A lovely little café along Stoke Newington Church Street, beautifully decorated and with an extensive menu of fresh snacks and meals. The service was friendly and efficient.

My favourite cafe on Church Street. Working my way through the lovely cakes, but my favourite is the peanut butter caramel cake. Yummy. Washed down with a mocha made with coconut milk.

A disappointing experience. The food was average but the coffee one of the worst I've had in London. The weakest area was the service. Everything took ages to arrive, to the point we wondered twice if they had forgotten (they had). Our food was delivered to the table next to us so it was all a bit awkward

so i visited joice today and first impressions were not the best, we walked into staff with moody faces, seems like they weren’t happy to see customers, We waited over 30 mins for food, there was 2 other people with me in the empty cafe so i’m not sure why the wait but even when i went to go check up on if it would take any longer i had no apology or update other than “sit down the food is coming” we then received our food shortly after, did not match description to what was on the menu and the taste was absolutely disgusting, I would definitely not recommend this unless you’re up for bad food and service, we had no cutlery at the table no offers for sauces or anything, they hadn’t even bothered cleaning the tables! this service needs to get sorted asap!

Pleasant little café with a decently big menu, including a nice selection of cakes. Has an endearing, slightly old-fashioned vibe and the food was genuinely good. Tea served in pots with eclectic crockery and, with a nice little twist, one of the teaspoons was in the shape of a miniature shovel. Service was a bit slow in spite of the place not being busy, but as it happens, we weren't in a hurry.

I genuinely really love their salads and pastries but I can’t say the same with one of the staff though unfortunately… the very loud shortest one, she did not stop talking for the whole of my meal, even when I came up to pay, she was still chatting with her colleagues, didn’t even tell me how much it was and just pointed the card machine at me, very very rude. She made such a big deal with the salad deal it was quite weird, because I come here and order the same thing all the time 3 salads and a veggie pastry and never once had a problem. I ended up paying £9+ for 2 small salads with a veggie pastry … which I am convinced this is what I normally pay for 3 salads and a pastry. Not sure if she did this on purpose because their salad price has never been clear unless you get 4 salads off a deal, which sometimes people don’t want. I don’t give a toss about a couple of quid, but it was her attitude which prompted me to write this review. I work in digital marketing for hospitality and believe me bad service and rude staff is one of the ones that will stop people from coming to your business. Not sure if I will return to be honest, since there are so many other cafes near that are much friendlier and accommodating like The Parlour, Ribbons and Taylor or Sapid coffee. I do hope you sort out your staff because your food is great and this is such a shame that you are now losing another customer that comes in a lot.

My sister got me a basque cheesecake from here yesterday, and I found a hair in it! Feeling absolutely disgusted.

Joy is a choice ❤️ Fantastic shop that can’t be missed! We came to the area for the flea market and found this amazing cafe. They do coffee/pastry/smoothies/milkshakes, and it is homemade! I love the caramel brownie so much, literally felt like melted in my mouth. Would definitely visit again, highly recommend!

I came here for lunch and there was one staff member on. Between serving the floor, servings salads and making coffees it took ages to order and obviously customer service suffered a bit with the short staffing. There’s only so much one person can do so it wasn’t her fault at all! The salads are really good value! One recommendation would be to have salt + pepper on tables and even some condiments on the side- balsamic vinegar, olive oil etc as I felt some salads needed a little something extra (that’s my taste though). It is cozy and cute, the pastries looked delicious. I really would recommend coming for a healthier option for lunch!

Coffee is really nice, i really enjoyed the peanut butter cake (compliments to the chef). Staff is very friendly, really nice people, making the cafe a warm and cosy environement. Will be back soon and would definitely reccomend to others!

Overpriced, slow, poor service, poor food.

The most expensive gluten free toast I ever had for the poorest product quality. Probably £8 but I don’t know because I didn’t receive any receipt.

Tasteless, cold and not fresh food. I don't understand how they manage to make cold coffee from a huge coffee bar. The staff are sullen and look at me as if they don't want to do their job, telling me to eat as soon as possible and leave. Such a shop on such a decent street does not suit me at all.

Cold coffee, apple crumble cake not very fresh and the servicemen were terrible with an attitude basically telling you not to eat in with their eyes and that you are not welcomed. Would never step in ever again and I recommend you not to too🙅‍♀️

Got a matcha latte and red velvet cake slice to take away. When I tell you it was the most delicious red velvet cake I’ve had in a long time, I’m being completely serious! And the service was amazing, staff very friendly and accommodating :-)

Always loved this place- back when it used to be called Poe's. Used to go there every morning for my coffee and breakkie 2016-2019. They're still amazing- just look at the beauty I got from them! For the best San Sebastian Cheesecake come here.

The best salads around! And incredible desserts.

Loved this place. There seemed to be like a family atmosphere and we tried a few different pastries and coffees at once and everything was so good. Such a great find!! One of our new favourites even though we don't live in the area.

