John Dorys in Belfast

Absolutely awful, fish and onion rings were soggy, chips were half cooked. Battered sausages were so greasy, felt I'll after a few bites, what a waste of money!

We order most weeks but last week & today the chips were like rocks so we binned it all & ordered from The Golden Chip, will order from there from now on.

Went with grandchildren to pick up food for treat dinner. Staff are lovely and when we wanted fish we could always depend on good quality fish at John Dory's Castlereagh. However, the fish we got yesterday was appalling. My grandson and I got two small pieces of the thinness pieces of fish and there was more batter than fish which was not up to usual standard. Even our dog who loves a piece of fish wouldn't eat it. Very disappointing. Will not be buying there again. Definitely a waste of money.

Batter so thick on pathetically small sliver of fish. The chips were alright but for paying 10.75 for the worst fish supper in my life.

These people need training.... People are wearing wolly hats... Hoodies ... The so called fryer whites are disgusting.....no hats... Gloves... 1 person marched in wiped his jumper saying its full of sawdust... Then walked around like what's the crack.. I don't really know how these people got the stars😂😂 🤢.

Worse place I have very been JOHN DORYS BALLYHACKAMORE to serve this to anyone as food is a disgrace.I have posted on Facebook and my friends have shared.Dont go near it.

Ordered via just eat from ballyhackamore branch, horrendous wait for delivery and the part of it wasn't delivered. Rang the number, after 20 minutes (!!) was told we could call round and get refund for missing part of order. Went round (2 mile drive) to be told it wasn't their responsibility and we would have to claim via Just Eat. Appalling customer service. And to top it all, the onion rings were like bulletproof doughnuts. Never again

Worst takeaway ever! Just look at the photos! Goujons meals had half goujons in & chicken kebab on chips was just unbelievable. Rang to complain & extremely rude staff. Returning all today virtually untouched apart from tasting it was that bad!🤮

Never encountered a server as rude as I have in their Ballyhackamore branch. Walked out, deleted the app and won't be near the place again.

Used their app which is great to place an order and select a time to collect. You pay extra for this service. Waited over 30 mins , people walking up to the counter were served quicker. Plenty of staff but really slow

We have ordered from here many times before via app. We have no problem with the food but on more than one occasion we didn’t receive the correct order and overpaid for what we received. Tonight when we rang to report that we didn’t receive one of the meals the guy on the phone was arguing with us that we received the full order. NEVER AGAIN will we be ordering from here. Customer service a joke and we are certainly not liars.

Sitting waiting on collecting food in John Dory Ballyhackamore and feeling very uneasy about the lack of hygiene…only one member of staff wearing a mask (below his nose); another walking round with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth in clear view of customers; and most concerning a member of staff rubbing his runny nose with his bare hand and immediately handling equipment and food containers. Shocked by the lack of adherence to health and safety procedures in the midst of a pandemic. Have collected my food, but it will be difficult to enjoy. Will think twice about ordering from here for the foreseeable.

Extremely disappointing! Apart from the wait for about 20 min after the order was placed. Having stood for that time watching the staff, I was shocked to see the guy who was at the till handling cash… proceeding to lift fresh fish in his ungloved hand dipping it into batter from there to the fryer! I appreciate it was going into hot fat but non the less disturbing to see him do it bare handed and without Washing his hands! . At least the young chap who was emptying the bin washed his before proceeding to finish frying his burgers! Doubt if I’ll be ordering there again The food itself was most disappointing… the chips were stodgy soft and oily… not crisp. The fish over cooked. Not trimmed the ‘thinner ends’ more or less dissolved in the cooking.

Slow serving. They don't serve in order of arrival. Food poor. Expensive. Keep away. I won't be going back.

Normally get a good takeaway from here but ordered from Dundonald today and got recooked chips. Spent over £40 and would not expect this…. Cook fresh chips. It’s not that hard, really disappointed

I’ve eaten fish and chips all over the UK and these are, by far, the best I’ve ever had. Chips were delicious, the batter on the fish was crisp, not greasy. The gravy was perfect!

Got 2 burgers with sauce and salad despite asking for none. Didn’t send my drink. Refund not processed for drink. Manager called me a liar when I called to complain

Can't process orders on the telephone for collection on Holywood Road. The answer was Georgia's Holywood. Vastly superior to Dorys excellent customer help and super fish and fluffy chips. Proper food made properly and this is the no to order on where someone actually answers...

