Stopped here for lunch, thd outside of the buildings are shabby and drab and are desperately requiring a major update as peeling paint and plastic window covering etc made it look pretty bad tbh, went inside and its in better condition than the outside but feels like a timewarp, very 70/80s vibe and looks it too in places, very polite staff and all items are presented well, large shop with lots of clothing to appeal to more to the elderly and ramblers, the food in the cafe is very basic to what folk would expect nowadays, friendly staff, happy to chat to you, the soup was nice but felt it had been watered down more than it should have been, the fish tasted ok but was definitely frozen fish snd cheapest frozen chips and horrid hatd dried cheap peas, all much too basic seriously, where's the management what are they thinking and what good are they doing, overall, its a shop and cafe lost to the psst yet somehow survives still, heavy investment is urgently required across the premises to help secure its future for the town of Jedburgh which is a beautiful town with lots of history and charm, the Edinburgh wollen mill is letting it down considerably because of its terrible shabby appearance from the roadside whilst driving past, it's got tremendous possibilities just needs for it to be noticed and then realised, I would go back for cup of tea and cake as the large conservatory is a nice feature but the cakes are very basic, unimaginative and cheap also

Was having a lovely Christmas drive and it was pouring with rain so we thought let's go somewhere with a carpark so we won't get soaked. Breakfast was tasteless someone was checking the food temps with a thermometer before serving as if they weren't sure the food was ok? Got the breakfast and wanted some butter with my toast but apparently you have to pay extra for the butter that I wanted to put on the dry toast I ordered. Wth is wrong with this place, if people are using this as a toilet and you spending to much on toilet paper then put a sign up telling everyone that you have to charge for condiments to warn them not to come in..... Outrageous.

As a regular visitor, I have none of the complaints of some one- time visitors below. The restaurant aims to give travellers a reasonable choice of quick meals/ snacks, with toilets and the possibility of tourist gifts if desired. With excellent and friendly service, what more do you need en route to your final destination, if you don't have the desire or time to go into town to find similar restaurants? Catering at times for large numbers of bus tours ( often unannounced!?), maybe we could cut the staff some slack if errors occur, and actually show some gratitude for service given!

The shop tat, all round shabbiness & toilets dating from the 1980s should have warned us but we just wanted a quick snack & coffee. Our food arrived at the table but one plate had to be returned straight away as the hair garnish, on the salad definitely wasn't requested & we then realised that the paninis had arrived minus mozzarella. It was like being a Faulty Towers extra. Our best advice is to avoid eatting here. If you have to enter, ignore their sign & eat your own food or better still go into Jedburgh town & eat there.

We stopped here recently as we were passing through, wondered why the place was almost empty on a weekend. The food was all frozen and then cooked, nothing fresh and was edible and that was about all. The staff didn't seem to have much of a clue about anything but the big shocker was £1.20 for a single slice of Bread and Butter - really..... that is absolutely outrageous, and 5p a sachet of sauce. Needless to say next time we pass we will drive on!!

Terrible service from all but one member of staff at the tavern today. A group of us arrived with our children after booking a table for 8, we were greeted well and led to a table, my friend was told to park her buggy close by as no one else was booked in to sit near us so we had space, great! More friends decided to join us last minute which we didn’t think would be an issue given the entire restaurants was empty bar one other table. Another women walked over and was beyond rude and abrupt, stating there was no room for the extra 2 adults and 2 children completely put out by another pram? “These tables are all booked out”… eventually it was okay and the setting was “ re-organised and bookings moved” we stayed for food which was regrettable as we all felt very unwelcome. The entire time we were there not one person entered to eat. Food wasn’t great and children’s menu poor to be honest but the service made it even worse. On finishing a friend asked at the bar to pay for what she had eaten and drank.. “ what you are all splitting the bill, great I don’t have patience for this” and walked off for another member of staff to complete the transaction. As regular visitors as we are local to the area visiting the tavern and play park as well as attending several of the “family events” recently ran through the park I can’t express how disappointed I am. This is meant to be a family friendly place and I will not be returning. Shocking service and customer service- no wonder it’s dead

On our way home from a trip to the Borders, we decided to stop here for a look at the shop and a bite to eat. Large premises, clean and sanitisation measures in place. However, I would say the meal was "just OK". I was wondering how the batter on our fish and indeed, the shape of the fish was so perfect before I tasted it, then it dawned on me. This is the type of produce bought from a wholesaler - it wasn't fresh and the texture of the defrosted fish was not very nice at all. Same with the carrot cake - it was "just OK" and obviously, not baked on site, but bought from a wholesaler. Our lunch was also somewhat spoiled by staff members talking very loudly to each other, in fact shouting from the upper level retail side down to the cafe. Keep your chat for out of working hours, please. All in all, not the greatest experience and we certainly wouldn't recommend this place.