My partner ordered a hot chocolate and cappuccino take away on Christmas Eve and both were tepid. My first and perhaps last experience as a result.

I normally love their salads and especially dolma and I buy the salad box at least once a week but today we were told that now there is a cap on how many dolmas you can buy in 1 box (max 2 in each whereas I was hoping to get 4 in the big box). Although their other salads are also nice, I normally buy this box mainly for the dolmas so I was quite disappointed by this rule and we might stop buying the salad box altogether because of this. I hope they change it as I don't think it makes sense. They could have sold me the big box and 4 dolmas and now because of this rule I bought a small box with 2 dolmas. Also this might cause dolmas to go more slowly so they might not be fresh all the time. I know dolmas are a bit harder to make but they are also definitely the best thing there so maybe they can focus on making more dolmas instead of some of the other salads.

SALAD BAR BOX FOR 7.50! They are delicious and have gluten free options. Also bakery has yummy yet gluten free stuff too. Highly recommended

Cosy place at the end of Church Street.

This place is truly unique for the quality of the food. However, for me, the most important part is that they do the best cinnamon bun is the entire world. The outside is crunchy and the inside is gooie, almost like a cannelé. there is just the right amount of sugar and spice. you can eat it slowly by derolling it, my favourite way. it's an experience you must have if you like cinnamon buns. it's amazing every time! check my picture with a mount of them, I want to eat them all and forget about everything else.

This is right next to my house so out of convenience I'be been in quite a few times. I've never had anything nice sweet in there but the savoury food is okay. The atmosphere is super cute, I'll give it that. Today I really was at my wits end when I had to repeat my coffee order 7 times. Then when I got my coffee it tasted completely different, I saw the barista but ice cream in it which isn't how it was made for me the past two times. They also asked if I'd like my frappe iced? what? £6 down the drain, I'm going to find a new local.

Not sure why this is only rated 4.1 - salads are awesome, tonnes of vegan options, Basque cheesecake was cracking, coffee solid and staff friendly.

Just been here this morning for the first time. Absolutely excellent English Breakfast with a great twist on the baked beans! I was starving and left full! I love my English Breakfast’s and this was a great one! Great food, great coffee, great service with a smile and great atmosphere and decor! Highly recommend you go if your looking for breakfast. Also a great choice of cakes and sweet goodies in the window! So go! Joy is a choice! Some weeks/months later…..I continue to come here on a Sunday morning and it continues to be great. Fantastic Kings Full English Breakfast, such an amazing choice of cakes, great tasting coffee, great service and I just love my Sunday mornings here after my swim! So go!

I only had a cheesecake and a fresh pressed apple juice but it was absolutely fantastic and if I hadn’t eaten lunch yet I would have definitely gone for a main dish. The salad bar looked wonderful - eveything is homemade and freshly made with a lot of love as it seems. Will definitely come back here!

Stumbled across joice whilst having my car fixed at kwik fit. Went in not expecting much and totally blown away. It’s l ike having a mini ottolenghi in Balham. Salads are fantastic, somehow taste better than they look and the cakes look spot on. Just annoyed I haven’t been here before. Hats off to whoever came up with this concept as it’s absolutely spot on. I will be a new regular!

The lady who works here is always a pleasure to see and one time when the card machine was broken she let me have a chocolate twist on the house truly the most kind hearted people work here 5 stars!

I’ve got a worst experience with the staff. The one with the short black hair, when I talked to her she didn’t respond so well. She got me a wrong order, me and partner wanted to order a french toast she forgot it as well. Just very bad customer service, but at the end. An employee with the long hair was very nicely apologize.

Really love this café, the ambiance is so nice and the place is super aesthetically pleasing. I had a vegetarian english breakfast and it was exquisite!

I really enjoyed the vegan breakfast. Would have been even better with a bigger portion size.

My partner ordered for delivery. Horrible. Eggs Benedict : is a slice of bread with to hard boiled eggs and the hollandaise (probably the knoor) comes with some green herb on top. Disgusting meal . Avoid And: glad you got 5 stars hygiene. But it doesn't makes good the food. Just clean . At least.

I cannot believe I haven’t been here before in spite of living in the area for over a year. This place is a gem for so many reasons- 1. It opens at 7am - perfect if you’re an early bird like me 2. It’s so close to Clissold park 3. It has so many options for meals of all sizes - they have a full breakfast menu, but also several small bites 4. Lots and lots of vegetarian options I ordered the onion and potato puff along with the walnut chocolate cookie. The portion sizes are generous and the prices are so reasonable!

So disappointed ! We've walked past here so many times and the food looks incredible but the toastie I ordered was so plain I could have made a better one at home for a fraction of the price and the brownie was really dry ! I'd recommend walking up a little further to Spence which is amazing

Terrible cappuccino. The proper milk foam was not achieved; the milk had too much air, which lead to more bubbles, and less of micro foam. Would not come back.

Lovely little cafe. So many options for every dietary requirement. Lots of seating. Mocha was great, as was the cannoli and I think the best Portuguese tart I’ve had in England! Highly recommend. Slightly hectic ordering as was quite busy but worth it!

