fantastic. Definately recommend if you are celebrating a special occasion. No food review as didn't eat but it looked nice and people that did eat said it was really good.

Was rude to a friend over a condition he cannot control and my whole crowd was kicked out and no reasoning or understanding from the bouncers. Will never go again. Wouldn’t recommend.

I and few friends along with our families met for celebrating 50th Birthday of a friend. The pub is on the main junction of purely, still has parking for upto 6 or 7 cars. We were there on a Sunday afternoon. The staff were extremely polite and accommodatin. We were nearly 32 people including children, so they gave us a section of the pub to rearrange the seating. I must admit we are very loud group :) . Considering that and multiple orders from children seated on a separate tables along with orders from the adults, the staff did a brilliant job in keeping all of us happy. The food they serve is Indian and I'm not exaggerating when I say hands down it beats some of the top end Indian restaurants easily and at a reasonable price. The Samosas, chilli paneer were perfect, so were the sheek kebab, tulsi chicken etc. were awesome and mouth-watering starter platters. Once again the main course of dal makkani, Lamb shank, chicken curry, mutter paneer chicken and lamb briyani along with rotis, garlic naan breads were excellent. Once again far better than many Indian restaurants that I have been to before. Add to that at a decent price, you can't go wrong if you want to have few beers with some Indian curry in Purley. Do try it, you won't be disappointed. We ate loads and drank lot of beers that's why per person spending given below may not be relevant.

Lovely funny waiting service if your lucky enough to get a table. Also show a bit of sport. And they generally have great live bands at the weekend

I've always enjoyed my visit to The Jolly Farmers Purley not just to glasses of tap water and going to the Men's Toilet and I would really enjoy the food they serve to their loyal customers including myself too!

Fabulous pub, with great food, live music and heated outdoor seating. Great pub garden in the summer and winter (we sat out in December comfortably) nice crowd too. Service was amazing, table service for drinks and staff were genuinely warm and friendly. Great jobs guys keep it up! This is how all pubs should be.

Never had such an interesting experience in a pub come Indian restaurant. 1st, find table, then sit & order via waiter, drinks or food we were told. Followed was competition between w's as who would take an order. 2nd., three courses came together! Observed strict managerial compliance over getting food served fast by waiters. Good bits, 1st., thoroughly enjoyed the food (except miniscule popadoms, & tasteless). 2nd, polite staff, but slightly overbearing, e.g, any more to drink Sir, but, always willing to answer queries. Mgr who seemed to be i/c of bar appeared extremely professional & competent at handling a hyper busy bar. 3rd., great atmosphere, really buzzing, lots of activity. 4th, very reasonable prices, e.g., 250ml Malbec £6.00.4th., excellent quality real ales. Definitely return to once more savour the experience now we know what to expect.

Food here is amazing! Staff are all friendly and very attentive. Especially Sam (think his name is Sumant). Very enjoyable and the live music rocks.

Absolutely Lovely! Staff were very polite, fast and efficient. We had a work dinner and felt like we were fine dining. Waiter was on hand and constantly checking on us. Always coming back to this place. Met the owners and what a delight. Excellent place & very local to us. Great environment and a lovely vibe all around. Food was fantastic 😋 👌🏾. AVOID AVOID AVOID !!!! If you don’t want to die! Came here with friends for the first time, as wanted to catch up and have a nice curry. Worst experience ever! Firstly a couple of us had sever nut allergies and was given food that contained nuts, even though we asked the chef a few times to confirm there was no cross contamination or direct nuts in the meals we ordered. To our surprise the chef lied and told us there was no nuts at all in the kitchen even though we questioned the fact the menu stated some dishes contacted nuts, so avoided ordering those, 5 mins later the symptoms begins and we start to have a severe reaction. We complained to the managers and chef and as a result the chef laughed directly in our faces and then told us that the menu that was all around the bar was “out of date” and that the “kitchen doesn’t have any nuts in” complete lies as now one of the parties is in hospital and not doing well at all!!! I work in hospitality and carry an epi ped due to the severity of my allergy, and I know how serious this can be hence why we always ask ! This kitchen should be closed down and even more so the lack of support from the pub and management side who advised us we were band and not allowed to order a drink as we complained and nearly died.

What a difference, ive live here for 30 years and this was a no go zone, now the builder and fighters have been turfed out this place is lovely, really nice staff, and super indian food. This is great and I cant wait to come back.

Lovely place with great staff, been there for the first time on Friday, thought we'd be there for few drinks ended up staying there for the live band. Good food at an affordable price.

Calling all people from Caterham, Whyteleafe, Kenley, Purley, South Croydon..... Our Indian restaurants have depleted or are serving substandard meat. I've found the game changer.... Jolly farmers Indian experience is up there with top London restaurants charging 5 X the price. 8 cannot remember the last time I had a local curry as good as this. I'm blown away!!!!! If you haven't already, get yourself down here for a culinary experience second to none, and on our doorstep 10 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

No cider worth drinking but a good Harvey's Bitter. Outdoor seating at the front and around the car park.

A very nice boozer actually, has had quite the makeover since I was last in there. My only problem would be the minimum card charge. I wanted 1 pint of kronenbourg and didn't have any cash.

The live music is very bad and it seems to be becoming a more regular occurrence. The ‘beer garden’ has potential but they treat it more like a nightclub based in a car park than a local, high quality pub. Truly awful music kept at unreasonably high decibels

Wouldn’t recommend to anyone, came in to do some work and the lady came up and immediately asked me “can I help you? This isn’t a library you have to order something.” The bar wasn’t even busy, rude people, I was going to order but just felt spoken down on. Pretty sure she was racist.

Went for quick drink & after I ordered a grumpy old lady behind the bar snapped my head off for not saying “please” quick enough, after literally two seconds. She also got my drinks order wrong but I didn’t want to cause a scene and wanted to get out as quick as possible. Plenty of better pubs in Purley with better service & friendlier staff! And charging over six quid for two soft drinks is a rip-off. Never again.

Good evening out on a Sunday. There was a DJ - good music. Sat outside, atmosphere was nice. Indian food ordered was really nice but I'm only giving 4 stars as the amount of salt on chips was too much - definitely needs to be reduced!

The very nicest people to have run the pub in recent years, always polite and interested in keeping you happy. Beer is well kept and the girl who served me last time expertly poured a pint of Guinness. Excellent outdoor seating, a fair amount of which is heated. Parking out back is available. Disabled access is very good also. Can't comment on the food but have been told it's very good. Table service first class and you can pay when you order. I've been drinking here since I was a lad 40+ years ago and it's still my favourite place to drink in Purley :)

Questionable live music which plays in their car park too loudly so you cannot hear the people sat next to you. I think they believe they’re an outdoor festival rather than a family friendly pub, I certainly wouldn’t want to bring my child there.

Decent place for a pint, not the cheapest but is the only place to really catch the sun in purley. Updated outdoor area which shows live sport, only place to catch the sun and have a drink in purley

Food was amazing. This was my second time here and I enjoyed the food the first time. Nice choice of lager. Staff are polite and always greet you with a smile.