Good quality of products throughout the shop. Great choices of nice fabrics such as scarves, cardigans. So many brands of whisky. However, the service in the cafe could be improved. After standing in the queue to be served, suddenly those behind us were being served and their orders being dealt with. On enquiring, we were told that our orders would be taken and dealt with by the person operating the cash till although a few of us were still waiting before reaching her.So much confusion for a simple service of breakfast and coffee. Why is this particular system is in operation is beyond my comprehension as I have never come across this system before. It was simply chaotic. The bacon rolls were ok with few bits of bacon and mug of tea was fine. It was a let down simply by the chaotic system of service. There were not that many visitors in the cafe to be served. Now, I'm always apprehensive about this country's attempts at making decent coffee but I decided to take a chance. I was pleasantly surprised! Although not to Italian coffee and 'coffee-shop' standard, it was actually not too bad. My biggest pleasure, however, was the "Gypsy Cream" 'biscuit'/tray bake... it was delicious!!! The best I'd ever had! In fact, so good that I had to buy another to take back home to Edinburgh with me. When I got back, the 'delicacy' didn't last long! Devoured easily and hastily. The choice was good and the food was reasonable if a bit overpriced. The service was friendly but slow at the till.

Lots on offer here, variety of souvenirs, amazing choice of gins and other alcoholic beverages to purchase in gift boxes. Staff very helpful and friendly. Managed to buy a few early Christmas presents, and lots of items were in the sale which was very welcome. Saw a very nice cafe attached with interesting menu, but didn't partake.

What an awful experience this place was. We visited for a coffee and a snack, we should have know better once we saw the place but were committed. The menu was very poor, I wanted a scotch pie but they were unable to serve me one without chips and beans (computer says no!) One of our party went for this option, the pie was awful and he left his chips and beans as they were so bad. The coffee was like warm water and had little taste. Then to cap it off, a quick visit to the toilet wasn't good either they were dirty and I could blow as hard as the hand drier. Give this place a wide berth at all costs.

We stopped for scones and tea around 4pm, the tea was fine, the scones were dry and we were bluntly told after a few minutes that they were closing. Not very good customer service. Could do better. They are sometimes very busy with coach tour groups but we were the only ones there this time.

This was our first visit here for a few years and it was a lovely surprise. We had the hot beef sandwiches and a cake and they were all delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. I would recommend this place for a passing visit.

We popped in as a family and I found it to be designed for coach trips of people. Decent enough shop and food looked good but nothing special. Overpriced too to be honest (whiskeys that can be bought at Tesco much higher priced here). American/Australian coach parties were in their element so happy days.

Went in to have breakfast and browse around. The breakfast items were out under a lamp. I asked for crispy bacon for a bacon roll but they said that was the only bacon they had. The meaty part was pink and the fat part was white. Looked to be microwaved. So that was a no to crispy bacon for me !! But my husband likes to eat fat so he was given 4 pieces in a roll. I asked for a sausage roll instead. I was given 2 sausages in a big bap that left half the sandwich with nothing in. I asked for another sausage to fill up the empty space. the staff member said that is all they give and I complained that it was a half empty roll . She reluctantly put another sausage in. Then my husband saw fried bread and asked for two half slices. We found a table under the glass roof that let the sun pour in and sat down. We tried the fried bread. Not only was it cold but it was so greasy that it dripped fat. It was difficult to cut. It was disgusting. The meal cost almost £12 to include a separate roll and a scone to try later. Rolls were supposed to cost £2.75 each. Never ever again !!!!

Wasn't expecting much but the staff were very lovely and that immediately set my hopes up. Even though it was getting close to the end of breakfast service they specifically made some more hash browns just for me, so they were hot and piping when they were put on my plate along with the rest of the English breakfast. Everything was perfect and still piping hot, for a very reasonable price. Large mug of tea given as well-lovely time! Perfect way to end our trip to Scotland.

There is a lot to see here. Prices tend to be in on higher side as expected at a tourist attraction spot.Rather put off by attitude of café staff, I know they are busy but rudeness is not excuse. A helpful attitude would be better than a curt one. At the till if foreign students have difficulty with our money, perhaps better to help them than be short and impatient and keep flexing your hand to hurry them up. The staff could do with better training and manners

Mackays was absolutely the best fish and chips I had tasted in years. The portions were very generous, and the menu was surprisingly wide-ranging too.

Toilets are very dirty, not cleaned mess in first two cubicles. Staff swearing in front of customers staff having breaks off shift talking about other members of staff in earshot of customers not a great look.