Worst gluten free fish I have ever had! Very bland and batter so dense and hard you could break your teeth on it! My son got a non gluten free one and said fish was disgusting, I will never be back!

Fish and chips arrived two hours after ordering and had to be reheated. They charge 50p for ordering on line and £2.75 for delivering half a mile. The minimum order is £10 but you are only advised at checkout. Rip off or what?

Called in this evening for some food as my usual chippy . Rosie's in gilnahirk was closed . I ordered a cheese burger with raw onions . 2 sausages and a small chip . First off all the price was £9 and that was the start off it . Got home and started to eat it . The burger was tasteless and bland and I really do mean bad . Something u would expect to get at a market or somewhere like that . That's the second time I've been to John dorys and I assure u it will be my last . For a company to pride itself on high quality Haha. It is not worth the money nor the horror off eating crap at top prices . I eat all over the country and I would put John dorys in the same category as any in Banbridge. Disgusting and that's bragging them .

Used to be a great chippy but ordered fish supper ten minutes later was presented with small piece of cod and overcooked chips for £7.50 I would expect better Holywood fish Cafe is a good deal better

Been going to johndorys for years now and always get their goujons with kebab dip. They also do good fish and chips.

Popped in instead of my usual chip shop, a mistake I will never repeat! Staff totally uninterested in their customers with nobody interested to take an order. After I placef my order (chicken fillet burger and a chip) I noticed that there was a meal deal for the same price which included a drink. When I asked about the drink I was told as I had not asked for the meal deal initially I could not get the drink!

Nothing really wrong with the fish supper, but the staff are uninterested, unwelcoming and unsociable. Above they are so painfully slow, you could lose the will to live. Only customer in the shop and it took nearly 15 minutes for one fish supper. Never again.

It's nice to see a chippy which offers gluten free but the staff in the holywood road store need to seriously look at their attitude. It's made out they are doing you a massive favour making GF food. Sort it out john dorys!!

Visited the Ballygowan Road shop last night at about 545pm for a takeaway for myself and my wife. Really regret that decision. Ordered 2 chicken kebabs - one on pitta and one on chips. Firstly, wish we had opened both boxes before arriving home. The difference in portion sizes was incredible! The kebab on chips had maybe three times as much chicken on it as the kebab on pitta. The so-called 'salad' that supposedly comes with these kebabs was non-existent. The chicken was scraggly and completely dried up. The chips on the 'kebab on chips' numbered maybe 10-12 chips - absolutely disgraceful! My wife was really disappointed as we only have the occasional takeaway meal anywhere as a treat. To top it off, we paid roughly £10 for this rip-off experience and the guy behind the counter didn't even say thank you. Won't be back. Hope the manager reads this review - no retail food shop is immune from going out of business. With service and products like this - watch this space!

Ordered a gluten free fish and chips. Really disappointed with the batter - overdone and chewy!! The normal one was fine.

I don't like to give bad reviews but unfortunately this time I feel I have to. Having eaten gluten free battered fish there before with no issues I was expecting the same this time. We had a takeaway order delivered and although the food was hot my gluten free batter was hard and chewy and the fish was very dry. It was a real disappointment. Don't know why it was so bad this time when it had always been ok before. Everyone else's food was ok

Ordered food from the Newtownards branch of this franchise. Never again, it was the most expensive fish and chip carry out I have ever had to pay for yet every thing in the order was reheated. The chips were cold and horrible. I'm actually shuddering at the thought! The staff are very poor no idea of prices etc I and I waited 20 mins even though I was the only customer, also their uniforms weren't the cleanest! I know I have to give this some sort of rating but it doesn't deserve one.

Hemos tenido motivo de queja antes, por que yo nunca he recibido una resolución. Esta noche fue encargado una comida hamburguesa con salsa de curry para mi hijo de 9 años. Llegar a casa y no salsa de curry. Es tan frustrante cuando la orden más básico no puede ser cumplido. Muy decepcionado niño. This is the 3rd time in a row they have got our order wrong. It would have been nice to have received an apology on the phone but was told that my options were to wait another length of time to fix the order and have it resent or just to get a refund from just eat. ordered my food at 5pm and it was due to come at 5.30pm the restaurant changed this to 5.45 and it was still late. my chicken goujons were chewy which means I couldn't eat them however the burger and chips were nice.

Worst food have had in a long time. Tasteless apart from grease. Pastie looked like it had been in fryer at least 3 times. Never again.