Gorgeous wee cafe with the most amazing amount of delicious food options. I love peanut butter so I had to try the peanut butter cake. Simple put it was the best cake I have ever had and I'm not shy of a cake shop. I went and ate it in the park on a bench in the sun and it almost made emotional. I cannot recommend this place and specifically the peanut butter cake any more.

Good variety of food for reasonable prices. Coffee is good quality,too and ice skylight in the back. A few sockets as well to get some work on the laptop done.

A lovely little cafe. Lots of options and every is well presented and looks like it's been made with care. We had a mix of tasty salads from Ottolenghi-esque bowls, most of which were vegan which was great for us. My boy had the Colombian scrambled eggs which looked great. He forgot his bag, with his phone and wallet, and the lovely friendly staff kept it safe until I went back. Thanks!

Second time here. I had the joice special breakfast. Lovely flavours balanced very delicate. Loved. Nice calm place and service literally with a smile. They make you feel so welcome.

I was so blown away by the selection and quality of the food here. Ive stopped in once before to get a pastry (they have lots of vegan options) which was fabulous. Went back withba friend and we split some sandwiches and a plate of the day's salad selection... which was massive for such a good price. What else need sto be said! The shop is beautiful and warm. It's just the type of place that makes you happy.

I always had very good experiences everytime I came here, the food is great, both the salads, the savoury pasties and biscuits. Coffee is very good as well and people are nice too!

Ordered a couple of coffees here recently and was served by the most rude waitress I've ever encountered, genuinely felt like we were bothering her by coming in and ordering. Seems a really nice cafe from the outside but beware of terribly rude and unhappy staff.

Don't order the smoked salmon, else you'll be charged for a slice of lemon!

My favourite place in Stoke Newington. I was in Clissold Park and I wanted to a coffee and got a gluten free hazelnut cannoli with it too. WOW!! The best cannolo I’ve had! The display is so inviting, I visited again the day after to try the salads and the savoury pastries and it did not disappoint at all! The food is fresh and prepared on site, the cakes are amazing- gluten free/ vegan options available. The staff was friendly and helpful. Local, fresh, genuine! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Salads looked amazing which is why we headed in- gutted by the staffs attitude. Such a shame! They were both pretty rude, a real shame. kudos to the chef though- lunch salad was delish- shame we only bought one due to the serving staff!

Bought 2 Donuts for just under £8 and they were very hard. Very disappointed 👎🏼 For that kind of money you expect fresh donuts. Ended up throwing them in the bin. Better off going Tesco

Stumbled across this beautiful cafe by chance when in the area, it is beautifully decorated, the food is made fresh and was beautifully presented, lovely character with unusual touches, I would definitely encourage a visit you won't be disappointed.

Just recently ordered from this place, The food was disgusting they made us wait very long time, customer service was awful!!! Should you ever decide to go there try not to get served by the dreadful MICHELLE she’s very rude …I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

Michelle clearly needs training in customer service and needs to learn how to smile. Can’t even follow simple requests for orders, looked at me like I was stupid when I repeated my order but still she got it wrong. Openly Slags customers off behind the counter. Intentionally takes long and tells other staff that she’s intentionally taking long. Smashed my food so it burst out. This franchiser should be ashamed to have this woman representing their business. Michelle is someone not aloud to change their mind? Within seconds? I can’t even be bothered to come back and tell Michelle she got the order wrong that she jumped down my throat about and said she didn’t need to be told twice. Well Michelle, clearly you need to be told more than once and need training! The food isn’t even edible and you knew that. Spiteful behaviour. I wouldn’t trust eating from here and haven’t even eaten what I paid for.

Not sure what others are going on about. The service here was excellent. The chap behind the counter was upbeat and friendly. Drinks came fast and tasted good. They had a wide variety of cakes and sweets which all looked great. Highly recommended when in Stokey.

Don’t want to be too harsh after only one purchase but we bought the most expensive AND a very stale doughnut there. We bought doughnuts from several cafes in Stokey that day and this one was the most expensive. Please don’t sell old baked goods at full price.

I had the worst experience with a very rude and dismissive man working behind the counter on 30 November 2021 lunchtime. His behaviour soured my experience so much that I have to recommend that everyone stay away. I asked for my money back before accepting the food and he flat out refused. Manners and respect cost nothing. Never again!

After walking past every morning on the way to work, I finally took the opportunity to visit this morning. I’m glad I did! The pancake breakfast and coffee were both excellent and the service warm and friendly. I’ll definitely be back.

I went to the Joice Cafe for the first time and ordered from an excellent choice of salads to take away. The service was good and the packaging appropriate. The San Sebastian cheese cake looked so good that I was tempted to buy a slice, and I'm so glad that I did as it was possibly the best cheese cake I've ever tasted. I felt I just had to write to say how much I enjoyed all of the salads, excellent value. Thank you so much. Susan