Delivery time was increased by 30mins after the order was placed which is really poor. There should be a more accurate time before the order is placed.

After adding an additional 30 mins to the delivery time it arrived 15 mins after they said it would be here. Some parts of the order were missing or wrong and the kids meals were so over cooked and hard that the children couldn't even eat the chicken. Usually in this situation I'm happy to resolve it with the takeaway but after the excessive wait there was no way we could wait again to have it rectified. They need more drivers/staff. Used to love this chippy but won't use it again, 2nd bad experience in a row.

Got the order wrong, phoned up and got the original order collected and the new order delivered, for it to be still wrong. Shocking. Food is okay, but overpriced for what you get. Wouldn't order from this one again, but would recommend the carryduff John Dory's.

Got a chicken burger meal the burger was nice but only got about a dozen chips if that and they were undercooked as a meal you would expect a chicken burger and a chip this was more like a few chips on a tray and charged £6.25 for it this branch has really went downhill if you insist on getting john dorys then go to ballyhackamore just a few mins away its how i remember this branch used to be.

Slight mix up with the order as somebody else's was delivered to me. However a quick phone call and it was quickly rectified. Food was lovely as usual. I can honestly say, top quality customer service. A++

Pathetic. Ordered for collection, didn't give the whole order, had to go back and get drinks. Didn't put sauce in the pot bit all over the supper. Chicken was tough and cold, chips had obviously been lying about for a while as they were cold and chewy.

Order cancelled with no notification until AFTER we'd tried to collect it. Resulting in a refund (supposedly) and a reorder. When I finally did get it the food was hugely disappointing and nowhere near JD's usual standards. Disappointing experience and highly unlikely to use again.

After extending delivery time by 25 minutes, it then arrived 39 minutes after that time. Burnt and cold, how they managed to dry out battered mushrooms, burn cod bites and cremate a pastie, I don't know. Have taken pics just in case the snotty staff I phoned to complain to, dispute, this awful sub standard chip shop. John Dorys trades under an excellent reputation, this branch let's it down, that's a staff issue. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY

Chips were over cooked and black. Chip portion was a ridiculous size. Onion rings where far to greasy! Kebab sauce was good. Plenty of good chippys in east belfast that are far cheaper as well! Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere!

Something's gone wrong with the cooking of their fish and chips as the taste has changed and not for the better. Suspect they've changed the cooking oil.

I've never seen food like this yellow rock hard chips, burnt breast of chicken a knife wouldn't go threw the gravy was a dark brown black paste not what I was expecting 90mins after waiting. Phoned to complain they said the manager would ring me tomorrow of course never phoned

Chips were not 'chip shop' taste or quality. Looked and tasted like frozen chips. Cod bites were very strong fishy smell abd taste - again like frozen items. Have used john dory for years and this was the worst ever. Will need to find somewhere else or try one of their other local branches.

When ordering, the restaurant added 30 minutes delivery time, but still ended up delivering 20-25 minutes beyond the time restaurant had given. If they were that busy or understaffed, they could have rejected the order. Food was not warm upon arrival. Burger was rubbery and fish was over cooked. This is a shame, as we have enjoyed meals from here before.

Restaurant advised there was a little bit of time added on to delivery so we knew when to expect it.

Food was tasty, loads of chicken in the chicken kebab. Unfortunately they had not acknowledged the comments section where i had requested no tomato in the salad. Chips could have been cooked for longer and a few more in with the fish. The box looked empty compared to normal portion size.

Omg thought would try this place as usually always go to the manta ray which is amazing but John Dorys was horrible, the chips where absolutely rank and 4 goujons in a meal costing over 6 quid, the place is so over priced for poor to average food

100% EXCELLENT!!! So nice to see excellent superb customer service, perfect food and delivery - I would have strong words for anyone that disagrees. I will happily use this service again 😁I am a very happy customer!

I've left a positive star rating although my last delivery was a bit lacking. Food took two hours to arrive, phoned the restaurant to see why and didn't even get so much as an apology. When it eventually arrived the order wasn't even right. Pretty poor.

Delivery was 25 mins earlier than estimated time, food came pipping hot all tasting lovely! Great appearance of the driver as well! Will be back for sure

Order time was put back by 30 which was fine only it was then delivered nearly 20 minutes after they said it would. Food was luke warm and the batter on my fish was stale. We order regularly from here and generally don't have any problems. Won't be ordering near holiday periods again
